on “5 star motel”, that younger gitkin (henceforth referred to simply as gitkin) has sought to expand the philosophy he encountered on that tape. the guitar is common thread, the raft to navigate a sun-dappled stream of ideas. it’s an embrace of cultures where folkloric stringed instruments still rule, or where they ve led to a more recent embrace of the electric guitar. he traces the loose, meandering paths which join them together.

2018 repress ,how much do you really know about nina kraviz? shes a russian techno dj, an accomplished producer, one of dance musics breakthrough names of the last five years. true enough, but theres so much more to her story than that. shes one of electronic musics most interesting characters, someone who has stuck to her musical guns since day one, someone who has wide-ranging roots that run deep in the past, yet shes also the embodiment of the future. her signature sound is a raw blend of house and techno with a very acidic feel. if that feels very now, kraviz has a lot to do with it, which is why she was asked to mix the latest instalment of !k7s landmark dj kicks series.

in addition to the music, de:tuned has worked with designer kevin foakes from openmind (aka strictly kev, dj food from ninja tune) who has translated the diverse musical theme of the album into stunning graphic artwork.

*agraphobia* by la synthesis is considered by many as one of the most beautifully crafted string-driven techno tracks of all time. originally released in 1994 it has received somewhat of a legendary cult status. 21 years later it is now time to breathe new life into this essential track and make it available again for a new generation of electronic music enthusiasts. together with de:tuned, la synthesis handpicked some of their favourite producers to rework the original and the results are mind-boggling to say the least.

ryan teague is a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in bristol. his music combines acoustic instrumentation and arrangements with electronic and processed material, often incorporating minimalist, ambient and electro-acoustic styles

a choice dj friendly selection from tim sweeney s bis 15th anniversary mix cd, compiled onto 2 x 12inches and featuring edits, rarities, exclusives and influences from tim s record bag. spanning many sounds and with a healthy disregard for genre, just like tim s radio show, this double-pack showcases what listeners can expect to hear on the forthcoming full length.

the ep kicks off with empire of dust, an epic and brooding electro beast with powerful, mechanoid drumwork and majestic synth vistas that manages to be euphoric yet dark and grounded at the same time. it was this track whose intent later gave rise to the shape and form of the other 3 tracks on the empires ep.
