following up the scorching debut release another night, deep&disco recordings sidesteps the sophomore slump with elisco, an infectious electro-funk groover that both cements the labels commitment to quality and expands their musical range.
a chunky nu-disco track with hints of metro area and a catchy vocal hook, the seeds of elisco were planted in the early 2000s when label founder jkriv and lou teti were sharing a loft space in williamsburg, brooklyn. after an afternoon of cowbells and synths, the skeleton of the track had its shape, and their other roomates girlfriend was enlisted to sing the hook. she had no singing experience (or rhythmic sense) to speak of, but somehow it all worked and elisco was born! although its always been a personal favorite of the producer duo, the song remained shelved for almost 7 years until they dusted it off in early 2011 and readied it for release on the newly minted deep&disco recordings.
providing remixes for the vinyl release are the legendary leftside wobble, who turns in an extended and bpm-d-up version quite true to the original, taking the machine vibes to the next level with added loops and fx. brightons alphabet city brings the disco-boogie sensibility to the package with a deep mix that features jkriv on live bass, and whiskey disco regular sleazy mcqueen rounds it out with an indie dance stomper.

minimal wave is proud to present a full length lp by french mastermind philippe laurent. the lp is entitled hot-bip, a pseudonym laurent used throughout the 80s and 90s and also the title of his 1983 cassette on fraction studio. hot-bip features tracks recorded between 1979-1988, most of which have either remained unreleased or only previously appeared on scarce 80s experimental cassette compilations. laurents music can be described as spacey synthpop, containing much depth and range. it is edgy, political and pushes the limits, transforming his sound beyond one specific genre. hints of classical influences as well as electro influences can be heard. hot-bip showcases laurent’s best musical output from the 80s and includes some very avant-garde pieces from as early as 1979. a limited edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, this lp is pressed on 180 gram, translucent red vinyl and housed in a black and white matte printed heavyweight sleeve.

further to motor city drum ensembles dj kicks compilation, his exclusive single l.o.v.e. has been reworked by the young detroit prodigy kyle hall, the painter and music creator wolfgang voigt and an excellent remix by smallpeople. kyle has been highly influenced and captivated by the underground deep house sound of detroit. inspired by artists such as theo parrish, mike huckaby, rick wade, 3 chairs, kdj and omar s, who believe their music has a certain feeling of the advant garde and liberation from the so-called rules people place upon dance music. kyle took that principle of their music and applied it to music that he was trying to create. wolfgang voigt is known for his numerous, nearly inexhaustible list of one-off projects and aliases. of these, his best known is arguably >gas< a project that saw the marriage of ambient music and 4/4 techno. his remix of motor citys l.o.v.e shows his minimalistic approach to music he has been famed for worldwide. smallpeople are julius steinhoff & just von ahlefeld aka dionne. smallpeople are focused on a wider range of music and can be diverse- between deep house, detroit techno and some chicago flavours but always within the balance of atmospheric warmth and club suitability bringing yet another perfect addition to this remix package. watch out for more big tunes from smallpeople in the near future

there are few artists who manage to successfully develop a signature style that not separates them from the rest. aybee is one of those rare few that has managed to conquer a range of styles within his work from soul, techno, house and hip-hop under his many monikers. this time we see the us artist team up with miles sagnia for two cuts each on the eternal radiance ep on sagnias atmospheric existence imprint. taking over the a-side, aybee serves up >a glance< which oozes with classic us house charm. acoustic piano chords and are layered on top of a chugging bassline and electronic melody, tightly produced and melting in its warmth. >isis< gets heavier with a more underground vibe of crashing echoes and tinny drum arrangements. on the flip, sagnias >journey 2 forever< fuses multi-tracked choral chants, the impeccable sound of the hammond and a rapid techy groove. his visual foci reprise of >journey 2 forever< ditches the chants, instead opting for a sensual male vocal

favourites of everyone from sinden to mary anne hobbs, r1 ryders follow up the excellent full throttle ep with this newie from their self-titled label. mixing grime, tech and ukf perfectly, these tunes will slot into a huge range of dj boxes – the awesome >on your marks< especially, with its lazer-guided synth melodies, heavy wobble bass and funkified drums making it a real standout. the strings n bounce of >cyber< is similarly epic, while the itchy tech-funk of >pop shit off< is frankly begging to have the acapella from ludacris >whats your fantasy< plastered over it – such is the similarity between their bassy stabs and off-kilter rhythms.

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. after a longer break berliner frank mueller and london based ulrich schnauss have surfaced from their studio labyrinth to present the beroshima longplayer >polyphonication<. following a string of eps and remixes the fourth beroshima album was long overdue! it continues to explore the stylistic frame defined by the recent successful releases on cocoon, soma and mueller records and yet manages to surpass the expectations set by these skilfully crafted productions. beroshima defy genre boundaries and incorporate a wide range of sonic colours out of a studio filled with current and vintage equipment whilst also drawing from long term experience on the live and dj circuit. ten tracks that deliver state of the art dance music with more than just a touch of funk which never lose the spirit of exploration

next up on deep vibes comes sascha dive with his killer remixes of matthew dears >little people (black city)<. originally released on spectral sound (spc 101) as a digital-only package a vinyl edition had to follow due to public demand. for maximum sound quality the 20 minute version got shortened to a 15 minute >vinyl cut< (a1), while the >dub remix< comes in its original form on the flip-side (b1). sascha dive and matthew dear met on the road a few years back. in 2008 matthew dear featured a remix by the deep vibes boss on his watergate mix-compliation. when they played together in munich in august 2010 dear asked dive, if he wanted to do a remix for his upcoming album. the only condition dear asked him for was that it had to be the wildest and most crazy remix that dive could possibly do. little people (black city) is the probably strongest song of matthew dears recently released album black city. sascha dives remixes are on heavy rotation and played by a wide range of djs. make sure you get this joint in the box!

the three tracks for this release go through a wide range of our sound. >cyclone< by samuel dan and feygin is a throwback to the way dirtybird records sounded back in 2006, raw and fun with big drums. but >cyclone< sounds amazing compared to the sound quality of some of those old records we all love, a definite update to the old db vibe. b-jus >babbel net< is his follow-up appearance to last years bomb track >my sneakers< that all of us played 1000 times. this is more in the smooth 808 style of dirtybird while still giving you some punch and melody. this record works really well for me and this groove crossover into a house set no problem. last but not least is maelstroms >you play<. this is a real monster, not so much for the house heads but instead for those of you who like to cross genres and explore the bass regions during your sets. definitely not your friendly deep house record this one is a real db banger in the tradition of big dirty bass we love here in san francisco.

northern structures (troels baunbæk-knudsen and lasse buhl) are a copenhagen based techno duo. troels has been making all kinds of electronic music since the age of 14 but focused mainly on a long international drum’nbass carreer under the excentric pyro moniker. lasse is a longtime dj and has been developing his own productions, with a background in soundscapes and organised noise. both share a love for the harder and deeper sounds of techno not often found in copenhagen, taking in a wide range of influences from the early uk industrial and dub tinged berlin sound to jazz, experimental electronica and rock. the ambition is to create a marriage of industrial and organic textures by avoiding strict rules of programming and aiming for more of a jam based musical playground feel.
