The ecstatic sounds of a fruit machine spewing out winnings or a computer game bleeping a player upwards to the next level chirp and bleep all over ‘True Beauty (And Other Things), a jubilant and chaotic tape from Philadelphia’s Nah aka Michul Kuun. His first release under new alias Michul Kuun, the seven track album lurches between church bells, angsty video game chimes and battered drums (Kunn pummelled drums in punk band 1994! in the past). There are flashes of mutated house and techno (“Threes, Threes, Threes” and “Written House”) as panicky, stammery rhythm structures are built up, battered down then kicked around. “Taking Station” seems like it’s going to be the most mellow, almost melodic jam, then rounds off with a solid minute of air horn, before exiting on what sounds like a motorbike through a swooshing traffic for jittery finisher, “Follow Thruu”. - Claire Sawers, for Wire Magazine
