celebrating osiris’ 50th release in two parts, label head simon shreeve unveils ‘deep summer’ as the first: a downtempo, vocal-led track with a pace and laid-back vibe not usually associated with his mønic alias. on the b side, a remix from none other than burial offers a distinctly smokier take on the track, full of percussive melodies that weave into surprisingly major-chord territory towards the end of the song’s ten minutes. this is a release that sees both artists pushing their respective music’s preconceptions.

imagine apollo 13 mission commanded by mika vainio and erp and you might get an idea of the intergalactic atmospherics crawling from the new phi chapter. slovenian minimalism afficionado evano returns to phi with an icy pulse that starts the electro romanticism on the first track and soon turns to hypnotic four to the floor pace. atonal minimalism intensifies with the last two tracks but manages to make the vacuum of music space sound incredibly human.

weÆre now halfway through the treisar series and moscoman shows no sign of slowing down. next up is donkey jumps ahead. the sixth chapter kicks off with big jack arbon, an unambiguous summer anthem tied up by digital steel drums and pitched chants. on the flip, things forgot to be this way calls for the never-ending daze of the afterhours with disco infused melodies and distant vocals floating atop doped down beats. closing track unheard melody sets a different pace. wistful mediterranean guitars pick unhurried melodies while delays cloud the track in just the right amount of sleaze.

frits wentink s bobby donny label returns with a new ep from icelandic producer felix leifur. it s not often someone other than the boss releases on this label so you know this new one is quality indeed. leifurwho also works as david & hjalti and davíð sveinn bjarnason has two solid eps to his name on dirt crew. they show him to be a producer of succulent deep house and atmospheric prone beats. across four cuts here he offers jazzy vibes, organic percussive patterns and authentic styles filled with warmth and soul. opener unidentified blues is a loose jumbled of hi hats and cymbals, rhodes chords and shuffling drums that could well come from the studio of a certain moodymann. they are alive and enriched with real feeling from start to finish. hampton is another tender fusion of deep kick drums, tape echo and curious melodies all tied together by jostling groove that is beautifully incidental and unhurried. contact then brings more proper jazz drums to the table, with distant sax sounds and closely miced hits and spaces of cymbal all feeling loose and free as they suck you into their world. last of all, universal rim picks up the pace with a more rooted house groove, freeform percussion and wooden hits and trilling, echo drenched melodies all making for an intoxicating cut

creme organization returns in july with four searing electro cuts from dutchman ekman. mixing up west coast electro with tougher, more textured techno styles in recent releases for berceuse heroique and bedouin record, this artist is as much about the past as the future and proves that across this new and impressive set of tracks. doomsday argument is not as dark as you would expect form the name: its a lithe and slippery electro affair with crisp snares and gurgling bass all topped off by a freaky top line. the great filter mixes up distorted bass with rippling glass synths and sounds both spooky and cosmic, then post singularity day picks up the pace with a quick and urgent drexcyian style that is restless, dynamic and busy. last of all antifragile is a wild acid workout with rocking beats and ripping 303s that twitch every nerve in your body.

london star alexis raphael returns to hot creations with the dance floor killer it’s kinda jazzy, with fine french exports dan ghenacia and chris carrier teaming up to deliver the remix with electrifying results. title track it’s kinda jazzy is an ultimate peak time weapon. alexis explains how its a real melting pot of different musical influences that have inspired me over the years. there s everything from hip-hop to 90 s uk house and garage, jungle/drum and bass, upfront house and techno and, of course, jazz. on the flip dan ghenacia and chris carrier deliver a solid remix that keeps the pace, changing gear through trippy turns. last up, second original track strip off lays down the swing with sultry vocal slices. an influential player on the london scene, alexis raphael earned his stripes across the pirate radio stations of north and east london during the late 90s and early 00s and went on to hold residencies at legendary london clubs the cross and bagley’s. his first release spaceship was picked up by hot creations sub-label hot waves in 2011. since then, he’s had numerous releases and remixes on labels including jackathon jams, of unsound mind, avotre and get physical and not forgetting his anthem, i know. dan ghenacia is the undisputed kingpin of the paris underground scene, having founded and ran freak n’chic for seven years and now one of the three creative minds behind new label and b2b2b dj outfit apollonia. chris carrier is another heavy-weight from the french underground scene. together they have delivered some recent killer ep’s on appolonia, music for freaks and adult only.

after nearly a 17 month layoff the corner returns with 2 killer releases cor-16 brings you new artists to the label, dar embarks out of chicago which is dan jugel one half of juzer and ken zawacki one half of circling vultures bring a taste of chicago techno with relentless jacking beats firing off at a fast pace with a lot of movement ever changing and modulating tones these tracks are built to move asses. pressed onto 180 grams vinyl and a limited run.

after releases on wolfskuil and stockholm ltd. border one is set to make the first release on the new born belgian imprint “form and function”. this 4 track ep marks a new momentum in his young career. his ‘despair ep sets the pace for the new brussels based imprint that’s surfing on a wave of young talents and initiatives coming out of the country’s capital city.

fouk are finally back on heist after their great ‘kill frenzy’ ep in 2014 and have taken mount liberation unlimited along for a remix. we’ve been waiting patiently for new material, challenging the guys to take the signature ‘fouk’ sound to the next level. fouk’s brilliance has been obvious on recent work for their own label outplay and razor ‘n tape, as well as their respective solo projects. we’ve kept a close connection, teaming up whenever possible for heist showcases, with highlights in amsterdam’s “claire” and paris’ “concrete-. seeing their work and enthusiasm made it abundantly clear that it would only be a matter of time before they’d show us what the next step would look -or better yet- sound like. anticipation ran high but boy, do fouk deliver. the excellent ‘with lasers’ ep still very much portrays their own style of loose, live percussion and many layers of funk, but they’ve expanded their vision and even toughened up a bit. their new taste for grit and an interest in the heavier side of funk is probably most evident on the opener ‘f3000&#8242,,,,,, where a thunderous arpeggio is supported by distorted drums and lush cosmic synth stabs. title track ‘with lasers’ is more of a classic fouk track, combining a lovely walking disco bassline and their signature drum programming with… erm… lasers. lots of them. the b side ‘see you on the other side’ sets a different pace, carefully blending guitar licks, rhodesy chords and vocal chops into a lovely groove that feels just as carefree and improvised as it feels exciting. swedish synth nerds “mount liberation unlimited” ran with it and transformed it into a dreamy -pepe bradock goes balearic- track where airy echoed guitars take turns with some equally dreamy and evocative pads.

brightons boutique house label black key recordskicks off 2017 with a fantastic ep from label newcomer cinthie. cinthie is a well established force in berlin: as well as being a resident at key spots ipse and humboldthain club-where she spins heady vinyl only sets-she runs three much loved labels and collectives in beste modus, unison wax and beste freunde. as such, she is a true leader of the underground house scene who also runs a studio complex in berlin, and so is very much at the heart of the house conversation. kicking things off is the excellent house rhythms , a rugged, bass driven, deep house cut with flabby drums and snares and icy hi hats all sounding informed by classic deep house greats like ron trent. warm, soul infused pads emanate from the core and the whole unhurried affair really sucks you in with its cosy and romantic atmosphere. the second splendid offering is liberty, a much rawerand direct cut designed for peak time sets. again it is riddled with jazzy chords that have real soul, but the drums are exposed and banging and the whole thing barrels along at a sweat inducing pace. this is a typically classy offering from both artist and label that kicks off 2017 in real style.

having originally surfaced on dj deep s deeply rooted house label back in 2011, the appropriately named bleak brings his stern ekko track back into focus on his own naura label, inviting two titans of contemporary techno to do the remix business on the track. first up is skudge, who get things marching at an urgent pace with their usual knack for ear snagging sonic hooks and unrelenting kick drums. meanwhile markus suckut makes a more weighty interpretation of the track, slowing the tempo and adding all kinds of sub pressure to make for a truly killer workout. as a bonus, the original track is present on the b-side in all its mean-tempered glory.

next up on hell yeah is -the most balearic record i have ever released- according to label boss & it comes from japan s disco don max essa which features a four part track, themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely, on one side of vinyl, and two more on the flip. essa was born matthew bruce and the uk artist has now been releasing his blissed out beats on labels like feel music, electric minds, bear funk and is it balearic? recording for a decade. a prolific producer whose big hits like panorama suite/uptown vibration (is it balearic?) from 2010 have long been in the hell yeah boss s record bag, essa first approached the label with a bunch of tracks. a good correspondence alchemy ensued and together the artist and label decided to put out the most timeless 12inch possible. the exquisitely ambitious themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely is almost 12 minutes of serene ambient synth work that is like a soundtrack to a hot summer s day. heavenly chords sound just like a breathy female vocal and as they come and go, one finger piano tinkles add real emotional beauty and gentle twinkles shimmer in the distance. half way through lazy drums propel things along at a loveably lethargic pace and immediately place you on the beach. on the flip, saguaro is just as organic and beautiful, but has tumbling drums, wooden hits and soft claps as well as essa s magical synth work all bathing your soul in warm rays. b2 buran chime is perfectly horizontal and expansive, with tinkling triangles, angelic chords and scattered hits and harpsichord sounds all radiating effusively. this is timeless music that will calm busy minds now and forever.

wake up! 009 catches steevio in a lonesome mood. over three tracks the freerotation co-founder cruises through weightless negative space, sketching out contours against a backdrop of deep shadows and warm, melancholic pads. * machlud* opens like a mission statement, sorrowful and barely-there, before moving to the more nervous lounging of * forgotten futures.* on the b-side * green therapy* picks up the pace, bouncing with a lightly kinetic swing. luis remix wrings some raw pathos from the originals immaculate depths. yet it remains of a piece with the source material, rounding out an ep of heady, ephemeral moments.

engineered to enhance a subtle minimal with a steep musical print, french label sonath will disclose its first ep in june 2017. faced to his emotions, the auditor is deeply immersed in a story related at the groove’s pace. each side is a powerful and transient moment, an effort to provide a link between depth of a club’s atmosphere and a track designed as a movie storyline’s intellectual-preaching.

as owner and curator of the exotic dance records label , j. albert has released a steady handful of projects on his brooklyn based imprint , as well as showcasing new music from deejay xanax and person of interest . add to that, recent releases on the 1080p label and black opal, and j. albert is fast making a mark on the scene for his raw and undiluted deep fusion of house, techno and jazzy vibes. his debut ep for hypercolour opens up with dont hide it a bumpin and jazzy flavoured house cut, resplendent with rolling snare drums and warm stabs, a sampled double bass riff and choppy vocal refrains xtra sauce is another stellar house track, fans of the ron trent/prescription chicago sound will instantly find an affection here with the rolling drums and soft keys, all pushed along at an energetic pace, whilst vista finds j. albert in more playful mode, carving out a 10 minute jackin underground house vibe that cuts raw and hypnotising.

picking up right where ep 1 left off, ep 2 kicks things off with a bang. first up is catz n dogz and yotam avnis for blakkat a high pace burner ideally suited for dance floors from panorama bar to under the leds of watergate and every club in-between. the duo return with the bright version of afterglow for the second cut on ep 2 and aptly titled, it pushes an intense, glitter filled ride to its limits. embarking onto the b-side, o.a. peas from heavy hitter eats everything & lord leopard take a trip down memory lane with a heavily sample based feel good tune that will absolutely demolish dance floors worldwide. rounding out the ep is a final collaboration between catz n dogz and reno wurzbacher with ma people and its by far the smoothest and most laid back tune of the bundle, but never does it let you rest as a mesmerizing groove and lush atmospherics tell a deep, complex tale of late nights and early mornings.

london artist reframe delivers the debut release of process artefacts with the “bahama ice cream ep”. spiriting away into a carefree place and time of the night, “bahama ice cream” jets into the rave with floating melodies, sparkling like firework. “hold that thought” takes a step back to then launch forward at an even higher pace, intensifying the mood of the ep with dark jolts of bass and percussion. the blithe mood of “will we get closer than this?” is a blissful declaration of love. where dance floor strangers, bound together by the spell of a long and inspiring night, find each other without exchanging words.
the idea behind process artefacts, as the name suggests, is that the outcome of a creative process often is experimental and even accidental. celebrating the mistakes that create a sense of uniqueness and character of a recording.

a newborn imprint with an obscure name makes the perfect home for kozo to showcase some of his studio work under the ooodjkoz alter ego.
uncle tom’s tune needs all its 13 minutes to develop, with the melodic pattern fading in and out the wobbly baseline, like hiding from the sci fi sounds scattered throughout the track. crafted to please crowds that enjoy to be cooked slowly, milly van illy takes it to a more dynamic pace, stiching the groove beneath the percussions and storing all the energy into the hi hats. as for lady gargara, we’re gratified with a twisted cocktail of chopped voices stuttering on broken drum loops.

the man known as dj nature holds a long and illustrious list of releases that spans all the way back to the early 90s, when, as nature boy, the bristol born dj and producer was carving out sample heavy house music for labels like ruff disco records and the underworld affiliated tomato label. his relatively modern re-incarnation, as dj nature, has seen singles and two albums come correct on revered labels like golf channel recordings and jazzy sport. following on from futureboogies landmark 50th release, dj nature drops a heavyweight four track ep on the bristol label, each track promising and delivering summertime vibes in abundance. born lifted, with its deft guitar licks and soulful vocal chops over lazy, hazy beats, is a great example of the nature aesthetics that make his tracks so very popular across the house fraternity. my life picks up the pace, deploying granite hard snares and cosmic chords with dusted vocal samples. on the flip, what it isnt packs some jazz chops with its sampled pianos and saxophone riffs over a discordant beat that swings with the best of them, whilst ep closer loving u more again serves up some delicious summertime grooves with the perfect marriage of deep, funky bass and seductive samples.

italian producer alfredo mazzilli presents us with logical strength, his second ep on weekend circuit. across 4 tracks he expresses his own unique take on the deepest strains of techno and it s outer reaches. ep opener logical strength is a throbbing piece of driving, menacing wormhole music with heavy arpeggiated sounds and rock solid, incessant drum-programming, leaving nothing standing in it s wake it is a firm statement of intent. nuvole sees the pace change slightly, adopting more of an eerie, borderline hallucinatory feel. the track unfolds beautifully with heavenly pads and synth swells draped across some tribally infused drums. on side 2 we have a stellar remix of nuvole from eminent swedish producer evigt mörker who travels a more subdued, sedate path with his interpretation. finishing off this 4 track excursion we are drawn into the beatless, introspective terrain of parhelion . a beautifully nuanced and subtle way to close things. washes of synth and atmosphere embrace us as we travel onwards, deeper into the night. alfredo mazzilli shows us once again his own individual and unique style on this ep, another essential chapter in the weekend circuit story.

raam is putting out records in a steady pace and has already reached raam 006. on this ep raam is diving deeper into the deep house universe and the production and sound quality is immaculate. the ep opens with titled, which is the perfect marriage between that warm deep bass-line, rolling percussion and fragile and wobbly chords.

following a joint live performance in 2016, butter sessions present the latest collaborative effort from albrecht la brooy (analogue attic) & sleep d (butter sessions). this ep sees al & sd blend their respective styles in a stimulating way. from 50 begins the ep with steady 909 grooves and a subtle oscillating acid bass that builds into another dimension. hotham breaks the pace with atmospheric space leads looking down on a mountain of kick drums. banksia is the most psychedelic of the four, planting seeds of heavily resonating synths atop of floating drum rhythms and warm melodies. lastly, sleeping patterns takes it down a few notches into a daydream of flute-like synths and distant nostalgic vocals.

“devotion - part 3” is the final stage of the journey into the author’s sonic environment. the pace is initially fast and energetic, with “anathema” and “prostration” exploring different areas of the frequency spectrum through mysterious yet functional techno arrangements, which then lead us to the closing track of this whole excursion, “critical devotion”, a slow-motion uplifting anthem that brings us back to the surface.

catz n dogz continue to roll out their pets sub label step recordings and follow up a slew of soulheavy dance records from baltra, reno wurzbacher and the analog roland orchestra with a solo ep from fellow polish producer universo. with previous appearances on transatlantyk, the auspicious newcomer slots neatly into the step catalogue in presenting his ‘underworld’ ep: a package of softly glowing lo-fi that fans of baltras recent sophia ep on step will relish. underworld then unfolds at a steady, hypnotic pace as moody, interlocking chords and paired up with a gentle spoken vocal that work together to create a poignant, eyes-down mood. icy strings and a trippy spoken are introduced before kora buta follows up with some warm, swooning sample work. sleeper is next up as distant, meandering thumb pianos and rainy textures colour the tracks fuzzy drums while a glassy, legowelt-esque pad glides overhead.frequenza kicks things off a soft, sizzling pad sent ducking under a rock-hard kick drum.

moscoman continues his treisar journey with the stunning snake & pygmy ep.
on the a side lies the gorgeous trance inducing snake in a hat, an uplifting intergalactic voyage gliding through layers of synths, twinkling piano notes and melancholic melodies that skilfully progresses into pure bliss.
on the flip, the pace slows down with pirate of the lost ark. this dark mesmeric number features moscoman’s signature gritty bass style, rolling snare drums and swirling synths all mantled in mind bending effects.
the bpm rises again on the closing track forget the rest, an irresistible amalgam of dreamy keys and rumbling drums, punctuated by a catchy electronic funk.

steinzeit concludes the mrt grey series. the duo is comprised of hansruedi schnuriger, one half of echo 106, and bjorn magnusson. they recorded these three tracks in a weekend s time inside magnusson studio, which is an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere, in switzerland, using bare concrete walls as an echo chamber. the pace is slow, atmosphere is bleak, tone is melancholic, drums are evil. it reflects how switzerland feels in winter. lonely, and this is true, like the name of the tracks.

politics of dancing records celebrate their 3rd anniversary with two vinyl only releases and a digital compilation of unreleased tracks from a pretty impressive line up of confirmed and up and coming producers. the first part to be released sets the pace with four deep house cuts from janeret, d julz, djebali and politics of dancing. janeret s first light is a deep, bass heavy number, with spacy stabs, cut for serious peak time action. d julz offers us a deep tech house killer with sharp stabs and a dubby bass, a timeless one for dancefloors. djebali delivers a fat bumpy deep house tune with his very distinctive stylish and groovy touch, and label bosses politics of dancing drops a deep tracky house piece, with swinging dirty underground vocals and a heavy rolling bassline. this is paris house music firing!

repress 2017 , allez! as the curtains come down on another crazy summer of love, apollonia drop their latest release courtesy of io mulen - the ukranian rude boy who appeared on the label at the beginning of the year with ‘unknown to the unknown’. he’s back with a hefty six-track package which is sure to please his fans, and win him a whole new army of supporters. we get straight to business with the first track, ‘rdm37’, one of those trusty apollonia bouncing bombs. skittish beats work off a sublime groove, while io keeps the background full of interesting sounds, boings, cheeps and all manner of whimsical effects, introducing more and more as the track progresses. by the midpoint you’re so gripped by the track that your whole body is moving uncontrollably, super glued to the rhythm. next up, it’s ‘xdt54’ coming through with a deep, persuasive bassline that jigs around in the low end luring you into its web. simple, polished percussive elements keep things moving at a pace while subtle keys and barely-there vocals add further layers to this catchy little number. the third track in on this lengthy ep is ‘mpc13’, a walk on the sensual side. vocal snippets are interspersed among sultry pads, skipping four to the floor beats and a sleazy b-line to create a delectable slice of dance floor naughtiness. this one flirts with you as it writhes around, taking you ever deeper…four tracks in we have ‘zgb41’, another alluring cut that has all the hallmarks of a deep house classic. those shimmering pads, a bassline that feels like it was born in nineties chicago, diamond-cut beats and a general feeling of what we would call ‘true house music’. there’s soul, there’s funk and there’s realness, what more can you ask for?ypt58’ keeps us locked in to that hypnotic groove with an insistent b-line holding things down - together with the infectious rhythm cultivated by the drum arrangement, it’s a killer combo. put those together with the smooth atmospherics plus synth lines staggering in and out of the background and you’ve got yourself a roller. last but definitely not least is ‘zxy22’, a wistful slice of technoid funk which has a delicate melody at its foundation. as it develops we get sucked in to layer upon layer of beauty, from the analogue low end to the electric guitar riff – each layer complementing the other and creating a symphony of sounds that acts as a perfect way to close out the ep and will no doubt end plenty of dj sets, when it’s released. so monsieur io (mulen) returns to apollonia with an instant classic, make sure you snap it up right away. magnifique!

system boss mike gervais releases the drift ep for round five of the us based label. drift - loopy synth sets the pace while airy tones and verbed out hats move in and out of the mix. breaking point - heaving muscular hits chugging along to slinky synth stabs resonate - just what you think a b-side track is. pulled back, deep resonating basslines with sprinkled hats in the reverb. future tool - loopy, delayed vocal tool with subtle changes and rhythmic swirls. highly useful as a straight layer or as a pulse in your delay / reverb pedal. and and voices tool - mangled mess of audio clips and loops

opening this essential release is the slow and spaced out groove of replicant v1, with fat synths and dark spacecraft sounds circling you as the drums grow ever bigger. shoulder of orion then drops into a rickety groove with soulful pads stretching off to the horizon as rough drums march below. proving he has real range, motor rotor is a deep and driving track that conveys a real sense of motion as it races along an intergalactic highway, and love on time picks up the pace yet further with twisted synths roaming free above a motorik kick and icy hi hats. last of all for the digital release, replicant v2 is a spacey and dramatic techno effort with widescreen pads and gurgling synths making for a turbulent ride. first vinyl bonus cut hang on is a forceful seven minutes of eerie and cosmic techno that stretches out in all directions as manic melodies rain down from above. lastly, traktion is full of ominous drones, crashing percussion and sombre pads and makes for a dramatic and driving track that is filled with pain
