brendon moeller offers up his set in motion ep on echocord sub-label echo echo this september, comprising three originals from the dub techno veteran. south africa, new york based producer and dj brendon moeller aka beat pharmacy/echologist has long been respected as one of the pioneering figures in ethereal, dubbed-out techno with regular appearances at global hot spots like fabric, berghain and cielo as well as releases on labels like third ear, kimochi, neovinyl and echocord. here though we see moeller joining the roster of the latter�s sublabel echo echo, marking its fourth release. title-track set in motion leads with brendons signature murky synth textures at its core whilst lumpy low-end tones, shuffled hats and spiraling dub echoes fluidly undulate amongst one another throughout. eastern beach follows, and as the name would suggest, nods towards brighter sounds with airy pads, soft bell chime synths and pulsating subs driving the composition alongside swinging, heavily reverberated percussion. economy then closes the package, stripping things back to gritty dub stabs, dusty 4/4 drums and billowing noise sweeps.

articulat is the (new) artist name of ovidiu stanciu, a romanian dj/producer living in rotterdam. under the moniker manikin, he worked on several concept albums with titles like popular mechanics, taxim and grandma s attic revival over the last couple of years. while selecting tracks for this debut ep it felt like curating a best of , and we chose to put three thriving and pounding slow-beat bangers on the a side, and to show more of articulat s versatile style on the b-side. expect experimental electronic songs inspired by themes like steampunk and romanian folklore, very precisely engineered to experience storytelling in the most physical way.

external assessment vs. self-conception by robag wruhme: people always think, im that serene and quiet guy, but actually i�m quite a noisemaker. could be that the majority of the material he put out in recent years, most notably the thora vukk album, led to the overall apprehension of robag being the virtuoso of everything subtle, enigmatic and tenderly melodic. well, thats far from being a misconception, but still just one side of the coin. the other side is embossed with his most current productions, consolidated to a double ep, captioned with the enchanting name wuzzelbud ff. wait a second wuzzelbud devoted fans will instantly prick up their ears. we�ve heard that before. back in 2004 robag wruhme released his first longplayer named wuzzelbud kk. as theres no such scenario robag might be running out of stream-of-consciousness turned nonsense titles for his music, this must be a vocabulary intersection linking the early days of his career with its status quo. and it is. wruhme presents wuzzelbud ff as the stylistic follow-up to his debut album, showcasing a sound he commits has been neglected for too long. wruhme cuts to the chase: i wanted to put out some straightforward music for the dancefloor, something for the primetime. well, for the primetime of my sets, at least.

new yorks avision makes his debut on ben sims hardgroove imprint with culture, an ep comprising four memorable and kinetic techno cuts and including an edit from sims himself. having previously cropped up on mark brooms beard man imprint, avision (real name anthony cardinale) has a knack for turning in gritty grooves that draw on earthy, discoid constructs and thats exactly what we have here with culture. from the eponymous opener throughout, staccato stabs characterise and propel the tracks in different ways whether via rolling, almost-there disco loops, gleefully abrasive call and response rhythms or, in the case of sims edit of jux, nifty vocal sample interplay. true to hardgroove form, culture is a release crafted for the dancefloor and delivers with exacting precision.

harlems legendary disco label queen constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades. one of many labels operating under the equally legendary p&p family of imprints land of hits was operated by one peter brown, a truly colossal figure in nycs music scene, its catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. covering a wide range of styles including gospel, early rap and disco the label s output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected dj s and selectors across the globe. mistafide s colossal old-school rap behemoth equidity funk has long been a record that makes the serious collectors salivate and is now here in full 12inch form repress, too legit to quit. not much is known about the crew behind mistafide , their government names are listed online but this is the only record they put out using this name. suffice to say, this has no impact on the fury and style with which the mc s deliver their raps, backed with the studio nous of impresario peter brown. across 12 minutes equdity funk is a slamming disco-rap monster, interpolating elements of the evergreen b-boy jam theme from swat it sounds like everyone just got into the studio and went for it. in the style of the times this is the real hip-hop flavour, a live band, some mc s and some death defying bars being dropped, proper old school. a truly rare recording, equidity funk has been one of those records fans of the disco-rap era have been fiending for for decades - often commanding prices over the $1000 mark you can now grab this slice of essential nyc street funk.

the recording sessions for rastrumentals took place over seven years, between são paulo and brixton, but the roots of the project stretch back to the arrival of digistep�s father in 1970s bristol. aged 18 he had almost nothing to his name, apart from his treasured vinyl collection. these records are still in the family, and have been invaluable in shaping dubkasm�s unique sound. rastrumentals combines samba instruments such as the cavaquinho, pandeiro and cuica with the work of some of the uk�s greatest reggae musicians.

yes, one hundred! wow! morris audio s 100th release is a milestone for one of the most productive labels from switzerland. morris audio started 18 years ago, the sublabel morris audio citysport 15 years ago. with a total of more than 150 releases, the labels have been making their marks by presenting different types of electronic music, from techno to minimal to deep house with everything in between. combining established producers and youngsters, morris audio has an impressive artist roaster. remember the likes of dub taylor, jackmate, hakan lidbo, burnski, till von sein, kris wadsworth, iron curtis, oli furness, dash dude, tom ellis&leif or brame just to name a few? it has been -club and home entertainment- for years and we celebrate this 100th release with two parts of well-crafted tech/house tunes. part 1 is the more techy one and features morris fella iron curtis, new signing anna wall & corbi, and swiss boys replika and elvis cassetta. collectors item!

mood hut is very pleased to present a new record by ian wyatt, performing under the name local artist. hes one of the co-founders of mood hut, and you may remember him from his music on the proibito and rhythm section record labels. you may also have checked out his releases under the moniker slow riffs, including the gong bath 12inch from 2015. this wonderful record can be played at any time of the day or night and is also a great thing to play in the home or in the club. drums, bass, keyboards, as well as other sounds and outboard effects (including delay) are all present. the artwork was done by logan sturrock and local artist.

folks, here is tilly jam number four, served by till von sein with a striking can�t stop, won�t stop attitude. as if the first three fourtrackers were just heating things up, he�s firing out another ensemble of four to bring serious exercise to the floor. �say say say�, the opening title track of this ep checks many trademarks its originator is known and praised for. an explicitly soulful affair, even flexing some g-funk muscles here and there. crackling vinyl noise in the background, warm and thick bass footing, a bassline doing the filterhouse-routine and a sample heavy arrangement that even gets a boost-up after half of its running time. then there is �shadrach�. go do some exegesis if interested where that name stems from. we can assure you, this jazz-infused build-up including nervous hi-hat patterns, a boldly bass groove, a frenzy drum-solo, inciting chants and a horn section scaling things up, stems directly from peaktime heaven. and on b1, �impala� is taking up the thread of this rather outgoing vibe, tvs is going for with this set of tunes. find an energetic beat providing the ground work for filtered adlibs that kinda nail what comes to mind when this track gets mixed in. �whoo-hoo-hoo� � that�s right. just add some subtle percussive lining and let a saxophone take over and you�ll have another trigger for floor-ecstasy at hand. cooling things off a little bit it�s �baden powell dr� as closing cut. tilly is winding up the melancholy-meter on this one, reversing elements and by adding pianochords and synth-pads, infusing an overall mood of wind-whistling summertime-sadness

for russian electronic music, mikhail chekalin is not only a major character, who has affected the scene�s establishment and development, but also a kind of symbolic figure. his music has been praised by many in the west - from journalists and critics of all kinds to frank zappa and karlheinz stockhausen, while in moscow chekalin�s name was excluded from the official cultural agenda for a long time: he was accused of propaganda of foreign pro-western aesthetics and up until the end of the 80�s wasn�t allowed to release his works or travel abroad. this, however, didn�t interfere with him recording dozens of innovative electronic compositions and contributing greatly to the development of unofficial soviet art in general - for example, providing sound design for the famous exhibitions of twenty moscow artists on malaya gruzinskaya or arranging the first audiovisual performances on a specially constructed light organ.
however, just like all great artists, mikhail himself prefers to focus not on personal achievements, but on creativity. i don�t have a biography - only a discography - this quote of the author may become an entry point of sorts into the compilation presented. this archival collection of works recorded within the period from 1978 to 1987 are chekalin�s multigenre experiments ranging from spatial music (in essence, ambient�s precursor) to more contemporary synthesizer and post-symphonic compositions.

in many ways, it s difficult to believe wehbba only dropped his first full-length ep on drumcode this year. released in february, the four-tracker eclipse was a monster statement piece of the brazilians talents and followed on superbly from fake, his contribution to last year s a-sides vol.6 inarguably one of the biggest tracks on the compilation. with the confirmation that wehbba will take part in drumcode s off week party in barcelona, followed by the brand s takeover of resistance in ibiza, its indisputable proof that his crisp, chord-driven take on techno has become a vital component to the expansive palette of sound adam beyer has drawn for the label in 2018 and beyond. catarse marks the rapid-fire follow-up from the prolific producer. opening with the eerie she lost control, wehbba says he took inspiration from the joy division track of almost the same name (�she s lost control ), but instead of crafting the dense sonic atmosphere with vocals, he employs an analogue kick drum and stealth-like moog bass with dramatic results. process follows, a cut which begun as a cover jam of laurent garnier s crispy bacon and ends up incorporating the cut-up vocals of legendary minimal composer steve reich, who is one of wehbba s chief inspirators. the resulting track is an ice-cool percussive work that s rich in dancefloor functionalism. the title track will be familiar to many who follow drumcode radio, a goose-bump inducing highlight of beyers dcr392 at awakenings in eindhoven, catarse is driven by a memorable melodic riff resplendent in 90s techno euphoria. the ep concludes with the terrific mind awake, a powerful concoction of reverb heavy basslines and glitchy effects, that s been thoroughly road tested by both beyer and wehbba and kicks like a rodeo bull.

glasgow s wheelman provides the tenth iteration of dba s dubs series, following a series of high profile releases on huntleys & palmers, studio barnhus, and his own stereotone label. signal is wheelman s most ambitious effort to date, its searing amen stabs and deep sub bass guaranteed to wreck any club, while floating pads and crystalline strings add a bittersweet moment of rave nostalgia to the breakdown. on the flip, in line with the dba dubs concept of pairing a house track from an up and coming uk producer with a remix by an established techno name from across the pond, detroit in effect provide a cold, bleep-drenched take which raises the tempo of wheelman s original to an almost breakneck speed. d.i.e, also known as cybonix, were prolific throughout the late 90s and early 00s on their own m.a.p. label and more recently on rotterdam s clone. to coincide with the release of the tenth edition in the dba dubs series the label are also making all ten original tracks available as a digital package, while all ten of the remixes from the series get their own bundle, with wheelman and basic soul unit providing a megamix of each edition respectively.

ltd 2018 repress , regraded, a sub label of midlands graded imprint focusing on more disco leaning 4/4 music. with just two releases to the labels name from newcomer hubie davison and midland himself, regraded has already enjoyed some substantial attention from the strength of the music. midlands double feature became an overnight summer anthem and hubie davidsons sanctified become a late contender for track of the year. for regrd003 midland is back in the fold with a double header certain to soundtrack all kinds of summer moments. on the a-side final credits takes centre stage with joyous samples and a vocal line that will melt dance floors. on the b-side, vigilante takes on a more reserved menacing persona. dreamy whirling synth lines accent rolling live percussion. both tracks continue the strong run of form the label has been on.

echocord�s echo echo sub-label continues with its third releases this august, courtesy of german producer and credo founder alex bau with his �zenstory� ep. germany�s alex bau has been a prominent name on the underground dj circuit on his home turf, and further afield, for three decaces as well as racking up an impressive back catalogue as a recording artists for labels like cocoon, clr, sleaze and of course his very own credo label which has been a platform predominantly for his own material whilst welcoming the likes of kyle geiger, takkyu ishino and electric rescue onto the imprint also. here though we see bau joining the roster of echocord�s fledgling sub-label echo echo with a new four-track ep and taking the lead on the package is �clouds� with pulsating low-end tones, hissing analogue noise and dusty drums samples all flowing in unison with ethereal chords and sweeping pads. �contour� follows, tipping the focus over to bubbling delayed stab hits, fluttering sub bass and evolving white noise bursts throughout. the �prelude� of �zenstory� opens the flip side and as the name would suggest it�s a cinematic build up to the title-track featuring tension-building, expansive atmospherics ahead of the original mix which features a thumping muted kick, stuttering atmospheric echoes and spoken word vocal tucked into the depths of the record.

nathan micay (formerly bwana) steps out under his own name for the first time with a pair of glistening panoramas well-primed for those exultant hours of the early morning. the 12inch opens with first casualty, aka that track played by avalon in her printworks set last year, before heading into deeper territories with beginning ballads on the flip. in nathans words: these are without a doubt the most personal tracks i have written to date. i made them as a sort of exercise in self-therapy during my first few months in berlin. as time has gone on, more meanings have unfolded with each listen. for me, these tracks are a rebuttal to the endless churn of negativity in the news and online. they have become my battle cry in the club, something to mobilize while also offering a chance to escape it all, even briefly.

after a ten year long career releasing music with many different labels icicle has taken the logical next step and started his own imprint, entitled entropy music. the name derived from his second album �entropy� still aims to inspire the concept that music behaves as all things do in nature and degrades, falls apart and becomes more chaotic with time. in an effort to confront this, entropy music strives to bring controlled, rolling, technically detailed music, without ever overstepping that line when the process becomes inhuman and cold. on this second release on entropy music icicle teams up with kindred spirit and cousin proxima to deliver a four track collaborative ep. the opening track which also welcomes ben verse to the label, is rolling tech funk pur sang. the weighty and detailed yet simple breathing groove make it a track true to the entropy ethos and ben complements this with his trademark lyrics reminiscent of renegade hardware shows past. on the a2. icicle brings a near wooden stepper with a viscous turbulent low-end, a firm wink to the past, with dust me off. icicle�s track is expertly offset by proxima�s solo offering retrace a peak into futurism boasting an evolved playful groove which takes on board equal measures of jump up and 90�s tech. the ep is rounded up by the title track deep dreaming, where icicle and proxima collaborate once more to bring a slight curve-ball. pianos ring in an eerie musical intro to a dark but sultry track where the energy is second to the atmosphere.

a longtime staple of the infamous hague scene, dj overdose returns to l.i.e.s. with what may be his heaviest release to date. razor sharp top notch production is the name of the game on this four tracker which sees overdose move from relentless broken beat electro on the a-side to the more wave influenced cuts on the b-side s, dark spectre echo and strompel. overdose proves once again he is and always has been one of the major forces in the electro world since the early-90s consistently refining his sound and pushing it to new territories. essential!

p�pa & z$oli are an mpc duo from székesfehérvár, hungary, 2 guys who are obsessed with breaks and mpc-s. with their debut on e-beamz they drop a nostalgia drenched ep rooted deeply in early hardcore, rave and jungle also touching down in tha house early on. p�pa & z$oli may seem an unknown name to most and some say that it s connected to gnork or dj shark but who knows.

gaetano battista has been popping up intermittently for some time now, most notably under his own name on boe recordings back in 2013. now he s adopted the name mental vibe construction for this turn on chez damier s courtesy of balance, bringing his most forthright dancefloor cuts to date. guru is a muscular, punchy slice of house music executed with a midwestern toughness and lashing of synthetic soul. lifestyle is equally enchanting in its melodic qualities without skimping on the rhythm section, while lee theory takes things deeper and funkier. chi soul touches on uplifting techno tones in its illustrious synth patterns, but it s still got a house heartbeat pumping away at the centre.

entering the easy jet is the swiss black belt academy from ozelot. zurich is the place, ozelot is the name. we are really happy to introduce the iceman to you. manuel fischer takes the a-side and calls it his own for this time. prioleau and the iceman use the flip side for some weirder and more weed infused tracks. as long as you are happy, you are happy. we are happy. this is just the beginning. keep the fire burning. viva.

obas nenor prepares his nenorion imprints third release >warm yellow stickers ep. tel-avivs own obas nenor has been djing and producing for over two decades with prolific releases on iconic labels such as moodymanns mahogani music, defected, strictly rhythm and heist recordings to name a few.

tatu metsätähti and tatu peltonen formed their electro duo mr velcro fastener in the small town of turku, finland back in 1995. in 1999, after a couple of twelve inches, they released their first full length album �lucky bastards living up north� on i220, which was well noted (not only for its hyper colourful cover art by the designers republic). the album took the duo touring in europe and overseas, and led to further releases on labels like stars-music, ali b�s air recordings, solina records, cyber dance and of course billy nasty�s electrix, as well as remixes for the likes of hardfloor, marco carola, dk8, transparent sound and aux88. returning to electrix with their third full ep for the label (and a gap of 13 years!) they have delivered their own unique and recognizable electro sound with two new cuts. �a monster in two worlds� with its electro-funk sound, classic vocoded vocals and grinding groove is a perfect opener, while �bakteriofag� (bacteriophage in english) like its name, creeps up like a virus, infecting the senses with its crisp and shining melody. additionally, there�s remixes of �a monster in two worlds� from silicon scally (carl finlow in his electro guise) and m-twelve (the new moniker recently launched by billy nasty and surface�s nick dunton) to complete the line-up.

hannes norrvide has had a busy year, it has been only six months since the latest album from lust for youth was released and since then he has released the debut album of norin in the shape of february�s �bakom planteringen�, he has released his collaborative work with frederik valentin under the name kyo with june�s �aktuel musik� lp and the earlier �potentiel musik� cassette album. now he is ready with the second vinyl release under his norin guise.

its a captivating encounter when a producer of relative anonymity bursts onto the scene with an exciting and engaging release, that you re drawn back to again and again, wondering how you ve never heard of them before. porto producer pedro, & washington dc vocalist jenna camille have achieved exactly that with this first release on the mighty wolf music recordings. the influences from jazz though to soul, rnb & broken beat are weaved deep within this record. you re drawn in from the off with an intro of stripped back pianos behind an emotional spoken word monologue from jenna, before it opens up into a beatsy, rnb infused groove. having pulled you in float hits you with a richness of synth textures, layers of broken beats and dreamy chords alongside jennas float mantra hypnotising you deeper and deeper. reaching the last section of the track though you re woken from that hypnotic groove with a switch to a raw and energetic breakbeat sure to get any crowd moving. keep it h 2000 , the final track on the a side, has a real flavour of fatima to it emanating from jenna s blissful vocals - laid over the top of sustained rhodes, weighty synth lines and dynamic drums. flip it over and there s a tougher intensity to future dance (it ll be ok) , coupling rhythmic stabs with jazzy chord progressions, laced behind a groove that wouldn t be out of place lighting up the floor at a co-op night. to close out the e.p. you re given a sensory overload through jenna s staggered, overlaid vocals panned to come at you from every angle its the perfect outro to both stun you and leave you wanting more. and if this extremely well-polished, first key release is a sign of things to come, pedros name will be becoming a lot more familiar in years to come. support from afronaught (bugz in the attic), bradley zero, henry wu, lefto, atjazz & osunlade

july sees radio slave�s rekids invite britain�s renowned swayzak to the roster with a cold war themed release entitled �odessa calling� ep. a name associated with quality, swayzak�s ability to retain their signature sound whilst producing across various sub-genres has cemented them a solid reputation since their humble beginnings in the 90s. their impressive back catalogue includes six studio albums and appearances on labels like k7, m_nus, curle, ellum and swayzak�s own label 240 volts, which was relaunched in 2017. originally a duo comprised of david brown and james taylor, brown has been helming the project solo since 2012. he now joins respected berlin-based imprint rekids with two inspired productions. �odessa calling� is a mysterious track with hypnotic synths, mesmerising pads and enigmatic vocals that combine together to create a celestial aesthetic. on the flipside, �numbers station� continues with the otherworldly feel employing shimmering percussion that wanders alongside a brooding bassline for a well refined finish to the package.

after �star alliance��s initial release as a limited six tape-box set, it was apparent that there was a need for a reissue, which now comes in the form of this remastered double lp set with a selection of the best work and even a few new tracks added. the story is the same but the narrative has been sharpened.

homage returns for their fourth release with the debut ep from irish playboy kettama. the galway native is quickly becoming irelands most exciting electronic music name, known for his hard-hitting tracks laced with old school samples and classic rave sounds. the eps highly anticipated single, body, is making waves online thanks to mall grab givin it the heavy rinse cycle, most recently to a huge crowd at lost & found festival during a b2b with mella dee and denis sulta. the eps b-side is equally as big, housing two absolute peak-hour rave weapons. kettamas bucklyn bridge ep is one hell of a debut, and what better home for it than homage, the new york city label voted most likely to sustain themselves on bodega sandwiches.

maksim dark returns to his spiritual home of senso sounds - oliver huntemanns much touted imprint for his tougher, technoid leanings. maksim, born in serov, russia, has created an indelible impression over the course of his young career, and �movement is clearly the next step on his road to very great things. �attack disco is true to form - a lean, mean and tough to the bone piece of techno with a driving, powerful edge. growling, snarling synths sound like shards of metal ripping through the groove producing an intense vibe. �coordinate is a notch more reserved, but builds a killer, hypnotic groove through stripped back elements, before maksims off-kilter sound design provides the trippy topping. the title track �movement fits its name - the track bursts with energy and atmosphere, propelled by a thick, tactile rhythm and pitched down, demonic vocal by the man himself.

bangers and ash is back. the rough & ready series of records that spawned the wider styles upon styles imprint has always challenged artists (clay wilson, certain creatures, best available technology to name a few) to work their sonics for both the club (bangers) and the clouds (ash), now welcoming contakt to the family in 2018. a native of michigan and a long-time resident of brooklyn, contakt cofounded the boundary-pushing club night turrbotaxr with previous releases on argot, icee hot and second shift and detritus feature on the ash side with a spacious wash of atmospheric analog synth constructs, while shut off notice and ndo are bangers that divebomb deep into classic detroit techno. each record has been screen-printed, stamped and stickered by contakt and sus, with mixing by phil moffa and mastering by josh bonati.
