back in december 2012 we brought you the sounds of the unheard from our romanian ambassadors future nuggets. the compilation gained plaudits from across the globe and was even named by andrew weatherall as one of his compilations of the year. steaua de mare featured heavily and the band was instantly noted for their smokey psychedelic sound. their unique sound comes from many directions. they bring elements of prog, dub, psychedelic rock and contemporary gypsy music (manele) mainly from romania and bulgaria into the mix.

out of the blue follows the recent success of the self titled vester koza ep, which gained support from djs such as ben ufo, even tuell, lowtec, giles smith, efdemin, alland byallo, lee gamble, braiden, and madteo. his brand of deep house and techno was recently compared to both kassem mosse and levon vincent by juno, whilst resident advisor noted ìa confident artist employing a level of patience and discipline that rewards repeated listens. as with the first release, this sequel is made up from a batch of demo recordings that circualted late last year. the works were written and recorded by vester koza in east london and have been mastered by helmut erler at dubplates and mastering berlin.

our leader unveils yet another facet of his production arsenal, this time turning a housey cheek, courtesy of sa ensual, yet chopped-to-bits vocal. the jacking rhythm section skips along in pure style, keeping the tight bassline in check while frantic edits help i need you to fully unfold. stefano noferini nods to the old school in this double outing, and furios blasts out with a nostalgic bassline and intense beeping action over a crackling rhythm section. the title track goes for more heady territory with a hypnotizing vocal seeping in and out of the cracks, while the trademarked noferini groove keeps the bubbling subs in check. the undisputed groove don, dj pp, graces 1605 with revolver amo & navas beef things up even more with their crunchy rhythm section, and opt for a dubbier vibe with their trademarked stomping groove and spacious, low-end percussive magic. dj fronter leads us into another bouncy ride with the percussion-led cntrl and next taking the lead and rolling out into action

with local talk release no. 30 we are moving further into territories of straight up no fuss dance floor action. already having releases on dirt crew recordings, murmur & hypercolour elef knows a thing or two about delivering jacking tracks. wake up call comes in two versions. the original version is a kick & snare pattern driven monster track with heavy arpeggios and deep pads. on the flip brennan green doesnt hold back either. the main melodic pattern together with percussions is unleashed straight on and as the tracks evolves he adds tr-303 lines making the track even more epic. as elef described the remix as perfect for a panorama bar set. the remix is worthy enough based on that one side alone.

camp supafrico return with the sixth edition of their highly acclaimed sound of funky africa series. digging even deeper into the afro-funk vaults, side a features the ber-rare 1984 shina williams and his african percussionists agboju logun. grooving along for a massive eleven and a half minutes, this super-heavy nigerian disco cut splices raw sounding horns with choirs and chants. seriously epic. flip over for dont do it from bongi makeba, a mesmerising afro-funk workout with her powerful voice weaving in and out of the grooving bass and spaced-out sax. last up is the sought-after mangous ye from black soul. originally the b-side of a 1976 release on tiny but top-quality nyc label beam junction, this tom moulton mixed slice of high-octane percussion-soaked afro-disco hit big on italys cosmic scene as well as the clubs of new york. another surefire hit from the supafrico imprint.

second of two new bass-infected dub ep s with a hint of techno by the japanese mystica tribe. titletrack stars are mine and his temple immediately set off to deep dub and bass territories in these two typical mystica tribe excursions: grooving, but dark with lots of effects and tribal influences. prayer evolves around a catchy melodica that wont leave your head for days or maybe even weeks and zen stone tops it off perfectly with this gloomy scifi dubtrip.

through out history, there has a been a growth of intellectual thoughts, thoughts that makes us different from other living creatures. among those thoughts, we see familiar rules of moral and ethics in many historical contexts such as in law and religion, among warriors and even pirates.

betsy just stood there with her mouth wide open. those two guys where fencing each other up and down the stairway. they took 20 steps, back to back, then they turned around, smoothly from the hip, firing magazines at each other. then 10 steps and then 5, both where still standing. they beat each other to a pulp until the blood came out and then until no blood came out and still none of them hit the ground. betsy did not dare to move, even when the duelists finally went away in opposite directions she still stood there like a curtain rod. she cautiously moved her eyes to the left, cautiously meved her eyes to the right, everything seemed to be safe. then there was this flicker of light in betsys sunglasses. they came back.

i had dinner with breach in london and he told me: hey, i have a track that is really dirtybird. i would put it out but its really sounding right for you guys. i took this with a grain of salt but then i heard lets get hot and i found out he was right. it has got the swagger and the sound. it makes girls grind their asses into boys crotches on the dancefloor. perfect. signed. so i then asked him to make something even more sexual, thinking it would be ages before i got something back. 10 days later the a-side came back to me as a 2 minute clip while i was on the train to warehouse project in manchester. i liked it so much that i edited it on the train to stretch it out to 5 minute. as expected, it slayed the room and the final version breach has delivered is one of the best records of the year in my opinion. with the simple title of jack you can see for yourself when you play it. this is the real deal. love, vonstroke

for hardway bros first ep for throne of blood, sean looked back to the late 80s belgian new beat scene as well as chicagos storied wax trax imprint for inspiration, turning in two walloping originals that could just as easily soundtrack a gothic club night instead of an acid house rave. on the a-side, a/b musique kicks off the proceedings with a steady lurching rhythm, driving the dancefloor to ecstacy thanks to densely layered synths and the contributions of timothy j. fairplay of the asphodells fame. the flipside features the absolutely devasting rhythms of shorty backed by an utterly epic nine-minute remix by scott fraser which manages to fuse the disparate sounds of new beat and the lush analog house vibes of classic mr. fingers even as it name checks the latters legendary above the clouds lp.

next up on local talk we got a raw peak hour jam from liverpool producer dale howard (lost my dog, large, morris/audio, off rec). there is nothing light or fluffy about these tracks, its just dirty straight up house music with a dark 90s basement feel. for the main track we actually chose the dub version of throwback over of the original mix. we just thought this version was soooo freakin raw even though its more stripped than the original version. you’ll see what we mean when you drop it in the club! the second track in out goes along the same house theories as throwback with jackin beats and deep chords that will do wonders in any authentic house basement. all in all, a might fine release of classic local talk house music. enjoy!

the latest emotional response release provides something very special indeed, in the form of a new track from under the radar psychedelic rock musician nick nicely. nicely has been making music from the 70s onwards, but his music has recently undergone something of a critical reappraisal, with the likes of robert wyatt and robyn hitchcock supposedly inspired by his work, wrottersley road provides the ideal entry into his music, a masterful piece of shoegaze pop filled with fuzzed out guitars and eastern psychedelic tones. remixes are provided by invisible hands, who provide a minimal 80s inspired electro-pop version, which comes saturated in radiophonic textures, and the oscillation, who take the track into even more abstract ambient territory than the original, deep into a place where time seems to stand still entirely, drawing its rich textures out into infinity.

anyone familiar with mop mop will already know that their refined style has already lend them a unique place somewhere between the worlds of jazz, funk, latin and the italian postmodern style allowed the band to achieve the international film business as part of woody allens to rome with love movie soundtrack. but with this latest lp isle of magic, mop mop digs even deeper to bring us one of their most engaging and organic records yet.

what did you do the year you turned 21? hip-hop prodigy fashawn earned a spot on the cover of xxl magazine, toured the world and built a rep as one of raps new rising stars. fashawns debut album, *boys meets world*, was heralded by critics and fans alike as one of the best albums of 2009 for its gritty, streetwise and intelligent rhymes. some even compared his introductory opus to nas brilliant *illmatic*. it was enough for xxl to name fashawn to its list of hip-hops best freshman.

luuk graham, the hague native drops his second release with lowriders recordings. after his recent remixes, a beattape and some digi releases finally the ep is ready for the public ear. the sound has grown in depth and strength. inspired by uk bass and uk bass and dirty south hip hop scene, he fits in the hip trap/bass culture with his more uptempo tracks but as easily links to the more head-hop in the likes off shlohmo. his sound is very much 8bit - commodore infected blent of hip hop, skweee, bass and retro-futuristic-synth-science. filosofischestilte takes you into an unknown world shaped out of arpeggios, sparkling.

even though he didnt invent the concept, bucharest born and amsterdam residing, andrei idu, or more familiarly, the legendary 1979 orchestra has done a good deal of remixes in the previous couple of years. this record showcases his best remixes and dubs. apart from lesson 1 remix, all tracks are exclusive to this vinyl release.

albinos has now been meaning to open communication channels with the baka pigmy tribe for quite some time, sadly to mixed results… this indeed represents a rather difficult task considering their take on the devil is a tall white man graced with white hair and red eyes! even though the baka people is a peaceful one, the legend goes that if they were to catch that albino devil, they would gut its organs out and turn those into an aphrodisiac concoction. strangely enough, albinos believes that his music just might be the best language to turn those antagonistic feelings into a communion, he even dreams of performing his tunes to the whole tribe, deep within the jungle, surrounded with exotic birds and the most hungry kind of predators! somewhat at times on the verge of irony, his music definitively trades with sketchy, raw and deep emotions, always sincere in the making: always a few steps away from the pre-shaped house and techno idioms, he offers his very own take on dance music, a most peculiar one. solely using old cheap hardware and an antique atari, the tracks at hand are one-take live performances, brutal incarnations of albinos simple virgin vision. as the quest for the baka people goes on, the antinote team is proud to help shed light on the journey of this obscure producer hailing from the grand north.

hello guys and gals, its been exactly one year since the first release on olsen records, so i suppose its time for a new one, now together with studio buddy lindstrøm. >inspector norse< took me to a lot of cheesy places with lots of cash, and i expect nothing less with this new one called... >lanzarote<! (pronounthed with a lithp and a finger thnap) the working title for this was >cowley<, lets see if any of you can figure out why :)... b-side remix by dj-turned-mathematician diskjokke turns down the gayness, but keeps most of the elements for a version even the most serious of the deep house mafia can play. yørs trüly, tødd tërje (and silent partner häanz-peter)

one more heavy hitter on credo, and this time we could even say two tracks that form an ep as strond as the so far most sold credo-release from 2007 - bullet in your heart. the name tells already some connection to australia and indeed the basic idea came up during alex tour down under in fall 2012 where he played three cities within three days and a total of 9h playtime for which he travelled 64h in total. sydney acid is the main track of the ep, no doubt and hard to describe. it is a pure, driven technotrack with a fierce, no blubby, but very powerful acid bassline aiming at riots on the dancefloor. melbourne dub tells exactly what the track is all about and by the way featuring the sound of the local traffic lights that made alex thinking about creating some tracks related to it.

third installment on bottins own tin imprint. after teasing & pleasing vinyl lovers and hardcore disco heads with the luscious two releases lust & dirty (which sold out in a blink) bottin confirms once again his alliance with synth maestro rodion. the moustached duo delivers an incredibly sharp dance floor weapon aptly named *one for all*. think kraftwerk and metro area on a trip to italy, going to a rockets concert all spattered in silver body-paint. cybernetic disco? humanized techno? decide for yourself. pointy-edged synth layers cutting through the dancing bodies like a knife through butter, thrusting bass, piercing arpeggios, sexy warm chords, even a splash of guitar work and -icing on the space cake- an out-this-world chorus with bottins own processed voice impersonating some charming italo extraterrestrial. - extremely small vinyl edition on starry midnight-blue heavyweight wax!

forget me not is a trio from bristol with a rich musical history and close association to the city from which they hail. as solo artists they have put out countless d&b 12 inches and now combine their forces into an even more powerful production outfit. and that is all we are telling you ahead of the release of their four track ep, stronger, on losing suki.

tropics a.k.a. chris ward first appeared on planet mu last year, following up two eps with the album parodia flare. commended by pitchfork for his lush soundscapes and hazy pop, whats clear with tropics is that he listens to a lot of dance music and he cares about production values. the synth and beat programming is as competent as anything out there, and he avoids lazy indie stylings and one button bontempi organ beats – his are crafted songs, much of the pleasure lying in his gift for dynamic arrangement, which is a joy amid rafts of useful formulaically assembled house tracks.
in common with the general post-financial collapse vibe there is less sunshine in this ep than before, and he has absorbed something from a year of intensive house music listening, but chris essential qualities remain a forward-looking wistfulness, hope beneath melancholy, something even more acutely needed now than before. oh look! here comes winter.

if youre going to get someone to remix a seminal record, its a good idea to get someone in love with the source material groove armada, noir and eats everything all fall firmly into this category. chicken lips >he not in< is one of those records that everyone recognizes, even if youre not aware of its name or who wrote it. the bassline is an enduring sound in dance music that everyone knows, and pretty much everyone loves.

sheffield based john shima joins the diametric. family. after a series of digital releases in the last years it is a tremendous pleasure to release the very first vinyl 12 inch of john on diametric. his music could be easily described as the logical progression of the legacy of famous uk acts such as b12, stasis or nuron, but that would be only half the story really. john mixes very emotional and deep techno with intrinsic and delicate rhythmic structures, in parts even harsh sounding bitcrushed percussions, and idm influences together to his very own special blend. now we can already hear the stupid comments from the haters saying that his music doesnt sound new and like the next big hype but the simple answer is: even if so, who gives a f#ck? it is great electronic music and diametric. certainly hopes you enjoy this record and are blown away like us.300 handnumbered limited vinyl copies only. no digital distribution.

when discotheque the volcano was torn down in the hague this year, the bricks and mortar were ground down to a fine powder. in a completely revolutionary process the powder was distilled and filtered by boffins and local music producers to manufacture the music you find on this record. even more surprisingly maybe is that it turns out that the same powder can be both inhaled and injected. i ve just had a bit actually and its not bad. post-post sewer tracks far beyond your wildest imagination.

having established his own basic grooves imprint with a trio of sultry new jersey influenced house releases, shane linehan hands the fourth release over to up and coming french producer janeret. *hard deep* goes even, ahem, deeper that linehans efforts for the label, combining a slamming mid-tempo kick drum with crisp and cavernous dub piano chords and the subtlest of organ riffs, making a nice contrast to the more upbeat styles of linehan. on the flip, linehan delivers his own version of track which ups the tempo and offers a ravey, pitched take on the originals simple one chord piano line, complete with bristling hi-hats and warm pad breakdown.

with its non-placed devices and hard-to-pin-down aesthetic falling between electronic and psychedelic music and the warm-hued sounds of traditional acoustic instruments, burnt friedmans zokuhen,produced exclusively for vinyl, may be considered an extension of bokoboko. on this new double ep, too, the music focuses on uneven rhythms that dictate the groove for all the participating musical elements and display a formal logic to which all the instruments gladly succumb. with its even rhythm and proximity to dub reggae, the track kon ki (c2) shows that exceptions from the rule are permitted among the six new tracks and two re-worked bokoboko themes that round off this follow-up.

the e.p kicks off with she can dance, a slow burning acid number that has elements of deep, grooving house from the detroit school. in fact, the second cut low control bares the influence of detroit too, with its murky, dubbed-out chords ala luke hess moving into a punchy bassline with minimal but functional drum patterns. proceedings get a bit more bouncy on the smoking hat, a quirky acid romp on the less daft side of ceephax, and the perfect soundtrack to accompany a feature-length documentary about.... a smoking hat. finishing up the e.p is fudge fingas remix of low control, the only man qualified to make an already deep as fuck track even deeper. theres been some on-point criticisms about a lot recent deep stuff getting lost in noodly jazz territory, but we are in no danger of that nonsense with fudge fingas at the controls: accomplished a musician he may be, hes never been one to lose the way, and this mix proves his deft and subtle remix talents. dabj done done it again, and hopefully this is the first in a long line of productions from vernon.

knox is the band brainchild of brother-sister duo nic and eliza coolidge. hailing from boston and new york, the siblings released their second ep, here, on december 3rd, and it is a big step forward for the band. formed less than two years ago, in march 2011, knox finds themselves working with the likes of john tejada and kuxxan suum on this release, and the outcome is stunning. here is five-song set full of ice and echoes. it runs as close to the third rail of impersonation, but flies away so quickly that knox sounds contextual and perfectly fresh. the influences from james blake is clear: the swooping, bomber bass and half-timey compressed dub beats, here could also easily be an inventive b-side to the latest how to dress well album. but, with the limited scale, interspersed remixes and foundling status in the scene, i would say it is likely a more impressive feat. the ep as a whole is desolate. expansive spaces filled with cold little beats and vocal washes, exploring in the course of five songs an icescape aesthetic with a sense of place usually reserved for full-length albums. the remixes blend so seamlessly that i didnt even realize they were during my first, casual listen.
