this has always been a rare 12inch originally only released in the uk in 1979, phoenix was considered to be too disco at the time and the release pretty much sank without trace - one reason why finding those original uk 12inches is near on impossible these days. just 2 copies on discogs and a mint one will be circa £50 if you re ever lucky enough to find one. however, since 1979 phoenix has grown in stature and what was once considered to be a twee disco tune has now become a huge collector s item and a staple in the right clubs. no surprise really as this is norman connors at the top of his game and the production is red-hot. how phoenix never made it to 12inch vinyl in the u.s. is one of the great mysteries of life but here it is on beautiful fresh 12inch vinyl some 38 years later. as with all our 12inch re-issues we ve replicated the original label. luckily there are no bootlegs to contend with on this release, so this is the first re-issue of this song since the original release date, so order with confidence

paul white received universal acclaim for producing the majority of danny browns genre-defying atrocity exhibition album. in 2016 he also released a collaborative record with open mike eagle, and began work on a slew of solo material to be released on r&s records. with a free beat tape ‘everything youve forgotten’ released in january he now returns with danny brown on two tracks that showcase a producer at the very top of his game and one of the most exciting mcs of his generation. accelerator is a fuzzed-out psych monster that defies conventions about what rap music should sound like in 2017, while lions den proves that paul white and danny brown can beat the traditionalists at their own game too. instrumentals are included for both, as well as hand-drawn artwork by paul white himself.

the ninth installment on tabla records comes from none other than dj/producer, multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer, alexkid. the former parisian turned berliner is without a doubt one of the most respected producers in the game. his stripped back, elegant and dubby sound-constructions have previously found their way on to labels such as desolat, fuse, cadenza and underground quality. now alexkid has supplied tabla records with two of these very unique tunes. his reset-ep shows the kids preferences for the dubbier and deeper sides of electronic music. both originals - fu-man-chu and reset - are delightfully bass driven. london based archie hamilton - owner of moscow records and key member of fuse london - rounds up this three-track-ep with an uplifting and stupendous remix, that can be described as a typical hamilton-groove.

anfang diesen jahres führte domino records mit domino documents ein sublabel für außergewöhnliche studio-aufnahmen ein, die innerhalb eines tages unter live-bedingungen entstanden sind. nun folgt das frisch gegründete sublabel domino soundtracks, das sein augemerkt auf die musik legt, die manch einer als nur filmisches beiwerk unterschätzt. die erste veröffentlichung darauf entstammt der feder des domino-veteranen dan deacon. mitte oktober erscheint sein soundtrack zur film-dokumentation rat film. die dokumentation ist das portrait der us-amerikanischen stadt baltimore und dessen menschen- wie auch ratten-bevölkerung. die probleme, die mit beider notgedrungenen koexistenz entstehen, bebildert rat film mit überaus einfallsreichen mitteln und erzählt so die kraftvolle geschichte urbaner, sozialer und ethnischer ungleichheiten. dan deacon, bekannt für seinen lustvollen und euphorischen electro-pop ausdruck, hat seinen musikalischen stil für rat film in zurückhaltendere aber nicht minder erfinderische gefilde verschoben. so fand er sogar einen weg, die eigentlichen hauptakteure des films, ratten, eine eigene stimme zu verleihen.
