the idea behind the release was conceived when digging for records through paris while touring a couple of years ago during a conversation with a vinyl monger discussing 70’s pop-funk pakistani composers.
since the inspiration as well as the records sampled for both of the tracks were picked up from the “city of lights” it seemed only appropriate for mononome to finally collaborate with parisian label and long-time friends stillmuzik for a release.
“loralai” evolves around a feel-good uptempo groove emphasizing on the sample while “besima” is based mainly on mononome’s characteristic drum sounds, leaving an essence of psychedelia in the background.

well, this is different… fourth kind the self titled mini album on omniverse records. it’s hard to pinpoint a genre with records like this, produced by marc mac of 4hero and similar to some of the 4hero output, it defies genre and fits somewhere in-between many. the production is heavily reliant on synthesisers and vintage drum machines in places but is full of real life and organic movements, this is partly down to the signature drums played by luke parkhouse. the only other guest spot is filled by nu jazz funker pascal strauss aka luman child who plays bass guitar on “take me to your sky” which along with “afterglows” are the closest we get to dance tracks, in most parts a 70s fusion feel is present. the short interlude type tracks are just as important and i would go as far as to say vital to telling the story. moogs, arps and solina strings weave patterns throughout, all in all, across the 10 tracks the album is a journey of mood and emotions. 180g pressing.

rob belleville is a producer from the netherlands. his music can be found in the same space as producers such as arne weinberg, microworld, sean deason and drivetrain. he is know for moving between ambient electronica and atmospheric techno sounds, always warm and well produced. this release is no different, as here we have two very special tracks with the same integrity as anything rob has written in the past. on the a side we ve got implacable force which features a driving techno foundation and washy synths, interwoven for perfect headspace. the second track in is sungazing, which takes you into a more lazy groove with swirling, warm pads and more good drum programming. the b side features rise n shine and sands of time, both blurring the line between deep house and techno, with a fine balance between the melodic textures and tech house percussion. if you like atmospheric, melodic textures and quality music in general, this one is for you.

mihigh & lizz teamed up, creating a clearly defined narrative on the launch of the 12-inches melodrom label, where the close, sometimes ambiguous details are incredible. the ep is loaded with the style of both producers: it combines mihigh’s minimalist sound with a strong attention to stylistic details and lizz’s trademark groove.

!!! 2018 repress !!! of nu guinea’s outstanding ‘world’ ep – the neapolitan duo is set to release new material on tartelet later in the year as part of the labels 10 th anniversary. the beautifully dislocated bougainvilles live lays out some warm analogue textures across a live percussion base, while the vocal edit of title track nu world ploughs a similar furrow to obscure 80’s afro-disco, with rich musical synth work over a pacey afro groove and undeniable jazz-funk flair. the flute mix passes over the vocal refrain from mix one and just gets down and wigs-out on those solos - an absolute killer! exotica dance club sounds like herbie visited the salsoul studios with his banks of analogue gear and jammed out into the small hours, as we head home on the beatless outro, all synth washes and lavish ear candy.

following hivers excellent ep, let recordings again welcomes american dj and producer jon hester to their imprint. currently based in berlin but with previous spells in chicago and minneapolis, he returns to the label for a second ep following 2017s communication ep, and other outings on the likes of rekids and dystopian. his adventurous drum programming and high speed techno style kicks things off with radiance, a manically melodic track that takes you on an energetic trip. impermanence is a deeper, more cinematic piece that features rueful pads but still a driving drum line, then stratospheric has huge, hammering kick drums and squelchy synth sounds as well as dancing keys that bring warmth, groove, and soul. last of all, this high class excursion is completed with horizon, delivering barreling drum patterns and edgy pads that trap you in suspense as it races on. all four tracks deliver a high impact techno sound that very much looks to the future.
