cosi002 further documents an emerging, ex-germanic theory of perth dance music, typified by tracks built on techno’s stern compositional logic, but poly-functional and cross-disciplinary, wearing the stripes given to them by this most nonpareil of electronic music ecosystems.
the ep has both dance floor heft and mood-focused flexes. “the hunt” is a solarised, laser-sharpened and hi-hat driven garage/big room hybrid. 8-minute “m is for audio” is a workhorse techno slow burner with all the red-eyed melancholy of greats like “acid eiffel” and “deep burnt”, acid burnt and stinging at the mid-range. conversely, “rube” abounds with percussive warmth and ear-dancing patterns, as does “freshness and convenience”, a bastard union of dusty breaks and a hard funk bassline. the ep ends with ambient cyber walkabout “freetown”, peripatetic, matte-toned and pulsing with vital signs.

* after almost 20 years of making tracks with blaringly loud kicks, you tend to start producing with the other elements first to give yourself a break from the constant pounding of monitors at point blank range. following an analog filter shopping spree, i began working on a group of tracks where the low end was satisfied by the filtering, and realized these songs worked just fine without a bass drum. therefore this record is called “rareforms” since most of my other work consists of a kick drum and lots of loud effects. this record is dedicated to the brilliant synthesist and interpreter isao tomita, whose records always provide inspiration in the lab. also to master storyteller rod serling and his frequent collaborator bernard hermann, whose score for the hitchcock film vertigo i adapted through some midi processes and wavetable synthesis, then sent it through a 4-foot spring reverb.* - phil moffa

sascha borchardt aka monoloc is a dystopic atmospheres fanatic that has dedicated his life to the dance floor from an early age. the frankfurt-born artist’s raw yet sleek take on techno and ambient has evolved to characterise his own musical style in his productions. monoloc’s sound is a mixture between techno, dub and ambient, nurturing a tone that is driving, groovy and low-slung, but with greater emotional range. he acquires most of his inspiration from old movies and likes to work mostly with field recordings in his productions. ‘the untold way’ on dystopian is his second album, following his first in 2012, and shows a notably matured development in the artist’s style.

crimes of the future is the kind of label you can trust, no matter who is at the controls. the same could be said for giallo disco, and certainly the two labels orbit a similar space for lurid soundtrack-inspired hardware jams from the italo age. vercetti technicolor is one half of the giallo team alongside antoni maiovvi, and here steps out with a perfectly bombastic range of compositions that revel in b-movie brilliance. -golden taurus- is the perfect slow-burner, those mono bass notes warming like no soft synth ever could, while -topaz fear- brings a more action-driven sequence into the mix. -death wish- too opts for a pumped up club scenario, while heinrich dressel smokes out -golden taurus- into a seedy slow-jam.

folie a deux is releasing their first vinyl ep on hamburg based home label tach & nacht! this stunning 4 track ep consists out of 2 original tracks and 2 strong remixes from andrea ljekaj and malbetrieb. the journey starts with “pulse”, a track full of ambient sounds and dark beats sounding like the night. continuing with“axon”, a deep story containing a wide range of emotions, which are expressed by complex and dark melodies. on the b side we come across andrea ljekaj’s “pulse remix” which takes you on an intense groove with wide strings representing sun rays breaking through pulse’s dark night. in the end maltrieb does the job by ending the journey with a perfectly balanced track. bringing the atmosphere back to a positive and chill vibe. each track is a different chapter of a story called pulse ep by folie a deux.

elocution, the third figure ep from portuguese producer lewis fautzi, again displays a high defree of versatility but still comes cleary cut for the club. employing a rich yet spacious sound design, fautzi creates cinematic scapes that are at once both brimming with the hums of colossal interstellar machinery yet at the same time leave enough room for a range of carefully sculpted elements to do their work. whether it be the twisted acid arpeggio on opener shizophrenia, the imposing drones underscoring the mighty mirror or the propulsive percussion of centerpiece 37b. testament to fautzis talent of engaging arrangement, never do the tracks here feel hurried nor do they become stagnant - but rather given just the right time to ripe into their full captivating potential. no matter if one is to approach this records as already an avid lover of lewis fautzis work or comes to it simply looking for fresh takes on the classic formula, this enthralling ep certainly will satisfy everyones needs.

a pivotal moment in 20th century politics, history and culture the november 22nd 1963 assassination of president john f. kennedy (in dallas, texas) produced a mountainous range of forgotten, discarded and ghostly vinyl artifacts. country songs, private-press lamentations, mournful poetry and violent political diatribes were rushed onto rough-hewn 45s and marginal lps that vied to be heard above the noise and confusion.

if anything, stojche’s take on detroit inspired techno rarely requires your permission for engagement. the fifth installment of his own label, tangible assets, is no different. this singular producer always manages to conjure up otherworldly atmospheres that resonate from head to feet. with that said, we could spend the next three paragraphs throwing around adjectives and splashing colorful words all over this press release regarding his sound, the aesthetic within each track in this release, and we could even volunteer a side helping of words that somehow make sense of this young producers studio ability. one thing however is for certain. tang005’s true charm lies in its ability to capture an honesty and sincerity that’s as captivating as it is transcendent. there’s a clinical yet organic approach that stojche adopts time and time again in formulating his tangible asset releases, and if anything, tang005 should provide further evidence of his depth, maturity and innate ability to create enchantment. this record is wrapped in captivating moments born from flourishing stabs, twilight synths, rolling charges of calculated manic rhythms and subatomic motions living within a range of intricately programmed beats. add to that a host of cinematic sweeps that develop into harmonic clouds of melancholy and you’re one step closer to the true romance etched within the grooves of this record. once again, stojche has created an ep that catalyses imagination. a series of intense voyages with thoughtfully considered moments and movements that have been executed by a man well in tune with his craft.

d3 elements continues to mine the fertile soil of midwest inspired house, techno and electro with this fantastic new album from michael dykehouse (sometimes found turning out experimental fare on planet mu and ghostly). here the grooves are immediate and engaging across nine tracks, from the bubbly -meltdown morning- to the spooked-out -clock division-, touching on a range of styles all bound together by a commitment to classic drum machine beats and synthesiser tones. this is far from a throwback record though, instead celebrating dykehouse s innate musicality through all manner of tempos and moods and coming out as a well-rounded long player in the process.

wolf dem is a live electronics duo from philadelphia, conceived in the fall of 2012 by two longtime djs who bonded over similar musical backgrounds and a mutual desire to explore the bleeding edges of electronic music. using drawing on a highly diverse range of influences, wolf dem grew from its original concept-what your dreams would sound like if you fell asleep in an old warehouse where someone had left a dancehall station playing on the radio- into a focused aesthetic, at once chaotic and hypnotic, sitting at the intersection of caribbean music, techno, noise, and field recordings. past releases include tracks for compilations on new low and great circles grcr-010, as well cassette releases for vague audio tapes and end result

after debuting their label with the return of headhunter, the trusik team returns with their second vinyl release from the ever-illusive ruffcut faculty member tremble. tremble has quietly made his presence known with reggae influenced tunes that are simultaneously roughly hewn, yet meticulous detailed in sound design. for trsk002, tremble gives us “too much terror”, which with all the daily attacks on civilians across the nations of the world, seems prescient. what starts out as sound system inspired roller slowly morphs into a technoid fusion of dread sub weight and dub techno chord flourishes. on the flipside, tremble simmers the tempo down to the 130ish range with “bwoy”. dancehall indebted sub detonations output cut vicious shapes while filtered rasta portents gradually build into a technoid climax. two killer sides for the concerning djs! for trsk002, trusik has incorporated artist ben ladieu’s immaculate pen and ink drawing into the overall aesthetic of the release. ladieu’s work is often dense, multi-layered and full of little hidden details that draw comparisons to 80’s diy punk flyers and zeke clough’s contributions to seminal dubstep label skull disco and woe to the septic heart.

here is a new member to the et family: utroid. behind this project goes the producer who was once known as funxiun and bs-1. the biggest difference between utroid and the former projects is that the music is less hectic as before. with utroid the music moves into a more minimal direction while keeping the raw beats and rough vibe. you could call this new beat 2.0 or acid beat…. what you get are dancefloor orientated tracks that range from rather distorted to trippy and spacey…

he s not what you d call a prolific producer but the old saying of quality over quantity couldnt ring truer for marcellis. with just 3 releases in the last 12 years starting with a single on 2004, followed by an ep on workshop and then his album on millions of moments, any new work is highly anticipated. its been a long time coming for nonplus but every bit worth the wait. 3 tracks covering a range of styles from the ice cold analogue quirkiness of sleep, to the bumping 4/4 offering of indigo skyfold through to the jazzed out chugger can they do tha (g love real raw) its an honour to have marcellis as an addition to the catalogue.

made of concrete release number 11 sees a joint effort from danny kotz and avi caspi in the form of an incursion into the deep end of spacious techno. reject unfolds steadily, as spatial loops intertwine with piercing zippy synths. the laid back melodic outline is aptly layered with sombre french vocals by laurie eve jasmine de larohe which giving the track a mysterious yet groovy appeal. starting off with a subdued bassline, canopy follows a slowly ascending groove, as progressive synths and wavy hooks further the track into deep tech territory. for the b side, myles sergé swiftly jumps in on the reject remix, stripping down its embellishing elements and shifting focus towards the bassline. what ensues is a compact backdrop where the bass and percussion take the lead, resulting in an intensely danceable reinterpretation of the original. stepping away from the murky ambiance present in previous tracks, karat boosts a slightly more vivacious range of harmonics. energetic synths set a peppy, 70sreminiscing mood, while the melody keeps the cut anchored into present day electronica.

following the release of his debut album as trevino earlier this year, marcus ‘intalex’ kaye marks his first notch on the hotflush bedpost with a plucky four-track ep, wearing all the stripes that an artist of his experience and versatility has earned. kaye’s four-to-the-floor productions as trevino have always possessed a latent sheen from the dynamic world of drum and bass where he first made his name. here it’s evident in the impeccably balanced mix of lead track, ‘slide away’, where forlorn melody is driven as much by bass as it is by liquid chords. the tempo is upped on ‘mosaic’ - a techno record that follows an uplifting path - and on desecrate it’s in fifth gear with a bass line that rolls and grows and bangs and rolls. the high-speed, echo chamber dub of ‘jungle love rounds off an ep of notable range.
