after a considerable career releasing on numerous labels, as well as being co-founder of essen based label mild pitch, langenberg finally drops his first album under this alias. max heesen, (who is also one half of ribn with manuel tur) delivers the smartly titled central heated house for steve bug’s dessous recordings. the lp format suits langenbergs hypnotic house classicism well, allowing time and space to stretch out the grooves and moods over four sides of vinyl working both for the djs and perfect as a soundtrack for the autumn. the lp kicks off with jade, a melancholic, tape saturated introduction to langenbergs deep tastes. room 210 maintains this atmosphere, with fizzing percussion and warm detroit-esque melodies. groove 26 is perfectly timed for the hot summer, as lush rhodes chords and kdj style vocal snippets provide the heat for the openair vibes. the single from earlier this year shadows features the talents of vocalist blakkat, and caused some serious response when it hit airwaves and dancefloors alike. never worry is a heads down roller, built around a simple but perfectly executed bassline, while dreamliner is trippy laidback sunshine house all the way. ill be late and planitz proposal step back into the club, with langenbergs signature crisp percussion, crunchy hits and analog synth wizardry on full display. rain & roses closes out the album in a similar way to how it started wistful, thoughtful house music with soul.

fresh on the back of the release of his third album good luck and do your best this summer, gold panda signs off an acclaimed 2016 with a very limited 12 of three remixes of music taken from his latest record. having previously re-worked the panda track community, berlin-resident fort romeau once again takes the reigns with a gorgeous, nine-minute pulsing, electro-heavy recreation of the track time eater complete with ghostly synth motifs that twirl around japanese instrumentation culminating in a frenetic release. us producer john roberts, who himself released one of the best deep house records of the year, remixes chiba nights, transforming it into a thumping, acid-tinged affair that mixes space and warped electronics beautifully.

the record opens with utopia , a luminous, evocative and fascinating track by the german artist hyboid, the undoubted leader of space and cosmic sounds. the british artist kid machine replicates on the same album side with the track fighting fears , which includes echoes of disco and den haag sounds. on the other side of this 12inch, we will listen first to monologues , a hypnotic-percussive track signed by the renowned french artist in aeternam vale. non auro, sed ferro by hesperius draco closes down the album, fizzing among their usual coordinates: horror disco, retro wave and soundtrack sounds.

after three years and ten eps, amsterdam s will & ink label offers up its first full length from label favorite yaleesa hall and is called woodall. it explores texture, space and sound design in fascinating ways. since 2014 yaleesa hall has released four eps on the label and has become known for breakbeat laced stripped-down techno. this debut album finds the producer indulging a less dance floor focussed version of his sound, and one that is better suited to the full length format. explaining that his tracks most often start as -sound structures and experiments- that then get reworked for the club, here they stay closer to their original forms. woodall is sound sculpture that is electronic and synthetic but also made of real world sounds that are all truly absorbing. comes in gatefold sleeve.

next up to close out a hefty year of dj-kicks releases is one daniel avery, bringing with him two exclusive new tracks and a host of techno heavy goods. the double vinyl release includes the mix-cd.

silencio, a new label out of chicago, will debut its first release from new young talent cirq’on titled the other side ep. on the a-side, “screaming around”, makes its presence felt with a beefy bass line that periodically stacks and stutters throughout its progression. this track is impossible to resist. even the most hardened scenester, the type of person who never dances in an effort to look cool, will be forced to cut a rug as they acquiesce to the bombardment of this pleasing beat. peppered throughout with spooky vocals, tempestuous tones and mysterious snippets, it leads you down a path of rhythms that pushes past the point of no return. similar to the first transmissions intentionally broadcast out into our universe for the purpose of contacting intelligent life, “the messenger” delivers on the b-side with layers of haunting harmonies that unfold over simple, satisfying drums. it’s steadily driven by scintillating sounds in the form earthbased radio signals that rise and fall, as if bouncing off of orbiting space debris on their journey to the great unknown. this track is best described as a mind-exp.

correspondant can finally reveal the release of the remixes for man powers debut lp, which was released last year on correspondant. a year in the making, the remix package features artists and friends hand-picked by both jennifer cardini and man power himself. disco halals moscoman remixes the baggy splendour of beilsteiner, creating a rolling and belching extended opus more focused toward the peak time dance floor. hivern discs jmii takes hunting swan and turns it inside out, exploring space with a cerebral, schizophrenic quality. alternatively, pale blue (mike simonetti) takes boys beware and re-imagines it as an aggressive drum workout. completing the package, suade, the artist who also mastered the original album, replaces ten’s balearic leanings with an idm sensibility, yet still retains the optimism of the original track. all 4 remixes manage to exist as distinct works in their own right, while paying homage to the magpie approach of the original long player.

its the music of the space that extends between oceans and mountain slopes. its the music of the space that is much bigger and much more adventurous than the four walls of a club look like. its the latest record on acker, and it orbits around a song from il civetto. the band from berlin is a wonderfully multicultural bunch. their sound is reminiscent of gypsy, folk or swing, but at the same time it doesnt really fit any of these labels. liberté ana is a perfect example. monolink turns this track into a groovy downbeat tune that vibrates much higher than its low bpm count - the perfect soundtrack for laid-back afternoons or afterhours. pophop does what he does best: party. however, between the catchy bassline and the tight percussions of his remix theres still a lot of space for the soul of liberté ana. umami goes even further and creates an ecstatic banger that has everything it takes to be played during the prime time on the dance floor.

crimes of the future is the kind of label you can trust, no matter who is at the controls. the same could be said for giallo disco, and certainly the two labels orbit a similar space for lurid soundtrack-inspired hardware jams from the italo age. vercetti technicolor is one half of the giallo team alongside antoni maiovvi, and here steps out with a perfectly bombastic range of compositions that revel in b-movie brilliance. -golden taurus- is the perfect slow-burner, those mono bass notes warming like no soft synth ever could, while -topaz fear- brings a more action-driven sequence into the mix. -death wish- too opts for a pumped up club scenario, while heinrich dressel smokes out -golden taurus- into a seedy slow-jam.

persian ahu karimi is a berlin resident. he began his musical exploits in a punk band in tehran but time and space and inertia have distilled his music into a rare spiritual essence, with a delicacy and evanescence like memory. the five tracks here have a gauze like quality.

based out of san francisco, extra classic is a unique live band formed with a keen appreciation of vintage reggae & vintage sounds. the aesthetic, and certainly the skilled method of their production, is an ode to the art of that classic style as referenced to the term coined by the cool ruler himself. recording in their own studio, nopal recording, the band employs a taster’s choice of analog equipment and is devotedly tracked, spliced and mixed in-house direct to tape. however, as the group’s name itself implies, there is a dose of something extra and new in this swirling mixture of space echo, heavy phase, and emotive, psychedelic california-soul.
