brand new detroit duo man vs indian man comprises ian finkelstein (of scott grooves’s overdubs fame) and even haywood. complementing each other’s strengths, the pair make the perfect match as they pour out thick viscously barbed future soul in thick gooey doses, both “ice accountant” and “cloud nine” are wrapped in foggy layers of sleepy textures as the falsetto vocals and lean instrumentation cut through with dreamy delight. remixes from the legendary egyptian lover (cosmic electro), fellow detroitian pontchartrain (filtered disco house) and brazilian table daddy (lolloping dream tech).

indianizer was born in 2013, springing from the minds of psychonauts drawing inspiration from animal collective s wild frenzies and django django s tropical rhythms. following two self-produced eps (-pandas-, 2013 and -jungle beatnik-, 2014), their first full-length -neon hawaii- (edison box/pbp, 2015) was released in 2015. thanks to this debut album, chosen as one of the top 50 records of the year by noisey, the band toured italy and europe. -zenith- is the second full-length produced by the band together with edison box, musica altra and bordello a parigi which will be out on the 27th of march 2018: -a psychedelic texture, ancestral, made possible by vortical bass lines and cosmic patterns. an extraterrestrial cumbia in essence- (rolling stone).

chances are if you are reading this, you are probably already familiar with dinosaur ls go bang and danced countless times to loose joints its all over my face. a prolific musician, arthur russell produced an abundant amount of recordings over the course of his career. although a classically trained cellist, he released a number of successful underground dance hits under various monikers and collaborations. as a solo artist however, his inability to complete projects resulted in a limited amount of official releases, world of echo (1986) being his only full-length solo effort to see release in his lifetime

limited reissue of a very rare and highly in-demand 1986 12 inch from indian ocean, alias of late great disco legend and sleeping bag founder arthur russell. although russells original version on side a is fantastic in itself, the stunning abstract walter gibbons mix on side b is where its all at. with irrepressible madcap gibbons at the helm, the track mutates into a strangely subversive dancefloor odyssey way ahead of its time which still sounds futuristic today. with a raw sparse experimental sound, this progressive sonic journey rolls along for over 10 minutes pulsating with a jazz-influenced interplay of funk-heavy bongos, stabbing synths, off-the-wall vocals and russells trademark cello. one of the great moments to come out of the vibrant art/disco not disco crossover scene of 80s new york - dont miss your chance to bag a vinyl copy of this obscure gem.

next up from the very eclectic rong music is a remix ep from west indian girl.west indian girl is a rock band from los angeles. the bands name comes from a type of lsd that was popular in the early 60s. the initials are also a reference to james and tens previous band, wig scotty coats and wes the mes have fifty years of djing and remixing experience between them but their first release togetheruas wes coatsuis just coming out this month as the first california release on the newly merged dfa and rong music. patterns form hail from texas formed by sammy ragland & chris ornelas in 2000 making a cross between shoegaze trip hop & electronic moving to la in 2004 and forming a full band and have been playing live across the us ever since.
