after a brief time away from releasing music in 2017 to refresh his ears, essential house artist argy is back with a bang in 2018, as this debut ep on play it say it proves. greek dj and producer argy has been a prolific talent over the last decade plus, releasing a variety of sounds under a number of different aliases. his given name has always been reserved for house and techno, which is classically informed but always infused with the sound of the future. it’s come on key labels like bedrock, bpitch, ibadan, and most recently the martinez brothers’ cuttin’ headz imprint, and has spawned four fantastic full lengths. those releases, along with his storytelling dj sets, have made the these days label boss a much loved and ever-present part of the global underground scene. the excellent title track the way of kings opens up the ep with seven standout minutes of surging house. slick, powerful kicks drive it along as expertly crafted synths bring real drama and tension up top. it’s a tasteful bit of hi-tech soul for the peak of the night and is as essential as the title suggests. switching up the mood is the vibrant los animales, which has a busier, afro tinged groove and tribal percussive energy. lithe synths dart about to add dynamism and movement as vocal chants get you on your toes and the whole thing is sure to make a huge impact in the club. last of all, move like a panther featuring the new yorker in berlin, elbee bad, shows another side to argy. it’s a perfectly raw house cut with plenty of jacking chicago spirit. the drums hit hard, the synths are trippy and the snares force you to move. add in a dark bassline and spoken word mantras and you have a real piece of explosive club dynamite. these are three typically inventive and well-executed tracks from argy that are stuffed with original ideas.

elektroliza is a series of club events formed by a group of dedicated electronic music enthusiasts in 2006. it is hosted by ljubljana s channel zero, a legendary club that is part of the autonomous social centre metelkova which used to be the slovenian headquarters of the yugoslav national army.

filling a void in slovenia s electronic dance scene, the night was a hit from the start and quickly grew into a diverse and successful series focusing on new and exciting electro, acid and dark techno.

joe powers is from edinburgh, far outside the network of the grime capital of london. his caffeinated productions as proc fiskal are faster than usual, with many clocking in at 160bpm. ‘the highland mob’, his 2017 debut ep, opened up his music to open-eared footwork and drum’n’bass fans as well as the grime crowd. after following that up with a jungle-inflected ep on cosmic bridge, ‘insula’ switches the feel and intention towards a personal, and melodic music with one foot in grime, infused with often comic, often wistful recorded moments from his environment. he says ‘i wanted to be aware of where the music is coming from, referencing things i’m presently experiencing, like making grime, my radar radio show, phone addiction, alcohol, my surroundings, girls, depression, positivity, being unemployed, being employed and hating it, my friends etc. trying to be true to myself instead of relying on other peoples’ nostalgia, and focusing on now.’ the record is a huge leap in vision, with delicate, pointillist melodies and intricate edits reminiscent of grime producers such as terror danjah. it also resonates with japanese video game music like that recently explored on the ‘diggin in the carts’ compilation. ‘i think i probably make tunes to get out emotions i don’t express in day-to-day life. i used clips of my friends talking, drunk folk, and general scottish life to preserve and represent what my experience is like right now, like a time capsule. social media notification sounds are designed to release serotonin, which is what i’d like my music to do, to make me, and other people happy, and in using these manipulative noises in a positive way, i like to think i’m taking back the power of the manipulation.’ proc fiskal is adventurous and thoughtful as a producer, and at the young age of 21, his debut album is very advanced in its ideas and execution

yuri shulgin is a multi-instrumentalist music producer from tajikistan. his discography includes a small number of releases from the greek label modernista and the french escapade recordings. animal planet is his contribution on cocktail d amore music. this ep is a live-recorded masterpiece that will lift dance floors into heavenly heights. a1 takes the record title. it s an acid based, genre-blurring piece of music, enveloping and disorienting at the same time. infinite strings melt together to a constant build up, reminiscent of steve reich - double sextet/2x5. boogie space feels like the continuation of the previous track, evoking a cloud of glitter in absence of gravity. walking starts off the b side. its funk future jazz-influenced groove is supported by an organic, as bouncy as timeless bassline. while the stripped down dubby body goes to deep realms, the outro recordtake closes this surreal ep.

lost lp from 1977, rebuilt from original tapes, by the creator of black devil disco club the french electronic music pioneer behind black devil disco club, released three seminal library albums in the seventies: suspense (1975), cosmos 2043 (1977) and the strange world of bernard fevre (1977). a fourth album called orbit ceremony, produced just a few months after remained in his home studio and never saw the light, sentenced to almost 40 years in the devil’s vault. by chance, while working on the re-issues, bernard fevre recently found the original lost tapes of orbit ceremony, including the multi-tracks which he remastered himself. spacy moogs, weird clavinet, and cosmic analog drum machines: it’s all here. the quirky, cosmic library music found on this long-deleted 70&#8242,,,,s science-fiction-themed album is full of burbling synths and off-kilter melodies. there’s only one man on this planet able to produce such a crazy sound. as soon as you press play you know you’ve embarked on a special and unique ‘back to the future’ trip. don’t worry, fasten your seat belt and relax. captain fevre is taking care of everything.

50 is a nice number of releases to be celebrated in style, that’s why we have cooked up a very special menu for this milestone. as the spirit of the pole group team we have combined everyone’s character on this record. all tracks have been made in common, each of the label foundational members have worked on their own sound parts that in a second process have been assigned randomly to others to work on them, in a creation loop that somehow represented the true essence of the label. you’ll never now who is making what, it’s just oscar mulero, exium and reeko in essence and mixed up. you’ll find no ambient interludes, no anthems, no big breakdowns, every piece in this creation has been designed for the finest dancefloors, rough textures mixed with solid beats and continuous synth lines, techno in its essence made by those who never left the boat in ruff times, pioneers making the soundtrack of the future.
