DEAD START PROGRAM (2LP+MP3)
following up to three albums on kompakt since 2011, the latest being signs under test (kom321/komcd119) in 2015, los angeles based house and techno producer john tejada returns to the cologne-based imprint with his thirteenth full-length, dead start program - an eleven-track journey spanning a prismatic array of styles and patterns, from john s signature soulful techno tunes to the further mazy, hypnotic motifs of his trancey electro hybrids. be it solo or through a host of multifaceted collaborations, tejada keeps himself busy on all fronts in and off the club environment, be it by contributing the 44th number in fabric s seminal mix series, playing drums for detroit legend daniel bell (as dbx), testing the limits of acid with tin man or joining forces with the hilarious self-proclaimed disinformationist reggie watts as wajatta. since his beginnings and the drop of his debut 12inch, waxing , released through his own label palette recordings over twenty years ago, john has been carving out a lane of his own combining and assembling elements from all ends of his wide-spanning spectrum of reference in a way that allows a more direct transition from the realm of the mind to the circuits of the machine, as confirmed by the deliberately limited studio setup used in the making of the present album. navigating across the lines, from the arrhythmic machine spook of the album s opener autoseek via the straight out thumping and jacking pulse of hypochondriac and heavy-lidded breakbeat of sleep spindle onto the kosmische-infused vibrations of telemetry, vibrant slo-mo inertia of loss and wistful club-ready winds of duty cycle and heal, john threads his way through genres and tempos with optimal chameleonic effect. cloaked in a beautiful sleeve art courtesy of johns long time friend juan mendez aka silent servant another key contributor to the los angeles scene worldwide
sein ruf als einer der produktivsten elektronischen musiker nordamerikas eilt john tejada aus guten gründen voraus: einer wäre der stete, seit über zwei jahrzehnten andauernde strom an veröffentlichungen auf legendären underground-labels wie etwa 7th city, plug research, tigersushi, playhouse, areal, pokerflat recordings oder seiner eigenen plattform palette recordings, ein anderer die schiere qualität seines musikalischen outputs. klassische tracks wie timebomb, mono on mono, the end of it all oder music for doubles sind zahlreich in seinem hochgeschätzten portfolio vertreten, was einen künstler mit ernsthafter hingabe an die eigene zunft verrät. als mitglied der kompakt-familie seit dem 2011er album parabolas hat t ejada weltweit die plattentaschen ambitionierter tanzflurkuratoren mit zwei weiteren kompakt-langspielern (the predicting machine in 2012 und signs under test in 2015) und einer reihe eps wie etwa lakewood drive (2016) gefüllt. vom sorgfältig vermessenen schub des titeltracks ceol zum zackigen roller prelude to madness und aislings impressionistischen, melodischen grooves pflegt auch seine aktuellste 12einen unbachahmlichen sinn für die balance zwischenden treibendem t echnoschlagwerk und house-synthies, knackiger produktion und hypnotischen texturen. beseelten verträumt

IVE GOT ACID (ON MY BRAIN)
next up on the docket for acid camp records is a record created by duo john tejada and justin maxwell. the pair came together to make acr iii with two things in mind: creating sounds that put a smile on their face while possessing as much character as possible. the opening track, -i ve got acid (on my brain)- is a mind-bending wavetable freakout, the likes of which tejada and maxwell have been striving to do for years. using a vintage ems vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, & vivacious. -the name rolls in- is layered in an acid playground of sounds. a rhythmic track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder back at it to create a distinctly groovy track. -field notes-, is a composition of celestial arrangements that is completely beatless. carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, this track lulls the listener into an alluring sonic dreamscape.
ACID TEST 12
after a first collaboration focusing on the city of angels, la legend john tejada and acid innovator tin man (johannes auvinen), this time brooding on the latters home city, and formers birthplace, vienna. the austrian capital is known as the city of music and the city of dreams, two broadly aligning concepts that go far in describing this beguiling 12-inch. the four songs were mixed down live to 2 tracks, created in the real world without a daw, or multi tracking, which has really captured the spirit of performance and improvisation. succeeding railjet, a tense drum workout, comes bim, referring to the colorful trams that run through vienna. here, auvinen sculpts his 303 into near-pizzicato form. the acid box is accompanied by stately pads making for one of the duos most memorable tracks yet. the next cut, danube nights, references the mighty, ancient river, the flow motion mirrored by a couple of widescreen acid lines. a pensive lead and some melancholy chords emerge, but the drums roll right along like the water- tough enough for a heaving floor with a hint of fragility for the headphones. the record concludes with the acidic prater allee, named after idyllic, sprawling park on the banks of the danube. the duos love letter to vienna is well-suited for travel, for the dance and for dreaming.

GEOMETRY (JOHN TEJADA / BEN HOO RMXS)
it is with great joy that we present the first kreattones release. for this first release we picked the talented robot love and his super sentimental track *geometry*. this track is a true masterpiece and reveals great attention to detail and construction, never forgetting the feeling and message. we count also with two outstanding remixes in our premiere. one by the unique john tejada, bringing back memories and transporting the listener into a whole new world, due to the gorgeous and complex melody that he created. and another by ben hoo, exploring the elements and turning the original track into a deep and hypnotic journey, full of content and emotion.

HERE EP (JOHN TEJADA / KUXXAN SUUM RMXS)
knox is the band brainchild of brother-sister duo nic and eliza coolidge. hailing from boston and new york, the siblings released their second ep, here, on december 3rd, and it is a big step forward for the band. formed less than two years ago, in march 2011, knox finds themselves working with the likes of john tejada and kuxxan suum on this release, and the outcome is stunning. here is five-song set full of ice and echoes. it runs as close to the third rail of impersonation, but flies away so quickly that knox sounds contextual and perfectly fresh. the influences from james blake is clear: the swooping, bomber bass and half-timey compressed dub beats, here could also easily be an inventive b-side to the latest how to dress well album. but, with the limited scale, interspersed remixes and foundling status in the scene, i would say it is likely a more impressive feat. the ep as a whole is desolate. expansive spaces filled with cold little beats and vocal washes, exploring in the course of five songs an icescape aesthetic with a sense of place usually reserved for full-length albums. the remixes blend so seamlessly that i didnt even realize they were during my first, casual listen.

JON VOIGHT (JOHN TEJADA REMIX)
after having blessed the world with >soarex< released on our sublabel irr (international records recordings), including a remix by ada, we would now like to welcome von spar to areal. and this time, the remix comes from no other than techno legend john tejada. with >jon voight<, the hamburg-based artists have created another epic masterpiece in line with their earlier electronic tracks: great emotions, melodies you will never forget... in other words: a track that will send something of a shiver down your spine. tejada, of austrian decent now living in the united states, shows full respect for the original version and comes up with a remix that has proven immensely effective on the dancefloor. it so effective that we still find ourselves awestruck in the studio. well, in the meantime, we have to admit that we went out to one or two parties, but only to find ourselves back in the studio again, still awestruck.
PULSE LOCKER EP
pulse locker refers to the analog method of synching analog modular instruments and drum machines, a method of working john tejada & josh humphrey have embraced to generate their trademark sounds and grooves. preferring to work away from the computer as much as possible, john and josh have adapted a more old school approach to their work, syncing analog gear together, not from a computer, but the way it was synced back in the day. the results are a tight, organic analog sound showcased particularly by the 2nd track >bifur gates<. with a tr-808 as master clock, syncing the modular system, the sound takes you back to the mid 90s era of techno. real 808 beats, punchy bass and an ever so shifting classic chord line will leave you lingering for the days of old. on the a side, >pulse locker< with its big and warm groove, gets things moving with a blend of house and techno. rounding out the ep, >unanimous arc< showcases the mad acid sounds possible on the sh-101 while modular chords elevate the track to a manic pace. >pulse locker< marks the duos third collaboration on palette recordings.
FREAK ON (JOHN TEJADA & KYODAI REMIX)
freak on opens the release, and with a nod to funk and soul incorporated through wah-wah guitar licks, bright piano chords and a modulating electro bass.
bitter sweat is up next, employing a grittier more modern mold with a hooky electronic bass, an amalgamation of vocal chops, and disco house chords driving the track.
kyodais remix of freak on follows and the berlin based spanish duo deliver yet another enthralling piece of music, its not often heard in this day and age but kyodai have managed to give a nod to the 40s musical era with style and precision, here in modern-day house music.
electronic music veteran john tejada closes the release with a stellar rework of >bitter sweat< gleaming with analogue sparkles with a dubbed out house feel with background delays and reverb tails building a deep-set atmosphere.
