respected house and techno artist dj deep returns to rekids with four murky productions this june. having been a staple in the parisian scene for over two decades, dj deep’s vast knowledge of electronic music is indisputable making his return to production in recent years all the more exciting, releasing on tresor, rekids, and his highly regarded label deeply rooted. ‘la grande brasserie’ features rolling kicks and a subtle rhythm as futuristic stabs ebb in and out of the mix, contrasting to the ‘2e service’ version which, whilst sharing a similar aesthetic, sounds bigger with its echoing synths and infectious claps. on the flip, both tracks are more dark and mellow in comparison, ‘paris heartbeat’ demonstrates twisted atmospherics and gloomy elements, whilst the intricate and mesmerising ‘chord kids’ is exemplary of dj deep’s ability to craft imaginative left-of-centre cuts.

following their eponymously titled 2016 arrival on midlands graded imprint, as well as a recent followup on dark entries, solitary dancer return to the label on which they made their debut. once again, this three-track 12inch blends electro, ambient, and acid to superb, undeniably modern effect. with a running time of nearly 12-minutes, the title track transmitting to heaven is an ambitiously sweeping cut that subtly moves through its various shades, from electro and acid, to strobe-lit 90s rave. the b-side kicks off with birth of saturn, built around an arpeggiating synth that shifts and morphs throughout the track as the intensity ascends. the 12inch closes off with ‘at the end of the corridor of love, a loss’, a slow burning ambient piece that is as sombre as it is cinematic.

the second single from the cultures of soul compilation, boogie breakdown: south african disco 1980 to 1984, benjamin ball’s -i just keep dancing- is a synth and drum machine-fueled track that also reveals ball as one of south africa’s earliest rappers. boston-bred djs, soul clap provide an excellent rework of the track adding some big room club flavor to the track for djs around the world. soul clap are the globe trotting dj duo of eli goldstein and charles levine who ve done everything from headlining clubs in ibiza to creating dj mix albums for fabric and dj kicks to making records with george dj/producer and co-founder of the running back label, gerd janson provides two funked up rerubs of the track, one with vocals and one without. licensed directly from the artist and housed in a custom disco sleeve these edits won t be available on the compilation.

fuse bosses enzo siragusa and seb zito have been invited by the highly respected rawax to bring a taste of their beloved london rave culture roots to the labels first release of 2017. since their launch in 2011, rawax’s catalogue has beamed with nothing less than the finest, and enzo and seb are a welcomed addition to their already colourful and diverse roster. barac, boo williams, fred p, paul johnson, ricardo villalobos, ron trent and unbroken dub are just a small portion of an incredible list of artists that have released via the labels original monarch and many offshoots thus far. with ‘woonie trax’ enzo and seb perfectly resurrect the sounds of early uk rave culture into the present by digging out the early gems of their record boxes as inspiration. “barring the kicks, i think almost everything came from sampling old garage, hardcore and jungle records from the 90 s. for those in the know, the clues are in the names of the tracks”. – enzo siragusa whilst ‘shades of riddim, ‘lil ley’, and ‘blue notes’ all lend themselves to the early uk sound, each track has its own individual quirk making the ep a diverse representation of the days enzo and seb fell in love with rave.

12inch sleeve designed and hand screen printed by alex from cassegrain. arcing seas is back with arcs-03, a unique ep of selected tracks from the first two releases, remixed by the mover, peder mannerfelt and shifted. first up, rave and techno legend the mover presents his first new material since 2009. after using the slogan “see you in 2017&#8243,,,, for years before, this marks the start his return. he turns trappist into a hard hitting electro workout using original parts that explode and punish the senses. peder mannerfelt introduces the b-side with his take on skull gun. broken beats and exciting percus-sion sit atop deep kicks, disorientating quick fire samples and rapid snares, showing how versatile and on-point he is. finally, shifted is called into action with a signature deep-sonic soundscape. rumbling kicks and high frequency textures occupy the sound field, alongside reverberating samples from vultures, making it his own. label info: arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name.

audiotrophe ernaehrung kicks of his vinyl debut on wout records with a massive 4 tracker ep. -greifswalder-, -structure- and -defects- are full of dubby basslines, melodic synth abstractions, rotating percussions, vocal snippets and endlessly moving sound effects, a clear musical reflection of berlin s electronic music scene and a demonstration of ae s ability to present diversity. this ep ends up with a raw, straight forward and deeply driven remix of -greifswalder- produced by the italian collaboration mood_out and dinkis.

robin de wolf delivered us three solid tracks under his new alter ego robert d . while un ni yo is a house track with a wavy sound and affective synths, the second a-sided track dommel is a banger that begins with a smooth intro that changes over into hard kicks and raw bass chords. on the b-side, you can find a more melancholic uptempo track that goes by the name of white s wisdom. interstellar funk tops it all off with a remix of un ni yo that combines the wavy sound of the original with synth-heavy electronics. an absolutly killer ep!

after kicking off the year with body reflections pt.1 on tresor, berlin-based, bournemouth-born ben thomas aka bnjmn is back with new label tiercel. as an outlet for floor focused tracks he kicks off the imprint with paean - 2 slabs of atmospheric, hypnotic, sci-fi techno plus an ambient excursion in true otherworldly bnjmn fashion.

rekids introduces a new vinyl only series titled rekids special projects. a more techno orientated division of the label that will feature appearances from the likes of john hester, markus suckut, and dj deep amongst others. first up is ohio-based producer fbk, real name kevin m. kennedy, who has a career spanning three decades and after a seminal release on frictional recordings back in the 90 s recent releases have seen him appear on labels such as marcel dettmann records, barba records and diametric. intricate drums and jagged synths initiate you are not fixed whilst a looped sample recurs throughout the mix. ‘dynamonium’ then enters deeper territories as echoing stabs join a low slung meandering groove before set it free ups the energy with rumbling kicks, distorted vocal murmurs and tantalizing melodies. the final escape then closes the release with a syncopated drum arrangement, mesmerising chords and ethereal atmospherics

swiss duo me & her join the hottrax roster with a robust release featuring british duo dense & pika and detroit’s dj bone on remix duties. with recent appearances on deeperfect, natura viva and clarisse records, the rising duo has quickly cemented a reputation as ones to watch since making their production debut back in 2014. joining them on the release is dense & pika, who have been taking the world by storm whilst releasing on leading labels such as adam beyer’s drumcode, scuba’s hotflush, not to mention renowned uk imprint hypercolour. meanwhile, dj bone needs little introduction having paved the way for quality techno for over two decades including running his renowned subject detroit imprint. sturdy kicks and intricate effects drive ‘wild rage’ forward before introducing metallic snares and animated melodies. on the other hand, ‘thunderstruck’ is a dusky production composed of heady stabs and echoing elements that together generate a compelling groove. dense & pika’s shuffling remix of ‘wild rage’ shines a spotlight on a tantalizing synth as eerie nuances operate throughout, before dj bone concludes the package with a trippy and percussive reinterpretation of his own.

matuss takes techno and turns it on its head. the cybernetic sound has been filled with human emotion, giving it a more organic feel than much of the music that would fall under the genre. she opens her absence seizure 007 ep in trademark style, with a dark jacking cut entitled pitchureque, in which a pulsating bass line throbs alongside ominous acid swells and disorientating panning effects. next up, tektango takes a different route honing in on a set of live tribal tinged percussion, which sway and dissipate with hypnotic effect driven further into the depths with a bubbling synth lead and filtering atmospherics. this live percussion gives the track that organic feel mentioned earlier. escapade kick starts the b-side with a robust rhythm, built from the ground up with resonant hi hat stabs, echoing claps and sturdy kicks which forms the framework for a deranged lead melody laced with wide open synths and emotive chords to carry the groove. closing the package is fonque, where flanger-tinged snare rolls work in unison with driving rhythms, delicate arpeggios and an intricate 303 bass line to create an infectious closing cut.

the practice of pseudoscience, a three track ep by m parent, is the second vinyl release from the us based label chem club records. having been inspired by peripheral thoughts about pseudosciences, this ep is washed in steady emotional build ups using airy reverb, scattering percussion, throbbing stabs and solid kicks. the title track (a1) uses these elements to move towards a piercing synth peak while cycle of intellect (a2) spaces out these features as it creeps to a dubby impactful end. the b side temazcal rites was directly motivated by a scorching summer day when the intensity of the sun sparked an idea for a sizzling percussive experiment. what were left with is a funky but emotive soundscape that tops off the ep in a unique fashion.

minimalistic art sublabel, 0000, kicks things off with scribble acid, an ep from man at the top, brayan valenzuela. title track scribble acid is a mixture of acid sounds and saturated kicks combined to create an industrial techno line. 0000 differs, highlighting the simpler sound of acid. error makes use of metallic percussion to devastating effect but is lined with pauses in all the right places to allow you to breathe.

two floor-smashing highlights from the gnarliest corner of the spectral sound library get a welcome reissue on the first limited addendum 12” to the dope jams nyc volume 1: 2005-2012 compilation. first up is futuristic acid banger “poison dart” by 2 am/fm, the double-headed beast of ann arbor’s d’marc cantu and james t. cotton. beginning with an eerie synth coiling endlessly around a shuffling, anxious beat, the track unexpectedly blasts off with one of the nastiest acid basslines since “washing machine.” commanding, otherworldly, and freaky to the core. on the flip, cotton flies solo and tosses listeners headfirst into his chaotic and terrifying “bizarre carnival.” pounding kicks, blown-out bass and frenzied synths relentlessly collide with one another, creating an endless nightmare of a world on the verge of machine-induced annihilation.

in its five years dgtl has carved its style and sound worldwide as one of amsterdams staple dance music institutions. this year the organisation is deepening its focus and vision. therefore dgtl is launching its own imprint dgtl records. the label builds on the festivals musical theme of an evocative cross section of the sounds and styles showcasing forward thinking, cutting edge artists. the one to kick off the new imprint will be the bulgarian hardware wizard kink. best known for his live performances, teemed with explosive energy, which for a consecutive year puts him to the no.1 spot of live acts on ra poll, he is also one of houses most in demand producers. kink has worked with dgtl for quite some time, including last years audiovisual installation transmission tower, where the first track neutrino was born. the melodic neutrino , kicks off with syncopating bassline. its interconnecting layers organically jump over and under each other, reflecting the organic character of kinks live performances, where every knob touch and turn matters. on the latter, he built the b-sider dynamo: i loaded my favourite element from neutrino in my computer and i tweaked the sound through various weird devices in my studio, till it sounded like a completely new track. as usual, he added a few endless loops on the record, for the adventurous djs, exclusively for the 12inch. the idea for the dgtl records artwork is to feature a different visual/graphic artist from the dgtl art program every year starting with the cover from tim buiting and his graphical visual of the liege train station, designed by calatrava for this years releases.
