pulse locker refers to the analog method of synching analog modular instruments and drum machines, a method of working john tejada & josh humphrey have embraced to generate their trademark sounds and grooves. preferring to work away from the computer as much as possible, john and josh have adapted a more old school approach to their work, syncing analog gear together, not from a computer, but the way it was synced back in the day. the results are a tight, organic analog sound showcased particularly by the 2nd track >bifur gates<. with a tr-808 as master clock, syncing the modular system, the sound takes you back to the mid 90s era of techno. real 808 beats, punchy bass and an ever so shifting classic chord line will leave you lingering for the days of old. on the a side, >pulse locker< with its big and warm groove, gets things moving with a blend of house and techno. rounding out the ep, >unanimous arc< showcases the mad acid sounds possible on the sh-101 while modular chords elevate the track to a manic pace. >pulse locker< marks the duos third collaboration on palette recordings.

slowly building, soul-soothing, and disco-fuelled house with a nod to both the great masters from chicago and the new electronic breed. lisbon producer and lux resident ramboiage likes to take it slow to take things further. >del fuego< kicks off modestly with a simple beat and some light percussion, creating and eerie mood. but then some tasty, disco-fuelled heavy house kicks in, and the tune starts to roll unstoppable, riding on a horn hook. funky like a train, as the mighty equals would say. spanish om records darling al velilla steps up the pace a little bit and lets the original float over some tasty discohouse beats and eighties-flavoured synths.

this twentieth 3024 release is by my friend trevino. i am particularly proud to put this out because it was trevino (aka marcus intalex), who signed my very first tracks and gave me my break back in 2005 (a 12 inch called get down on his label revolve:r). in the last two years he has started taking his techno more seriously, writing new tracks at a very fast pace. i am glad people are taking notice of his music cos he is the real deal and it was tough picking tracks for this release cos he is making so many! ultimately we chose four that would clearly showcase marcus different sides and styles. so, seven years after my >get down<, i am proudly presenting the mighty trevino with his >tactical manoeuvre ep<.

chairlift present takes on several cuts from acclaimed second album >something< by some of their favorite producers, showcasing how their songs can easily be adapted for the club. appropriately titled the 6.15amix, spanish equipo fantástico john talabot and pional turn >i belong in your arms< into a balearica-infused club-closer. a nifty piano line and seductive rhythm take the song on a late night (or rather early morning) trip to the beach, while carolines voice is being warped into something from outer space. photek takes the same track to a whole different place with his powerful jungle interpretation. martyn respects both the pace and rhythm of sidewalk safari, yet exchanges the clean production for a rather more cosmic beat, incorporating many of his signature touches to compliment the sinister >i m gonna hunt you down< lyric. dan careys dub mix of >sidewalk safari< shows a more playful side, while arguably the most intriguing remix of the package is the fields take on >met before<, recalling his early work it is so warped and layered you may struggle to imagine the original minus the smallest of hints.

preceding a full length album on 4lux, ka§par showcases his amazing talents on this second ep for 4lux. the portuguese producer comes with some of the most interesting dance music around. got good love is a tough deep house groover that comes as both original and with a nicholas remix. cruising andromeda is a futuristic techno tune for forward thinking deejays. on hyphen kaspar slows down the pace and tosses in some 707 action: a crazy ride with rough synths and spaced out effects. ka§pars releases have become rare and sought after, releasing little more than one 12inch a year in the recent past when one listens to the result, it only proves how great things take their time.

nico purman returns to vakant with his most technoid record since his 2009 va025 euphrasia ep. a cut the bubble reveals the direction nico is taking with this ep. contemporary techno with a classic touch and the distinctive twist that is characteristical for purmans works. b-side blow my mind slackens the pace a little bit and gives room for more trippy yet groovy moments on the floor later in the morning. mind bending.

roberto rodriguezs italo roots are showing on his remix. he opts to stick quite close to and enhance the pace of the original. paying tribute while at the same time making it his own. robertos production skills are showcased perfectly in the faultless remix. adding a real drive and instead of floating like the original it moves you along like a strong tailwind.

the story begins somewhere far away from awareness and rational thought. our main characters plays the roles of lost but not aimless arrows of pictures. pictures made out of sub atomic movements, amplified through breathable air and finally fragmenting its energy into space. we see the the sun go down in the ocean, the purple and red colors and finally the majestic sight of whales plowing the water in the horizon. it has been many years, in fact, so many years that we are now back again to the same point time. it is like an infinite loop, never loosing pace and determination.

the first release from swedens random island recordings offers three tracks of pure-bred techno from label owner inter gritty. nihad tule provides a stunning remix that turns the raw, chicago-esque pounding of kiska into a dramatic, flowing techno builder. and finally, huemul drops the pace and sets off to explore the deeper side of techno, drenched in drones, chords and deep bass.

years after delivering a remix for booka shade in 2006, shinedoe makes her solo debut on get physical this winter, bringing with her a wonderfully fresh sound in the form of her transcendental ep. she takes us to the tops of mountains and then drags the deepenst waters. light is a deep mix of techno cascades and funk groove. we build up momentum with piano and driving percussion toward a climactic break, then pull you further into the vibe. transcendental brings a treat of dazed synth and organic percussion. a trip into the music brings us to the dark rooms of late night. we are entranced with thick bass and hypnotic repetition throughout the course of the dancefloor friendly track. next we are immediatly entrapped by the muffle of cosmic, under a thick sheet of foggy ambience. vocal cuts stab the air, setting the pace for a sudden bass groove. the track is deep, solid and very detroit.

killer release on new yorks sequencias label. powerful and hypnotic chicago acid inspired cut on the a and a cool slow building chord driven track layered over raw drum rhythms on the b-side. recommended!! label promo text: sequencias does not stop, does not conform, takes no prisoners. our third release brings you a pair of artists from two different points along interstate 94, who have a reputation for the very same. so lets get to it. the main body laid down by villan x is tight metallic percussion underpinned by solid kicks and a stream of robotic filtered bass, containing unexpected shifts within the frequency register. foreboding tones and feelings drift towards us across which the disembodied voice of kold is able to find a platform from which to shudder into our consciousness and pose questions from across the galaxies about the nature of our very being. dcantu carries on the feelings of space, with protracted white noise shots and stabby modulated organ chords, but doesnt leave it long before setting the pace with solid drums and shifting keyboard funk aimed squarely your body and the dance floor as octave changes force you up and then down again to a backdrop thick with texture. this provides for the body and the mind. act fast though, sequencias does not like to rest.

two essential techno players. the bek audio imprint hits double figures on this release, showcasing label-boss gary beck while also welcoming the sounds of mark reeve. mark reeve has made appearances on labels like soma, cocoon & traum and is an artist that gary has been supporting in many of his recent dj sets. gary beck sets the pace with >ars poetica<, the rugged opening track on this release. rasping off-beat bass and unnerving vocal samples join toughened drums and percussion to create a full-bodied fix. on the flip, mark reeve makes his first appearance on bek audio with his >fabula< track. a clean, smooth and grooving lesson in restrained and delicate production, fabula utilises icy cold atmospheres with warm and unwavering rhythm.

this is the debut vinyl release from up & coming producer jim morton. the 12 inch presents two different flavours of the jungle sound. the a side is nyc-dub, a heavy duty track with plenty of pace and energy. an atmospheric vibe is present but the production still carries enough weight with the beats and sub to work the dance floor. think ray keith meets breakage!
on side b, >underwater chord< is again a jungle bass tune but on a different vibe. it is a brighter sounding track, due to the chords and sounds used, which wouldnt be out of place in a liquid style production. with both tracks there is a tip of the cap towards the old skool sound.

ultraltd nice price action >>> here an unexpected bonus 12 inch to the clone 56. with an exciting remix by man of the moment 2562! he delivers a mix full of heavy sub basslines that make the house shiver and completes it with fine detroit melodies. 2562 manages to craftly dart between a concentrated detroit-techno drive and a sensuous dubstep swing which is slightly going towards a 4/4 beat.... but then falls back into that seductive two-step pace. bernardi gives us another take on the original version which is on a melodic, moody and even melancholic tip... so sweet! to top things of mark august delivers his bonus beats extracted from his glossy house-flavoured techno track. as usual with the clone x series: limited supplies!

nice price deal !!! arclight drop the incredible holographic ep. via jacques greenes label vase. heralding from london, arclight caught massive attention via leaking songs on youtube and their incredible take on electronic music. the holographic ep starts with the glorious a side vitamin d. starting with sun soaked chords sparkling beside ethereal vocals it slowly builds in texture & pace until finally climaxing into holographic. the title track is just as memorizing as its predecessor with much more driven base of percussion and hypnotic chanting cascading into the realm of the night / club. b-side purple city is a tale of vice and virtue, sitting somewhere between panda bear, bjork and radiohead - arclight are making some of the most interesting pop music around. dj support from optimo, mary anne hobbs, gilles peterson and james murphy

all nite ep is the young mancunian waltons second set on hyperdub, after his very well received walton ep debut for the label in 2011. title cut >all nite< kicks it off with warm plucked strings, diva moans and lazer-like synths stretched to the point of anticipation over cracking grime handclaps and bass drums, until the track drops into a blocky bass line playing hide and seek with low arpeggios that spiral in and out of the mix, over a giant pounding metallic kick drum before layering on the warmth again. the whole track plays with a fine balance between warm, disco-like lushness and exuberant roughness. >mallet< is driving and darker, building detuned, bell-like tones over a 4/4 beat accented by breaks and fills and gaps, dropping into a big bass line and syncopations that disrupt the beat and bring the drama. >kush< is different again, taking the pace down with low end, synth hip hop with glassy chords, running over woozy pitch shifting rhodes chords fed through a layer of crackly gauze.

aleph04 comes with three special reinterpretations of the labels first three eps. mano le tough is first in line. his remix of > flowers on fire< from aleph01 takes the originals colorful and spaced out vibes and puts them into a little more dancefloor friendly context, with a big 808 booming away and the swirls of the original synthline driving the track forward. mano has been a big supporter of the label right from the start and his releases on permanent vacation, buzzin fly or internasjonal have been turning heads quite a lot, so its an honour to have him on board. the second remix is by wasted gaze. this newcomer from vilnius / lithuania delivers an amazing version of >port hope< , taken from aleph02. a powerful, 2step / garage inspired beat sets the pace, while glowing pads, a super deep bass and enigmatic vocals take care of the rest. watch this guy, his untitled states ep on partyzanai is one of the most intersting and exciting records in a long time. the last track is a remix by aera aka m50 from chicago, who, quite fittingly, took care of this spaced out take on whats my name again? from aleph03. this one is for the heads, a special gem that will work magic in the early morning hours

from the start of this debut release from amsterdam-based lapien, one conceives that the young producer is conscientious. >anvers<, the french name for belgian port antwerp, starts in unassuming manner, synths swimming, bass pondering, a gentle cymbal tapping. its the sound of thoughtful admiration, as if lapien is standing in front of the citys towering gothic cathedral, motionless in the midst of a now modern metropolis. but then, as loops spring uncomfortably back and an insistent beat thunders into the fray, one realizes that this is no time for admiring architecture: this is a night drive through the city – coarse orange streetlamps, chrome blue reflections, droplet-stained window panes. it is, also, at an unusually and unsettlingly fast pace, dragging its deeper house timbres and textures upwards. conforces mix is anything but restful: alarms in the distance fall around offbeat rhythms of increasingly diverse dynamics, bringing rain down on the city at night. to end, fred ps composition is heavy & uncompromising, yet it quivers with synths washed in beautiful, calming ambience

following a pair of fine releases on fine art and under the shade, james johnston delivers another superb ep for no matter what. >after everything< is a masterfully created slice of rolling deep house flirting with disco styles, punctuated with snippets of disco guitar licks and dubbed out vocal samples, all held together with a sumptuous chord sequence. the comparatively upbeat tempo rhythm and deep subs of >lost the house keys< which follows comes as something of a surprise, and the chopped up piano which causes the track to erupt into a flurry of jacking rhythms only add to the proto-chi house mood. the rest of the tracks continue with the same kind of upbeat pace, with >get back to the feeling< interlacing a variety of female vocal samples within its 909 rhythms, and >xtc< injecting some serotonin into the ep with its razor sharp synth stabs and snares, whose rhythms recall the deadly precision of marc kinchens early productions...
