those who preordered, do not have to do so again - we will contact you when we have stock! omar mccutcheon, operating under his batu alias, has been on the frontline of bristol’s innovative electronic music scene since 2013. in 2015 he founded his record label timedance, a platform for showcasing his tastes utilising a close knit group of young producers and djs. batus glistening broken techno productions are pushed through a deeply uk-sounding prism, one informed by batu being brought up on a diet of dubstep and uk dance music from a young age. trying to tie his sound to those genres however, would be a mistake. having been earmarked already by the guardian as an artist to watch for 2018, batus sound is very much his own. batus rebuilt ep marks his third release in just over a year. not one for complacency, his debut release via xl recordings shows batu pushing his sound forward in every way possible, creating his most uniquely slippery sounding tracks to date. i wanted to try and challenge myself a bit for this ep. every track represents a different phase of experimentation and also different tempos, i wanted to push my processes further than i ever have done.

recorded in philadelphia in 1969, the deirdre wilson tabac’s sole album is a beautiful blend of funk, jazz and soulful pop. possessing the complex grooves, thrilling breaks and ethereal weirdness that the rotary connection pedalled so brilliantly, the lp failed to connect with audiences upon its original release.
in the decades since, it has deservedly attracted a considerable cult following. however, almost inevitably, it has become increasingly tricky to pick up a copy in good condition for anything less than eye-watering sums. as such, we’re delighted to present the first officially licensed vinyl reissue of this undoubted masterpiece of freaky funk-rock, limited to just 500 copies.

a great compilation can open the gate to another world. who knew that some of the most exciting afro-funk records of all time were actually made in the small west african country of benin? once analog africa released the first african scream contest in 2008, the proof was there for all to hear, gut-busting yelps, lethally welldrilled horn sections and irresistibly insistent rhythms added up to a record that took you into its own space with the same electrifying sureness as any favourite blues or soul or funk or punk sampler you might care to mention.
ten years on, intrepid crate-digger samy ben redjeb unveils a new treasuretrove of vodoun-inspired afrobeat heavy funk crossover greatness. right from the laceratingly raw guitar fanfare which kicks off les sympathics’ pile-driving opener, it’s clear that african scream contest ii is going to be every bit as joyous a voyage of discovery as its predecessor. and just as you’re trying to get off the canvas after this one-punch knock out, an irresistible afro-ska romp with a more than subliminal echo of the batman theme puts you right back there. ignace de souza and the melody aces’ “asaw fofor- would’ve been a killer instrumental but once you’ve factored in the improbably-rich-to-the-point-of-being-nat-king-cole-influenced lead vocal, it’s a total revelation.

coming in strong with an update on another classic track, glitterbox recordings presents krystal davis so smooth featuring remixes from kon and yam who? alongside the original and an instrumental. one of the last in a rare breed of dedicated crate-diggers, kons vast knowledge of the heavily swung rhythms of classic disco make him a reverent remixer for this mid-tempo krystal davis disco hit, originally released in 1985 on new york label urban rock records inc. his version amps up the pace, tailoring the record for any discerning contemporary disco set. midnight riot records head yam who? goes blissed out with the synths for an irresistible mix that’s smoother than smooth.

lithuanian based label sodai started its journey in 2016, making it a label still in its infancy but making a big impression. owned by artist gardens of god, who started the label to create his own no limits platform for his experimental sounds and projects. while at the same time a platform to give other artists the chance to also have freedom with art and music. with releases from raxon, few nolder and alex krell under their belt, they can announce the exciting debut from uk producer third son this april. ive been an admirer of gardens of gods music for a long time, when he asked me if i could do something for his imprint, i was more than thrilled! adds joseph. syncopes synths spread far and wide, making this a journey of a track, modulating and panning in and out, pushing and pulling along a percussive drive. his broad musical range can be felt in this mix, with its slightly hypnotic tones. irony has a punctuated low end, which creates a deep and dark groove. the synthetic elements in this track gain in attitude, on top of ambient pads, leading nicely into bach to close out the release. its driving and determined bass makes the backbone of the track, with a modulating hook line, along building and expanding frequency ranges. the whole package makes for a very strong first release from third son, and sodai are excited to be welcoming him to the family.

it was vladimir ivkovic who introduced me to the world of rex ilusivii. a world where the spirit of a genius holds sway. i remember spending an entire night at vladimir s house in germany, listening to all those recovered pieces, and feeling like i had entered another space-time. mitar tragically left us, one november night in 1999 in brazil, leaving behind an extensive body of work consisting of more than 500 pieces, for the most part never released. being submerged in such a unique universe, so singular, brought me happiness. it also filled me with hope, because i tell myself that today there must be many other outstanding musicians who produce in the shadow of the traditional circuit, just for the pleasure of making music. listening to the music of mitar suboti&#263,, makes you part of his world. he did not stop producing from 1983 to 1999, in different styles, but with an instantly recognizable touch.his music also marries the evolution of recording techniques with new instruments that have appeared over this time, from the tr808 to the digital samplers. it took me more than two years to select the music for this record, as each time i listened to the material it revealed other details and other possibilities. i am extremely happy and honored to present this record to you, in which i try to do justice to the different, versatile- facets of suba.

returning with renewed force after henning baer’s unbreakable debut lp, manhigh’s sixth release comes from a name already well-known in techno circles. sciahri is the italian producer whose luminous 2014 debut on the celebrated ilian tape’s itx experimental series immediately announced his presence, followed by another on the label and two eps for the highly-rated black opal offshoot of opal tapes by 2016. he was simultaneously occupied with his ambient-leaning unknot duo with emanuele porcinai, better known as wsr on samuel kerridge’s contort label. 2017 saw the launch of his sublunar imprint and a tripartite release from him featuring a more streamlined sound than the craggy broken-beat style familiar from ilian tape. sciahri’s manhigh ep opens with ‘demur’, showcasing his most dour, industrial sounds, scraping metallic highs against the unrelenting impacts of reverberating kicks and subbass drone. ‘forbidden’ holds its forces more in reserve, the cycling, mechanical soundscape maintaining a spacious, ambient aspect, worked against a broken rhythm more implied than explicitly stated. returning to full intensity for ‘reliance’, he tightly coils the core elements around deftly-deployed percussion and a militaristic, pounding rhythm in the bass and kicks. henning baer’s reinterpretation of ‘demur’ saves little from the original apart from its overriding tension, instead adding a layer of nearly-tonal pads and an unremitting acidic bass throb pushing forwards inexorably.

it’s been more than 2 years since i did an original release on my own label. it’s been 9 months since i had an original noir release. i wanted some time without releases. some time to breathe, to think and most importantly time to be creative and to experiment. i have picked 2 productions i felt sounded different to everything else out here.

rickard jäverling, born and raised in borlange, sweden, and now living and working in stockholm is a wayward and productive musician. besides releasing material under his own name, jäverling is/has been part of constellations such as dodens dal, liljor and jäverling von euler. album 3, released on hoga nord rekords is his third solo album. album 3 breathes psychedelia, dub, swedish folk, progg and continental vintage electronic music. the songs on this album are in a way like a compilation of short stories rather than chapters in a novel. the common factor in this album is jäverlings exquisitely worked out melodies and the warm, round production but the songs can, due to the rich storytelling qualities of each one of them, almost be regarded as small albums of their own! the music made by richard jäverling is an embrace, a relative with a house by the swedish west coast or a day off, midweek in april. this album is inviting and calming but also as solid and mighty as a dalecarlian beech tree.

dj vas is primarily known as a member of pioneering 90s french house band, kojak. when the 1.0 french touch wave was blowing the world, kojak was one of the fourth most popular acts in france alongside daft punk, air or cassius. they built a strong reputation with more than 25 singles, 2 albums, 1 dj compilation and more than 30 remixes with amongst them the famous one for “deep inside” by mary j blidge. now more focused on his solo career, this talented dj, producer and beatmaker maintains a stylish wide musical vision, and manages to find the perfect balance between styles. for this specific project, dj vas practiced the very special game of soul-funk and disco edits. following the recent acclaimed release of his re-edits & more vol.1 (edr017), he’s now back on edr records with a second volume even hotter: 4 new tracks made for the dancefloor, finely cut and re-produced in complete new versions!! his production is a brilliant mix between fine techniques, deep respect of the originals and real personality. and with their new fixed tempo, these forgotten treasures should quickly find a new life close to modern productions. in short, dj vas music is contagious, warm and always sharp!!

mount liberation unlimited strikes back! after releases on tim sweeneys beats in space label and everyones favourite oddball house institution studio barnhus, the swedish duo, consisting of tom lagerman and niklas janzon, land on planet permanent vacation. body language is the fifth release for mlu and you can feel that they have been places and come some ways, since their debut ep in 2014: this ode to dancing sees lagerman and janzon heading into more pop-y territories than before. the swedish version is a full on pop disco track with rich instrumentation and infectious vocals that underline mlu’s status as one of the best disco and house live acts around these days. while the mouth mix is the swedish interpretation of chicago house and gets even more physical with its drum-heavy beats and computerized vocals. for your karaoke party and to round up the package, we also included the instrumental of the swedish version. rocka din kropp!

drum union is a new series documenting the different shades of leftfield house. london based tony nwachukwu (aka attica blues aka wah-chu-ku) provides a deep broken dub techno monster. manuel fischer presents a beat-driven disco-influenced track to make any dance-floor burn and mitsubishi galaxy, who are also known as jack pattern take us into a wavy trip to another dimension. look like rounds it up and is merging afro-cuban rhythms with modern electronica soundshapes. a journey wider and deeper than most of the average 4/4 business!

!! repress !! points new year, new concept: maceo plex locks down 2018 with a fabriclive mix and his new mutant series that sets out to explore the more mutated side of his signature cosmic techno further than ever before. similar to his conjure series in 2015, the new releases will reside across labels run by peers maceo respects and is inspired by, with some also featuring on his much loved ellum imprint. correspondant are proud to release the debut ep, mutant 1. three tracks deep, each version tells the same story from a different perspective, mutant disco tells it from the bassline’s point of view as a latent funk thumps with wry mischief, mutant dx shows things from melodic side with its rolling bulbous bass lead while mutant moog closes the ep by surging us even deeper into the stars with a crisp sinewy arpeggio that sucks us in and, like all card carrying mutants, refuses to let us go. time to mutate.

next up on baum is no other than mike schommer of deepchord fame who is back after a 15 year break, with a three track ep. his first release after his break was out on steve o sullivans mosaic records, and now his second one is released on baum records. mike s sound does not need any introduction, the music speaks for it self, but one thing to say, dub techno does not get any better than this!

following his debut “campello” lp deepbass returns with his second album “contact with the machine”. recorded in sessions of live jams with a more melodic approach than his previous works. a journey across uplifting, rhythmic, deep and atmospheric soundscapes but always powerful and always evolving.

out 2 is a project from jeremy campbell and r. zanzibar, who have previously worked together on albums for l.i.e.s. and lectric sands under different aliases. they sound right at home on emotional response, channeling the influence of 1980s new york dancefloor hybridization into six original tracks and their counterpart dub versions. its an impeccable tribute to the forefathers of new / no / minimal wave with the right kind of funk rubbed in the groove and ample space in the mix for all the live dubbing the style demands. moving is a surefire death disco party starter, dancing hovers in a beyond the grave island boogie reverie and some airs red there heads out into exotically enhanced territory without losing that nyc grit. it s a marvelous record, with the dub versions adding new dimensions to the music rather than simply repeating the same tricks sans vocals.

its a pleasure to get behind your friends from around world, in fact that’s the motive behind the breadth of the esp institute catalogue, but its truly a special feeling to represent your friends and your neighborhood at the same time. producers sonns (alexandre mouracade) and the mysterious venice beach native tavish graham are both long time friends of the esp institute family, we break bread, we take care of each other, and we cherish our collaborations more than anything, but we’re also neighbors. that said, esp is proud to announce a homegrown endeavor, the debut of sonns & tavish. the two have long been stewards of the los angeles underground, but after loads of early morning banter and the camaraderie that comes with this smoke’n’strobe life, they’ve now committed their singular vision to print—two epic cuts that make us proud. side a’s title track trycksaker is a thumper, a mid-tempo big-drum-laden beast that chugs the whole way through carrying an array of eerie bleeps and fleeting sighs. side b’s roguish days pulls together influences from various corners of the pair’s dj repertoire, gelling a wicked breakbeat with a wormy acid bassline and even more exotic sighs, something that might possibly grow into a signature of sorts. this release is ready just in time for the spring/summer exploits, and we couldn’t be more proud to finally enjoy hearing these heavy-hitters in the club. tip!

ryuji takeuchi provides instruments of discipline with an ep of noisy, hypnotic tracks, ranging from giddy, stomping, left-field techno to melancholic ambience, the ep’s title ‘one’s sentiment’ provides a thoughtful angle to this at times cacophonous collection, for while they are bristling with noise there is something contemplative about the pieces, expressed in a way that suggests more than one thought trying to take life at the same moment, ryuji finds space for conflicting voices both spatially and in terms of mood, the first three tracks, ‘ambivalence’, ‘sadness’ & ‘sorrow’ crawl with competing elements, synth lines drool over and meld with throbbing kick patterns, anxiety & excitement are tightly wound in focus as tracks build and develop, leaving the listener to navigate these abstract planes, intoxicated, while the final track ‘regret’ is a compelling piece of noisy, ambient minimalism that allows for an austere pause after the eruption of the initial works. it becomes evident that ryuji’s journey as a producer, through periods of hard-techno, deep-minimalism and the more abrasive ventures on huehelix, has created a powerful and nuanced voice that is fully on display in ‘one’s sentiment’.

as a polychrome composer, laurent perrier is developing his work through a large number of projects which, although they often share many common points, are all built on a strong identity. thus, zonk t has always been a way of exploring the most ambient fringes of dub, and the transition from the all-digital to compositions made entirely on modular synthesizers has overall not changed its approach in depth. yet, banburismus, whose unlikely title comes from the crypto-analytical process developed by alan turing during the second world war, begins by taking us by surprise with a long luminescent drone that seems to rise endlessly before dissolving little by little in a wall of echoes, glitches and distorted voices then make way to round and deep basses disturbed by metal peaks on which float distant blips, like farway echoes of the secret messages decoded by turing. real master stroke, this track occupying the first face of the lp is a trip in an ether much more populated than it seems. shorter, the three pieces of the b side participate in the same atmosphere, but still extend the sonic field. more stripped, more airy, more cosmic, banburismus achieves there new heights with ease. we could be tempted to play the game of references and try to put zonk t somewhere amongst the great experimenters of electronic dub. but who cares,, banburismus is well beyond categories, and laurent perrier, by cracking the code, opens for us the doors of a universe of disturbing and fascinating vastness.

with the celebrated return of dr. octagon (dan the automator, kool keith and dj qbert) in 2017 including their first-ever live performances fans are sure to keep gobbling up the space weirdness that first surfaced more than 20 years ago. get on down presents a unique picture disc, featuring the original octagon album artwork by the legendary artist pushead. the infamous doctor’s head and lower torso reach above and below the actual 45 rpm playing surface, as if trying to escape their two-dimensional status. on the a-side is a brand-new dr. octagon song, “octagon octagon,” which picks up where the original energy left off. it’s a dark and grooving glimpse into keith’s rubberband mind, jumping abstractly from line to line, chock full of equal partscharisma and dementia. on the flip is the song for which the group is most well-known, “blue flowers.” the version presented here is the amazing “prince paul’s so beautiful” remix, which first appeared on a mo wax 12” in the uk in late 1996. it was the first meeting of the two great production minds from different eras – dan the automator and prince paul would go on to collaborate many more times over the next decade, most notably as the group handsome boy modeling school. this is another great trophy for any self-respecting kool keith and dan the automator fan, combining the old and the new in triumphant fashion.

back in 1962 when this, their third album was released, the group consisted of smokey, ronnie white, pete moore and brother and sister bobby and claudette rogers. while he had yet to be featured in the billing by name that came in 1965 robinson’s photo was top and centre of the lp cover. the ten songs featured barely amounted to 27 minutes of music, but what i ll try something new may have lacked in quantity it more than made up for in quality. and the reason was clear. six of the ten songs stem from robinson s pen five solo efforts and the sixth, closing track this i swear, i promise , a co-write with janie bradford. let s savour an album that, as one perceptive critic put it, features the miracles at their early best... as young, eager kids just starting out, filled with optimism, youthful exuberance and enthusiasm, long before record-company politics, favouritism and restrictions changed the group forever.

three original tracks by french tyrant moteka who continues the exploration of his beloved dark techno territories. the first two tracks more hard hitting, where on the flip, title track zvezda is more spaced out and comes with a crispy electro rework by none other than dutch versatile heavyweight tripeo.

the next release on shaddock records is more than just dance tracks, 2 songs that come with full-blown vocals, a re-edition of classic latin freestyle by jorge ojeda ft. hilda mariee with an up-to-date cover version by mr. & mrs. jonson. the original version is a slammer coming straight from miami the capital of freestyle music. driven by hard electro beats and ojeda s signature, miami bass with latin hip hop/ freestyle dance grooves, -betrayal- when initially released on ojeda s destune records became a club and street phenomenon in miami. it would be one of the first of many productions between jorge ojeda and hilda mariee and their project teaz ii pleaz.

founded in 2018 by dj and producer deni-shain the man behind acclaimed compilations space echo and pop makossa, atangana records is the logical follow-up to more than 20 years of travels, constantly on the lookout for new artists and music around the world. as a tropicalist globetrotter in this new project deni-shain, in partnership with thomas vicente, co-owner of the french restaurant le verre vole, aims to dig, reproduce & transmit cross-cultural music, usually unreachable and/or less known by the public. the goal is simple: share the love of music and to rediscover the pleasure of voicings, percussions and sadly forgotten harmonies, whether you find yourself in a jam packed club or the intimacy of your home. atangana’s first releases will be looking at the caribbeans islands, especially into haiti with the reissue highly expected by various diggers of the acclaimed single divizion by singer fedia laguerre. originally released in 1981, this first 12inch comes with a remix by voilaaa and an instrumental cut exclusively based on the additional work by the french afro-collective.

as fabrice lig has contributed to the kanzleramt history – we are returning the favour and congratulate with this release to his 25th stage-anniversary! black stone is taken from universal tech ep of 2003 (ka089 12inch | digi). its powerful sequence was always considered as one of the best ever to be exposed on kanzleramt. so more than deserving and about damn time 3 new black stones emerge: polished into an epic set-starter or the jet-black time-lapsed grinding and compressing in the earth’s crust or raw acid washed. heiko leaves the choice to you.

another fierce and unique act from the depths of the glasgow underground appear on optimo music with their debut green door studios recorded four track ep. keyboard player jim mckinven was previously in altered images, worked for many years in martin rushent s genetic studios, was in one dove and previously appeared on optimo music as one half of organs of love. he is however but one component of this transgenerational band. they describe their music far better than we could - “seedy electronica, consisting of 2 basses, electronic drums, synths and dark vocals. inspired by the avant-garde that influenced the electronic music scene of the late 70’s and early 80’s.”

rather than rely on their usual full band, live performance, one-room live single recording session, the making of ‘dragonz’ was a departure for the apples. a multi-studio project spanning three continents, they assembled new instrumental tracks based on loops created in the studio and presented them to a wide-ranging selection of vocal collaborators to complete the picture with, and applied this method to the capturing of longstanding live favourites as well. the concept of a “vocal album” was implemented on non-vocalist songs as well, treating the omnipresent turntables’ sample work not as the central element to the band, but rather its frontman. though containing disparate influences, guests and production methods, ‘dragonz’ is undeniably apples, might be their most focused lp to date, and it is certainly their most middle-eastern. elements of the region’s indigenous genres have always been present in the band’s work, but never has their influence been as pronounced.

highlife throws a curveball for its next release with a piece of kwaito from south africas dj call me. a track sweeter than irn bru, we first stumbled across marry me on the radio by the new york dj, sadaf. after a quick search, we found it on youtube with over a million views, only to discover it had been track of the summer(s) back in south africa at the start of the decade. almost a searching for sugarman moment. the track wasn’t available to buy in any kind of format, and so began an elaborate quest to track down the artist via his defunct facebook page. after many an unanswered email and a couple of years persistence, we finally managed to track down a manager still in touch with dj call me, and we’re now involved in some regular whatsapp exchanges with the man himself. after showing it to a select group of dj pals, it began to show up on the id of music facebook group, courtesy of plays by the likes of axel boman, hunee & kornel kovacs. last summer, auntie flo and andrew played at a wedding in beirut and this track got such a massive reaction that weve been dying to share it with you ever since
