itokim, aka tendo-based producer takuro ito, aligns with dj bone s subject detroit label with the subject japan: rhythm poems ep and his opening gambit certainly leaves a dent. -motechnique- has been a staple of bone s 3 deck attacks in recent months and it will have eyebrows raised and mouths open from the off. weighty but warm kicks start as they mean to go on, bursting with pace and vigour as thrusts and stabs pinprick the brooding chords. the laidback, easy-going connotations of the title to -roll up and shine- are very much the ethos and aesthetic of the production, as a playful, bubbling melody sets a warm and almost sugary tone from the off before being bolstered by a suave melange of full-bodied kick and dexterous percussion. itokim rounds off his first outing on subject detroit with -the mood device-, a to the point groover that melds elements of the previous productions to stunning effect. a genuine builder of a track with a straight and true trajectory, -the mood device- melds innumerable coatings of percussion and synth as stabs are layered and layered again, clotting and coagulating the composition in to one delightfully deep and multidimensional slice of formidable dancefloor composite.

at its very first start, the new label founded by conrad van orton proposes a vinyl of his own with two original tracks on the a side, november and captivity archives. and two great remixers such as vsk and the mysterious annuled user on the other. just as the needle starts to mark the passage, the classic four quarters give life to a beat that between one step and another compresses catapulting reality in a classic industrial scenario of mid-autumn where the clear sky gets marked by black and deep plots. a background noise accompanies the whole programming part of the drumming that gives off a relentless pace. on the a side captivity archives reconfirms the industrial nature of cvo with a look towards distant galaxies ..... with the needle still hot we turn around the record to the b side. here we find the vsk remix with a more ambient and crystal clear sound. to the original drum, vsk, choose an equally technical percussion. all home made. last but not least the contribution given by annulled user. trademark? techno! .. and there is nothing here to mess about with. 4/4 dry, hard which feel anger and rebellion desire. the kick, fairly present, is ripped apart by some demonic filters. the 5.30 min of annulled user are a reminiscence of the 90s.

nelistening back, ‘interlude’ will feel like the perfect opening to ‘skylax’. a jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with jason’s signature flourishes all over it. aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. speaking of, ‘the love’ will have you gripped from the first bar. it glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of jason’s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. ‘old dayz’ touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. the spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped latin sample-led beat. from there, ‘rawkicks 2’ shows jason’s rough and ready sampling style in action. a seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. ‘cut b’ contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. that said, it still has the classic jg atmosphere we love. closing out the first half of the album, ‘definition’ slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track’s momentum into something very mellow and deep.bringing in the second half of ‘skylax’, ‘john blue’ takes things back a notch further. a deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from jason. ‘last night’ is a track more reminiscent of jason’s first lost cuts ep on wax classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. the last four tracks of the album see a return to the ‘mastercuts’ and ‘lovedits’ series which fans will recognize from the ‘lost cuts’ records, with ‘lovedits 7’ and ‘mastercut 5’ respectively. the former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature jg touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. ‘bb’ brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.all in all, this is the perfect follow up to jason’s debut album ‘313.4.ever’, with tracks for both the club and home listening. if you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don’t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with ‘skylax’ on cd!so, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and djs out there

nice price deal !!! xenogears is the name of the first studio project of marieu and lucretio, also known as the analogue cops. with this moniker they released a bunch of seminal techno cuts on the first chapters of their restoration imprint, back in 2007. tracks which were played by legends as anthony shakir, claude young and the suburban knight. now the xenogears are back with their first album *lost artemis*, showcasing their distinctive fast, detroit-inspired hardware techno. the album features a collaboration with their usual collaborator nomadronin (with whom they run the label bratha) and with the talented producer known as objekt. all the tracks are characterized by a strong fascination for hi-tech synthesizers and rusted vintage gears, a fast pace, and a minimal approach to live mixing. they have explored the subterranean territories between post-atomic noises and apocalyptic breakbeats, finding a way to equate machines with funkiness in an open battlefield.

the cronenberg referencing crimes of the future label from messrs. fairplay and fraser gathers further pace on their second release, looking across the atlantic and focussing on the enigmatic works of elizabeth merrick jefferson. from her detroit base, jefferson has one previous release to call on in the shape of the urban off road 12 inch for the argot label. the promise demonstrated there is explored further within the context of this four track quetzalcoatl 12 inch for cotf, expounding colourful take on detroit house filled with rich star gazing qualities that would attract the attention of timothy and scott.

someone sound the funk alarm … bumper, the netherlands-based duo of geoffrey t and mr pauli, live and breathe sizzling, floor-busting electro-funk with one ear cocked to the classic sound and the other raised towards some sci-fi future. “get into position” proclaims the goal here: get all those people on the dance floor, ready to move! jimmy edgar kicks things off with a deep techno remix full of swirling synths and an infectious bassline, then londons tad wily does a funky 4 on the floor remix. the flip features 3 original funk grooves of varying tempo. *get into position* stakes its claim on frenzied body motion. *s.o.s.* provides a deeper excursion into the boogie zone. *ten four* then pops along at an erotic city-esque pace. sweet!

the manuccis mistress label gathers pace, looking to nottingham for their fourth release in the shape of the lost sessions ep by cassio kohl. apparently moved to sign up kohl for a release of the back of a mere 15 seconds of first hearing the producers debut ep for amadeus records, the three tracks here fully justify such snap decision making from the manuccis mistress big cheeses. kohls sound is a classic take on the deep house template, showing both a talent for raw emotion and clinical production as well the sort of hooky vocal samples and epic lead synths that immediately grab your attention.

first up sees the new methodology track in full on dance floor assault mode - serious break-fuelled techno with rolling drums, off beat funk elements and big stabbing chords moving in and out of fx laden atmospheres at a fairly furious pace. the b side introduces yet another incredibly talented producer from the iridite stable - mike singleton is a regular dj at glasgow s internationally famous monox club as well as being one of the chief tech-heads and all round music know-it-alls at rubadub records. his track here will appeal to anyone who likes to be genuinely shaken up by a track - it s got the lot - cutting edge production techniques, heartfelt melody, intricate and complicated programming, bassline turning and twisting almost inside out, fantastic fx, but most of all >the funk<! methodology round things up with another mutant house/techno hybrid track - all shuffly percussion, filtered samples and a mournful, string laden climax, layered with weird bleep-ing riffs and super-sub bass

part 2 concludes killawatts largest body of music to date, the opposing rhetoric ep, a 6 track opus of truly progressive uk underground sound that melds his influences from dubstep and techno with expansive, high-tension sound design. the eps second triplet of beats feature his most overtly techno-focussed sounds yet, expanding his horizons and dropping the pace down to 125bpm, and delivers punishing dancefloor rigidity and bass-immersed sonic force. on black air, killawatt threads tightly coiled syncopations above a grinding 4×4 structure, and delivers a near-cacophonic but ultimately heavy full-sensory overload. the flipside is divided between the churning swell of dark industrial aesthetics on art of discourse, and the moody permutations of reactive technique, where rippling melodic shimmers provide accentuation to its pounding sub-density.

otp lands a nice package starring a handful of talent. headlining the bunch is the mysterious room 303 with you dont know me, a solid tail of bittersweet melodies and heartfelt vocals that wouldnt be out of place during strip club after-hours. a2 sees canadian sean roman (whos known for his releases on hot creations, under the shade, strictly rhythm and many more) deliver a joint effort with buddy dick diamonds. together they off us dawn crondlemyers, a bassline driven house track with sprinkled vocals, and a funky synth part snaking around with extreme portamento. the entire b-side dedicates itself to germanys tuff city kids, the alter ego of running backs gerd janson and phillip laur. they nail two solid mixes of room 303s you dont know me, coming up with a change of pace and pushing things into piano and acid house territory...driving and pulsing

the british columbia based label silent season properly issue pacifica, the fourth studio lp from compatriot jordan sauer ka segue - an album that seems destined to become this year s voices from the lake. released originally in a highly limited cdr pressing earlier this year, pacifica now arrives in a deluxe 2lp format that really does the vivid cover art justice! adopting a pace that is immediately soothing, pacificas nine tracks are made all the more welcoming by the rich sense of melody that floats throughout, ensuring that the album has a sense of consistency that rewards the senses many times over.

opener getting run down loops up a nagging hip hop sample over skittering dukey beats and washes drifting pads and spacey keys over the top for a hypnotic late night groover. reach out goes at a calmer pace, but revolves around intense builds, insistent polyrhythms and detroity riffs for a bit of hypnagogic drama. on memix duties, om unit does what you hope hes going to do, injecting reach out with seemingly infinite swathes of space and bottom end, looping about at his own pace, but with that constant sense of om unit purpose. nphonix closes out proceedings with a tweaky, rubbery acid style workout that will find friends in bass and house camps.

canadian artist paolo rocco makes his debut on saved with people say. from the top there is a unique seductive pad that pans creatively over the cut back percussion. the bass line enters early on and stands out with its original pattern and alternating frequencies, working well with the crisp clap that programmes itself in and out. the vocals are what makes the track. they are catchy just like the bass line, and are processed effectively, maintaining a nice, fresh groove.
over on the flip side is a remix from label boss nic fanciulli that utilises the original parts effectively and maintains an energetic pace with smart programming. both mixes have been creating a real buzz across scene.
