kalbata has turned his hand to many styles over the years, not least the excellent soundsystem explorations of congo beat the drum, but on this second release for his label brush & broom, he s decided to fling himself into the fiery pit of acid while paying tribute to 90s motocross bikes. honda is dripping with 303, punctuated by a twitchy set of drums, while yamaha takes a diversion into moodier territory, letting hazy chords set the tone for an energised but defiantly heads down acid workout. suzuki is a bit spicier, capturing the essence of up-for-it early trax records but edging it into more hypnotic, looped up territory. toyota finishes the ep off with an atonal bleep out with an electro undercarriage

repress - brainwaltzeras debut lp poly-ana follows quickly on the heels of the producers aescoba ep also released this year via film. across thirteen tracks of both previously released material and fresh excursions into the artists world, brainwaltzera explores sounds ranging from luscious, downtempo grooves and expertly reduced braindance cuts with nods to early 90’s experimental idm to harder, more caustic outings all bound together by a recurring theme of otherworldly ambience. taking its name from a variety of sources dear to the artist, including polyphonic analogue synthesizers and the pol-lyanna principle itself a theory that suggests individuals recall pleasurable experience more acutely than displeasing ones the title represents a meeting point in the artistic process between creative method and conceptual choices. production techniques range from more traditional hardware synthesis to the incorporation of a modified dot matrix printer acting as a modulation source for midi parameters. sample sources include vhs material from the produ-cer’s own childhood and ambient bullet train samples from an on-the-fly production session traveling from tokyo to kyoto. according to the enigmatic producer, memory and its fundamental role in the human experience is one of the central themes of the record. while the artists own experiences shaped the sound of the record, there is no attempt to impose them on the listener through blatant exposition.

“phase” sees a debut outing on vinyl from err rec label head gilles mate’s dialectric project.
impressed by the wealth of wonderfully varied analogue electronic music being released by this small, fiercely independent french label, it was surely a matter of time before py & errs’ likeminded paths crossed- and following a “cold wave” styled small run cassette release, gilles releases a full length on py for august.
“phase” is a timeless, minimal electronic record, heavy on hypnotic, emotional tonal arpeggios and sequences. dreamily crafted introspective pieces, and short “broadcastian” interludes, using a semi-modular system. comprising of various analogue oscillators, effects and sequencers (pittsburgh modular, moog, arturia, yamaha, korg to name a few…).

look we re five records deep and yes, we arent sure which tune is on which side. but luckily, this release is as high concept as speed 2: cruise control. on one side you will find ad, which samples an inspiring speech given by the heroic angela davis at southbank in 2017. listen to her wisdom as you play this in your front room at 7am to people who suddenly can t quite look at their hands properly. the other side pas greets you with warnings of atomic explosions over a riotous jam between a yamaha cs-10 and a sturdy analogue 808 clone. if you have a pressing need for air raid sirens, this is for you. we hope you like this west friends release. there will be more.

synkro aka joe mcbride teams up with veteran arovane aka uwe zahn for a sublime collaborative ep on apollo. refractive (index) sees the duo exploring their shared love of broken beats and dreamy soundscapes. the pair are also connected through their affection for yamahas venerable handheld sequencer, the qy700 (also a favourite of dutch lo-fi house master legowelt) arovane a long time stalwart of the acclaimed city centre offices imprint explains: everything started with a detail in an interview with joe that grabbed my attention. i spotted a qy700 sequencer from yamaha on one photo. i used this piece of gear for decades to sequence all of my hardware and to produce my music. its part of my trademark sound of rhythm programming. one of the factors that makes the qy700 beloved is its ability to change parameters in realtime to shuffle, shift, expand or compress the timing of each pattern independently. its touch can be felt throughout the oscillating rhythmic figures that wend through the gauzy pads and drifting melodies. we share the same wavelength when it come to breakbeats, musical taste and melodies, arovane continues this ep is the beginning of something special!

synthonia is an electronic ambient album released only with analog synths (roland system 100, roland tb 303, roland jx 3p, korg polysix, korg ms 10, korg ms 20, yamaha cs 15, kawai 100f, teisco 100f) which refers to tangerine dream, jean michel jarre, klaus shulze and “the berlin shool” and john carpenter.

the pendletons return with their latest ep, funk forever, a jazz flavored boogie affair with soul inspired song-writing that evokes old school vibes while still staying fresh and current. horn lines, yamaha dx7 keys and snapping hip hop inspired drum programming topped by sweet singing with heartfelt themes, the group carves out a bold new sound on these 5 solid tracks. featuring elive, potatohead people and ishtar. the pendletons are a long-standing boogie-funk and modern soul project of e da boss (of myron and e on stone s throw) and trailer limon. the group emerged with their very first release in 2010, a 7inch inch of coming down/waiting on you on the slept on record label, which set the tone for the group to emerge it instantly became a cult classic receiving constant play at nights like sweater funk and funkmosphere, and fetching for serious sums among collectors. most recently, in 2016, they released the ep gotta get out. the title track caught the ear of renowned dj gilles peterson, who liked it enough to release it on his brownswood bubbler compilation. in 2018 the group is hitting the ground running with a brand new ep out this spring, and a full-length album to follow later later in the year on the renowned bastard jazz label. now armed with a horn section, a vast array of accomplished jazz and funk contributors, and a knack for quality song-writing, the pendletons sound has shaped into something fresh and unique, setting it apart from the legions of imitators.

sacred summits returns after a two-year hiatus with an album of interpretations of the music of eric satie by acclaimed composer morgan fisher. active for over 50 years morgans career has moved from 60s number one hit wonders love affair, to 70s rocknroll keyboardist in mott the hoople, before finally on to 80s ambient, improvisation and soundtracks, working with the likes of yoko ono, haroumi hosono and dip in the pool. based in japan since the mid-80s, fishers long-standing admiration for erik satie (1866- 1925) led to these inside satie recordings. satie’s unique work as a precursor to artistic movements such as minimalism, surrealism and repetitive music are acknowledged but for long periods he was not given the accolades his music warranted. a strange, eccentric, surreal man, he was never as acclaimed as the established masters, but influenced not only the likes of debussy but also many of the dada artists. on this album morgan played his music freely after just a brief look at the scores. recorded in just three days, it features piano, melodica, synthesisers, and morgans favoured tape delay system. inside satie is one of the first albums i recorded in japan shortly after moving here in 1985. in three days i improvised on several of my favourite satie themes. mostly i played piano as well as the rich, analog-sounding yamaha gs-1 (precursor of the dx-7), and sometimes used long tape delays to build layers of sound. all the pieces were recorded in single takes no overdubs (no time!).

siegmar fricke describes his music as -dynamic dancable collage-pop with a 90s technoid tendency-. the music on this release is made by yamaha sampling- keyboards, yamaha multieffects, synthesizers and 60s magnetic tape recorder, recorded on a four-track tascam tape-machine. from 1987 – 1993 he produced twenty four cassette releases, some on his former label bestattungsinstitut and some on other tape-labels all around the globe. this vinyl is a fine selection of various tapes from 1988 – 1993 slightly edited for club use and remastered by berlin s masterchef kitaro from schnittstelle. heavy underground dancematerial for the first time on vinyl!!! comes with a strong extended dancefloor remix by manfredas.

for its latest release, weirdest dream has landed on dopeness galore for a supernova of atmospheric sounds called white worms. weirdest dream is the moniker and playground of stockholm-based galactic explorers daniel fagerström & luciano leiva. with a history of releases on rvng and permanent vacation the duo plays around in a constellation of all analog and early digital synthesizers such as the tr-909, waldorf microwave, yamaha dx7, roland juno-60 and akai mpcs. an ambient cloud of sonic surrealism, white worms is a curious exploration of the celestial sphere through echoes of patrick cowley, sensations fix and tangerine dream.

bordello a parigi has just returned from a fruitful expedition to russia to secure a four tracker from st petersburg synthesizer playboy kito jempere. super sax sounds is a rich and varied expression from an artist who has explored a spread of sounds during his career. the a-side is the product of one diverse machine, the yamaha qy-70. -bueller s dance- gets the show on the road with latin showband flare. the opener brims with cruising notes, crisp claps and smooth bass, a track guaranteed to put a smile on any face. moods change with the tear stained chords of -space commercial-, a superbly subtle work of joy and heartbreak. a colder wind permeates the flip as a cinematic and sinister element enters. toms and snares support the descending bars of -atmosphere-, a track where tropical dreams cloud into despair. those dreams are purged by -tomohawk-, a dark prowler who stalks with a maniacal glint and menacing intent. an audio feast care of kito jempere.

nicola altieri aka the mechanical man, from naples is the newest entry in the bosconi family. after contributing with one track on -the sweetest- series on bosconi extra virgin, he delivers here a rich eight tracker mini lp on, where casio sounds, yamaha fm synths and akai samplers are the main ingredients to give birth to his own compositions.
sounding like a constipated and forced minimalistic funky music created in a small bedroom environment, warm, dirty and slowed down like from an old tape cassette but full bodied, the release begins with the intimate and dark mood of sam and keeps going on with the mysterious vibes of march, the breakbeat rhythm of the broken gravity track and the smokey atmosphere of the downbeat sketch slap. more mechanical grooves on b side with the percussive mid tempo of attrazioni and more ethereal, intergalactic broken beats with amarcord, going back to obscurity with the soulful slow house jam of gess, while the dubby the new stein track close up the release with a touch of micro spacial spirituality. mechanical soul for you ears.

the third release for la freund recordings comes from amsterdam resident beraber. consisting of four strong and diverse tracks and a jazzy, piano-heavy remix by chicago house legend vincent floyd, sun ritual works just as well in the club as it does at home. after working on hiphop and downtempo electronica under different aliases, this ep sees baris akardere venturing into up-tempo territories, marking the debut of his beraber moniker. all tracks were written and produced during the last two years, combining digital instruments like the korg m1 and yamaha dx7 with analog gear like the roland juno-6 and korg ms-10. kicking things off on the a-side is title track sun ritual, a positive and warm tune with lush chords and arpeggiated synths. after a surprising outro, it gets the remix treatment by deep house pioneer vincent floyd, who adds multiple layers to it and delivers a stunning, dreamy eight-minute take on the original. the flipside opens with ugly, a soulful club workout with a deep bassline, rolling drums with crisp hi-hats and a hypnotic melody. next up is introspect, a serious electro-tinged cut with heavy juno chords building up tension as the track evolves. rounding it up nicely, forest rain treats us to an intimate broken-beat affair laced with rhodes chords and field recordings from bali.

the pieces were created as structured improvisations using a monophonic synth (primarily) along with a yamaha dx7 (borrowed from a friend) and possibly a guitar. recording was made on an older otari mx5050 1/2 8 track. mixing was done on a tascam m-50 console and a revox a77 1/4 machine. i recall the project happened in two bursts: i did half of it in september 85, then i finished up and edited the album together in december 85. i dont really recall making copies for anyone. i think i played it for a dozen people and that was it. just forgot about it. i remember jeff ament from pearl jam (green river back then) came by while i had it playing on my home stereo. he asked what it was and said he liked it. surprised me a little. with regard to overall aesthetic: i like the sound of machinery, but i enjoy the fragility of human error and human instinct. i like to put things into motion then climb aboard and drive. i can’t play an instrument (in the classical sense) for the life of me, so i’ve always just played things that are mostly choice rather than a convolution of style and technique. i guess you call that the brian eno school of rock.

tripmastaz - probably the only funky russian you will ever meet. the only russian artist with releases on cocoon, minus, desolat, cadenza. the only russian artist with 4 vinyl labels. hes funky housey remix is the most faithful of the four.
bpmf – schmer label head provides a grimey and noisey big bottom soviet style jam.
steve stoll - nyc acid legend made a hard banging acid tracer.
in 1996 serotonin label heads selway and szostek went to moscow to perform at the invitation of &#1055,&#1058,&#1070,&#1063, magazine. synapse performed at the -waterclub- and met the legendary dj compass vrubell. they went to his -studio- where he had perfected the art of making entire tracks out patterns on the yamaha dx-5. szostek brought a dat of these jams back to nyc and schmer-003 dj rx-5 -a taste for crap- was released as a small run white label in 97. the run sold out and disappeared to be forgotten forever... until 2016 szostek casually mentions its existence to techno uber-nerd nina kraviz who just had to have it for her -fabric 91- cd. so dj rx-5 was back from the ash heap of history and schmer got a new release from him on schmer07. then schmer got the word out far and wide that they d like a remix ep for two of the originals: compass provided stems because like a miracle he still had the patterns after 20 years. heeding the call were pointsman, tripmastaz, steve stoll and schmer s own bpmf. so this is what you get: -a taste for remix-. it will leave your lips wanting more, for sure!

do yourself a favour and dance across the floor when listening to the new jacob korn-record, aptly titled son of gx. the music is heavily based on the good old yamaha electone organ. the home organ for the world s gentlemen was modified by jacob himself and is now an integral part of his studio. as you ll hear it on the ep, it injects a decent dose of fun into jacob s vision of house music. at least, you will instantly notice that when listening to singlefinger chord, a track that conquers the floor with its disco elements. rumours say that jacob s cat toddled on his poor man s yamaha cs80 when producing cats on organs. if that s true, the cat provided an irresistible hook to an already slamming, italo-inspired track. son of gx is every bit as compelling as the first two tracks with its synth trumpet glory while the slighty darker fun blocks sustains us with heavy percussion works straight out of the yamaha electone organ. on top, you ll get a remix for singlefinger chord by new york s jacques renault (let s play house) as digital bonus.

elegant divide are peter oldroyd and samantha gare, based in london uk. formed in 2014 elegant divide combines the talents of classically trained vocalist samantha gare and electronic pop music pioneer peter oldroyd. peter is a well-known mix engineer and record producer, and best known for his 1980 s experimental synth pop band camera obscura. samantha, trained at the italia conti academy of theatre arts, has experienced chart success before and lends her distinctive voice to the project. elegant divide expresses the dichotomy of dark and light in electronic music with songs that explore lyrically the emotions of urban living. with the use of vintage synthesisers (moog prodidy / source, novation bass station, nord lead 2, paia fatman, polyfusion modular, yamaha dx7) and drum machines (roland tr-909 / tr-808 / tr-707 / tr-505, yamaha rx17) their sound is rich and analogue, and samantha s cool vocal delivery creates a mood that is simultaneously accessible pop and dark and haunting.

on ep5, legendary german musician burnt friedman makes his dekmantel records debut with ‘monsun’. the berlin based artist, who built a reputation for himself through his explorations into obscure, finely-tuned, experimental dub through his label nonplace, alongside his collaborative relationship with the late can drummer jaki liebezeit, is one of the crucial, sonic manipulators of our time. ‘monsun’ finds friedman crafting flowing, percussive, dub techno that is both esoteric, and progressive. befitting of a dekmantel release. alongside friedman sits legendary detroit act ectomorph, aka. bmg & erika, also making their dekmantel inauguration, with a record that surmises’ the group’s anologue, style of motor city beats

the 2nd release from i walked by night comes firing out of the southside of glasgow. a young man by the name of the burrell connection has been flying under the radar for a few years now... a perth native / glasgow immigrant has been making music since he was 15, his first release came via west end communications (003) in 2015. since then he has released most recently with craigie knowes on the amazing 2nd annual war child fundraiser along with legowelt, shanti celeste, neville watson and many more. southside was made with a juno 6, yamaha dx21, roland tr8, korg minilogue and twisting samples and recording most tracks in one take with little post editing. this ep oozes raw energy and shows off a delicate deft touch. after debuting at the warehouse project in 2016, the burrell connection will be producing his first live show in 2017.

first chapter of cassette beat tape series most blunted is a debut from warsaw-based producer and live performer bass jan other (privately an acclaimed visual artist, illustrator and graphic designer jan estrada-osmycki). stylistically, washed by waves varies from dub techno jams to syncopated, jazz-funk-oriented beats with lots of pads, space and random events. technically, the album consists of layers of sculpted synthetic sounds made using a teenage engineering op-1, a yamaha dx7 and digital production. produced in limited run of 100 purple cassettes with risography artwork designed by author himself. each item includes a free digital download code.

remixes by avalon emerson, lena willikens, kim ann foxman and borusiade ! &#923,,,&#941,,,&#957,,,&#945,,, &#928,,,&#955,,,&#940,,,&#964,,,&#969,,,&#957,,,&#959,,,&#962,,, (lena platonos) is a greek musician, pianist and music composer. her debut solo album, &#924,,,&#940,,,&#963,,,&#954,,,&#949,,,&#962,,, &#919,,,&#955,,,&#943,,,&#959,,,&#965,,, (sun masks) was produced in 1984 and reissued by dark entries in 2016. the album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the roland tr 808 drum machine and yamaha c60 synthesizer. lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal greek poetry. her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 1980s.

medical records in collaboration with our friends at crispy nuggets blog are happy to reissue a very obscure australian gem from the 1980s. ironing music were a three piece band from brisbane. they originally formed in 1984 as a result of their collective love for new order, human league and eventually jean michel jarre and cabaret voltaire. comprised of bass and electic guitar, yamaha dx-7, melodica and an 808, they recorded a 12- single as their sole outpt in 1985 in a limited run of 250 copies (obviously excruciatingly rare now!). it was recorded in their bedroom studio with at teac 4 track. the video clip for the -hit- shopping bag women was played on several national and local television music shows. they also recorded demos in hopes of landing a lp deal which unfortunately didn t attract any takers at the time. they actually only played 3 gigs and were forced to disband after one of their members fell ill in 1986. the lp presented here included the original 4 track single as well as hand picked demos which nicely congeal to form a well rounded lp documenting the band s brief existence. they can best be described as lo-fi synth pop with an emphasis on excellent pop songs and interesting synth/instrument arrangements. the first track shopping bag women is infectiously catchy and just screams to be worn out in the club. fans of early to mid 80s synth pop and new romantic will fall in love. the tracks have been lovingly remastered by martin bowes at the cage, london. features original reproduction of the front cover painting. presented in a limited edition on 180gram vinyl.
