2021 repress!!! x-ray records catalogue is as under the radar as it is rich and ahead of its time. releasing between 1992 and 1994, most of the label s outputs were produced by raymond castoldi. although people primarily know castoldi for being the music director and organist in madison square garden, he also has a lesser known chapter of his life. in the early 1990s, raymond released 6 eps on his imprint x-ray records. by coupling his musical education with a four-on-the-floor club pattern, castoldi managed to create a jazzy vibe with spaceous sounds and keyboard jams, all coalescing into a relaxing atmosphere that would eventually become the signature sound of 90 s deep house. in partnership with castoldi, kalahari oyster cult delivers the goods once again: 11 tracks from the x-ray catalogue over a 3lp for your deejaying pleasure.

berlin based arttu has been dropping his dusty fat beats across numerous techno labels including philpot, clone and 4lux for a few years but it was 2016�s track �hoodies� on arttu�s own imprint cyblo that caught the attention of accidental label boss matthew herbert (and which remains firmly in herbert�s record bag). arttu was invited onto the accidental jnr roster and has delivered a chunk of techno with so much swing it made donkey kong blush. arttu takes the most simple of jazz bass hooks and loops across a rigid kick, it�s when those hats kick in that the groove goes fucking wild. the presence of us native roberto q ingram on vocals brings a full detroit gangster flavour to the party. initially arttu and roberto had an idea to record a simple and sweaty track with roberto on the mic and arttu at the control of some dusty old machines. the result, �bass trakk� is exactly that: roberto dropping lyrics over a raw beat and a massive bassline. the ep is rounded off with a deep bit of techno �debris� with all the trappings of the darkest hour of a berlin winter in which it was recorded.

rich la bonte is a musician, writer and editor from upstate new york born in 1946. at age 11 he figured out how to record a piano backwards with his first tape deck and discovered monk, mingus and art blakey. in 1965 rich moved to ithaca, bought an electric guitar and started singing in garage rock band the huns. after the band dissolved, he moved to nyc and played bass and sang in the original cast production of the musical godspell. in the late 70s la bonte moved to hollywood with shari famous, released a a few 7� singles as dada2, and started flatdisk records, a vinyl subsidiary of dave gibson s moxie record company.

detroit s burden bros have long been looked upon with immense respect within contemporary dance music. having been in operation since 1990 with their 430 west imprint they have long encapsulated the forward thinking vibe of detroit techno with their output over the last 20+ years, gaining praise from their motor city peers as well as fans worldwide. having had success in the mainstream and an enduring underground presence they are well versed in the art of music. point blank , released on 430 west in 1996, feature some of the brothers deeper, more subdued, futuristic technoid grooves. not as driving as some of their other releases but retaining that burden groove for sure, forward thinking, intelligent techno from the d, 100%. 4 different versions of 2 tracks feature. each mix tweaking ever so slightly what came before. as usual, the dj s and the dancers are foremost in octave one s mind and this ep will be welcomed by both contingents, always classic, often imitated but never bettered! re-mastered, re-pressed and re-released in conjunction with the burden brothers / 430 west records, detroit usa.

this is the fifth release on eye teeth, the techno sublabel of interdimensional transmissions, by it compatriot alstadt echo. alstadt echo effortlessly blends the avant garde with industrial techno influences into his own deeply austere sound, with grainy textures contrasting perfectly against his broken beat structures. the influences are clear, he has even been honored by one - with multiple tunes included on regis the boys are here mix tape. alstadt echo also runs his own detroit imprint known as modern cathedrals, an ode to the concept of cathedrals of sound, the place where this music belongs.

the next set of the japanese musical tales on hhatri s imprint comes from takecha (aka takeshi fukushima), a producer who has played a part in creating some of the seminal pieces of house music that have originated from japan. his music is characterised by the perfect marriage of experimentation and emotional content. for those that know, takecha s first ep kind of deep released on his own imprint, gwm records, in 1995 is a secret gem among japanese house music collectors. only 100 copies were ever available and it is a subtle reminder of what and how deep house should sound like. takecha provides no less in a tale of shiga four gorgeous tracks that provide some insight into his own creative, albeit humble genius in his approach to producing music. fresh off the press are three previously unreleased tracks with the addition of freak out. released in 1998. tip!

a fistful of wax is an extension for some very special projects of our beloved deep house skylax records sub � label wax classic. a fistful of wax is back with its fourth volume! this offshoot originally began as an avenue for showing off some of the overflowing great talent we have floating about the wax classic sub-label, but with the growing reception of our previous three releases, it has developed itself into its own uniquely successful imprint. in a time when a lot of the hot records of the moment are made by highly distinguished producers with years of success under their belts, it is easy to forget how much good house music can come out of the underground by relatively fresh names. with afx4, we are only scratching the surface once again, yet we have 5 special tracks from a group of producers who, if not already, will stay on your radar for the foreseeable future.the a side features tracks from erman & abtomat (of série limitée records fame) and kid mark (head honcho of killax recordings). we start off deep with the aptly named how deep can you go , easily the most soothing of the bunch. fantasy 95 takes it up a notch for those who wish to, with classic 90s chords and accompanying bass and horns. over on the flip side, we hear won t get to heaven by californian newcomer, an expresso. being a self confessed new jersey style house addict, this hits in all the right places for those familiar with the sounds of nj legend george lockett jr, aka jerzzey boy. shin continues things with phara , a percussive stormer with one of the hardest hitting leads you will hear for a good while. this one is a sure fire hit! last, but by no means least is rosenhaft s voyager . fans of early uk garage, perk up your ears because this could have easily been a tune you would have heard on your favourite pirate radio station back in 97. if you are still on the fence about the record at this point, you are in the wrong place. this record has it all for lovers of the 90s house sound! whether you are of the deeper persuasion or the more garagey persuasion, the us or the uk side of things, there is something here for almost everyone on a fistful of wax 4.

jun kamoda has been a solid contributor to japan�s electronic music scene for quite some time. producing under his illreme moniker for over 15 years & also as member of hip hop trio baleine 3000. he is also a cartoon illustrator for japanese independent magazine �usca�.
2016 saw him release �the clay ep� (with *that* physical graffiti tune) on new york�s seminal imprint mister saturday night as well as a track for a dirt crew recordings compilation. having recently remixed clap! clap!�s �hope�, jun kamoda�s debut for black acre is set for release in june.
infectious licks and raw drums come together to form �blind disco�, an animated production that blends a cacophony of samples into a raucous party jam. �ramen funk� is a moodier cut by comparison, featuring a medley of percussive elements, vibrant guitar melodies and a seedy bassline, until �savanna on the palm� chops up and loops a wailing vocal sample before leading into echoing chords and a twisted groove in a mesmerising conclusion.
