when psychemagik’s danny mclewin decided to launch spacetalk records, he didn’t just want to reissue rare material. from the start, one of his stated aims was to deliver fresh new versions of obscure cuts from his record collection. it’s perhaps fitting, then, that the label’s second 12” breathes new life into a suitably little-known gem: avant garde’s 1982 euro-boogie b-side, “everybody’s lover”.

slow futur was the name of the live soundtrack of zombie zombie for a juggling company. an add project that we decided to release some months ago, consisting in 4 tracks of 15 minutes. we were suprisingly sold out very quick. so we decided to give that record a longer life having some new mixes of one the track : hyperspace. tolouse low trax is all around the place at the moment. the amazing resident dj at salon des amareurs in dusseldorf provides a kind of sleazy remix here,that never really starts but subtlelly evolves while i:cube brings it in the dub territories, in a lush mood. enfin, gilb r provides a little reprise,putting the percussions in the front for a tropical effect.

after launching with a killer reissue of a private press gem from morrison kincannon, spacetalk presents its’ first compilation: a superb selection of soul, disco and boogie obscurities curated by noted parisian crate-digger and dj jeremy underground.

following strong turns from kasra v last year, this love fever spin-off label returns to call upon al kassian to drop some electro-pop enchantment on unsuspecting ears. with just one recently released record to his name, al has positively encouraged the intrigue that emanates from artificial emotion. -roboluv- is a sublime slice of house balladry shot through with a curious line in wobbly electro synths, which then really come to the fore on slower b1 jam -default-. with the heavily vocodered vocals pealing out through the mix, it s quite an arresting end result that culminates with the wonderful curio -broken embraces-.

taken from maps of hyperspace’s “superspace” album. “the golden energy” gets revamped for the dance floor courtesy aural imbalance. sanderson dear strips down the instrumentation for a minimal house vibe in his version, and adriano mirabile digs into mikael’s debut ep for his lush tech-house rework of “dream seeker”.

for the second and last ep of contemporary spaces remixes, dynamic reflection welcomes yet another batch of talented producers to the label. just like the first remix ep, it is a mix between household names, and up and comers. first off, it’s perc’s interpretation of glide. the uk based artist, who is known for his use of distortion and aggressiveness, takes it down a notch on this occasion. he has made glide into a echoing and glitchy track that doesn t reach its energy peak until the last couple of minutes. matrixxman takes overwith his biohazard mix of future existence, which contains a tensive synth, confined by a filter that gradually opens,and than closes again, retaining your attention at all times. on the bside, shdw and obscure shape reshaped the hunt to provide the first outright dance floor track of the ep. with its thumping kick and epic pads around the breaks, it’s bound to win crowds over in the club. dutch talent ben buitendijk also remixed future existence, in his own distinctive, hypnotic style. a deep, though energetic track with a very mature sound.

for this inaugural release the french label bfdm introduces two young promising producers aka the pilotwings. agorespace is an excursion, a trip where dark and killer drums meet with some soft melodies and primitive percussion. trance beats is a wonky house track made up of hip-hop/jungle breaks and synthetic animal sounds, a powerful combination of tribal rhythm and creepy synths. on the same side comes cavernes magiques, a modern electronic tune where raw 707 jams gives way to trippy dance pads, 90s influences. on the other side a strong techno track contrasted with bright synths called cours-la-ville, a dark and long exploration.

released during the late 1970s disco era, milton wrights sophomore long player has always stood out as a singular, innovative example of the deepest, rarest grooves known to underground soul lovers all over the globe.

the first r&b rec record is born from the encounter of two artists in the gloomy baltimore of the beginning of the millennium, after years in which their artistic roads proceeded in a very much parallel manner, without ever physically crossing paths, driven by their passion for analog instrumentation and the desire to find and create new rhythmics and sounds. it is in 2013 the two decide to join their forces to create their own personal vision of techno music and dance music in general. resulting in a hot and scratchy vinyl that combines dark, percussion sounds well known from detoit techno, with the sought after rhythmic of breakbeat and drum and base, of the british nineties. also packed with influences of acid-house, this record incorporates features of the so influential 80 s punk era, finally sinking it s roots in the psychedelic currents of the 70 s. the result is a brand new genre which is difficult, if not impossible to define. a unique way of defining dance music, in all its aspects, which is identified under the name of spaceship surgery techno.

the crate-digging credentials of psychemagik’s danny mclewin are well established. even so, he’s excelled himself with the first release on spacetalk, a joint venture with leng records’ simon purnell and paul murphy.
the trio have successfully worked together a lot over the last five years, with purnell and murphy releasing a string of superb collections, compiled by mclewin and psychemagik partner tom coveney. all three men were keen to continue this partnership, and have founded spacetalk to re-release long forgotten, little-known or overlooked music, as well as previously unheard archive material from some of the artists involved.
the label’s first release is as obscure as they come. morrison kincannon’s to see one eagle fly is stupidly rare, having initially been released by its’ creators as a private press record during the early 1970s.

cray76, joakim’s dance project, is back with a 2-track ep.
on the a-side, this is what we would call a banger here at crowdspacer. simple, stupid, raw, funky. is it a tribute to new york? not sure but the b side certainly is. to be more precise it’s a tribute to merce cunningham, the legendary choreographer, close collaborator of john cage and genius thinker who inspired the name of the label. based on a recorded lecture by merce, the eponymous track is a slow, hypnotic and organic house groove, an ode to movement and ny avant garde, because “...dancing is a visible action of life.”

ron trent follows up his first “spaces and places” 12” (fvr017) with this stunning new house single on his own music and power imprint. the a-side is “sao paulo sound systems” b/w “new york city country city”. full color labels featuring the tag “there was a time when music meant everything”.

a new collaboration project on crowdspacer. bryce hackford, part of one of the most daring dj crew in nyc (deep trouble), true purveyor of a certain new york club culture legacy (think arthur russell) and author of 2 acclaimed albums, came to joakims studio and after a few hours of live synth and drum machine jamming, jhack was born. i would describe this as psychedelic voodoo house music. but its up to you really.

dirty analog techno from french boss, crackboy trevor jackson: brilliant! crackboy (and all his dirty aliases) never disapoints for his second chapter on crowdspacer (after releases on tigersushi, im a cliché, zone or fragil), crackboy, the king of french dirty analog techno, half of pov with label-boss joakim, digs deeper into that detroit melanchol-epic vibe with weapons of steel on the a-side before going bonkers on the b-side with 2 naughty stripped-down beat-centric dj tools for the sweaty late night crowds. made me think of some gemini tracks when i first heard it (thats a compliment).

terminal operations 002 sees the berlin based imprint unleash four tracks of raw fire power. kuno and spaceinvasion take a side each and deliver some unruly cuts of acidic techno.

early support from raresh, akufen, and jan krueger, next up on sol asylum is non other than julie marghilano with her innerspace ep. taking the listener to another dimension of sound, she brings her range of musical knowledge to create a solid package with a stunning remix from fred p. starting things off on a analog journey with “innerspace” we move through an interstellar universe with detailed grooves full of percussive splatters and echoing synths that moves us into a dream like state of mind. conjuring the jazz planet in berlin with“katzbachjazz”you are immediately transported to a galaxy of sound with galloping percussion and a classic techno layout. using more 909 techno drum elements she creates a whirlwind of sound with a delicate touch. taking things a little bit deeper with “cosmic karma” she presents a heavily detailed drum structure full of violin experimentation that creates a dark atmosphere but still bringing an uplifting and joyous vibe. finishing off the package is something unique from fred p who julie asked to remix for her due to her enormous respect for him. the emotionally charged remix of“cosmic karma” shows a different side of fred p while still keeping his signature sound in tact. the remix takes us through an ever-evolving voyage through time and space.

dripping out of the pores of tokyo high-rises, aquarium deepspace serves up his debut vinyl release and the second instalment on natural sciences. drawing on a palette of 90 s detroit house music and the electronic tropes of his home town of japan, midnight at the tokyo central is the unspoken soundtrack for the lost souls of the metropolis, recounting the ecstasy of smoke-filled dance-floors, the touch of dry ice melting through a fur coat, and travelling through neon at 6am. narrated by two separate protagonists under one identity, deepspace side explores muscular acid trax, aquatic pads and throbbing deep house jams for the floor, while aquarium on the flip is coated in hazy electronics and dopamine drained murk, drawing on field recordings taken at tokyo s central train station (rainy night in shibuya) through to lush subterranean jams laced in serotonin nostalgia.

looking back on a wide array of releases, it is safe to say that 2015 has been a great year for dynamic reflection. so it was only natural to set the aim even higher for 2016, beginning with the long awaited return of abstract division to their native imprint, by the release of their first ever double ep: contemporary spaces. it is released as a limited double 12inch, pressed on lush white vinyl. a special piece of artwork with download codes giving access to the digital formats is included as a special bonus to early adopters.

finally available on wax, cv313 s classic -lost sequence- culled from the celebrated japan exclusive -live- double cd album released back in 2009. this was lovingly remastered by bazza @ alchemy mastering in london, paying close attention to every finite detail. this master has never sounded so good. on the b side there s a rare live version performed by intrusion at a loft event put on by the good folks over @ little white earbuds. this rare recording was reduced and stripped down, core traces of the original swim inside oceanic bass, and modulating frequencies creating an atmosphere all of its own. this is one for the heads.
