behind is an expansive collection for hackford, who draws from experimental, process-oriented composition techniques to create sensorially engaging dance music. an ethos of presence, enrichment and dissociation pervades behind - by stripping away the constructed-ness of so much dance music, hackford allows himself to produce music that is as much a joy to create as it is to share. an ambassador of -ecstatic states- as he calls them, hackford s music suggests heightened temporal zones may be ubiquitous if you allow them to be. behind is a proposition of such ecstatic states, its music pulsing vitally at opposite ends of the bpm spectrum. distinctly unmotivated by polemic dialogues around dance music, behind seeks a more soluble musical space for unmitigated engagement. it is music inspired by transitions, no less vital before sunset as it is after the curtain call.

die verboten are a space rock band formed by david and stephen dewaele of soulwax, fergus fergadelic purcell and henry riton. this is the first album from die verboten, written and recorded in 2007, rediscovered and mixed in 2015. this lp consists of five tracks, dafalganger, white island, e40, nacht winkel and aquarius. it is the sound of classic german kosmiche, live drums, synths, percussion and a loose funk you only find in these kind of stretched fluid grooves. the album was produced by die verboten and recorded and mixed at deewee. artwork is by ill studio / fergadelic. die verbotens debut ep live in eivissa was released in 2009 via londons vinyl factory (now selling for over £100 on discogs) and was recorded poolside in ibiza.

kyle geiger returns to droid recordings for a three-track suite of techno and rhythmic experiments, jupiter storm. a1 (jupiter, hydrogen edit) builds from a rumbling kick, slowly constructing a space of delayed tones and filtered noisse pressure aimed at the dancefloor. b1 (mars) takes things for a truly unexpected turn, borrowing some of jupiter�s sonic language and reformulating a triple-metered groove with waves of noise and distortion. the title track, jupiter storm (b2) brings the full kick back into the picture riding the mars rhythms against the standard kick for a track that�s driving and infectious.

up and coming producer, odd/even label boss and close stockholm ltd affiliate andre kronert arrives on figure with an astounding 3 track ep, completed by a deadly len faki dub. kronert has risen through the ranks yet stayed true to his reduced, warm and powerful sound strategy. the opening track g.i.a.n.t makes for a wonderfully tense opener, with its expansive dark sound design and deep dub kick arriving around the half-way point. this is countersigned then by two more energetic tracks in the shape of the throne room and fallen space, both pivoting over a fulcrum of classic synth hooks and carefully honed percussion. len faki takes the throne room into a different mental zone, with his almost tropical dub version, ensnaring a freaky pitched motif to accent and build upon andre s powerful original elements. classic reduction, and an ep of classic figure contemporary techno.

the first chapter in a series of three eps to come from dutch label field records is from swedish producer staffan linzatti. hypnotic techno from the outer edges of our galaxy combined with richly melodic, angelic and heavenly electronics on the deep space affair. dedicated millsian productions which are riddled with spaceship communications and distant sonar pushes.

the ufo station steered by knutsson/berg travels further into unknown territory with their third release, a solo ep from hans berg, inspired by the idea of whales communicating through galaxies and outer space oceans, vast underwater landscapes in foreign worlds. on whales ep we hear bergs trademark quirky melodies over lush pads and slamming drums, landing somewhere between detroit techno and scandinavian melancholy.

with growing support from technos finest selectors, this uk label is fast becoming one-to-watch if sci-fi-laden machine music is your bag. dark arts 06 rolls out with �gallery�, a crafty slab of organ-burning techno. to follow, rugged detuned bass throbs throughout the raw but funky as hell stealth-houser �spare groove�. the aquatic electro of �opaline� is a delicate, percussion-driven ride until the chest-caving bottom end hits.to finish, �atrium� is a deadly, percussion packed minimal groove - heads down and eyes closed for this tense space jam. highly recommended!

spherical collections of stars form around black holes in situ, that is, locally to their cosmic neighbourhoods. it is said that future space colonization will rely on sourcing supplies in situ. construction in situ uses raw materials at the site: colossal sculptures such as naqsh-e rustam, the leshan giant buddha and mount rushmore were built in this fashion. wild, organic machine grooves, with a mind�s eye on naked treetops and an early sunset. melody breathes out from dubwise fx, percussion by turns sinewy and floating, sub blasts and stripped synth arrangements. keys on air. spacious, witty, melancholic, deadly.

after making a great impression with its first ep, giant records serves up a second hot helping of house music from boss man grant dell, complete with fresh remixes by scottish techno stalwarts silicone soul. dell, also known as chicago transit authority, has been doing his do for 25 years now. as a dj he is at home in clubs in ibiza and barcelona as well as around the rest of europe, and is someone who always prefers to push his own brand of widely infused and influenced music than his own profile. once again here he comes up trumps with the emotive, glowing house cut �in your mind�. with a neat bassline and mid tempo house drums, subtle but effective synth smears add warmth and colour to the groove, whilst soul fuelled vocals add a real sense of personality. this is sure to get people grooving at any hour and comes with grant�s own space echo remix. as the title suggests it�s a more dubby and reverb rich affair with cosmic signifiers and sci-fi vibes pervading from start to finish. silicone soul need little introduction having been at the heart of real deep house and techno for decades on the soma label. their first remix is a darkroom dub - named after their own label - and is a seductively slo-mo and lazily unfolding house cut with languid synths that really suck you in. their lush hypnohouse mix is then a twinkling, late night bit of melodically rich deep house with starry skies twinkling above sombre chords. this is a patiently served but hugely alluring ep that is stuffed with plenty of tender feeling. one again then, both grant and giant have come up with the goods.
