berliners dirk leyers and nomad expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma: the use of a roland tr-808 analog drum machine in every single track. they programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks, fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by its own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it: africaine 808 - their third and first female band member. in the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite african and island funk tunes, transforming the old gold into modern dj and dancefloor friendly tunes. the sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion. the trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house. in spring 2012 they first took the project to another level, turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the vulkandance nights in berlin. today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, drummers, percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio. 100% sonic voodoo golf channel every time!

david moleon cleverly shifts between the more sample based works and some harsh techno tracks on this well balanced 4 track release. san salvador is set to be one of this summers harder techno hits due to its funky atmosphere and recognizable sample.

with a lengthy discography on influential imprints like his own sub static, triebstoff, dumb unit, contexterrior, and more, falko brocksieper has been a force in the development in deep, minimal sounds for a decade and a half. working alongside label co-head m.i.a., sub static and sublabel karloff released music from prestigious producers - rené breitbarth, mathew jonson, pan/tone, dj slip, shonky, and themselves - from 2001-2010 and established the lasting reputation of falko while identifying their label as a source of quality dancefloor ideas for its decade-long run.

the third in the modular techno series from live analogue artist and freerotation organiser steevio. after 15 years of producing techno live on hardware, in 2009 steevio began building a dedicated machine on which he could totally improvise an entire techno performance from a blank canvas that far surpassed anything he could do with his previous setup of drum machines and synthesizers. steevio’s modular is 100 analogue, there is no computer involved, there are no memories to save sounds or sequencing patterns, and everything is improvised in real time.. volumes 1 and 2 of the series were just a taster of what was to come, and were the early experimentations on steevio’s newly built machine. steevio records everything he does, especially during the intense practice sessions for live gigs. all the music in the series are out-takes from these practice sessions, and the tracks from volume 3 and the forthcoming volume 4 all come from a three day period in practice for a recent live gig at delete, bournemouth, uk. volume 3 continues from where volume 2 left off but delivered with more confidence and a deeper more hypnotic feel. steevio continues to develop his skills and fine tunes his unique instrument in this dedicated for life project.

*it all started in 1974 with the purchase of my first mini moog and another 70s dream machine, a white mellotron m 400.* so starts klaus hoffmann of his 40 years love affair with the mellotron. moving from prog-rock guitarist to cosmic disco warrior in a space of a few years, the birth of cosmic hoffmann would lead to a number of classic kosmiche albums through-out the 1980s. before this though came space-disco. initially recorded in 1978 after endless late night sessions exploring the new realms of this free form electronic music, the first incarnation was recorded live to tape for a failed film project. an uplifting spaced-out synth journey, it was the later reworked version that would go on to become the lost cult classic. with added disco syncopation taking the track into interstellar spheres, it appeared only as a flipside of cosmic hoffmanns first and last single, *weltraumboogie*, in 1982. unfortunately the release did not make much impression at the time but has become highly sought-after for the more leftfield dj and music lovers in the years since. now fully licensed and remastered, the inclusion of the unreleased 1978 original will be only add to the collectors dream.

adding to his extensive and diverse catalog, alexi delano delivers his first release for spectral sound. my busted sh-101 is an ode to the beloved and portable synthesizer made by roland in the early 80s, not long before delano started djing. as a producer, he s earned a reputation for being a bit of a machine himself, churning out records on a wide variety of labels over the last 20 years. he holds his own in house music under his a.d.n.y. moniker, but its with tracks such as this one that show off his love for dark, weird techno that sits comfortably alongside spectrals finest.

collaborations are often the fortune of timing. with andy having moved on since closing the dissident label to launching his cave paintings project to tim s departure from battant and striking out as andrew weatheralls engineer and soon to be co-member of the asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at eachs respective studios. a love of new wave, new beat, uk bleep and detroit techno all feature in b-ultras and the aptly titled, neu beat. both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of andys (and co-hort joe hart) infamous world unknown dancefloor. running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid houses ideals. clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. backing these up is a remix of b-ultras from jamie paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some b-boy dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.

busking really is next-level in berlin, with the acoustic guitar replaced by the laptop, drum machine and minimoog, all powered by a car battery. it was this thrown together setup that first introduced the world to skinnerbox as iftah gabbai and olaf hilgenfeld took their leftfield, jazzy attitude and improvised genre-bridging music to the streets of berlin for impromptu jam sessions. it wasnt long before skinnerbox were rocking the floors of ritter butzke and wilde renate and getting their music pressed to the black gold was surely the next step...

touching upon dance musiculatory milestones like detroit techno and electro, nsyde007 sees tyon, a well-known but besides this moniker for now anonymous traveller, summoning up atmospheres totally his own. this is space music. but not in the ra sense. take the a-side flaw 11, for instance. this is space music in the way it catapults you out, like the most terrible mistake made by man-machine, into the farthest reaches of an ever faster expanding universe, dark energy tearing at your nipples until they rip off, resemblances of melody orchestrating the drama/bliss of event horizon passage. its dark yet beautiful, like the smile on a dying persons face, and a heavily psychedelic trip at that – but fear not! you won’t be subjected to any despicable noodleage here, just to weird, intensely warped sounds you want to dance your ass off to. make it fat on the other side is the sci-fi equivalent to hänsel und gretel: a perpetuating feeding of the child-to-be-eaten. the finest in andromeda’s hyper-fattening molecular cuisine gets crammed into the gagging brat as doom is looming over its forehead. and with every spoon thats being recklessly punched into the poor little demon’s face it is getting closer to its, as well as the dancers ultimate goal: total nirvana. pressed on black vinyl.

studio bruno is the joint project of johannes beck as well as his friend musicians and producers. the concept of studio bruno is based on a one week stay at studio bruno in an old farmhouse in steigerwald, franconia, a lovely nature park in north bavaria, where each musician invited brings a machine or an instrument of his choice. the focus of that week is the common producing and live improvising.for the first record steffen bennemann (nachtdigital) and sevensol (kann) were invited. sevensol brought his tr-707, his monotron delay and steffen bennemann came with his field recorder. the result of this one-week session is a deep house track with a distorted synth line and a krautrock-slash-funky jazz track!
