yugen’s third entry, laurine, arrives courtesy of los angeles-based producer and these things take time label-head b. hayes. at just 22 years old, hayes has packed remarkable perspective into this immersive deep-house four-tracker. it’s the work of a true participant. as if hayes work as a dj, producer, and label owner wasn’t enough, he has also put in time as a diy party promoter (he threw the beloved like i, love u parties that used to go down in the chinatown area of chicago) and a production assistant at chicago dance institution smart bar. the sum of all these parts is hayes impeccable ability to balance functionality with sonic taste.

“cliché’s principle” exhibits the two-sided aura of an artist long familiar with the cultivation of diy ethos: an effortless expulsion of playful immediacy and the unfolding of a musician well versed in unpretentious composition. lucy cliché’s five track ep for fleisch records is a jacking romp through 120-125bpm electro/new-beat, swooning through downcast ambience, lobotomised vocal samples and sweat-drenched hardware rhythms.
lucy’s musical oeuvre piles high, as a figure in the sydney underground for the past 15 years she has always explored sounds that playfully antagonize the status-quo, the dysfunctional no-wave approach of her band naked on the vague and the manipulated tape ambience of half high echo throughout cliché’s principle in the form of chorus buzzed synth chords, abstract drones and ethereal evocation. while there is the strong presence of a live veteran at work behind the machines, cliché’s principle holds five tracks produced purely with the intention of paving the dance-floor.

after keeping an eye on shan as a desired candidate for a while now, we proudly announce to launch his latest release via footjob. his records on running back, beats in space & the healing company during the last 5 years were critically well received and put him on the musical map - a highly gifted producer who’s capable of going into many directions. his “filterjob ep” takes us back to the golden era of sample house. driving beats combined with filtered disco melodies never get out of style. if anyone it’s shan who’s able to play with this type of sound and manages to deliver three superb dance floor bangers in filterjob, on & on and serious. to rounds things up, the ep finishes with a raw and dusty deep house banger called ruff draft pt.2

the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

this time mattia chosed a banging tune “time struggle” with the first new school version, classic heavy techno beat with saturated 303 sub melodies and a futuristic pad to complete this version. the old school version is more percussive acidic, no pad melodies, no compromises, just straight to the point for killing every dance floor.
in the b side there’s a perfect rework from a dutch techno master steve rachmad as sterac, more 909 clean beat rhythmic and minimal detroit infected. the last track “floating life” is a typical drum’n’bass spirit influence of mattia, 170 percussive beat with space pads typical of 90 jungle works in the uk.

leonard chin, born in jamaica, started producing music with legends like augustus pablo or horace andy before he moved to london in 1975 and started his santic label. what more can i say reflect this typical 80 s uk soul production, a perfect glimpse of early brit-funk works combining soul, jazzy rhythms, lovers rock, midtempo beats. the song is mainly instrumental and includes sweet background vocals. this timeless hard to find tune finally has it s first time official reissue. here comes official reissue on pépite
