the shortest connection between the past and the future leads through the music of boston 168. drawing inspiration from both classic and contemporary approaches to the acid techno sound, early nineties rave culture and the throbbing pulse of the now, sergio pace and vincenzo ferramosca have carved out a niche for themselves which over the past four years has become a musical microcosm of its own. having released a slew of records on such labels as involve, attic, odd even and dustin zahn s enemy, the italian duo now presents its most cohesive musical statement thus far on ellen allien s bpitch. on the three tracks of »drops in heaven«, boston 168 seamlessly mold together lysergic acid lines with elements of nineties ambient techno and a rhythmic groundwork that is as thrilling as it is intricate. »cosmic tribe« translates its idea of universal togetherness into a nerve-wrecking groove punctuated by complex percussion work and a subtly building acid line, while »drops in heaven« uses a booming kick drum as base for an emotionally driven exploration of sonic textures. the psychedelic »straight to light« nods to nineties pioneers like emmanuel top, showcasing ferramosca and pace s talent for creating musical depth by ingeniously bringing together a few select elements to greater effect. these are tracks that relentlessly head towards the unknown final frontier of what techno can sound like in 2018, while not in the least neglecting the rich tradition that they draw from.

joy adegoke und wim janssens aka joy wellboy sind seit jahren unzertrennlich, ein paar in leben und kunst. ihr zweites album wedding klingt so komplett und vielfältig, wie man sich ein popalbum 2015 nur wünschen kann: songwriting trifft crooning, elektrobeat kuschelt mit chanson, es gibt minnegesang auf der tanzfläche, herzzerreißende duette und engtanzballaden für die ewigkeit.

die bandbreite der zwoelf songs reicht von frickeliger indie elektronik, angereichert mit spaßigem geraeuschchaos, über poppig-housige minimal tracks mit ear-catcher-hooks bis hin zu sensiblen singer-songwriter miniaturen und aetherischen athmos. die beats – ob housig oder als rockig angehauchtes live-schlagzeug eingesetzt – sind niemals nur funktionaler natur. sie fühlen sich immer ganz dem song verpflichtet. in eine schublade pressen laesst sich in a manner of sleeping nicht – eklektizismus und ploetzliche ueberraschungen durchbrechen jedes genrekorsett.

bpc-urgestein kiki hat für seine vinyl > spending time together< keinem geringeren als hercules and love affair-sänger shaun j. wright das mikrofon in die hand gegeben. die beiden scheinen wie füreinander geschaffen - shauns soulig-relaxte vocals legen sich wie ein dunkles seidentuch um kikis schlanke, druckvoll produzierte beats. dunkelheit ist dann auch das stichwort für die beiden, mit through darkness bright dub und dark dub benannten titel der 12 inch vinyl.

die venezolanische künstlerin aérea negrot ist ein performance-phänomen, was sie als mitglied von hercules & love affair und auch als solo-künstlerin eindrucksvoll unter beweis stellen konnte. nun veröffentlicht sie mit macuto zwei neue stücke(macuto,planta baja), sowie remixes von so verschiedenen künstlern wie wareika (hamburg/berlin) und dem bpc-zugang system of survival (aus italien).

die in brasilien geborene, in kšln aufgewachsene und in berlin lebende kŸnstlerin dominique dillon de byington alias dillon hatte immer eine klare vision ihrer kunst. zwei alben hat sie bereits veršffentlich. fŸr sie selbst sind beide eigentlich eins, denn sie erzŠhlen eine zusammenhŠngende geschichte. live war dies stets spŸrbar, denn die dunkel melodischen songs beider alben bestimmten im magischen wechselspiel ihre shows. als sie 2015 vom berliner foreign affairs festival gebeten wurde, ein einmaliges konzert zu entwickeln, entschied sie sich fŸr eine performance mit einem sechzehnkšpfigen frauenchor, der sie und ihr kollaborateur und co-produzent ihrer ersten beiden alben, tamer fahri …zgšnenc im juli 2015 live im haus der berliner festspiele begleitete.
