the * dance session band project* started for the session with the dance duo symbol-ism who represents yoyogi, tokyo known as the base of yygrec. the band is composed by three members. daisuke fujiwara (sax), well versed in detroit techno, got attention when he was playing in his original band “phat”, which sublimated the improvisation style of techno and jazz in 90’s. after that he has played with jeff mills and also with underground resistance. masatsugu hattori (drums) who has been playing across the genre, has appeared on the fighting-style music event boycott rhythm machine versus live. he has also played and gone on a duo tour with mc sibitt from a hiphop crew origami. keigo iwanami (bass) is playing in a club jazz band sleepwalker, a punk band midori, oncenth trio, zycos and more. he keeps playing in various fields of music like jazz, pop, punk, improvisation music etc. in this project, they creates “physical” dance session music inspired by symbol-ism, and reflects their each musical backgrounds of jazz, techno, house, hiphop, punk, improvisation and so on.

die australische band pleasure symbols tritt 2019 physisch und stilistisch mit der bevorstehenden veröffentlichung ihrer ersten vollständigen platte closer and closer apart in eine neue phase ein. drei jahre sind seit der veröffentlichung ihres debüt vergangen. zusammen mit seinem musikerkollegen steven schnorrer begann das duo den vorstoß zu einem post-punk-sound der 80er jahre mit einem pop-noir-touch. die entscheidung das album selbst aufzunehmen und zu produzieren gab ihnen die freiheit sich zeit zu nehmen um zu wachsen und in eine neue richtung als songwriting-duo zu gehen.

ben sims’ symbolism celebrates its 20th release with an 8 tracker featuring the first original ben sims material in the past few years. launched in 1999, symbolism was initially intended as side project of sims theory imprint but quickly developed in to a standout label itself with releases from sims (as aural emote), exos, reeko and a split release with function hitting home on the circuit. after a 9 year hiatus symbolism was reactivated in in 2015 and has since dropped 12”s from the likes of mike gervais, d_func, jc & kastil and george tounisidis,

after a split release with chambray on ben sims’ hardgroove in 2016 greek-producer george tounisidis is set to drop a new 12” for symbolism in november entitled ‘solidarity’. with his first two cuts for the british dj’s imprint picking up support from the likes of dvs1, jackmaster and anthony parasole it’s unsurprising sims has tapped him for a full release on symbolism. since signing, tracks from ‘solidarity’ have also featured in both ben sims’ boiler room and run it red radio shows, resulting in a barrage of requests for release details which tees up the ep nicely. musically, ‘solidarity’ moves between scattered sequences and stabs (‘three clicks left’ & ‘solidarity’), muted hypnotics (‘nekyia’) and fractured acid (‘workers’) while all retaining the distinct sense of movement and dynamism that typifies symbolism releases.

after mike gervais’ strident work on sym017, ben sims’ symbolism imprint returns with spanish newcomer jlg’s four track ‘convolution’ ep. originally coming to sims’ attention via the demo section of his ‘run it red’ radio show/podcast, javier lg has previously released for dynamic reflection and substance but it’s the quality of his unreleased material that secured his place on symbolism. characterised by intricate and interwoven melodic rhythms, some at the forefront and some almost there, jlg’s debut for the label is an infectious and consummate affair.

following a superb contribution to dvs1s mistress imprint in 2015, minneapolis dj, producer and promoter mike gervais drops the four track precision process ep for ben sims symbolism imprint. an integral part of minneapolis small but vocal techno scene via his system parties and label, gervais is steadily breaking out and precision process will certainly aid his cause. from the tunnelling, rave tinged machine funk of precision process and power and pressure through to the fever-dream hypnotics of ‘deep breath’ and motion, the latest ep makes for a memorable take on classic techno elements.
