george k, dj and producer, born in 1981, based in milan. his first steps in music date back a long time, when he began taking an interest in mixing and scratching techniques. his roots are hip hop and reggae, but in a short time thanks to breakbeat (rockit - herbie hancock) he abandoned that sound for experimentations in electronic music: techno was love at first listen, detroit and acid above all. with the passing of time he has begun to dedicate himself as much as possible to productions using synth and drum machine. now he has begun his new venture as owner/manager of his label fu.me where he will focus his work on promoting new and old sounds - without forgetting his roots - offering bad and dirty sounds .

the 909, the drum machine that has shaped the dance floor in the last few couple of decades, is still leading the underground sound. in this e.p. tino venditti, dj producer based in rome, goes through the sound 90 thus exploiting the wake of 909, adding a pinch of electronics

droid recordings presents a new 12 inch from dj hyperactive, whose jacking chicago sound has evolved over the years into a deeper sound that maintains his signature infectious drive. on 25 hours, an undulating, bassy synth line builds into the machine-voiced partiers dream of 25 hours in a day, before the track takes off with neck-breaking snare and clap combos and proceeds to rebuild. raíz pulls the track from the depths to deliver something more brash and energetic. there is more at play here, with the 3-note riff tweaked throug the tracks duration, and the words 25 looped through a series of insistent, smashing snares. in the final mix, newcomer markus suckut follows his recent remixes of xhin and pfirter with an unexpected and idiosyncratic interpretation. tonal elements are drawn into the lower registers, while the vocal sample slithers around the mix. the syncopated elements of the original surface with in an alternative mode, dark and driving.

chris spero (otherwise known as uk house and techno producer glimpse) and hypercolour co-founder and producer, alex jones, return once again as dense & pika to the hotflush fold with move your body back. having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, dense & pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their hotflush debut (crispy duck) which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at hotflushs recent boiler room takeover. there is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. they make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and move your body back continues with this central aesthetic. the three track ep plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. the title track of the ep may already be familiar to many having appeared on their resident advisor podcast in march and is already being played out by maya jane coles, boddika and adam beyer, amongst others.

love pain sunshine & rain aka lopasura, on only its second release is evidently becoming a force to be reckoned with. benedikt freys distinct rugged aesthetics toy with some conceptual ideas for each contribution, flirting with greek mythologies, romantic legends and the idea of intricate layered meanings and rhetorics for the ep as a whole. coarse kick drums and clattering percussions are used in conjunction with epic industrial and machine-like synth lines, beautifully engineered and held together by the mixed emotions and moody atmospheres present in all three tracks. the genuine and heart-felt intent with frey’s work is undeniable, producing a fine and certain quality that will surely resonate with anyone in favour of the live and raw musical attributes he is skillfully displaying with each new release.

this ep marks a newbeginning in my career. since some time now, >the fog burns off< and we get more and more stable in the buisness. last year we were on the road quite a bit and we found many new friends. people from other cities, who believe in the same things, who do similar stuff and who are of the same kidney as we are. so that makes me very happy, which reflects in the music. for the first time i feel like coming home, although we are at the beginning of our journey into the industry yet.

last years universally acclaimed full-length the predicting machine found musical mastermind and producing demigod john tejada in full gearhead mode. hunched over a plethora of synth modules, the la-based sound wizard dug deep into the circuits and put together an expertly crafted album driving both lab rats and floor lizards in a glorious frenzy. now, the puppet master returns with somewhere, a double headliner 12 inch relighting the fire and putting the beats where the mouth is.

the next vinyl-only release on candela rising is a 3 track ep from irish duo dara smith & ian mcdonnell, a.k.a lakker. all topped off with a remix of the title track by us born and birmingham based dj skirt. after a string of extremely successful releases on blueprint, killekill and an early 2013 release in the shape of a remix for stroboscopic artefacts, lakker are back and showing more range than ever before. coal bath is a real frankensteins monster of a track, a techno/garage hybrid with haunting vocals hiding through the middle and broken beats that hit hard. skirts remix takes coal bath and lays down some heavy demented bass, chops up the middle and grooves things up. all of which leaves a remix ready for the bunker or warehouse. on the flip, rsspstp is a heavy hitter. distorted bangs set the pace for this one, which evolves into a prime example of the attention to detail lakker are so famed for. machine music at its best. the final track on the ep, brood, is dark and dense, full of cold atmosphere, sub-low beats and distant, distorted drones. techno for the darkest floors ...

after emerging from years of seclusion below the chicago underground last year, marquis cooper aka svengalisghost, returns with all new material recorded this winter somewhere between the woods of north carolina and the streets of nyc. an advocate in creating what he calls the anti-beat, cooper takes what he s learned from the traditional machine experimentation of the early pioneers, reconstructs and retransmits the sounds which lie somewhere in the realm of unhinged synth punk or industrial forward-thinking beat electronics. these tracks are truly the essence of house, and a vicious circle it is.

first pressing in dark red vinyl! in remarkably short time, van bonn has developed a well-deserved reputation as a forward-thinking dub music producer. he is tying up electronic listening music with dance music structures for the german label telrae and trapez since 2011, but his newest invention van bonn01 is another step forward. van bonn records now for the first time provides him with a platform, that is his own. it is a sound laboratory pushing his ideas as well as giving him the possibility to feature like minded people. the first edition on vinyl, comes in dark red with a nice artwork. gradient (cph dub) shows a new side with van bonn, expressing a certain form of industrial & romantic privacy in a very radical way. his epic 12 minute track explores the time and space continuum in ways of symmetry. this is a perfect extension of what we know from various dub techno productions of the past. rich filtered delays balanced with a monotony of a mighty & distant beat, makes it an hypnotic piece of music. gradient in its original version is the more hardish and forceful..companion of the a-side, being more raw an direct. van bonn uses here a lot of fx sounds to build a bubble which perfectly embeds the stomping machine liked beat. the >do not resist the beat< owner milton bradley and artist on prologue (and more) has delivered a remix of >gradient< in his genuine style avoiding commercialism and creating his own atmospheric, claustrophobic, cinematic style of techno. listen here to his remix for van bonn.

this is the sound of the future four. led by andy meecham, the brains behind the emperor machine, bizarre inc and chicken lips amongst many others, and captures the excitement, diversity, strangeness and harmony of the uk underground sound of the early 90s. we are talking about the sparse dub mix on side 2 of the 12 inch single, machines making mistakes and changing the course of history, the dark side of the rave away from the neon and the white gloves, future four points the way to the dimly lit corner of the dancefloor and makes you move. after a recent discovery of boxes of old s950 and mpc60 floppy discs full of sound sets dating back to the early 90s, all three tracks have been produced solely on the mpc 3000 in staffordshire, and in perfect unison of north and south, mixed by erol alkan in london.

bunker i-iii is an artefactual statement. the band tap909 deals with this fact and creates some striking material in their live shows. the songs from this ep are taken from one of these indecent moments, which are radical, noisy and unscripted – searching for an answer between all these analogue machine sounds. an answer made out of technology which technology cannot give. against the society of selfish dreamers and spine- less fools.

another storming, ranging ep from the new yorkers: heavy-duty machine funk for the dancefloor, charged and swinging with old-school chicago vibes. the a-side house bobs from tearaway to discofied to rawly jaunty, the techno on the flip from dug-in and twisted to a more wide-open excursiveness. to start, the soulful rug-cutter down runs a sublimated tribalism beneath lovely, dubwise kick drums and sultry female vocal, heavy skies is lo-fi funk, a stand-out, the bass and brilliant percussion-work of the title track crosses us garage with new uk styles (a little joy o to its bottom end). discreet time meshes vintage chicago drum programming with the filtered house of someone like i:cube, and to close, plateau, a widescreen, experimental bubblers, with reaching fxd synths and shuffling snares and hi-hats... perhaps their best yet.

chaos is a tough, ny-house jam with 909 trim. first 3 minutes for the mix, then ending up just north of hypnotic bell house. strictly for the floor. memphis is a broken shell of a sampled break, worked and loaded under matt maaskants emotive freestyling on a concertmate mg-1. trace is the wandering groove of an excited arpeggiator, after the drum machine has left the building.

kolortown is probably the best deep dub act in the world right now, drawing heavy influence from oldschool reggaedub combined with contemporary musical expressions and technology. this ep is a masterpiece in dubtricks, layering & tapebouncing and contains plenty of variety in moods, everything from cluboriented 4/4 steppers to late night chill out when the lights are out. this release shows the true skills of producers xoki & hieronymus here brought to a wider audience, and is comparable to the likes of massive attack and portishead. dont miss out on this part 3-its quite extraordinary!

jtc is a phenomenon. one alias of the multi-talented tadd mullinix. one part of a mind that also houses dabrye, sk-1, charles manier, and halves of tnt, 2am/fm and x2. this time round, on park days, he flexes a house side that has not been seen too often in his career of 13 years. whether the driving groove of south brooks, the late night drum machine jam of argo, creals ever evolving scatter, or the delicate gallup, park days is one of those records where everyone has a different favourite. ie - a good one. we are honoured to release this mans music. a man that continually remains out of the spotlight, yet is revered by your favourite producers for at least one of his many aliases. a man that ignores trends, hype, trickery, and just returns every now and again to nudge that bar a little bit higher than he left it last.

first in is a beat heavy analogue chug rework of the rare and weird italo 7 inch *i am your master* by the mysterious italo connoisseur savino dj and dj peet need based in holland. the arpeggiating bass line digs a circular trench that gets deeper as the track marches on until you end up stuck on an island with a strange creepy midget man. music that blurs the line between disco dreams and nightmares starion is back for more on ep2. how will he make a heavier track than ep1s *another dimension*? by making *darkstar*. analogue manctalo chug at its finest. big bass line, big synth chords, big vocoder action. you couldnt get more dark disco electronic if you went clubbing with daleks and the cybermen were djing.

rekids have teamed up with detroits fit distribution and enlisted the services of motor city locals marcellus pittman and urban tribe to put the 313 sound on *working* and *taxi talk*. on the former, marcellus pittman lays down his trademark blend of mechanical yet jerky old-skool drum machine rhythms and disorientingly dissonant, tripped-out synth chords – creating a somewhat eerie atmosphere that evokes images of detroits manufacturing plants of yesteryear. on the flipside, urban tribe transform *taxi talk* into a big room monster, using rumbling synth bass, electronic bleeps and laser gun snares to transport us back in time to a dark and hazy 90s warehouse rave.

we are the ones with the courage to stand up and express our ideas. so many heroes have sold out, moved on, and turned their back on the detroit underground. if the true believers are waiting on the calvary then i guess cryovac will have to do. this is our fight whether we like it or not. we are a few like minds, not the alphas, never the favorites. we are the other guys, the ones nobody bets on, the least likely to survive a business. we know what the score will bring us, but there is an appointment and we mean to keep it. heroes must define themselves and then redefine themselves. each day that moves forward brings opportunities to tweak creations into what the now means. kieth kemp endures the elements and ailments of an ever changing electronic world. he is an original hero with a smooth technique that reflects an instinctual nderstanding of sound and soul. kieth represents a talent and spirit that does not falter no matter how strange a circumstance can get. he follows his own path to relavence. i am proud to welcome kieth to the cryovac machine.

turn on the strobe lights and the fog machine. shtum returns with its second record, this time by dresdens very own kryptic universe. his ep comes with five cuts full of dark and gritty future jazz. his techno funk is playful as it is evocative. just listen to the bass line in *a light in the box* and the appropriately titled *critters funk*. not to mention the crazy piano in the title song and the rather hard-hitting *dark sky*. on top we got the mighty xdb on remix duties and his take on *signals*. again, the illustration on the b-side label is by aram haydeyan.

chicagos spirit of the black 808 materializes on episodes. having experienced the ebb and flow of the chicago house scene through many of its eras, the veteran rises up with 3 slices of original chicago-style machine funk. limited.

third sides infamous *shit on me*, taken from their first full-length release, *unified fields* is given a four-pronged remix ante up by some of technos more illustrious figures. virginia is back on duty with a fierce and hypnotic twist of jagged percussion and echoing sample blends, transforming the original into an obscure and minimalistic techno voyage, whereas morphosis injects his peerless swamp of sonic oddity under his ra.h moniker – reducing the original into a truly experimental six minutes of chilling effects, echoing percussion and irregular drum bursts…a true hardware show. on the flipside, marco shuttle tears up the beat into a twisting, bass-morphing machine stomp, replacing the originals drums and hi-hats with a mesmerizing cascade of sharp vocals and flickering note-repeats. finally, the elusive techno excursionists, xenogears give the original an ominous industrial edge, where harsh drum machine distortions meet long, dreary pads and cavernous vocal shots of the finest analogue calibre. techno restoration is back with a vengeance.
