fragen documents the extraordinary shedding of skin of one of the most important german electronic groups. hans-joachim roedelius was there from the beginning, first as a trio with conrad schnitzler and dieter moebius (kluster), from 1971 on as a duo with dieter moebius (cluster), and since 2010 as a duo with with onnen bock (qluster). bock (born 1973) and roedelius have been meeting up to explore new musical directions together since 2007. fragen is the first part of an exceptional trilogy, a grandiose new beginning, backed up by forty years of tradition.

italian techno heavyweights markantonio and rino cerrone finally name their collaborative ventures after ten years of gigs and productions together, and the name is junction hands. revolution is back is the first full release under the junction hands moniker, following a well received outing as part of the recent the napoli connection ep on adam beyers drumcode and it sees the two veterans deliver some of their strongest work yet. the title track is a pacey number with a reverb soaked yet warm atmosphere which underpins an aggressive, simple and incredibly effective bass/drum loop which gains intensity throughout. sharp sounds puncture the groove here there which keeps things interesting but its the discordant stabs in the break which push things into overdrive. the equally hypnotic and driving thing for hands follows but manages to do so with an increased feeling of woozy menace. synths feedback on themselves to shattering crescendos before subsiding into waves of noise while the groove relentlessly works its magic. with junction hands theres yet another must-check name coming out of the neapolitan scene.

the croatian wonderboy tristy nesh is back on absolut freak records, with the famous elektro frau xenia beliayeva. they had already met on the >little hip molecular ep< (af05), with a successful remix by beliayeva. now they come together with >acting sane<, a sweet electro excursion through dusty fields. john lord fonda, the french sensation from vitalics label citizen records, is also back on absolut freak after having done the very first remix on af01. this time, he gives a new huge remix, with even more melancholy and an amazing break. just brilliant! then, the latvian producer max brannslokker (author of some masterpieces such as the incredible >lust< on salto recordings, or >transition< on boxon records) delivers a great funky-beat version with his special jazzy vibe. back side, nicolas chenard comes again with a powerful techno sound on a smashing remix. at last, tristy nesh offers a new demonstration of his unique dirty loud sound with >turkish bass<, a dancefloor killer with no concession. vinyl lovers can enjoy the artwork by falk klemm from the zonders with a pantone color on the cover. already supported by david carretta, donovans, da fresh, teenage mutants...

so it was a massive pleasure that maya chose 2020vision for her next full single release. when we discussed the project with her we agreed it was vital to put together a single that truly reflected her diverse tastes and skills. the title track >focus now< is a unique work that will be hard to even categorise. reminiscent of early matthew jonson records >focus now< features delicate synth sequences weaving in and out of intricate rhythms. it sounds amazing on big systems, like at fabric, where it was road tested by ralph lawson at the recent 2020vision party. it is one to drop at the right time to make a real change in mood and set direction. we then have >little one< which is a solid deep house groove, simple but effective. vocal snippets are added by mjc herself on both tracks but her true vocal talents are shown on >senseless<...

wild rumpus is bitches brew head honcho colleen cosmo murphy (cosmodelica / classic album sundays) and former captain beefheart axeman and jeff buckley collaborator gary lucas. with wild rumpus they bring together seemingly contradictory sounds such as disco, rock, surf music, blues, dub and country while enlisting some extraordinary talent along the way. his latest effort is the most indulgent wild rumpus song yet and is somewhat of a cross between ashra temple and giorgio moroder clocking in at an epic 12 minutes. the remix is courtesy of mudd and has balearic classic written all over it. the single also includes an instrumental version of >tikkety-boo< which is a preview to the vocal version with lambchops kurt wagner which will be featured on the album.

in 2010, indivision where turning heads with their futuristic liquid sounds and 2011 is going to be even bigger for the tallinn based producers. this release is so well put together and appeals to both the liquid seen and the dancefloor crowds. we cant wait to hear more from this exciting talent.

with age comes maturity, or that is at least what one would normaly think. together the three men (jin choi, walker barnard & tolga fidan) associated with private golds second release, the >i m just the rain< ep, clock in at over 100 years… and yet this release is all thrusting crotches and wriggling teen lust man-booties. only kidding, the songs on this release are nothing if not mature. sure the aforementioned sex is there. in the cooing vocals, stompy bass and 60s psych of the contrapuntal guitar of the eponymous >i m just the rain< or in the jimmy edgar-like funk and grind of >revolution for the lovers<.

the two dutch artists warren fellow and michel steinbach team up again to show what good dance music is. but this time they give their debut on mannheim based label circle music. again they created a unique eclectic mix like they did on their successful cosmic ep in 2009 or together with legendary todd terry with >got a soul< in 2010 where they proved that they are very able to handle house music. on the a side we have some straight beats with classic percussions at the beginning. but very soon fellow and steinbach come around with some synthesizer hook which melody is quoting the nineties. the vocals only brings it down to a round figure.
