after one year composing in isolation, bot ox is tackling 2009 at full throttle. following the 12 releases on dfa and dc recording last year, cosmo vitelli and julien briffaz are coming back on im a cliche to release three singles till 2009 put together like a trilogy. here is the first single including arab drift and rue de l arsenal.
red axes is niv arzi and dori sadovnik, two young men who have always lived in tel-aviv and have been making music together since the noughties. ballad of the ice is their debut album. their artistic travels have taken them from the rock scene to the dancefloors, and to creating an album. more than a summary, this lp is an invitation to discover a singular musical identity: a ballad of the ice, a song as light as love and cold as a tunnel, springy as a dance step and deep as nostalgia.
>dysfunction<, hannulelauris first ep on i m a cliche goes beyond the dreamy, cosmic atmosphere of their previous releases and remixes on other eurodisco labels. the duos new sound still sends us floating but with an edgier, more toxic ride. hannu and lauri aka hannulelauri created a track for i m a cliche, a remix of botoxs hit >blue steel<. this track inspired the label to make more room for the finnish duo and bring their new music into its discography.
these two have been active figures in helsinkis club scene for quite a while, producing music together since 2006. when they crossed the borders of finland, the name of the band was pretty hard to retain but it didnt take long for all the bigwigs of modern disco to memorize it. two originals and a selection of remixes: >dysfunction< steps into the territory of deep melodic house with a classic resonance >box of box< throws around some fun rough beats toby tobias remix of dysfunction is iced with elegance and soulfulness. populettes remix of >box of box< is the new best friend of house dancers.
cosmo vitelli, i’m a cliché’s founder and head, heard the voice of our unruly feet after taking us on a long car journey with botox. night dogs is his first solo ep in a long time. and he’s back to the dancefloor with an unexpectedly nervous pace.
due to popular demand and before the release of their first album >babylon by car<, bot ox asked to a bunch of talented producers to remix their pop single >blue steel<. para one and tacteel are celebrating their come back with a outstanding midtempo remix.
bot ox is one of many side projects for french label owner and music tastemaker cosmo vitelli, in partnership with julien briffaz (better known as one half of tekel). their last single >crashed cadillac< was one of the highlights from i m a cliches moments of a crisis compilation from earlier this year. this latest effort is a real slow burner, with the misty voice of anna jean flowing over top of lo-fi melodies and blistering rhythms. weve also heard the flip side for the release – >bearded lady motorcycle show< – which is a more aggressive electro growler.
entertainment is a duo. im a cliché is proud to release their very first e.p on september 29th. juan de guillebon is the bass player. he studied a lot jaco pastorius, but decided not to spend the rest of his life playing in jazz rock combos. you can easily guess his attraction to no wave bands (suicide or james chance), krautrock (his faves are cluster), or ebm and early electro (daf). alongside, hes part of the ectoplasmic band, performing as backing band for tigersushis boss joakim. antoine montgaudon plays the guitar, and we bet he would have fit perfectly in any brian enos late 70s recording. he builds endless psychedelic atmospheres with feedbacks, loops and fxs. all this only with his guitar. hes also part of my sister klaus, a project released on tigersushi (again).
botox last november single on im a cliche, >babylon by car<, later licensed by dfa in january, gets a new life with unreleased remixes by padded cells richard sen, discodeine (alias pilooski & pentile), and dissident records invincible scum. supported by ivan smagghe, toby tobias, photonz, crowdpleaser, mylo, dj morpheus, matt walsh (turbo), riotous rockers ..
>ohhhh this is nice!< shit robot (dfa) >j adore that thing!< joakim (tigersushi) >very good edits< jerry bouthier (boombox) >really enjoying them. definitely want to play them of my radio show< tim sweeney (beats in space) >many thanks for these, all of them are fantastic.. groove me have been fave of mine for yonks..< pete herbert >i really like -that thing- and -my time- your time< nico de céglia >these edits are really great< matt walsh (turbo rec) >straight shooter is hot< jacques renault (runaway) >thanks for these edits< andreas leander (24hours blog) >those 3 edits are great especially the groove me edit which is a great favourite track of mine< alex from tokyo > love the edits but my fave of cosmo is still that pete shelley one!< roy dank (xlr8r) >great stuff!< dj morpheus >these edits rock !!! will play all three of them, this is just what i need in my sets! merci beaucoup cosmo< yannick labbé (tricski)
top charted by simian mobile disco >the best record since agees< , francois k, ivan smagghe, riton, munk, tim sweeney (dfa), joakim…… dirty 30 is toronto based producer alphonse lanza. we are proud to present his first ep on im a cliché, featuring 3 brand new tracks. check the keith richard-like riff in >star 80<, and the crazy aciddisco jam called >disco apocalypto<. erik rug brings in his science of old school electro with a remix of the roman steppes track. im a cliché is a parisian label created by cosmo vitelli. they released material by cosmo vitelli, bot ox, dirty 30, juan & anton sparx , runaway, simian mobile disco yuksek, aysam,, domenico torti, erik rug, quiet village, tacteel, bogus, tekel
talented parisian producer cosmo vitelli is now running his own imprint >im a cliche< !! his new single >delayer< takes a surprising minimal approach (also quiet village remix). already a big buzz amongst electro specialists
new 12inch by cosmo vitelli & julien briffaz (tekel) duo.b ot ox. following the acclaimed >grand central< on marketing records. two outstanding tracks between, acid & krautrock (yes!). already massive support from ivan smaghe, ewan pearson, chloe, simian mobile disco, tim paris, jerry bouthier...
