federsen returns to fifth interval for another sublime instalment of dance floor friendly dub-techno. dewpoint is an altogether tighter affair when compared to the label s first release, point reyes. the drums are taut and razor-sharp, propelling the listener effortlessly through a dense fog of ferric clouds, swelling to fill the outer-reaches of the echo chamber. a highly polished metallic production style that can be compared to some of andy stott s early and classic works. tomas rubek remixes dewpoint for the b-side, remaining faithful to the original track s structure but viewing it through a tinted lens. dewpoint s chords become iridescent, kick drums fall into a straighter pattern and are backed by further dusty percussion, shifting the original into spheres inhabited by the likes of rod modell and fluxion.

*in a dream* is the third album from the juan maclean. if anything, this new lp is further evidence of the *undeniable creative chemistry between house music wizard juan maclean and vocalist / former lcd soundsystem member nancy whang* (pitchfork). the album takes its musical cues from moroders munich to the funky nassau sounds of compass point and to anytime in downtown nyc. co-produced by nick millhiser (holy ghost!). the vinyl lp includes a download code.

liverpool-based producer bantam lions has long been part of the scenery records family, helping label boss asok launch the imprint with 2012s one to one ep. here he returns with his third 12 inch for the label. lead cut *recollections* is particularly good, delivering a deep and attractive fusion of fuzzy analogue warm, dreamy melodies and intoxicating chords. he ups the tempo further on *many years later*. which layers dubbed-out chords and swirling textures over an energy-packed techno groove. the accompanying remixes are pretty tasty, too, with the cyclist particularly impressing with his detroit techno-goes-lo-fi interpretation of *recollections*. that said, the dreamy, new age-influenced downtempo take from mood hut regular cloudface is pretty darn good, too.

afr welcome uk based producer tomas rubeck for their 4th release with the fm ep. rubeck serves up 2 slices of dub infused deep techno, laden with atmospherically processed field recordings, crisp beats and sub aquatic synthesis. two special remixes are also included which are an amalgamation of both tracks. spanish duo exium are first up who take things down a more trippy, hypnotic road, followed by animal farms quail whos pulsing, broken beat effort further deepens the ep. all tracks mastered by conor dalton @ glowcast mastering.

skylax welcomes f.t.g., known to house music scholars as freddy the groove, and his many friends for our next release in 2014. last year, f.t.g. and his italian partner in crime, marco riff (who also appears on this very record), pressed a very limited run of a single-sided, special throwback tribute to late 80s chicago house music. the track was aptly named ‘tribute ’89’, and it put a more dancefloor oriented twist on a track by a certain originator with the initials r.h. needless to say, it became highly sought-after incredibly quickly and fuel was further added to the fire by the repeated club play by none other than the dj idol ricardo villalobos. luckily for our followers, that original mix appears on this ep with another unreleased mix of the track and 2 originals featuring belfie and alex tea alongside f.t.g.with enough said about ‘tribute ‘89’ itself, the unreleased mix maintains the warehouse vibe with a heavy kick and bouncing bass pattern but takes it to another level with the introduction of rolling vocal cuts and a rather ravey synth line. flipping over the to b-side, we are treated with two tracks by f.t.g. and alex tea, named ‘public enemy’ and ‘bango’, with the former also seeing belfie lend a helping hand in the production. both of these originals round out the record nicely and cement it as another skylax release that is definitely not to be missed

vacuum geometry ep is the first release of the 30drop project. four tracks have been edited, to further on be understood as a conclusion of the experiment and evolution of detroit techno on one hand, and as a dark and industrial european techno on the other hand. with this, a new a mix of styles is born, acquiring a particular and differential sound expressed by hypnotic, synthetic and cosmic textures, and by oppressive and evocative pads.

giallo disco journeys further east with the release of baskin. our first original soundtrack written by turkish composer volkan akaalp for the short film by enfant terrible can evranol (to my mother and father). baskin tells the story of four cops discovering a nightmare of lovecraftian proportions during a routine investigation. this incredible soundtrack is an eastern twist on the works of fabio frizzi, industrially corroded by early 90s r&s records. shot independently in istanbul, turkey, during the height of the gezi riots baskin has been described as disgusting. disorienting. brilliant by horror director eli roth. comes with a full colour sleeve and two exclusive remixes on the b-side by giallo disco heads vercetti technicolor and antoni maiovvi. things are about to get weird...

nelistening back, ‘interlude’ will feel like the perfect opening to ‘skylax’. a jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with jason’s signature flourishes all over it. aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. speaking of, ‘the love’ will have you gripped from the first bar. it glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of jason’s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. ‘old dayz’ touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. the spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped latin sample-led beat. from there, ‘rawkicks 2’ shows jason’s rough and ready sampling style in action. a seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. ‘cut b’ contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. that said, it still has the classic jg atmosphere we love. closing out the first half of the album, ‘definition’ slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track’s momentum into something very mellow and deep.bringing in the second half of ‘skylax’, ‘john blue’ takes things back a notch further. a deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from jason. ‘last night’ is a track more reminiscent of jason’s first lost cuts ep on wax classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. the last four tracks of the album see a return to the ‘mastercuts’ and ‘lovedits’ series which fans will recognize from the ‘lost cuts’ records, with ‘lovedits 7’ and ‘mastercut 5’ respectively. the former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature jg touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. ‘bb’ brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.all in all, this is the perfect follow up to jason’s debut album ‘313.4.ever’, with tracks for both the club and home listening. if you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don’t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with ‘skylax’ on cd!so, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and djs out there

r&s keep things in the family with mpia3s brother tessela dropping his debut ep for the label. since 2011, ed russell has been moulding a style of dance music as tessela that has evolved to become a distinctly futuristic animal that is equal parts rave, jungle and techno as it incorporates classic breaks into delirious new mutations. the three tracks on this ep all follow on from his superb *hackney parrot* track but evolve his sound even further. nancys pantry combines bruising kick drums and some slick editing of the think break, before plunging headlong into thundering techno. horizons percolating hi hats and rough-hewn percussion roll off repeating chords that recall the heady days of rave. gateways uncomplicated arrangement of high hats, sub bass, siren like synths and quaking kick drums rattle through the tracks chassis and club soundsystems. early supporters to the tracks include ben ufo, pariah, surgeon, pearson sound and paul woolford, testement to what might be tesselas most lethal offering yet.

gutts are a jaded wrestling double act that were much celebrated in the golden era of uk wrestling in the 1980s. after a slow-decline into inactivity and relative obesity they decided to make a comeback in 2013 as an electronic music band called gutts. both neil landstrumm and alan hostage have recently reached peak-fitness through circuit training and eating salad for dinner, toning up for this new heavy-hitting vinyl release on glasgows horror boogie. both were last seen, exiting landstrumms analogue graveyard shouting *not the ears, not the ears* and *i demand to be treated like a sultan*. no further details were available at this time.

gilesku records is back with two eccentric minimalistic techno tracks delivered by onur ozer. obviously heavily influenced by peak hours in the club, these tracks will serve their purpose right, providing a perfect hook to drive people further in a higher state of consciousness. by paying close attention to detail, he manages to provide music where he bravely paints fat techno sounds with minimalistic elements, layering them by unconventional noises in the background. a peak time material!

having spent the beginning of the year working with his own intergalactic techno band, greasing the project and finally publishing ep vect?r (chaval records), victor santana returns with the first of a brand new solo collection, the seven series. to celebrate the release yet further, victor has drafted in two of technos ultimate heavy-weights: terrence dixon and orlando voorn.

having spent most of 2012 so far further establishing itself as a global bastion of forward thinking electronic dance music, the rwina label is changing things up a little with an ep from young dutch producer jameszoo.
on faaveelaa jameszoo displays the kind of brazen ingenuity that youth affords by drawing inspiration from dancehall before finding its edge to craft an entirely new take on the genre and using that to paint a colourful sonic picture of what he imagines a favela might look like. sounds mad? it is, in a good way. by his own admittance the picture he paints is also a bit messy, yet there is beauty in chaos. as for the inspiration, it can sometimes be hard to hear at first though anyone familiar with jamaicas dancehall tradition will recognise the instantly catchy quality of faaveelaas riddims.

this monterous techno anthem is oscillating between n.cuer usual minimal style and physical records fearsome atmosphear, develloping with a huge leads and squeaky sounds, undoubtinglys been prepared to set fire on the floor. as for b side, we get two remixes made by the label co-owners and main artist mik zif and midwooder. the first is drilling deeper into darkness with a proper physical techno rave style rmx. when the second is digging deeper into minimal techno, bringing the original tunes a bit more of deepness, while still keeping it ultra dancefloor efficient. definitely about to make a lot of noise in the techno scene this year and further, overload destruction and its remixes appears to be unmissable titles for any minimal and techno sets!

hush arbors and arbouretum have each been exploring for years now the intersection of progressive folk and psychedelic rock, albeit filtered through their own distinct sounds. it was only a matter of time before their paths would cross. keith wood and dave heumann met at a show in baltimore and discovered their mutual appreciation for each others music. the two bands planned a joint european tour, and recorded aureola to further showcase and celebrate their complimentary sounds.

shawn osullivan of up and coming new york new wave bands led er est and further reductions, brings us the latest release on wt. the easiest description would be drop bass network meets berghain dub techno meets the new sound of amsterdam with a little bit of acid and industrial sprinkled in, but you should listen to the clips yourself to decide. shawn takes synths, drummachines, a sequencer and some effects and records one take on a stereo track. this leaves room for wild mistakes, personal moments, and blown out sound. its a classic techno sound that sounds like it should have been done before, but hasnt.

r&s finish off another excellent year with a brand new ep from james blake. his cmyk and klavierwerke releases for the label are widely regarded to be amongst his best work, and these three new tracks will further his reputation as one of the finest auteurs working in electronic music today.

neon dreams is the debut album from london-based producer and night slugs co-founder james connolly, aka l-vis 1990. across 15-tracks and 55-minutes, james distils a lifetimes worth of musical influences and experiences while conveying the story of the last 12 months in his life through vocalists samantha lim and javeon mccarthy. 2010s *forever you* single, which featured mccarthy, was a key jumping off point in establishing the overall vibe of neon dreams. the track features here as a slimmed down, 3.5 minute version. this length represents approximately the average track-duration across the entire lp, and is indicative of james long-held desire to proffer an album in very much the traditional sense of the term. further vocal turns come from co-founder of the sound pellegrino imprint and french hip-hop outfit ttc, teki latex.

its been two years since pawas gupta contributed an enchanting remix on sirions first vinyl release. constant communication and cooperation lead to this all in all accomplished project called >huis huis ep<. pawas productions start off smooth and impress with delightful elements and perpetual dynamic. the development of each track is rarely predictable. tempting the act of prolonged anticipation is a delicate one and leads further and further into remote realms. carried into the sec repetitive parts by finely tuned synth-boosts makes us realize the force briefly before being caught up in the hypnotic sounds again. propelling deep house with a pinch of funk and a touch of detroit - the classic yet brilliant pawas style! moon harbours chris lattner needs no long introductions. releases on nrk, einmaleins, fear of flying and luna records speak for themselves, are proof of a successful and active time. the dry yet truly ideal base frame for subtle but succinct modules for this remix is its effective substance. the static sub bass, fulminate and with an enormous thrust, is reminiscent of the miami bass age - virtuous modulations, the very complexion of mr lattner. he remains true to himself, we like!

the first release on the hotly anticipated recore records, a-fair comprises of three tracks from jack barton, with a remix for the lead track from pawas, a must have name in anybodies record collection. jack barton although relatively new to production, with this his second release, he is no stranger to making waves on the dancefloor and can be regularly seen playing not only in his hometown of manchester, but also much further afield. this ep showcases his talents as a producer with a spectrum of sounds from each track.

ashford & simpsons return to europe for the first time in 20 years is celebrated with the release of this 16 classic song compilation on limited edition double album. nicholas ashford & valerie simpson are soul icons responsible for gold and platinum hits through the 60s, 70s and 80s for such artists as marvin gaye, chaka khan, diana ross and gladys knight (their solo hits include >solid<). this is the first time many of these have been assembled on one collection, but expansion have gone one step further by combining the hits with seminal disco records like >over & over< (sylvester), the two-step anthem >keep away girls< (stephanie mills), the awesome >california soul< (by marlena shaw, as utilized by kfc), the modern soul smash >top of the stairs< (collins & collins) and an exclusive remix of >aint no mountain high enough< (marvin gaye/tammi terrell).

the intermezzo ep kicks off with we are here, which could be easily described as get out part 2. a spoken word vocal over kerris trademark beats and instrumentation, musing on the subject of a busy schedule and calways available technology. so it begins again takes things down a much more tribal road, perfect for a big room, and the dc10 mix is a nod towards the direction kerri had in mind and the dancefloors he created this track for. the dark mix takes this idea even further with a more progressive feel as the track plays out. red lights explores a more live drum feel with a cut-up breakbeat playing a 4/4 rhythm, and a throbbing bassline and synth pattern. this one is a little deeper but still packs plenty of punch!

further to motor city drum ensembles dj kicks compilation, his exclusive single l.o.v.e. has been reworked by the young detroit prodigy kyle hall, the painter and music creator wolfgang voigt and an excellent remix by smallpeople. kyle has been highly influenced and captivated by the underground deep house sound of detroit. inspired by artists such as theo parrish, mike huckaby, rick wade, 3 chairs, kdj and omar s, who believe their music has a certain feeling of the advant garde and liberation from the so-called rules people place upon dance music. kyle took that principle of their music and applied it to music that he was trying to create. wolfgang voigt is known for his numerous, nearly inexhaustible list of one-off projects and aliases. of these, his best known is arguably >gas< a project that saw the marriage of ambient music and 4/4 techno. his remix of motor citys l.o.v.e shows his minimalistic approach to music he has been famed for worldwide. smallpeople are julius steinhoff & just von ahlefeld aka dionne. smallpeople are focused on a wider range of music and can be diverse- between deep house, detroit techno and some chicago flavours but always within the balance of atmospheric warmth and club suitability bringing yet another perfect addition to this remix package. watch out for more big tunes from smallpeople in the near future

the next coup by sirion records is from none other than one of the founding fathers, fedja haueter aka feodor and his fellows alex torriglia aka mo-tek and beni dossenbach aka balance. the trio, better known as vol-tek, has played a key role since the very beginnings of sirion s musical outpours and was represented in sr001 with a remix. numerous remixes and their own release sr005 - vol-tek - male & female are further to be mentioned. a part from sirion records the trio was represented at friends labels such as cristian paduraru or samy freshs augenringe records. but their next big thing is yet to come, as the threesome has been finishing tracks throughout the past year and surely need to be reckoned with in the future. the tracks after dark and conciliator are both rather deep, playful tech-house gimmicks, enriched with a bit of progressive.

perspectiv welcomes french producer nhar with 2 sweet tracks that already got played on bbc radio 1 by seth troxler. the title track is backed by an equally impressive remix by john daly. tapping into human emotions, using vocals and touching on an almost neo-romantic feel, nhar has once again developed his sound further still. irish producer john daly takes the blissful original and adds his own touch of progressive rawness. the originals electronica edge is smoothed by dalys deepness allowing us to be drawn in yet further. johns dub mix is a stunning piece of beautifull house with an array of kaleidoscopic synths that sweep beautifully and boldly within focus. serious niceness, this dub mix! another great perspectiv release! played by: seth troxler, ripperton, deetron, soulclap, agnes, noze, nicolas jaar, d julz etc.
