i made music together with lee for years (alongside mick rolfe) as last waltz. he also worked as lizards with james hadfield (james released solo for me me me 02), oli worriner, is a talented young northerner who’s already making a great name for his solo output, both under his own name and his traela alias, as well his label “tunnyl recordings”.
i’m really flattered that they’ve let me release their first full solo release, and i love how they’ve brought out each others deeper and more emotive sides in these 2 tracks. shit robot is a hero of mine. i basically wore out the grooves on a bunch of his dfa stuff from just over 10 years ago, and i’ve avidly bought everything he’s released since. i met him this summer for the first time when we shared the bill at a festival, and was so happy to find that he’s also lovely guy in real life. they say you should never meet your heroes, but i don’t subscribe to that as this meeting led to not one, but two fantastic remixes for me me me 08. the originals are a bright mix of melodically analogue left leaning house, while the remixes zero-in on a punchier dancefloor vibe, with an epic version goodnight, as well a more heads down disco dub.

recorded on september 10, 1964, prior to his well-known association with john coltrane, this eponymous album (later renamed pharoahs first) is the debut release of the iconic tenor saxophonist. (yes, there are some spelling oddities here: the artist birth name ferrell only later changed the spelling from the standard pharaoh to the more personalized pharoah.) with one foot in mainstream jazz – pianist jane getz had played with charles mingus and the other, tentatively at times, in the avant-garde, this is a fascinating glimpse of sanders’ style before he wielded the unremitting fierceness of his playing with coltrane and the modal mysticism of his later solo albums on impulse. interestingly, in recent years he has deployed a more polished version of this sort of vant-flavored bop, bringing his career full circle and strongly suggesting that the hybrid heard here was not due to any failure of nerve on his debut but rather was the cornerstone of his conception. esp-disk has issued this album under three different covers, for its 21st-century reissue on vinyl, we have chosen to use the second and most beautiful. it is augmented with liner notes by a current esp-disk’ artist, tenor saxophonist ras moshe burnett of the red microphone, who can be heard accompanying amina baraka on their eponymous 2017 release.

what started out as a simple email exchange between a young, hungry beatmaker and a seasoned player in the worlds of jazz and midwestern indie hip-hop, has resulted in a vibrant record nearly a decade in the making. on one side of let it out sits miles bonny, a long time musical collaborator who spent his youth soaking in powerful musical moments in nyc under the tutelage of his trumpet-slinging father, francis bonny, and later as a teen immersed in new york s busy indie-hip-hop scene. as he grew up miles cemented himself a niche in the midwest, most notably in lawrence, kansas where tireless forays into beatmaking led to the founding of the much-loved innatesounds crew and record label, as well as a series of solo releases and collaborative projects.

hundebiss bossman simone trabucchi - a pivotal figure of the italian scene - debuts his still alias on pan with a batch of banging, multi-layered dancehall tracks inspired by the complex historical links between his hometown, vernasca, with jamaica, and italy’s colonial past in ethiopia. part of a wider visual arts project, invernomuto, helmed alongside simone bertuzzi, and comprising a series of sculptures, installations, a book, and a long-feature experimental documentary under the title ‘negus’‘, simone takes cues from a “cleansing counter-ritual performed by lee ‘scratch’ perry in the vernasca square where 80 years earlier, an effigy of haile selassie i was burned” to cook up a madd set of dancehall tracks voiced by six milan-based, african-italian vocalists and singers...

a rather fruity brazilian, french spoken erotic version f painel de controle single we put out a couple of years ago that sits somewhere between euro disco and the original track. always enjoyed playing this one out in the club as an answer record to the o.g so its good to have this one at 45rpm as well.

‘utopia’ is the ninth studio album from the iconic artist björk, out november 24th via one little indian records. the album s artwork was created in collaboration of m/m, jesse kanda and james merry and reflects the records sonic direction, optimism, lightness, utopia. of the album she explained to dazed this summer that, ““maybe that’s why it became a utopian theme – if we’re gonna survive not only my personal drama but also the sort of situation the world is in today, we’ve got to come up with a new plan, if we don’t have the dream, we’re just not gonna change. especially now, this kind of dream is an emergency.” björk wrote, produced and recorded the album between reykjavik and new york, working closely with arca and writing for, conducting and recruiting a thirteen piece flute orchestra which will be on the road with her next year.

nice price deal !!! born near the french border and growing up in the 90’s, dirk lamprecht aka dml developed a strange but even more so strong interest in hardcore-techno. but this style quickly became too limited for him and he adopted the sound of detroit, carl craig, kenny larkin and robert hood became the most influencial artists for him. over the years he became affiliated with an even greater spectrum of musical influences, ranging from all sorts of electronic music to jazz and even world music. in addition he graduated as an audio engineer and started to perform as a live act in 2002. more knowledge consequently leads to a much more diverse way of producing own tracks. in 2007 dirk lamprecht made his debut under his alias >dml< on the legendary label harthouse. his productions range from tribalistic via hypnotic, with a hint of detroit under his real name and from a touch of minimal, through melodramatic to straight techno under his alias dml

one of the most pivotal figures in the history of malian music is sorry bamba. his work spans five decades and his music bridges the gap between mali s cultural traditions and new the music which arose from the musical cross overs which occurred in mali s post-colonial period. bamba was born in 1938 in mopti. this is dissected by both the niger and bani rivers and known for its rich cultural diversity. bamba s father was a distinguished veteran of emperor samory toure s military and a nobleman in malian society, however, this meant young sorry was forbidden to make music, as under the nation s caste system, music was an art form reserved for the griots.
in 1977 sorry produced his second lp for the paris based sonafric group. long out of print africa seven is pleased to be re-issuing the lp. the re-issue benefits from extensive restoration and re-mastering to a spectral analysis level, bringing and polishing long lost and distorted sounds.

today, we are glad to introduce you to our tone series remix series. one and a half years after the launch of the parent label, tone series has released five eps (consisting of two tracks each), all composed by french musician david k. and almost halfway between the first release ts10 and the last one ts01 (ts06 came out at the beginning of september 2017), we thought it would be interesting to ask artists we like to reinterpret one of david s creations.as a result, we re delighted to present you as 1st ep (tsrs01) of this tone series remix series: dipe (ts09) re-drummed by french music composer and dj traumer as well as winter bells (ts06) remixed by japanese artist tomoki tamura, both artists getting the ball rolling for this new soulful and colourful series.
