‘neverending story’ opens with ‘a dimension reflected’ and its introductory mixture of keys and beats. the beat is built upon piece by piece, while slippery synths fill in the upper registers. the second track, ‘planet texture’, opens with a blossoming pad which is soon joined by a steady kick and some bouncing synths. before long an adventurous bassline joins in and puts the track into full groove mode. there’s a twinkling synth floating above it all, sometimes present, sometimes not, making you wonder if you’re really hearing it at all. next up is the first track on the b-side, ‘old problems’. filled with little samples and microsounds, the track uses its beat to push through heady and sometimes disorientating array of colours that swirl across the track. a wide synth enters affairs a third of the way in and helps push the track out onto the dancefloor. ‘neverending story’ comes next, featuring a skittering beat and atmospherics that seem to come from far away. a low bassline pops in and out of the track here and there, while pondersome some keys complete the mood. the ep closes with ‘algorithm’, another scrambled, unpredictable track. the track opens with a rainbow of keys and synths, darting between your ears in their affected manner. an almost glitchy ambient track, it brings to a calm close a fantastic release.

there is some serious music coming out of nz right now and has been for a while and these tracks are of no exception. this ep has a very sonically pleasing sound about it all coated with an industrial vibe. from a main room club banger right through to the early morning dark twisted -i have had way too much of a good night- tracks this ep really does push the boundaries and brings something new and refreshing to the table.

for those that knoe delves deeper into the archives once more to repackage a bundle of hard to find cuts on vinyl that have been staple supplies in ben s record bag over the years. the early to mid 2000s was a period of minimal techno overload, finding quality house music then was a challenge compared to today. rather than follow the herd, some european producers took influence from the original minimal pioneers and fused those approaches with house music themes in order to push a unique sound of the era. they turned minimal on its head and gave took it in a different direction. canson from switzerland released a handful of records between 2002 and 2005 that were a prime example of this aesthetic. stripped back beats with syncopated melodies - perfect cuts for those early sets or hazy morning sessions. the three tracks featured on this compilation were originally released on two solo eps for canson: itsudemo and holiday plug in, both of which have claimed squatter s rights in my record bag for almost 15 years. i don t think i ve played one early slot or house set without one of them. this record is quite a personal one for me as it s a representation of my deeper sound as a dj. now the original records are a little hard to find so im so glad to share my choice picks of cansons material on a my label.

one half of the kwc 92 (who has previously delivered two top notch lps for l.i.e.s.), swedish producer max stenerudh aka maxxx bass steps forward with a 9 track solo effort titled gone fishing. right off the bat we hear stenerudh immersing himself in a world of chilled out and narrative fm electronic explorations that call to mind places past. the untitled tracks leave it to the listerner to create a story on their own, as voice pads, hand drums and dare we say pan flutes push and pull their way through the album creating dreamlike textures and otherwordly escapes. ideal music to fall into a late afternoon summer siesta to. lp comes come with full color 22cmx28cm color poster and download card

eddie fowlkes is one of detroits finest, still working doggedly to push his own distinct spin on the motor city sound. hes taking no prisoners on this latest 12inch on his own detroit wax label, bringing a tough and righteous rhythm to the foreground on give it up for my dj with some of those head spinning melodic flourishes that are his trademark. love works is a crooked groover that piles the bass on generously and keeps the swing up high if this one doesnt get bodies jerking then nothing will. no-one does it quite like fowlkes, and hes on impeccable form here.

california and new york aren t the only us cities to have pioneered underground hip-hop over the years. back in the nineties, southern states such as memphis, tennessee were also hotbeds for the fast evolving musical phenomenon. as we push on into the second millenium, from the swathes of short-run, tape-only releases that came out in the 1990 s, some are at last being cut to vinyl. shawty pimp and the big pimpin productions crew were brought to international ears in 2014 when his album comin real wit it was pressed to vinyl and sold out in the blink of an eye. gyptology records (a new europe-based hip-hop and egyptian archaology styled re-issue label) now present a vinyl pressing of the 1995 sequel, still comin real . here are eleven original, raw rap cuts, remastered and restored with love. available june 2018 for the first time in the format that never goes out of style. vinyl only for now and in one short-run only, no represses. produced with the full consent and participation of the artists.

an ardent heart is a focused techno mini album that brings forward stefan goldmann’s most dancefloor-centered material in a decade. the tracks push and pull relentlessly. despite their linear appeal, there is an intricately balanced interplay between the heavy-handed kicks, the bouncy bass accents and the sizzling, yet clear-cut details whipped up by the rallying drums. the peculiar, seemingly “vocalised” mode of synthesis is maybe the most unifying sonic characteristic of the six tracks and one coda. formant shaping, vowel filters and airstream perturbations let a wide range of sounding elements speak in the tongues of a cybernetic babylon. layered polymetric patterns perforate the aural plane with alien scripts. clearly structured, yet opaque messages that seem to have traveled for aeons emanate from the red-hot circuitry. they spill into a network of delays, channeled down into labyrinthine corridors, enveloped in electrostatic noise. most tracks build on chance patterns evoked with hardware sequencers and freeform modulation sources. the resulting synthetic systems are as cohesive as they exhibit vast internal variation and range. thus balancing simplicity and complexity right in the middle, the results are just as immediately gripping as they can feed sustained attention. a wide palette of distortion and overtones mark the contours of individual elements that seem to have near-physical qualities – as if there were metallic strings, thick membranes, a resonating sphere, all struck by electric mallets, caused to vibrate by mechanical bows and sung by silicone lips.

reissue of balearic gem spanglish movement from little known band hot pepper! originally released as a private pressing in 1978 and featuring famous drummer jesus munoz tilico, a giant musician who appeared on countless recordings and accompanied famous figures like paul mauriat and carl tjader among many others. four superb long tracks including the cosmic underground club classic ritual song. hot pepper was a studio project created by mexican drummer / producer /arranger jesus munoz tilico who in the late 70s decided to record an album in a disco-funk vein, helped by some of his friends who were top session musicians. “spanglish movement” was the result, written and produced by “tilico”, released in 1978 as a tiny private edition housed in a fabulous afro cover. being tilico an enormous drummer, you can expect here lots of heavy drums, congas and percussion, surrounded by crazy space synths, male-female vocals, latin horns, afro touches and occasional fuzz guitar.

second proper studio album originally released in 1976 by the king of turkish psych/anatolian rock. recorded in belgium with help from session musicians related to placebo, janko nilovic and mad unity among others, nick the chopper features lyrics in english, huge orchestral sections, and re-arrangements of many of the melodies from his masterpiece 2023. bar&#305,&#351, spent his whole life trying to communicate to the wider world outside turkey. this was his last attempt at doing so with an album before turning to a travel television show to visit faraway places and talk to the young and old, one on one. every production trick of the glorious 1970s was deployed to push bar&#305,&#351, up the european charts, and now they can push him right into your brain instead.

it is not the honor that you take with you, but the heritage you leave behind. we don’t have every day a rework of a classic techno milestone on a label that tries to push the boundaries of the future, but this time is the time. thomas schumacher represents one of those artists that was there since the very beginning, and he is the proof of how an artist can evolve in many ways during the years, but always been devoted to techno, and the meaning of it. “when i rock” was played all over the world for decades but now gets a brand new rework by label boss emmanuel, and the creator itself thomas schumacher. the record has a b/w sleeve cover design by caitlin schumacher on 12”.

the second release on werk is signed by j. manuel. the young producer has been polishing his sound ever since he first started experimenting with electronic music gear as a child. his commitment to following his own instincts rather than conforming to what was being played around him resulted in a very different aesthetic to the one commonly associated with berlin techno. drive fiction ep stands proof of that. all 3 tracks push boundaries in their own style, that being perhaps the strongest link between them. the title track -drive fiction- presents old-school leads over broken beats and electro inspired pads while the a2 -falling in sine circulation- is arguably the most dance floor oriented track, with a pounding 4×4 kick drum and an alarming 3/4 sine wave slaying the high frequencies. closing the ep is b-side -softer-, a melodic track with long, undulating pads that is nonetheless driven by a powerful rave-inspired beat. with its second release, werk comes to confirm the path it seeks to travel through both parties and releases: that of the sounds less rigid. gritty, wild and presenting a wide range of rhythmic patterns, drive fiction ep is a defying record. challenge accepted?

the third realm of consciousness compilation on tale of us afterlife recordings is the label s most complete statement so far. the full spectrum of the label is on display here, as they continue to push the envelope with a high-quality and diverse selection of artists.

johannes albert is a producer as diverse as they come. comfortable across all sub genres of dance music from deep house to italo disco, in italy they call him giovanni alberto. hes been praised by the likes bicep, gerd janson, lauer and the keinemusik crew, and he’s only just getting started. the dancing plague ep is summer music for summer people. opening with the hefty, wonky basslines of the club ready, tpts. gravy train is a combination of grooving bass-lines and disco drums, the end result is a solid dancefloor stomper. the uniquely titled pachanga follows, abundant with nu disco and italo references. this is a real summer track, as the sun sets in the city ahead of a huge party, the one that will entice the shyest of dancers to move. keeping with the off the cuff track names, the ep finishes with the dusty, sun tinged rainbow pan. over the past ten years the needwant mantra has been to push the very best in new talent, having provided the platform for the likes of kiwi, the mekanism, maxxi soundsystem, the revenge and many more.

moss co. continues into 2018 with stephan bazbaz & asael weisss only ep, a three tracker equipped with two original productions, complimented further via a remix from fuse’s very own rossko. lead track only, a collaborative effort between bazbaz & weiss, kicks things off with decidedly a stripped back sonic palette, rich in analogue warmth. sparkling keys bounce off tripped-out atmospheres, as steady rolling beats and subs push the track onwards. the ep continues with rosskos only reinterpretation, an extremely accomplished debut remix that deftly draws from the original’s blissed out musicality, with renewed razor-sharp focus on low-end theory and percussive weight. a promising sign of things to come for this recently indoctrinated producer. bazbaz closes off the package with tagzimi, a solo endeavor that sees modulating dub chords trade blows with snappy percussion and rich pads, a beautifully constructed roller destined for long form sets during the early hours. landing in june, the only ep is set to be a staple feature in the record bags of discerning djs alike throughout the summer months and beyond.

the saver flex ep offers up no less than four seriously catchy house jams. blue shoe kicks off the proceedings with some funked up percussion, which immediately shows that kolja s background as a drummer has taught him a thing or two about groove. a looping organ lick, some little shouts in the background, big stabs and a massive kick drum push the track forward. cleverly arranged breakdowns allow for a couple of breathers to keep the party action going throughout. moving on to lax wax , we ease up a little with a lighter beat on top of which filtered piano chords, a live bass and just a touch of guitar set the perfect mood for an organ solo that simply oozes summer vibes. buggel runter rutschen keeps the mood nice and sunny while adding more punch with snappy kicks and snares – a hugely danceable foundation for these guys to show us what is so great about 70s and 80s disco and funk that these styles are amongst their biggest influences. you had better ask a german what kagghaufen means, we don t want to put you off your dinner. we hope it will be just as tasty as this track is with its pounding, straight beat, which is counterpointed by bouncy congas, funky vocal cuts, beautiful pads and healthy dose of squelchy acid for good measure. all of this is effortlessly combined to round off the ep in style.

for this seconde release, the brotherhood from marseille wanted to present their personal profiles, this ep is built like a various, but built with a common touch, the random bass! hypnotic, trippy and randomised, these tracks are done to push up the dancefloors. the last track is a downtempo vision of the eclectism of this southern crew, hip-hop beat and a bassline played by there friend mike b4, a real candy to close this ep!

synthesis records is a techno music label orchestrated by dj pepo one of the greatest exponents of the spanish techno and with which he returns to his origins more techno to give us his more personal point of view, counting on young talents in the production as well as great artists of international scene. here is the 15th release, but the very first vinyl release for the label.... certainly not the last!

those who preordered, do not have to do so again - we will contact you when we have stock! omar mccutcheon, operating under his batu alias, has been on the frontline of bristol’s innovative electronic music scene since 2013. in 2015 he founded his record label timedance, a platform for showcasing his tastes utilising a close knit group of young producers and djs. batus glistening broken techno productions are pushed through a deeply uk-sounding prism, one informed by batu being brought up on a diet of dubstep and uk dance music from a young age. trying to tie his sound to those genres however, would be a mistake. having been earmarked already by the guardian as an artist to watch for 2018, batus sound is very much his own. batus rebuilt ep marks his third release in just over a year. not one for complacency, his debut release via xl recordings shows batu pushing his sound forward in every way possible, creating his most uniquely slippery sounding tracks to date. i wanted to try and challenge myself a bit for this ep. every track represents a different phase of experimentation and also different tempos, i wanted to push my processes further than i ever have done.

lossless’ first offering in 2018 comes courtesy of co-founder mathias schober. with his -continuing ep mathias definitely continues what he has started with his recent -certanities ep- on optimo trax. the ep is a true reflection of mathias’ constant approach to push the boundaries and merge his influences to draw a coherent painting. in this case the drawing is consisting of three truly unique tracks.

initially described as superlative 25th century electronic exotica by cowboy rhythmbox themselves, the fourth ep from phantasys in-house trouble and hitmakers received support from top jocks including dixon, jackmaster and marcel dettmann. now, i’s dynamic lead track is rejigged, expanded upon and shot through with analogue energy by two equally inventive producer pairings. fellow outsiders on the inside of the house of house, israels finest red axes take the first turn, coaxing the cosmos out of the original and allowing the bewildering vocal samples to lead the way through waves of more than pleasurable cosmic tension. soon, with the timing just right, feet to pedals and strobe to hand, the pair unleash a series of distorted guitar licks that blow dust off the stacks, even throwing in a sharp blast of their trademark surrealist vocals for extra freaky fx. on the flip, marvin and guy zone out and hone in on the originals ebm-indebted elements to contribute a trippy, wave-riding electro rework that oscillates irresistibly. teasing listeners with a playful, almost naive synth line, the mood shimmers instead with uncompromising acid, as the pair ultimately push the modulars into strange and hypnotic territories to get lost in.

out of nowhere, here comes villee with his debut ep chock full of dancefloor gems. from the very first listen we knew we had something special that we needed to release on pressed for time. its a difficult thing to reference classic tracks and artists without sounding like a carbon copy however villee manages this with aplomb. referencing larry heard (check the chords on the inventor), cajual records, french house and the diy free party sound - we think this ep is fantastic! think warm, analogue, looped up, mpc house with swing and you re on the right track
