alex suarez is part of a new breed of producers based out of brooklyn carving out their own unique sound experimenting in the world of raw primordial electronics. under the name cienfuegos, he has prior releases on brooklyn s primitive languages imprint as well as the france s unknown precept label-with his new -lost in god s country- ep we see him debut on the new york centered bank records. through the four tracks cienfuegos harkens back to the time of early industrial music, not far off from the early transmissions of spk or even hinting at sounds akin to e.g. oblique graph. suarez has a knack for developing textures and tension in his music sewing it all together with plodding rhythms and the occasional creeper vocal. heavyweight stuff coming most highly recommended.

springing up from the osaka underground club music scene in 2006, hino is a rhythm master, intimately examining and extending pulses and grooves in his various projects. ypy is hinos long-running rhythmic solo dna lab, in which he investigates impulsion and propulsion, using drum machines and synthesizers in an organic and vital manner to create living and evolving percussive biosystems which are more than electronic music etudes.

the hidden meaning of number 13 is change, the death of something and its rebirth. this is the idea behind gabriel dor & bordoys new album 13, which is meant to be a turning point on their career. influenced by old school techno but also by modern sounds, after 6 years of production partnership, theyve decided to release their first entirely unpublished lp. the album, made out of 13 cuts, starts with a dark intro that paves the way into a forceful kind of techno, followed by vintage sounds with gloomy touches and sometimes even emotional ones. they have used many instruments and samples discovered along the way on this composition process, plus lots of others found in the previous years. the sounds put together on this album have been carefully picked to preserve their uniqueness, while trying to walk on a different path.

the ep originally released on raster-noton in 2001, it never been released on vinyl till now. and finally available again briefly on japanese label flau s raum series. new pressing now available on clear vinyl. open close open, the title of robert lippok s release, can obviously be seen in the context of daily maxims: instructions you can find on packagings, household appliances, stereo systems and other operating instructions. neverthelesss, open close open also stands in connection with making things like space and perception accessible to yourself - and therefore with the opening of a fictious memory. on this release, analogue field recordings, digital remains and cultural fragments are condensed into an accoustic space. the call of crows and door slamming noises meet looped sound pieces from a minidisc recorder and samples from a mahler symphony.

yalta is a resort city on the southern coast of the crimean peninsula surrounded by the black sea. this place has heavily influenced a talented artist pavel milyakov also known as buttechno. this album is his dedication to yalta, but it’s not just about geographical location, it’s about a special and sacred state of mind and soul that the producer calls -yalta-. this very personal work of a mature author reflects his deep and multifaceted approach to the research of the sound language.

aqueous, enormous, timeous with waiting alpine, senking offers ous two deep water metabolisms. he cuts through slowly shifting masses with his unique resonance testing and precisely stacked sound waves, making underwater mountain ranges shake and disperse into floating pieces. cologne-based musician and artist senking had his debut on karaoke kalk in 1995, since then he has released several records on raster-noton, among others. his productions explore the depths of electronic music, creating an athmosphere of being 100 miles below sea level.

asher levitas is perhaps best known as part of old apparatus, the acclaimed and enigmatic london experimental outfit. over the last few years he has featured on releases for labels including deep medi, houndstooth and left blank as ‘saa’ with the singer linn carin dirdal.
‘lit harness’, his first solo album, started forming as a project in 2015 alongside the artist and writer michael crowe who worked on the live a/v show while asher created the music with vocalist marina elderton (from the ethereal psych band kull) who features on the tracks.

(pressed in archer, detroit) the first installment of 12 ep from jeff mills new solo lp, free fall galaxy, the ninth chapter of his science-fiction story sleeper wakes, and first since 2014s emerging crystal universe.

ambitious and captivating, expansive, textured and unique, this is herd’s ‘arteater’.

music is about discourse: it’s about ideas, about the intellectual project. anyone can build a “beat”, but not everybody can produce an interesting argument for it. this implies the idea of romanticism as a notion of tradition and respect for certain rules. romanticism understood as virtuosity in the manipulation of art production tools. virtuosi of their own methodology. certain pedigree of virtuosity is definitely needed…but in many regards it also remains an extremely conventional formalism, which is at the core of every artist. it doesn’t matter if you have to piss around in the subterranean electronic music trenches for over two decades. a true pioneer simply has to live with that sort of dichotomy. here there are two good examples.

this is an album of deeply emotional music. it s not all heartfelt niceties and eye-welling moods though. rhythmic theory did after all come to light (or should that be dark) in the gloomy alleyways of uk soundsystem music begat from dubstep and all that other stuff. -creeper- is on hand to affirm that this is a record still steeped in true, stern moodiness, where a stalking sub line, some metallic percussion and an icy drone can still strike fear more than a thousand angry wobble basslines. it s worth noting how much attention has been given to shorter vignettes. as well as the aforementioned, cryptically titled -interlude-, -work of fiction- and -end (of forever)- both give insights into the places rhythmic theory cares to roam beyond the structure of a long form track. these are places where melancholic or downright ambiguous dispositions interplay with each other, from the synthetic to the earthly, the malevolent to the tender. in the end, even at its most monochromatic, nothing is black and white on rhythmic theory s debut album, and that s just fine with us.

spätestens mit dem meisterwerk and they have escaped the weight of darkness- und seinem prämierten soundtrack für die tv-serie broadchurch wird olafur arnalds in einem atemzug mit jungen, angesagten, multitalentierten komponisten wie nils frahm oder jon hopkins genannt. diese verstehen es perfekt, experiment und abenteuer der elektronischen musik mit der sensibilität klassischer musik zu verbinden, und wie hier auf der neuen late night tales mit brilliantem post-dubstep (koreless, james blake) zu ergänzen. olafur arnalds steuert dazu mehrere exklusive tracks bei (ua seines techno-projekts kiasmos), sowie die obligatorische coverversion (destiny s child say my name!). der ausklang erfolgt wie immer mit einer spoken word-perfomance, diesmal vom britischen broadchurch hauptdarsteller david tennant.

energydream ep is entirely based on vocal house samples, deprived of their frenzy soul and arranged into a new melancholic mood. the frosty vibrations generated from the textures produced and the ambient arrangements bring the listener into a dimensionwhich lives within a purist vision of the dance floor and anastral journey. a typical approach which has been marking dave s productions for a long time.

british art-rock band no-man (tim bownes & stewen wilson w mick karn, richard barbieri, steve jansen, ben coleman) recorded heaven taste in the studio sessions in summer 1992. it got first released as a complete 21 mins version on painting paradise ep on one little indian (1993). the track drew attention in the rising ambient techno scene and got played by djs like mixmaster morris. the track fuses ambient techno with art rock and features a distinctive fretless bass solo by mick karn. this super sound 45rpm 12- features a steven wilson edited 11.21 mins version of the original and on b-side jimi tenor s rearrange with some solos with flute and keyboard. file under: ambient techno

20 jahre nach dem flanger debüt auf ninja tune erweitern atom™ und burnt friedman ihre vorstellung von technoidem, zeitgemäßen jazz auf drei neuen nonplace titeln. die spinner ep (non42) bringt den womöglich brutalsten flanger-track spinner, der auf dem 2015 erschienenen album -lollopy dripper (non41, titel -spin) basiert. das 12 minuten lange, transmutierende loose joints in abwegigem rhythmus-modus (15) und der 4/4 club-track it from bit sind dagegen zwei 2016er originale mit swingender körperspannung und unruhig flickerndem glühen. dezent verpixelt versteht sich.

trolldans once again opens its musical tome of fairy tales, this time featuring the gif-ted sound sculptor edanticonf. in his chapter of the trolldans volume, edanticonf presents us with the three crying fairies. it is a tale in four parts of desire and tears - as every good story should be. the first fairy tells us about a lake in the deep woods where a young princess called tuvstarr once lost her gold heart. no creature of the forest could convince the princess to let it go, and so she stayed there by the black lake until she turned into a beautiful flower. the second fairy tells us how the princess, before she lost her precious necklace, would ride like the wind through the forest on the back a grand elk. the princess loved the thrill and the elk loved the princess. vril steps in and actually lets us hear the noble elks heart racing from both the pace and his devotion to tuvstarr. the third fairy ends endanticonfs beautiful but melancholy tale with a glimmer of hope: by the darkest of lakes, the loveliest flo-wers grow. the end.

exotic pungent basement rebellion

‘circular dispute’ is an exploration that incorporates soft textures, mellow kicks and changes in bass pressure to convey mystical movement. the rigid half-time marker slowly fades in, turning circular pressure into a subtle roller that simply defies the rules of gravity. hysee applies an even more intricate formula to ‘isolator’, one that bends attentive low-end textures and minimalistic percussion through time and space. the way it travels, progresses and ends makes this production a groove on its own & an excellent add to ‘vv003’. hysee’s last succession on the record strikes slowly but steadily, waves of deepening frequencies, mesmerising synths and arrhythmic choirs form the pendulum of his signature sound. this closing production allows listeners to drift off to another dimension or subconscious vibration. visceral vibrations’ third acquisition holds the talent of the italian producer hysee, who takes part in our lineage of forward-thinking bass music. with a review hosted by the trusted fatkidonfire blog and airplay support by influential artists, we’re ready to present ‘vv003’ to the world.

gone beyond. that s what they say when an (astro) pilot crashes to earth and takes the journey into the big sky. when juan trippe took that last flight little did he know that his re-incarnated self would be an electronic pioneer. in tandem with his co-pilot guido zen (his own father also a pilot) and kyle martin (from the land of light) they formed brain machine and scaled the highest peaks to bring back music both unearthly and intensely human. are we all not stardust anyway? this music proves it, takes you out flips you over and rolls you in stardust. don t try and think it through, make sense of it, grasp it - just wander in wonder and bask in beauty. get lost again.

ritornell’s richard eigner & abby lee tee originally teamed up to provide the score for a collaboration with filmmaker andreea sasaran and illustrator katja seifert entitled »melting sphere«. sharing a passion for the combination of filigree electronics with playful timbres of diverse acoustic instruments and odd utensils, the cooperation of the two producers was a logical choice.
»melting sphere« merges subsonic bass, kalimba rhythms, accordion sounds and toy bells, all framed by eavesdropping recordings of abby lee tee’s cat, bathroom squeaks for five minutes of organic downbeat bliss.
»tired dancers« on the flipside offers a melancholy tale of seduction relayed from the shadows, with field recordings of nightly city noise, a reversed music box melody, hypnotic chords and meticulous percussion. delicate, celestial cello (by lukas lauermann) and contrabass flute emerge as counterpoint to this rhythmic hypnosis.
this record is as shimmering as you would expect.
