honey dijon has been part of the classic dna since day dot. a long-time friend to both derrick carter and luke solomon, honey has produced, remixed, dj’d and partied for and with classic for many years. although previously compiling a compilation for classic she has surprisingly never had her own release on the label. 2015 see’s honey releasing two separate eps on classic with both ‘’thundah’ and ‘burn’ being inspired by the classic 90’s nyc house music sound and produced in homage to honey’s friend frankie knuckles. the ep’s come backed with remixes from hnny, luke solomon, terrence parker and mark brydon all adding their own distinct flavour to honey’s concoctions. this exclusive double header vinyl ep release gives just a taste of what to expect
this four track remix sampler follows up the debut release from chicagos very own shaun j. wright & alinka, sent directly to derrick carter with classic specifically in mind and immediately snapped up.
its the idea of doing an analogue only version of peoples interpretations of songs that they chose off of the album. so i approached four of my favourite producers of the moment that i felt fitted with the whole project. luke solomon

young cody currie makes his debut on classic with this sparkling star-strung 4-part 12 ep, ode to eddy. following covetable releases on razor-n-tape, pulse records and better listen, the budding london dj and producer demonstrates his deep and jazzy style in this release, expanding on his usual creative use of sampling by introducing his own vocals and live keys. the title track has echoes of fellow classic artist folamour, blissed-out synths and syncopated drum work creating an irresistible lilting beat. i dont feel has hints of acidity, never alone loops the vocal over a shuffling melodic groove and tale of tales (memoirs of a super freak) is the uplifting finisher. ode to eddy is a supremely promising introduction to an intuitive and gifted new artist.
classic presents re-interpretations 1, the exquisite remix package of tracks from folamours blissed-out umami album, available on 12inch vinyl. session victim introduce a fiercer beat to their devoted to u remix preserving the delicate strings and its progressive style. next up, fellow classic contributor thatmanmonkz pumps up the tempo and lays down heavy percussion in his 8 minutes of funk remix. afrobeat producer austin ato weaves in his influences on ivoire with soft drumming, slow saxophones and a disco-inflected bassline amid echoes of vocal from nigerian singer kio amachree. alabaman byron the aquarius sprinkles a little of his jazz-house sound on look at me or ill steal your eyes ending a truly mesmeric release.
croatian producer ilija rudman returns to classic with his funk-drenched ‘lovers change minds’. well-known for his distinctive analogue-disco sound, the record’s delivery on 12” vinyl comes as a perfect pairing. he remains reverent to his well-rounded retro style with heavily filtered soft vocals complimented by a deep 70s-centric bassline. hot toddy’s bass-focused mixes come laden with electric guitar riffs and synth flares for an even slicker groove on ilija’s smoothly minimalist masterpiece.
luke solomon’s much-loved classic groover ‘light you up’ gets a 12” vinyl release as well as the louie vega treatment on this double-sided package. the title track features the poetic talents of queen rose alongside disco cohort amy douglas and comes accompanied by the accapella. nyc maestro louie works his magic on the track with his boogie-inflicted mix featuring jazzy synths. a killer package ready to light up the dancefloors everywhere.

sophie lloyd produced calling out in a dreary january as an antidote to the pervading doom and gloom of the news, summoning the power of the most joy-filled sound of all, gospel. the track radiates all the live atmosphere of gospel worship in mid flow, with soul trio dames brown bringing the authenticity. following the 7” release, which sold out due to huge demand, comes the 12” complete with the original version plus two brand new mixes from floorplan. the duo of detroit techno pioneer robert hood and his daughter lyric hood are well known for their gospel-infused sound with hood’s hometown influences always apparent. their club mix opens with a heavily swinging groove which breaks down into pure 4/4 indulgence, while the revival mix singles out the looped piano and organ riffs. putting their assertive spin on this new classic anthem, floorplan turn up the levels on calling out, bathing it in further glory.
setting out to make some happy music, sophie lloyd produced calling out in a dreary january as an antidote to the pervading doom and gloom of the news, summoning the power of the most joy-filled sound of all, gospel. this no-holds-barred anthem radiates all the live atmosphere of gospel worship in mid flow, with full instrumentation, keyboard breaks and understated kick drum pulling it all together. bringing in the uplifting voices of soul trio dames brown to re-record some old gospel samples was the icing on the cake, adding the last element of authenticity. a new member of the classic family, sophie lloyds impeccable knowledge of disco, soul and house shines through in this sparkling record, available on 7inch for the very first time.
just over a year on since he released his stunning lp happiness on classic music company, eli escobar returns to the label with an album which couldnt be further removed in sentiment. whereas happiness radiated sublime house/disco hybrid bliss throughout, shout is a heartfelt rage against americas developing political disasters.

TRUELIGHT EP (INCL. HOT TODDY & RON BASEJAM REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK27.06.17
after seven albums and almost two decades of blessing us discerning musical folk with the very best in disco and house that the uk has to offer, the stars have aligned and crazy p has collided with classic in the outer hemispheres of sonic glory. truelight ep demonstrates fully the unique and superior disco/house hybrid sound that has carved crazy ps legend into the bedrock of both those beloved genres. one true light provides cosmic clusters of subtle beats that sparkle and shimmer, with plenty of that well-versed groove that seems so effortless to the crazy p crew.in my hands follows some darker twists with a haunting crunching bassline and organ stabs. topping it all off are remixes of both tracks, one by crazy p member hot toddy aka chris todd, drawing on that memorable snaking bottom line and amping up the production with echoes of donna summer seduction. keeping it firmly within the camp, co-founder ron basejam remixes one true light, taking the tempo down to create lush, psychedelic soundscapes. theres no doubt, crazy p are stronger and more relevant than ever.
HAPPY AGAIN (KON, SOULPHICTION & YAM WHO? REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK09.05.17
when it was released in the summer of 2016, eli escobars happiness blew people away with its sophisticated house/disco hybrid sound and striking urban landscape. critics were falling over themselves to hyperbolise over elis exquisite synth stabs while the coveted double lp continues to sell through to this day. the quintessential new york dj, eli’s happiness stomped through the streets of his city, stopping off along the way at the jumping brooklyn basement clubs and dusty record shops that he frequents. some months later, developing on those themes seemed like the most natural thing to do, hands flew up across the board for remixing duties and assembling the extended classic family to contribute was an easy, nay joyful, task. happy again was born, giving the album a fresh new suit of clothes. re-works from kon, soulphiction and yam who? alongside bonus versions of tracks from the original album makes this the ultimate vinyl bumper pack
chances are if you have a body, a pair of ears and access to some kind of listening device, you’ve at least tapped a foot to ‘shine’ from soul clap and nona hendryx. pure authenticity and vocal integrity is provided in bucket loads by nona (ex-labelle member and purveyor of funk for more than 40 years), while the production maintains soul clap’s sublime freshness. increasing your marimba intake by 200% with two additional versions, hot toddy gives exotic plushness with a diversified rhythm section and melodic bottom lines that lightly entwine, shimmering in the light of nonas voice. scott grooves brings the funk, with an upfront bassline and extra jb-style horns on his horns dub, while the deepah dub takes a housier approach while still keeping the horn stabs. scott finishes off with an echopella of nonas vocals recorded from the international space station. this remix package is everything you would want, and then some.
a bastion of magnetic style and mixing board finesse, honey dijon continues to exceed her bounds, pushing through from the underground of new york to become a cultural, global star. her classic follow-up to houze with seven david jnr, the provocative personal slave is unapologetic, hedonist and achingly cool. honey has teamed up with charles duff aka charles mccloud, who lends his seductively sulky tones for the vocal on the record. murky and mechanical, cowbell dinks and a percussive breakdown lift the mood, keeping the tracks feet firmly in the house bracket. consistently, honey’s productions piece together her familiar chicago jack with a contemporary new york edge. this track goes further in exploring that hybrid style, delivered with honeys signature lushness. a strong force in the us techno scene under his matrixxman moniker, charles duff appears again for remix duties on the dungeon dub, which as the name suggests is profoundly dark and moody, resonating highly with his regular slots at berghain. the drum machine mix hones in on the percussive work, playing with a visceral, hypnotic vibe that is so potent its almost dangerous. if this release is any indication of honeys intentions for this year, 2017 will see honey continue her ascension as a music icon.
WONKY BASSLINE DISCO BANGER (KINK & LEOPARD EATS LUKE REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK14.12.16
strong contender for dance record of the year- red rack’em’s incredibly wonderful and fantastically wonky, disco banger, was rereleased on classic this year. after a few months of slowly embedding itself in people subconscious, it returns with new mixes. first up in the marvellously talented kink - strahil is no stranger to classic, having made a stamp on the label many years ago with his remix 3rd face. he s gone from strength to strength with his productions which have been accompanied by his glorious live performances. kink goes in, heads down with some proper techno wonk. this is indeed a beast. on the flip luke solomon joins forces with bristol’s very own eats everything and lord leopard, creating a bristol “circle of three.” the luke eats leopard edit adds a slight bit of conformity to the drums and the arrangement, without taking out too much of the wonk but taking it ever so slightly into “house “ territory. overall this is a monstrously wonky package - and just in time for xmas too.
its been a couple of years since classic released an original artist album, the last one being luke solomons critically praised timelines. this time round classic brings a relative newcomer into the fold. eli escobar has slowly been building a credible reputation out of his home in new york, releasing his first single back in the late nineties and moving more recently from hip hop into dance music. as a dj, he harks back to a golden era of disco and early house music, graduating through the 90s during which he was brought up on a diet of underground house including classics early output. in recent years classics head was turned by his wonderful album up all night that was released on night people, a label from new york that eli (pronounced el-ee) has a vested interest in. following up the album with a series of singles, the label swiftly became a cult dance classi
heralding from brighton, married (production) couple sam and tracy presented classic with some music classic was very familiar with. not only is sam a member of the legendary gramme, but has also featured on a number of past luke solomon originals for classic…so are already part of the extended family. classic immediately warmed to the music and the music already felt at home. looking for the right remixer begun - classic played the tracks to long-time member of crazy p - a certain mr basejam and immediately leapt to them and remixed not one – but both of the records on the ep as he loved them both so much. the result is a meeting of minds sounds and words.

12" Vinyl UK21.01.15
the third 12 inch sampler taken from lukes unfinished business compilation series, this time featuring a lost dub of the nails classic hurt u featured as part of the kittens single back in the year 2000. nail is enjoying a fantastic and deserved renaissance at the moment and will felt it was high time let this baby loose. this is followed by another lost gem from the wonderful tak label. the last unfinished business compilation featured the timedwellers and now it’s time for collis king, look out for some unreleased gems to be featured on an ep from classic later this year. number 3 is the tripped out vocal classic from sandee - given some modern day remastering business a record that has proven to be totally timeless - and a stalwart at luke and kenny hawkes legendary space nights at bar rumba. and finally - lukes very own stop the riot - the first single he recorded with sam lynham from gramme championed by the likes of skream on radio one and nemone on 6 music - we felt the single deserved its very own place on vinyl.
unfinished business is the latest step for luke solomon, a mix album for his kaleidoscopic talents that gives him the chance to highlight what is still the bedrock of his extraordinary career: being behind the turntables and digging out those records you really should be listening to but might have missed in the avalanche of background noise. this handpicked four track sampler highlights some of the exclusive vinyl only releases from the forthcoming compilation.
classic is incredibly pleased to announce that a certain man of the moment has joined the classic family. *one* was brought to the attention of classic when it featured on vinyl only release late last year. ears pricked up and more information was sought. who was this man from nowhere - producing music that was modern yet soulful, funky - and best of all coupled with his own vocal talents. luke solomon then championed not only *one*, but the general excitement surrounding something that ticked all of his boxes. reminiscent of the old classic sound that reminded him of iz and diz, losoul and the like… seven was approached and not only offered classic *one* to re-release, but two brand new cuts featured exclusively here. an ep aptly entitled *friends* is the freshest thing that has been around for some time - and classic are proud to welcome seven into their ever expanding family.
JUNGLE LINE (DUNGEON MEAT & EATS EVERYTHING REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK20.06.14
a re-issue from the classic stable. this time a little something from early 90s chicago - written by mystic bill and carl giamerese the record was a staple part of luke solomon and kenny hawkes dj sets throughout the girls fm and bar rumba / space years.
confidently striding into his third musical decade, luke solomons influence stretches far and wide across a scene that has been embedded in his dna since the early 90s. now harnessing that wealth of experience and unmatched passion for music, solomon presents his next undertaking, positioning himself as the dj/shop assistant/curator you always dreamt about
the latest musical addition to the classic family is mr. dan beaumont. integral in the birth of disco bloodbath, paris acid ball, macho city and setting up the london basement rave institutions dance tunnel and dalston superstore, dan wowed lukes heart a year ago after sending him this throwback, move forward disco, hi - energy, house stomper.
as a long time label ally, it seems ridiculous that matthew styles hasnt previously had a release out on classic. previously releasing on like minded imprints such as running back, ostgut ton, bpitch and turning mix albums for crosstown rebels. classic are proud to initiate matthew back into the family with this new three track ep.
a double ep release from the classic music company, mixing together friends old and new from the label. recent signings to classic, no dial tone deliver their second original production to the imprint - standing still – a deep slow burning almost bjork-esq vocal record kicks off the a side. long time label cohort from the early bar rumba days, mathew herbert twists and turns the record into something completely herbert and ultimately classic in its make up. on the flip…long-time greenskeepers man james curd returns to classic with nothing short of a bump! gentle help is typical curd funk and now with added black madonna flavours. road tested relentlessly at the smart bar, the chicago native channels the essence of old dance mania records and funnels it into something typically a little left of centre. each track is uniquely different and recognisably classic.
two original classic members return too classic with an adventure into the world of disco deviance. tim kvasnosky (co-writer with tim shumaker from home and garden fame) and jt donaldson (undercover agency) joining forces here, utilising their wealth of musical knowledge and inspiration to make something that melds the likes of wally badarou, the system and maurice fulton.
it was his signature and his sound, and if there is one record that both derrick and myself couldn t be more honoured to re-release as a testament to his legacy, a record that defined kenny as a dj, and a record that keeps that light shining, then it s this one. viva the dark lord.
wonder & amazement is a record ive had in various forms and incarnations from ex chicken lips members steve kotey & andy meecham for about a year now – a song that immediately grabbed me from the very first moment i heard it. reminiscent of days gone by mixed with a touch of the new - a song that contains a mixture of both the old classic and the new classic. ive been championing it for a while now either in sets or charts, even including it on a recent compilation i did. a record that we are proud to be able to use as a soundtrack to this new era of classic.
the classic music company by luke solomon & derrick carter continue to play the game under their own conditions. as a label it never died it just retreated for a while in order to come back stronger. all hail the king because the king is back. long live classic!
a bad ass funk driven call to arms that sounds like a mix of greens keepers & derrick. on the flip you ll find 'loosen your collar' a killer wobbly, boompity tune with infectious vocalsand freaked out bouncy synth & bass parts. finally we have the r n b tinged 'shame' a soulful yet bittersweet ditty
this dope, phuturistic off-beat cut from the album already became a hit with loads of westcoast djs in its original form and now gets re-shaped into a p-funkish 4/4 groover by the schwarz brothers themselves. on the flip freaks luke solomon gets down with nathan haines who blows some sweet flute notes over a tight house groove
