jax is a collective of like-minded artists, musicians, thinkers movers and booty-shakers, who believe there is more to records than just some grooves engraved into black plastic. their vision is to treat each release as a presentation in itself, complete with original and individual artwork, features and an exhibition. each production will feature artwork shown in a cube of about 8 cubic meters. every record-released will be strictly-limited to 500 copies, which includes a poster referencing the piece made by the artist! daniel roth was born in seeheim near frankfurt. he started to experiment with different styles of electronical music using an akai mpc and a juno 106 in 1997. by this time he wasnt thinking of making music his profession. he then started his studies in skulpturing at the städel in frankfurt. after having finished art school he took up producing music again, influenced by his art and contemporary dance music styles. with his jax release he showcases his ability to combine different elements with his unique touch.

a side >under< from evol intent featuring vocals from singer/song writer jackie b. this dubstep track is dark, sexy, melodic, and poppy, with a bass riff and drums that encourages you to urgently to hit the dance floor, and shake your ass. the vocals are sexy and consistent. she reminds me of esthero in how she can make underground production sound so polished. yet she can take you places emotionally because she makes intelligent choices her vocal tonality. the production is dark, and sounds like a eerie episode of a twin peaks score. you will be hearing lots more music from her really soon. she is also a great producer as well. extremely welcome reissue of one of the shining stars of the boogie firmament - the hugely funky >its you thats happening< from little known band exquisite taste. originally released on tiny new york label starlite back in 1984, this was exquisite tastes only output but what the band lacked in quantity they made up for in quality. a near-perfect example of that early 80s boogie sound, this has it all - insistent mesmerising moog synth riffs, clean crisp percussion, layers of summery vibes and superb catchy vocals combine to make this an unstoppable dancefloor sensation. and thats just the vocal... on the flip, the instrumental is stunning with a sparser arrangement which highlights the grooving bassline, funky guitar work and echoing hypnotic drumwork. with the original 12” virtually impossible to get hold of, this quality reissue is an absolute must-have!

two years ago, during a trip, i drove to a small place named putivl, near the town of konontop. there i realised how much i love ukraine. too many things in this land about history, secret past ... and i wanted to create a national hero vakula, as in the old ukranian fairy tales.

go hiyama has always been a very interesting artist for me, ever since he emerged in 2002 on james ruskins coda label. both his musical & production style have changed a lot since then and i personally feel theres still no one out there who comes near to what he is doing. we planned on working together since a long time now and i am glad we finally made it work with this brilliant 4 tracker. no fillers. all 4 tracks have been tested thoroughly in my sets and always stood out as highlights.
no compromises on these fierce punishing drums, delivered by one of the most promising talents in techno the last years. hope you will enjoy playing these tracks as much as i do. (kr!z)

the phrase >tropical< is currently getting used to describe a lot of different music, some good, some bad, some ugly. to save on confusion senseless went out and travelled the world to find some music from the actual tropics, venezuela to be precise. somewhere buried deep in the mysterious rainforest, or possibly just in a studio in caracas, they found pocz and pacheko. it?s so near the equator maybe we can ditch the ?tropical bass? tag and go for something new, >equatorial bass< perhaps? maybe not. pacheko, francisco mejia, will be familiar to some for his solo releases on lo dubs, murder channel, seclusiasis and for his work with legendary venezualan expat cardopusher. his partner in bass pocz (carlos majoral) is a classically trained musician and production engineer. along with a select few others they run abstractor, a collective of producers, artists and designers, who promote parties, run a blog and do a fine job of representing bass music in venezuela pretty much solo. the collective includes graphic artist design or die who is responsible for the incredible artwork and pretty special video for >zarbak<.

nemanja nikolic was born in belgrade, serbia. a couple of years ago, he decided to move to sydney for the purpose of audio production studies. rejection and a new world are nemanjas vision of dub techno, evolving pads, reverbs, space and delays. highway of thoughts and the voice of my youth are an attempt of experimental, darker, minimal tracks with lots of sfx, samples from the real world and live instruments. delta funktionen (ann aimee, delsin) appears for the first time on dpress and delivers a top remix of >a new world< that finds its place near the solid techno sound of sandwell district, etiku, ostgut ton.
