visionquest 033 is brought to you by the unique sonic voice of hamburg trio wareika, who weave a distorted jazz looseness into the pulsing and ever-evolving analogue framework of madame scorpion. a teasing raw live composition with a tribal heart, the undulating percussive groove rolls beneath haunting strings and an expanding soundscape until space opens up for a rising melody and florians deep absorbing vocal. veteran german house producer henrik schwarz turns in a magnificently wonky remix on the flip.

the seventh episode of the based on misunderstanding series is true show-stopper: last summer the ultra hot duo manhooker(tomasz guiddo switala and sebastian mavin magassouba) digged itself together with paul bonomo aka snax (capatain comatose) in its studio to record with cloud 9 a veritable late summer hit. once their first 12inch on ostgut ton caused a burst of enthusiasm, the hype will be fuelled with this release. this is pop music at its best with lots of soul for the sophisticated dancefloor.

the kontra-musik white label series has turned five. we celebrate with the group who started it all. frak returns to kontra-musik with four more tracks of acidic craziness.

plan b recordings’ lola aka dakini9 returns with another 10 inch in her series of favorite formats. fans of her work will enjoy these two deep tracks with an outer-planetary vibe. *kuiper belt* pumps along with synths and sounds appearing at random like asteroids in space while *plutonian moon* plumbs the depths of inner and outer space with deep basslines, samples, and chords.

finally we can unleash the hi-tech soca bomb 2-4-6. with layers of exotic percussion morphing and weaving around a strict snapping rhythm, sounds abound in colourful patterns, carnival whistles strengthen the latin flavour whilst terrible shock directs the dance with his booming intonements. a festival of funky futurism. on the flip desto relocates the track to the ghetto. booming 808 sub-bass lines with plenty of punch drive the inventive on the one broken electro beat and the space opened up here leaves room for percussion to punctuate hard. check the cowbells and whistles (again). the whole track bounces as if on hydraulics!

hidfr000 is a unique joint release by hidden tracks and freak recordings. for this special edition, dj hidden remixed two tracks by freak recordings artists dylan and cativo. doubled kicks and doubled snares make the virus remix an ultra violent, relentlessly dark rendition of dylans original and it has a breakdown bruce dickinson would approve of. the remix of evil has no boundaries has been destroying continents for some time now but never appeared on vinyl or anywhere for that matter. both tracks are now ready to fill record crates and hard drive space. just be careful of what you put near it - these remixes do bite.

midnight moves. thats what comes to mind when you listen to cale parks s n1, preferably at an hour long after dusk has settled around you in some beautiful, insomniac city. parks finds – or more aptly, seeks – beauty and grace in ambience and shadows. n1 starts as pure atmosphere – it feels at first like a sort of lovely sonic nothingness slowly taking form – before growing into the darkly lit, gorgeous moodscape it later becomes. a sensual bassline, a pulsing downbeat, a cinematic piano, strains of italo disco, and the sensation of breezing down a lightless road. if you could make sensuous shapes of the night – imagine kneading the dark itself – it might, at the very best, feel like this. the task of remixing parks s original is taken up by french duo paradis, who can otherwise be heard making music on tim sweeney s beats in space label. the paris-based producers shine a brightening light on parks s dusky creation, quickening its pulse and trading in its darkwave undercurrents for enlivening techno and house. theres an element of floating here – a dreaminess in the rhythms, an astral aspect to the keys beaming through the beats. and with the addition of vocals, sung in french – a pop finishing touch on a song that already feels like an earworm – the transformation is complete. this excellent introduction to cale parkss music is also his debut release on the hakt label.

opener getting run down loops up a nagging hip hop sample over skittering dukey beats and washes drifting pads and spacey keys over the top for a hypnotic late night groover. reach out goes at a calmer pace, but revolves around intense builds, insistent polyrhythms and detroity riffs for a bit of hypnagogic drama. on memix duties, om unit does what you hope hes going to do, injecting reach out with seemingly infinite swathes of space and bottom end, looping about at his own pace, but with that constant sense of om unit purpose. nphonix closes out proceedings with a tweaky, rubbery acid style workout that will find friends in bass and house camps.
