over the course of four unforgettable eps released on throne of blood since 2013, hardway brother sean johnston has cultivated a broad international following for his singular brand of dancefloor fodder. best known as one half of legendary dj team a love from outer space alongside the one-and-only andrew weatherall, johnston’s roots in the dance music scene include a clutch of leftfield 90’s era bangers on labels like sabres of paradise and flashcomm. beyond his original output, johnston has also remixed the likes of man power, the asphodells, museum of love, split secs, clandestino and many more. the laser ep is peaktime hardway bros business. friedman feedback loop revision (a nod to tob boss james friedmans highly-valued opinions) is a masterclass in efficient simplicity, elevating a few basic loops into an exhilarating 8 minute monster. the laser rounds out the a side with a classic electro rhythm/bass/vocal sample combo could easily have landed in retro territory. instead, hardway bros easily flips a clutch of oldschool tricks into an utterly modern execution. the b-side finds tobs label manager max pask injecting friedman feedback loop revision with his love for all things analog and italo. with his impressive collection of synths brought to life by chinatown records brennan green, the song is transformed into an epic set closer thats already devasting dancefloors like berlins panorama bar. the ep closes with afro sirene, a midtempo groover with melodic arpeggios built for the discerning djs warm-up set.
in almost ten years of existence, throne of blood has cultivated a diverse family of musical talent spread across the americas and europe, refusing to settle into any particular sound or scene. foremost among this crew of almost-impossible-to-pigeonhole producers is dissident veteran hardway bros aka sean johnston, known to many as andrew weatheral’s partner in a love from outer space. his third ep for the label, pleasure cry, is characteristic of seans style: a modern sound with sly winks to his rich history in electronic music.

hardway bros (otherwise known as sean johnston of a love from outer space) returns to throne of blood with their second ep. after successfully exploring belgian new beat influences on last years *a/b music / shorty* release, sean continues to explore the darker side of vintage electronic tropes with the sleaze ep.
for hardway bros first ep for throne of blood, sean looked back to the late 80s belgian new beat scene as well as chicagos storied wax trax imprint for inspiration, turning in two walloping originals that could just as easily soundtrack a gothic club night instead of an acid house rave. on the a-side, a/b musique kicks off the proceedings with a steady lurching rhythm, driving the dancefloor to ecstacy thanks to densely layered synths and the contributions of timothy j. fairplay of the asphodells fame. the flipside features the absolutely devasting rhythms of shorty backed by an utterly epic nine-minute remix by scott fraser which manages to fuse the disparate sounds of new beat and the lush analog house vibes of classic mr. fingers even as it name checks the latters legendary above the clouds lp.
this exquisite disco roughie, paying homage to that sleazy, backroom-disco sound of the boys town gang and skatt bros., is the latest addition to the history clock canon. and ill wager that this is going to be the post-summer smash of the undergrounds counter-cultural disco scene. >cruiser< is a simple, bass loop that grinds and growls like an early weatherall-style groove, beneath some of the most x-rated sociolinguistics that would make even a sailor blush! on the b-side, relaxer is a punchy, proto-house instrumental that sounds like something somewhere between the very early releases on trax and one of those obscure 12? killer dub versions from a mid-80s, uk pop tune
knock knock knock, the hardway bros are at the lunadoor... one heavy and melodic piece of tripped out tech music. >deutsche trak<, is one heavy and melodic piece of tripped out tech music! early andrew weatherall support!
following on from the release of fba21 collected works 1996 -2017, which was released november 2017 matthew puffett decided to wrap up the project, with a handpicked selection of artists to remix key tracks from the compilation. amongst these figures are some significant influences on puffett s early years the set includes kirk degiorgio, whose reworking of ‘cross dissolve’ reimagines the track in full machine mode, serving up a slab of driving techno for the main room.
(sean johnston & oyvind morken rmxs) theres a new kid in town! well, the kid behind it aint all that new, but the label is, so we will stick to our claim. after having been super quiet on the output front for a good few years now, oslo dj andoccasional full pupp producer marius circus is back with boom and a boing and a tschak, having decided to launch his own label.
2 releases from days of being wild plus one from their metise sublabel for one special price:
- wild004: catalepsia - dope menace
- wild015: club bizarre - la mort du petit cheval
- met001: catalepsia ‎,– i m not from chicago
throne of blood has been on a rampage of late. from our acclaimed ambient compilation moon rock volume one the the end scene lp from jokers of the scene and the debut single from the rapture’s vito & druzzi, we are on a musical mission and theres so much more in store
up next on craig bratleys magic feet label is the vanity ep. this release is aimed at the vinyl completist and features four remixes which have so far been unreleased or received a digital release. the ep contains three remixes by craig, catalepsis *quartz giaponese*, the souls *tonight* and four walls *no use* as well as the sought after sean johnston remix of *obsession*.
for their latest outing, a choice selection of rock, balearic and pop-reggae-disco goes under the razor for some precise trimming and extensions. beard science veterans hardway bros. & 45 badger are joined by glasgows scratchandsniff, and tokyo matt from hong kongs otaku soundsystem.
anonymous engineer man power delivers the kiloton ep for correspondants 26th release, available in both digital and vinyl formats on 14 april 2014. the producers recent contributions to the label, including a track on compilation 02, feature corrosive riffs and irreverent stylistic mixing. kiloton presents a tighter sound complimenting label signatures of acid-laced, dramaturgical warm-ups and off-kilter body workouts.
next up on magic feet is a release by dark strands. tonys first release came via the first magic feet label sampler. since then his releases have caught the attention of a number of acclaimed djs, with daniel avery citing one of tonys tracks as one of the best he had heard last year. this is tonys first full vinyl release and shows exactly what he is capable of. the title track *return of the oscillator* has had people running to the booth every time its been played from london to croatia, as well as being fully road tested at alfos by sean johnston who also provides a superb remix under his hardway bros guise. the second track *galactic* slows the pace down and is perfect for those warm up sets.
while this album could have gone down a rather obvious route, with the remixers of the asphodells album *ruled by passion…*, andrew weatherall looked a little closer to home.
mainly revolving around the axis - the group of locally-based producers who can be spotted in and out of weatheralls shoreditch studio bunker - reworkings from the likes of phil kieran, scott fraser, hardway bros, justin robertson and ivan smagghe soon came to light.
this idea lead to a broad range of styles with something for everyone. we have stopped arguing in the office about which is the best track. they all are.
after a storming end to 2012 with the slow it down & elijah collins release in november swiftly followed by elias tzikas in december, retrospective is back with a monster of a release. we are proud to kick off 2013 with none other than italys finest, ajello! eclecticism is definately the keyword word of the ajello project comprising of luca (dj rocca) roccatagliati and fabrizio taver tavernelli. the ajello sound features a number of influences all of which can be heard in the tracks on this, their first e.p. on retrospective, electro, new-wave, italo-disco, disco, neurofunk, eurodance, space sounds, early house.
if im a cliche were a home, fit would be the guest room. im a cliché has some relatives - whether distant or close - who happen to produce isolated gems that just have to be released. the first volume of fit gathers four dance tracks made by different people based in various countries. fitting im a cliches artistic view is the only thing they have in common, and it means a lot to the label.
this is a special release to us at days of being wild, firstly because it s the return of catalepsia and he s in a mighty form, secondly because we felt very privileged to have artists of the calibre of sean and don getting involved and lastly the quality of the remixes they delivered left us speechless! so dope menace is an energetic dance floor stomper, centred around a very heavy beat and is indeed quite a menacing affair. built around a hellish, relentless string riff, the track is a dramatic, cinematic, dark mid tempo house number that could induces as much fancy foot work as it would head banging. jerome bazzanella, the man behind catalepsia has been releasing techno / house records for the last 3 years on various labels and compilations (synewave, remute, métis recoordings...) he likes to keep the tempo roughly between 110/120 bpm, favouring a heavy, efficient sound, with subtle sound effects and movements, in the tradition of the records from chicago and detroit.
the eagerly anticipated fourth release on the well received beard science edits label! without a doubt our favourite release from them so far, ranging as it does from blissful balearic bubblers to top secret classic vocal cuts and hypnotic electronic disco. four killer and far less obvious tracks from various scissor wielding producers, head and shoulders (ahem !) above the competition.
french label astro lab recordings has been around for 6 years, releasing vinyls, and now introduces its first compilation on cd. as a turning point in its history, the label had to put together a special and exclusive selection, putting forward all its beloved inspirations and influences. this is how the treasure hunting compilation was crafted. the eighteen tracks on the record are mostly unreleased and composed by fellow artist friends, all part of the astro lab adventure since the beginning: andrew weatherall, kaos or timothy j fairplay - to name a few.
