limited 2018 repress ! before producing on roulé, dj falcon worked in a&r department at virgin. in 1999 he released his first ep (on roulé) and produced a remix of cassius’ “la mouche” which is an all-time classic now. one year later, he started working with thomas bangalter on a track called “together”. two years later, the second release “so much love to give” of the duo appeared, which also remained the last release of dj falcon for a very long time. after 10 years of releasing nothing, dj falcon finally made a comeback in 2012 with several remixes such as justice’ “new lands”, alex gopher’s “hello inc.” and alan braxe’s “time machine”. in 2013 he reunited with thomas bangalter to release the track “contact” on the daft punk album “random access memories” together with guy-manuel de homem-christo.

dos attack are two childhood friends come djs and producers from madrid who ve have managed to create their own little space in the electronic music landscape. the masterminds behind cult label riverette, with releases by such exciting and forward-thinking artists as legowelt, oskar offermann, kornel kovacs, and minor science, the two are insatiable diggers to a point that they opened their own record store in the center of their hometown, named after the label. both as djs and producers, their creations are a reflection of their collection and taste – sometimes trance-y, sometimes hyperactive, always weird and wonderful, mixing the energy of late 70s new york with the good vibes of 90s rom-coms – pure love.

name kicks off his side effects ep with the title track, a deep chugging workout that wouldn t have been out of place on jamie thinness seminal deephouse label season back in the 90s. there s more classy deephouse on offer with clos des trams , a lush affair based on a deceptively simple bassline and samplework that would do st. germain proud. flip over for nobody , a fine slice of moody basement beatdown, and finally vibraphone bowed , a peaktime stomper with todd terry-esque beats and kevin yost-like xylophone lines.

as is the case with fellow ‘enforcers’-turned-producers, henry ‘junjo’ lawes and philip ‘fatis’ burrell, george phang had been involved in the internecine street battles that had split kingston into rival politically-aligned zones during the 1970s, when the broader effects of cold war politics were played out in jamaica. following some encouragement from sly and robbie, phang changed focus, putting the politics aside to concentrate on music production, becoming one of the most important producers of the early 1980s in the process. phang took over the rhythm twins’ power house label around 1982, and with the duo forming the mainstays of his productions, the result was guaranteed audio dynamite, as this killer devotional track by barrington levy from 1983 so amply suggests—a beautiful extended slice of late roots, heading towards the emerging dancehall style.

name in lights have been organising parties, djing, producing music and running their own label feed for a long time. fact is - they are kind of royalty back in stockholm. after releasing records on under the shade, free association, let s play house, as well as getting remixed by dr dunks and axel boman it s now time to present two tracks on omena. believe it or not but the ties between omena and name in lights go way back. all inclusive is that type or track you would either start or end the night with while post mortem sounds like dj koze and isolee would have a baby together. on this release there are two remixes which completely flip the originals. underground hero samo dj is a force to be reckoned with. with recent releases on the trilogy tapes, public possession and an album on snaker together with maxxxbass he found time to work all inclusive into something completely new. watch out for the end. finally label boss tooli delivers a remix filled with as much rhodes and conga as your heart desires.

nice price deal !!! the moody boyz remix of ‘know my name’ lends ms omega’s vocal a more calescent energy, purely due to the lucid dependability of its boisterous, bolstering bassline. it seems only natural that a trailblazing spearhead of the genre of dub should be one to reconstruct the soulful precursor to this experiential achievement, in a version that compels the attentions of both the passive tranquilized listener and the active dancefloor denizen. mischievous percussive splattering, playfully arpeggiated sonic energy and clarified stereo legroom are all integral elements of this dazzling interpretation, as it retains the unornamented, spatial candor of the original, while simultaneously instilling it with a current of what can only be described as voltaic charisma. in short, this tune is a powerful invocation to an inestimable ensemble of musical heritage: concurrent harmonic simplicity interleaved with melodic ascension make the moody boyz remix a consolidated torpedo of euphoniously triumphant achievement and savvily creative coordination.

tzusing returns to l.i.e.s. with his third and (final?) name out of place ep after two now sought after percusors leading up to this one. again we are not disappointed as the massive opener face of electric hits hard taking a typical breakbeat formula and adding some sort of bizarre ritualistic element like the zulu nation or george kranz in a ceremony at a steel factory. emotional eater slows the tempo down, but again the machines grind hard with tinges of acid, heavy rhythms and sparse vocals moving in and out, while the closer r is a stripped down beater made for mixing. top stuff from the in demand producer.

lady blacktronika shows two totally different sides to her character with her return to bass culture via a potent ep full of deliciously dark, bass-heavy productions placed side by side with more soulful explorations of the house sound. following the ‘all in vain’ ep, which landed earlier this year, lady blacktronika comes correct once again with a collection of four of the finest quality cuts. our introduction to the ep is a thorough dip in the deep end of tech house, with the marauding ‘it rains’. full of darkness, the venomous track stomps along with a powerful, darkside bassline and razor-sharp percussion. high-pitched keys add to the malevolent flavour of this raw cut. after that, we get a more measured, yet mysterious and unsettling slice of minimal funk. ‘no good’ is a hypnotic trip inside lady blacktronika’s murky world with snarling synth lines, clever percussion, eerie fx and a naughty little b-line. on the flip we have retro-inspired ‘call my name’, with a very old school feel as the 808 gets a proper workout in tandem with a familiar female spoken-word vocal layered over the top. this is bound to send the dance floor into uproar with its killer vocal sample. finally ‘set out your luv’ gives the ep a heady ending, light airy pads are placed alongside a grooving bassline, soulful vocals, diamond-cut beats and squelchy effects to create a lush, dreamy soundscape which will get those hips moving….

all three original tracks are long building, big room, grooving stompers with a lot of emotions that would fit in various sets pretty much at any time. to keep things entirely d footed, the legend, the man of weird, beautiful, unique and reduced techno world - terrence dixon rounds things up with his hypnotic re-interpretation of title track.

(otherwise known as muslim disco club) and name in lights, plus a remix by studio barnhus kornel kovacs.

on naughty, the debut release for brooklyn-based free association, chopped soul vocals bask in the glow of detroit-styled synths. underpinning it all is the kind of low slung machine funk a certain mr. weatherall is known to gravitate towards. no surprise, considering the legend himself licensed name in lights ur oskunni for his masterpiece compilation last year. meanwhile, across town, studio barnhus doyen axel boman continues to chart his own musical path. his rub of naughty explores a warm and measured approach that has already found favor with his heroes, dixon and koze. while bomans gaze is directed towards the heavens, bushwick newcomer cameo culture has his sights set squarely on the floor. a distinctive bounce permeates the work of this budding house producer, who brings an undeniable disco swagger to his remix.
