minimal wave is proud to present a full length lp by french mastermind philippe laurent. the lp is entitled hot-bip, a pseudonym laurent used throughout the 80s and 90s and also the title of his 1983 cassette on fraction studio. hot-bip features tracks recorded between 1979-1988, most of which have either remained unreleased or only previously appeared on scarce 80s experimental cassette compilations. laurents music can be described as spacey synthpop, containing much depth and range. it is edgy, political and pushes the limits, transforming his sound beyond one specific genre. hints of classical influences as well as electro influences can be heard. hot-bip showcases laurent’s best musical output from the 80s and includes some very avant-garde pieces from as early as 1979. a limited edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, this lp is pressed on 180 gram, translucent red vinyl and housed in a black and white matte printed heavyweight sleeve.

olivier kolly aka oktet is back for this 3rd techno home-made release by gravitation crew! the first track is a timeless acid bomb that resounds like the ideal soundtrack of an interplanetary space travel. with his reinterpretation, dmt and knotweed label boss philippe petit continues the space exploration, the planet toward which we’re heading seems more strange and intriguing. 2nd track is as an epic adventure to the borders of real and imaginary. newrhythmic label boss joton gives an hypnotic remix where sirens and tribal rhythms are mixed up. time to take off !

philippe cohen solal (of gotan project) celebrates the 50th anniversary of summer of love, covering one of its anthems “aquarius / let the sunshine in” of hair the musical which premiered on stage in october 1967. a complex but soothing modern reggae moombathon riddim carried by the ethereal harmonies of legendary jamaican reggae singer horace andy (massive attack, skylarking, ain’t no sunshine...) with a delivering coda sung by an empowering choir.
¡ya basta! records asked two legends of the underground scene, somewhat connected to the spirituality of the song, to remix this take. first with an afro house / deep-house take of the master of the genre @boddhi-satva, and jack of all trades, mashup virtuoso @jstar-1 (remixer of major lazer / dj vadim...) for a retro catchy drum n bass/uk bass remix. finally lazy flow and face-t deliver a dancehall filler of a remix.

dmt 013 is philippe petit s first and only techno attack for 2017. the record starts with lose yourself (part i) , an atmospheric track with a groovy rhythmic pattern that builds into a menacing acid trip. it continues with one life , using some very clear dubby pads, snare and toms, its underlying baseline bringing a happy feeling to the e.p. lose yourself (part ii) is aggressive and hypnotic at the same time, its intricate structure leading the listener to a state of trance. the record ends with distant memories , a prime time techno cut with several layers of synths to cover all sound frequencies to devastating effect.

peripheral minimal is proud to present the new 12inch by the french electronic pioneer, philippe laurent, entitled, phoenix. this will be philippes second release on peripheral minimal after the infectious synthetic classic 12inch, mithra. phoenix is a three track ep featuring two brand new tracks on the a-side, phoenix (featuring philippe s trademark robotic vocals), and, agapao. meanwhile over on the b-side, we have the 13-minute electronic opus and highly representative of his early work, exposition 4, a never before released track from philippes extensive archive, and recorded in 1982. the e.p. is representative of philippe s latest forays into contemporary synth music, but still with a retro futurist edge and influenced partly by german pioneers kraftwerk/late 70s kosmische and au courant electro/synthwave acts, fitting into the current enthusiasm for early 80s synth pop and minimal wave. the ep is presented on white vinyl and limited to 300 copies. mastering by martin bowes @ the cage.

with its tenth dmt release, philippe petit drops energovill, a big room techno bomb driven by a repetitive synth pad and a dreamy distorted saxophone line that will leave nobody indifferent. philippe then strips down the track even more to deliver a dub oriented, beat-heavy version of the track. on the other side, ubx127, from the figure stable, is on remix duties: he takes the key elements from philippe s versions and turns the title track into an unforgiving minimal techno attack. philippe closes the ep and reworks energovill once again, this time into a melodic, atmospheric and dreamy beatless version.

the state of the world e.p. brings you 4 new tracks by philippe petit. appearing develops a positive tone through layers of heavy bass and a deep 808 kick that finally blooms into a warm synth line. expanding exults happiness thanks to its multiple layered bleepiness, aiming to put the listener in a state of trance. shrinking is a hard hitting percussive affair, whose relentless beats, driving hi-hats patterns and claps take you into what can be seen as a neverending downward spiral. disappearing rings the alarm with a 132 bpm fury of pads and subtle acid, but it might already be too late... support from rodhad, len faki, johannes volk, boris, samuli kemppi, i/y and many more..
