one plus one/indecisive is the 7inch release from the debut ep by melbourne band the do yo thangs a collection of sensual slow jams and bumping future soul dominated by rich, four-voice harmonies. one plus one is equal parts performance and programming, drawing from a broad palette of live instruments and electronic sounds. at the front, hugh and audrey alternate lead vocal duties, supported by harmony singers maddie otto and tiaryn griggs. backing them, the guitar sound is classic soul but the plethora of synthesizers and 808 kick drums is definitely not, nodding equally to vangelis or hiatus kaiyote. the more you listen, the more intricacy is discovered. the writing uses jazz elements and odd rhythmic devices, but it s all tucked away - theres nothing that intrudes into the foreground or interferes with the song s abilities to speak to an audience

the last 12 months have been a boon for fans of luke vibert, with the veteran cornishman delivering a killer acid album for hypercolour, and a slick, melodious set of disco-inspired jams under his kerrier district alias. here he returns to regular home planet mu with another typically entertaining set inspired by classic british electronic music. utilising his battery of vintage music-making machines, vibert giddily doffs a cap to early 90s intelligent techno, rave-era hardcore, bleep, chicago acid and braindance, occasionally veering off track via easy listening inspired future jazz, wagon christ style hip-hop head-nodders (the title track, which doffs a cap to a forgotten, mid-90s remix he did for ninja tune) and squidgy, synth-propelled mutant electrofunk.

for the next instalment of our mix series, weve arranged a special mix from a duo which we have shared close ties with for the last five years, having them regularly at the club as well as a couple of our infamous open airs at rummelsburg in berlin. hailing from the usa, the stateside duo soul clap have been at the forefront of the dance music scene for over half a decade now and are well known for their blend of funk and soul to house, techno and everything in between. from peak time sets on the main floor to sun soaked closing sets on the water floor, the pair of bostonians, eli goldstein and charles levine, are a djs dj.
