northern irish garage/house duo ric mcclelland and sean grieve make a guest appearance for nycs on the prowl! some of you might know ric from seven music, nrk, large records, night drive...etc. together they join forces for if you want / move back with remixes by giorgio luceri and club silencio, both of whom have had previous releases on otp (club silencio being an alter ego of robotalco).

marcos cabral and jacques renaults latest on the prowl 12 inch features the return of andy ash, the man who dropped >another world< with them last year (otp007) as well as a grab of edits on otp party breaks way back in 2010. as is to be expected with the talented, young producer, the ep is all groovy, bouncy, high-octane house with a hardy injection of disco glitz.

for the second installment of on the prowl x&#8213,,another offshoot of the parent imprint&#8213,,label honcos marcos cabral and jacques renault have dug up an exciting newcomer to the world of house music: epithet.

the mysterious robotalco serves up four deep house cuts for nycs on the prowl. robos road kicks things off with the right amount of hissing strings and slow drifting vibes that win its a1 spot. next up we have it gets to me, which strips things back a bit with pulsing synths, sparse congas, and perfectly placed vocal snippets. on the b-side we get moon robot, it keeps things rolling with its stompy feel and more of whats becoming robotalcos signiture swirling synth pad sound. rounding up the release for b2 is zuk zuk, with its quirky low slung groove that develops into a latin percussive gem...its really a superb way to round off robotalcos otp debut. well done.

chapter one opens with a roland juno 6 delicately arpeggiating its way into our hearts, warming our souls for the tales of deep house to unfold. razor sharp drum machine programming with a classic touch gets the momentum going while haunting rhodes-esque chords repeat over and over pushing listeners into infinity. the overall tone becomes quite optimistic when tense layers of strings and cinematic pads rise above the palette of sound. chapter two immediately takes us to a parallel dimension. another take on chapter one? perhaps. this time around runaway shows its east coast influences with horn stabs and sparkling key flurries. its beauty is tear shedding in the best possible way and its glare of frequencies becomes impossible not to look at. chapter three. as we turn the page, and flip over the vinyl. runaway meets a new collaborator in crime, samn! they quickly find themselves reminiscing over the good ol days and how producers like marc kinchen made feel-good 90s dance music by mastering the korg m1 percussive organ. nostagia always comes through. chapter four closes and finds us landing on thoughts of loved ones soaking up caribbean sun beams far from home. vibes that would make sly and robbie proud for sure. slow and easy

following up his successful foray of sampling on otp party breaks, andy ash finds himself diving head first into the darker outer limits of big room dance music. >another world< nods its head to technos yesteryear, more specifically detroit. imagine a slower version of the motor citys soulful chord pulsing sound and youll find yourself in the right ballpark. add to this andys finishing jacking touch and the result is golden. this time around otps remix work finds italian man of the hour nicholas, from no more hits (label) fame and otps very own marcos cabral

leave it up to nyc label on the prowl to score some authentic yet modern day latin freestlyle. hot latina corinne croons about love and nightlife while her partner brooklyn producer josh anzano does the dirty work. the result is a heart felt dancefloor banger that will sure to be thumping out of car trunks this summer. for this single we get the original, a dub mix which nods to 80s style tape edits, and of course the mighty runaway bomb of a remix. runaway takes the vocals and lays them across a hands in the air chicago-esque drum machine groove spiced with live bass and speaker blaring pads. very big indeed!

on the prowl brings us two outstanding remixes for runaways >the fire below<, canadian duo extraordinaire azari & iii, and scotlands new phenom the revenge. hot off the heels of >hungry for the power< and >reckless for your love<, azari & iii flex their remix muscle with a heavy dose of synth stabbing and percussive angst, reworking runaways original >the fire below< into a peak time burner. the revenges take shows that you dont have to bang it out to fill dancefloors. fortunate for us, graeme clark aka the revenge took time off his own super busy imprint (instruments of rapture) to give us one of his best remixes to date.

runaway continues their classic house love affair with black label honey… pushing dance floor tension with 80s drum machines and layers of synthetic stabs into a post acid house bomb. its a groove that steadily carries you step by step into the outer limits, where youre finally rewarded with a synth lead thats part white noise and part eddie grant >time warp<. on the flip side, we find tbd (doug lee and justin v of !!!) on the remix duties. just after launching their own label >tbd sounds<, the duo found the time to take the runaway sound and juice it up into their own rave territory. their mix starts off by pummeling you with roland 707 drums then slowly morphs into an epic acid techno jam filled with cavernous builds and all the bells and whistles one could hope for.

determined to write a new chapter in nycs long history of dance music, marcos cabral and jacques renault (think dfa, rekids, im a cliche, wurst edits, chinatown, editions disco, rvng, trapez, and more) have decided to launch their own record label on the prowl. with a heavy nod to american classic house, techno, and disco, otp listeners should expect a variety of sound that will propel them to dance for years to come. the first otp instalment entitled the poltergeist throws a heavy blow of dark acid bass, todd terry-esque stabs, and proper dubbed out distortion for a feeling that will leave listeners floored... leaving even the most stubborn of listeners open for more. house music, raw and unrestricted. the b-side, not to be overshadowed, brings us dont block the box. an a-side in its own right, delivering us good old fashioned house music with hypnotically filtered samples and pulsing arms in the air swells of resonance.
