the long awaited first release of stavroz on denature records has arrived! this 5-track ep starts with -zorrow-. this track sounds like an invitation to wander and get lost in the jungle. by the second track, perron 11 the tempo gets more vigorous opening the way to the main track kasambila and its enchanting ethnic vibes, on the other side of the ep, xs pls (pronounce it extra small please) has this unique instrumental groove that four-piece band masters so well. the ep ends with the title it was all a ruse , a melancholic ballad through mystical lands.

a young french artist based out of paris from corsica, it is from behind her drumkit that charlotte debuts in music. with her first ep, she plunges us in her music s universe. her first track, 777, eponym of the vinyl, along with largo, reflects her melancholiac side combined with an acoustic breakbeat rhythm borrowed from her 90 s influenced. the other tracks, mela & saint marc, show her love for a brutal dancefloor with acid wave inspirations.

you got the stuff is not lovely day - that much is true. this ones a wigged out, extended, trip into deep space from 1978 that is truly baffling. of course, it features bill singing for the first half of the track but then all of a sudden we re launched into a cosmic wormhole as everything just falls back and the track is stripped of any earthly qualities. people find themselves asking this, this is bill withers? as lazer guided synths and rock solid drums pull us into the sonic vortex. truly amazing. obviously a nugget like this has not gone unnoticed and has been edited and chopped and sampled deftly by the more sarcastic, left-field oriented crate diggers out there but it has never been reissued legitimately - until now! a hugely sought after and collectible gem right here, backed with the wistful slow jam look to each other for love as per the original 1978 columbia promo 12inch version. this left-field, cosmic classic has been legally reissued by above board distribution in conjunction with the legal rights holders sony music entertainment. this high quality repress features original columbia pink label disco 12inch artwork and has been remastered from sonys original sources by optimum mastering, bristol uk.

united through friendship, music and a love of wine, jubei and marcus intalex made these tracks over the course of two meetings in manchester. they found that their ideas nearly always complimented each other resulting in music that reflected both of their personalities, ensuring that marcus’ talent, creativity and humour lives on.

after previously releasing starship commander woooo woooos mastership lp, left ear records have continued excavating the archives of the artist more formally known as omer coleman jr. the result is two handpicked mid 80’s instrumentals salvaged from the original master tapes, as well as an extended vocal edit on the flip for good measure. after laying his alter ego to rest omer made a handful of electronic releases on his own kansas based remo label. of these releases left ear has selected their two favourite instrumentals: lovin babe sure is fun and so good. lovin babe sure is fun was originally released in 85 and was created to celebrate a time in america where the economy was good, people were happy and love was in the air, the essence of which omer captured using his roland 808 and 303 in what may best be described as acid-boogie. so good on the other hand is a sensual downtempo cut shaped with heavy-bass, telephone samples and guitar solos that conjures images of late night rendezvous and compromising scenarios.

dj rou & lite orkestra proves to be one of those original, eclectic and interesting projects for the musical research of the current scene. they got to know each other in the summer of 2014 and a character affinity was born immediately, later transformed into a very strong artistic empathy, so much so that in the immediate future they decided to meet often between bologna and verona for jam sessions, sharing ideas. in the summer of 2017, cognitiva records, label runned by sofatalk, became aware of the project and decided without hesitating to press 1.2,3, original tracks of the release “the ambassador’s way ep”. the compositions are a combination of the electronic drums of dj rou (mpc, korg electribe and other gears), the contrabass and the guitar of lachi + thomaspizzini, better known as lite orkestra. the result is a hybrid exuberance between jazz, afro and the experimental flow that derives from the roots of the jam sessions

heady, astute, deep techno and ambient from blue veil, a new musical project from danny clancy. blue veils debut ep reveals gorgeously textured techno on tracks like wherethetimegoes and citizen score, as well as crafting some tender ambient passages on cuts like night czar and a kind of adventure. the ep will be released on dichotomy records, a new imprint, dedicated to refined electronic music. the labels ambition is to allow artists to explore dichotomies through their work, as they span sonic landscapes from pure ambient to techno, and other abstract dance sounds in-between. there will be a strong attention to the visual presentation of the label, with all artwork and photography also created by label boss danny clancy. with the next release lined up from ahu, and more to follow from there, the agenda for dichotomy records looks hugely promising indeed.

hightime inc. is the unit of the two guys “dj tasaka + j.a.k.a.m. (juzu a.k.a. moochy)”who know each other since teenage in tokyo. they have been on their individual career on the different fields. in 2017 they dropped their 1st album “alchemsit now!”which includes various musical influences as hiphop,house,techno,jungle,world music etc.. and it does not belong to any of them. their miscellaneous blended dj set with their own tracks explodes vibrantly as a fundamental passion for the dance floor.

never released before on lp, here comes the complete original soundtracks of french cult film composer françois de roubaix for director yves boisset. two movies that embody the two sides of francois de roubaix’s approach to recording. for le saut de l’ange (1971), the self-taught composer wrote an orchestration for some fifty musicians playing strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion with two distinct solo instruments alternating the main theme: indian sitar on the one hand and accordion on the other. r.a.s (1973) was recorded on a 8-track tape recorder, in françois de roubaix’s home studio rue de courcelle, where most of his 70’s scores were recorded. the result is a mix of military-march rhythms, rolls on the snare-drum with sounds of synthi aks syntheziser: de roubaix invented a modern sound for this contemporary-history tragedy.

seven davis jr proved once again he s one of the brightest lights in authentic soul-soaked deep house with attitude when he released love from the other side back in 2016. now he s pulled together a strong cast of cats to offer up remixes of key album tracks, with scintillating results. davis jr s heady atmosphere is maintained in all of the versions, from marcel vogel s funky broken beat treatment on -99 candles- to the woozy bump of the teflon dons version of -this weekend-. watch out for the tracky heat of coflo s remix of -me like you- as well - just the kind of lean, mean, sexy jam that will get bodies heaving in the right party spot.

an astronomical conjunction has cropped up. arpanet is back after a long interstellar hibernation and 30drop comes up with its particular vision of the abstract elektro for the very first time. “phases ep” takes the primal warp’s heritage blending hypnotic melodies with rhythmically complex patterns. arpanet, which keeps the exquisiteness of its previous works for rephlex, among other labels, gazes into the black profoundness of its own and unique universe. 30drop’s two cuts, ostensibly touched by the aphex twin spirit, are a spellbinding exercise of style. “phases ep” is experimental, atmospheric, rhythmic and, above all, flawless. this enthralling ep is presented in electric blue vinyl. a special shape for a very special alliance.

evod music is glad to welcome binny and dj surgeles on its limited catalogue. the english dancefloor killer and the dutch sci-fi master fused perfectly together on this split ep. organic by binny is a perfect tool, thanks to its mesmerizing acid sequence, masterfully fused with powerful drum patterns and hypnotic drone raids. missing link is another killer tool, perfect for a dance floor full of people. its old school sound and the various changes make this track a must have. the b side is managed by dj surgeles, with three outstanding sci-fi tracks. science fiction contains a randomic, spaced out sequence blended with heavy drums and various drum patterns variations. commander pete is the most millsesque track: in this piece there is a real space ambience, thanks to a its far pads, the electronic ringings and bleep sounds incursions that create a constant suspense, broken by the interruption from an astronaut radio message. the ep is closed by message to earth, an ambient outro that fits perfectly with all the other tracks.

duat (pronounced do-aht) was the realm of the dead in ancient egyptian mythology. the deity osiris was believed to be the lord of the underworld since he personified rebirth and life after death, being the first mummy as depicted in the osiris myth. the underworld was also the resi-dence of various other gods along with osiris. the duat was the region through which the sun god re traveled from west to east each night, and it was where he battled apep, who embodied the primordial chaos which the sun had to defeat in order to rise each morning and bring order back to the earth. it was also the place where people’s souls went after death for judgement, though that was not the full extent of the afterlife. burial chambers formed touching-points be-tween the mundane world and the duat, and the akh, the effectiveness of the dead, could use tombs to travel back and forth from the duat.

tikita welcomes neel for a first release in collaboration with label mainstays natural/electronic.system. the four tracks here cover deep, rolling, dubby tribal techno. the opener is sparse and dark, gracida is more urgent and alien with watery droplets and wet melodies, then sinistra is mind melting and loopy techno that takes you into the cosmos. last of all, percussiva has supple jeff mills style synths warping round each other as heavy drums pound below. it is brilliantly consuming techno from some of the best in the game.

hiele martens is the duo of roman hiele and lieven martens moana. lips is a musical story about a lord of castle daydreaming about his favorite fetish and other things. it has compositions created in the worm studio (rotterdam, netherlands) on the putney, arp 2500, serge et al combined with our own midi, voice and other techniques. in eight short songs, we sing the lords favors, whishes and fears.

dilated pupils is a collective group of likeminded friends home-based in the netherlands. when forces are joined in one of their many studios each individual brings his own influences and styles to the table. together they share a distinct flavor in productions and raw one-take jam sessions created with the use of analogue machines and often recorded on tape. each of them have their own solo productions as well as other collaborations, but when united as dilated pupils they prefer to be known jointly as one entity with their own unique and distinguished sound. since 2014 the group has developed an interesting and widespread discography with releases on labels such as fear of flying, sol asylum, mode of expression, tabla, music is art, dorcas, make sense and mayak.

7 inch single such as the record itself (alcazar), the second single chaos takes its influence from the golden age boom-bap era of hip-hop, that is smooth as velvet and helps transmit its message of social critique, love and hope. woxows message has been perfectly delivered by 2 great rappers, akil the mc from jurassic 5 (who doesnt need introduction) and blurum13 (well known for his works with dj vadim), while on the other side the chorus sang by the legendary ken boothe from jamaica it sounds like the icing on the cake, topping the tune with his soulful voice and a work songs feeling.

thom nagy, journalist and passionate musician, makes the ep -you don t know-, which we release digitally as well as vinyl, to something very special. two of the four tracks included on the ep, called -bloom- and -you don t know-, are due to him. the disc is refined with two remixes by dandara and arutani, who met each other through the basel-based label lokd. they created a wonderful remix of the track -you don t know-. last but not least, we can look forward to a remix of nagy s track -bloom- by madmotormiquel and fulltone.

joe powers is from edinburgh, far outside the network of the grime capital of london. his caffeinated productions as proc fiskal are faster than usual, with many clocking in at 160bpm. ‘the highland mob’, his 2017 debut ep, opened up his music to open-eared footwork and drum’n’bass fans as well as the grime crowd. after following that up with a jungle-inflected ep on cosmic bridge, ‘insula’ switches the feel and intention towards a personal, and melodic music with one foot in grime, infused with often comic, often wistful recorded moments from his environment. he says ‘i wanted to be aware of where the music is coming from, referencing things i’m presently experiencing, like making grime, my radar radio show, phone addiction, alcohol, my surroundings, girls, depression, positivity, being unemployed, being employed and hating it, my friends etc. trying to be true to myself instead of relying on other peoples’ nostalgia, and focusing on now.’ the record is a huge leap in vision, with delicate, pointillist melodies and intricate edits reminiscent of grime producers such as terror danjah. it also resonates with japanese video game music like that recently explored on the ‘diggin in the carts’ compilation. ‘i think i probably make tunes to get out emotions i don’t express in day-to-day life. i used clips of my friends talking, drunk folk, and general scottish life to preserve and represent what my experience is like right now, like a time capsule. social media notification sounds are designed to release serotonin, which is what i’d like my music to do, to make me, and other people happy, and in using these manipulative noises in a positive way, i like to think i’m taking back the power of the manipulation.’ proc fiskal is adventurous and thoughtful as a producer, and at the young age of 21, his debut album is very advanced in its ideas and execution

insula records returns to the shelves with a brand new ep by 3kz, a unique collaboration between the gifted italian producers z.i.p.p.o. & kaelan. the record lifts off with outta here , a journey into other heights with glissandi melodies rising over arpeggiating sequences to a solid driving techno track that is functional, spot-on material for the floors. this side is complemented with urban jungle , a clear-cut heady track with upfront drum programming that leads to a driving atmosphere. the b-side is something special and is fully covered with the 15-minute spanning title track d50 tears . this beautiful washed out ambient arrangement, full of emotion and soul, channels the mind to other places. a cinematic masterwork that shows the sophistication of 3kz in full depth

nils frahm, born in 1982, had an early introduction to music. during his childhood he was taught to play piano by nahum brodski – a student of the last scholar of tschaikowski. it was through this that nils began to immerse himself in the styles of the classical pianists before him as well as contemporary composers. today nils frahm works as an accomplished composer and producer in berlin. in early 2008 he founded durton studio, where he has worked with peter broderick and dustin o’halloran amongst other fellow musicians.
the three instrumentals, which make up his debut release wintermusik are piano led pieces, coloured with occasional celeste and reed organ parts. the record’s equal measures of sorrowful refrains and uplifting passages, combined with a real intimacy that makes for an album you’ll want to return to again and again. the songs were originally intended as a christmas present for friends and family, hence its winter release on erased tapes. the vinyl release includes a download code.

célia regina cruz recorded four self-titled albums for continental between 1971 and 1977, ‘amor’ in 1982 plus several more before she sadly passed away late in 2017. célia was a brazilian vocalist who worked frequently with master arranger-composer arthur verocai in her early years and many other heavyweights over the course of her extensive career.. this, her second self-titled lp from 1972, features an all-star line up including arthur verocai, erasmo carlos, roberto carlos, marcos valle, antonio carlos jobim, nonato buzar and vinicius de moraes amongst others. célia’s version of ‘na boca do sol’ – taken from this album – is arguably her most well-known and well-loved song. an incredible take on verocai’s original, featuring waling fuzz guitars, strings, piano, horns and drums.

the moscow duo is back with an other dose of hunted industrial techno punches. from a navy fit republic of love!

following some now cult releases on mutli culti, turbo recordings (with the much-acclaimed “mz”) and his recent lp “lotos land” on japanese imprint endless flight, our favourite east-berlin born child sascha funke is finally coming up with an ep on hippie dance’s sister label your and your hippie friends. “i guess more than one of you have noticed my obsession with sascha funke’s music over the past years since it is an essential part in my dj sets. after the pause he gave his solo work to put his attention into his amazing band project saschienne together with julienne dessagne (aka fantastic twins, also his partner in life), he came back with a really cool ep on kompakt records which i played over and over and left me wanting for more. being close friends gave me the luxury of having access to his material before other people and when i would visit the coolest couple in berlin, sascha would always play me his new tunes in the car while rolling through the city. every time i would ask for those tracks to play them and in the club, people that i would play with would often ask who was behind them, as it happened with tiga one night in cologne, and eventually led to sascha’s music being released on turbo recordings and multi culti the following months. now i finally got the chance and honour to release a sascha funke ep on our own humble label... acatenango. like every time, it all started with me visiting berlin, sascha playing his new material while cruising around on board of his german car, me getting in trance while listening to it, asking for it and playing it right away in my next sets. three super cool tracks, all very different from each other but somehow connected with the inimitable funke touch. powerful yet elegant, hypnotic yet fun, brutal yet sophisticated. sascha funke... he’s a hippie and he’s a friend.” rebolledo

first official reissue of the extremely rare full-length album by lagos-based bandleader shina williams. clean copies of the original currently sell for up to £500. the record was born in 1979 when shina put biddy wright, fred fisher, saliu alabi, prince bola, tutu shoronmu, tunde willimas and several other decorated nigerian musicians – who played with the likes of fela kuti, sjob movement, sonny okoson, king bucknor amongst others – together to record. the result is ‘african dances’, a timeless fusion of afrobeat, electronics, boogie and disco. includes his most well-known song, ‘agboju logun’ that williams knew was ground breaking – “i want to show the whole wide world that africa is alive with modern musicians to reckon with anywhere,”. this album version is a different mix to the two-track 12” that came out under on earthworks, rough trade in 1984. official mr bongo reissue. replica original artwork. licensed direct from shina williams.
