originally released in 1982, including tracks written for crosstalk (a science fiction thriller film made in australia) and other electronic themes, it was written, performed and recorded by chris neal in his home studio, using roland system 700 and roland mc8. in 1982 there were only a few system 700s ever produced and roland was more interested in promoting their more commercial system 100m (that s why it was credited on the 1982 original cover to give them a plug). the system 700 was developed by taro kakahashi and his team in japan as a direct challenger to the moog modular system. the orbeatize remastered reissue also includes a special bonus track remixed and produced in 2017 by jolly mare.

j. f. burma is a new analog synth project of jeremy berman, a longtime friend of the bunker who we met via the forums of i-f’s cybernetic broadcasting system internet radio station in the early 2000’s. while living in brooklyn, jeremy spent many hours each week searching for undiscovered gems among the piles of records (and sometimes rat skeletons) at notorious greenpoint crate-digging spot the thing. inspired and educated by the music he was finding, he purchased his first modular and started building synthesizers and modules in spite of his lack of training in electrical engineering. currently, about half of his current eurorack rig has been diy’ed via trial and error.

alpenglühen, the madrid-based monthly nights, focused in ambient techno, emerges in september,2014, inspired by the film -dogville- and the optical phenomenon happening when the last ray of sunshine slowly disappears over the mountains, now, with the moto -exploring the thin line between darkness and light-, alpenglühen, the label, is born, influenced by those sessions. the first installment is produced by the duo, pajaro dune. a young project formed by two well known talented producers from valencia, who gives us a promising kick off release. 4 highly crafted tracks which are somewhere between techno (in its deepest and atmospheric stage), contemporary music and impressionistic electronics. partially inspired on the research by konstantin batygin and michael e. brown on the evidence for a planet the size of uranus between 200 and 1000 au far away from the sun. the titles of the tracks are all but one real objects of our solar system whose movement is theoretically affected by the presence of a distant giant planet yet to be discovered.

comet traxx is the new label of swiss prolific producer mirko loko, best known for his musical output on cadenza, visionquest and memento records. this new imprint is focused on cosmic grooves, with the aim to release quality timeless material. the first release on the label is the stunning -twin bang- album by the label honchos, mirko loko, delivering a modern sophisticated record with a very classic feeling, rich of collaborations with heavyweight musicians as derrick may and ursula rucker. for the next chapters of these astral tales, we can expect a spontaneous organic blend of electronic genres joined with a galactic touch: releases are not going to come only by mirko himself, but from interesting newcomers, as well as veterans as guido schneider who is in scheduled on the second catalogue number.

drummer and music producer desmond mahoney is another of the unsung heroes of british reggae. born in jamaica, he moved to the uk in 1967 and began his professional career playing drums in a band called young ones from zion. he was a founding member of black slate when the group formed in 1974, played with them through their glory years and after running a sound system in north london for many years, returned to the fold when the group reformed a few years ago. his first foray in music production probably came during a brief period in toronto in 1978, working with a band called the ishan lions, but he was back in the uk in time for black slate’s breakthrough material, which brought them onto ensign in the uk, barclay in france and alligator in the usa. at the same time, he continued to arrange and produce for a number of british reggae artists operating in both the roots and lover’s rock modes, female duo nya & natty’s ‘one love stylee’ seemed to bridge the two styles quite successfully on this greatly sought-after 12-inch, first issued in 1981 on the s&g label, then based at a record shop in bow.

in 1988, on the eve of a two decade civil war, somalia s authoritarian ruler siad barre launched punishing air strikes on the north of the country, known today as somaliland, in response to agitations for independence. the bombing leveled the entire city. barre targeted radio hargeisa to prevent any kind of central communication system that could organize a resistance. with the attack imminent, a few brave radio operators and dedicated vanguards of somali culture knew the archives, containing over half a century of somali music had to be preserved. thousands upon thousands of cassette tapes and master reels were quickly removed from the soon-to-be targeted buildings. they were dispersed to neighboring countries like djibouti and ethiopia, and buried deep under the ground to withstand even the most powerful airstrikes.

d-operation drop is a 6-man crew from cesena, italy with a strong and growing catalog of sound system killers, from orthodox steppers to dubstep abstractions and strange hybrids of the two. recent releases on moonshine, artikal, and lion charge have cemented their position, and we are thrilled to invite them into the zamzam fold with two chunks of 140 weight. “warrior march” opens with a mesmerizing pad that immediately draws the unsuspecting into a unique soundworld and doesn’t let go til the runout groove. a smeared, chopping-block snare, deep subsonic rumblings, swung percussion, massed yet minimal horns make a darkly coiled track, menacing yet full of funk and movement. “sativa team” captivates just as deeply with fewer moving parts, loping drums and leaden percussion, churning bassline, chopped and glitched ja-voices and sound tape, and ominous, clipped horns that wobble with tape delay in a strange airless void. brooding yet cathartic, tripped out but fully physical, with both tunes d-operation drop display their total control over a restrained and powerful palette.

*landing on partial, from the man jah scoop is insurrection’ - a moody and militant organ-tinged melodic instrumental piece, which refreshingly features nothing but “real instruments”. so, think late 1970’s style with perhaps an unintentional nod towards jackie mittoo’s ayatolla’ *despite the brooding pace and nature of insurrection’, it drops heavy on sound system, especially the echo-laden dub version on the b-side. *so, jah scoop? who dat? jah scoop is in fact guy mcaffer aka geezer, the legendary techno producer and artist geezer of¬ raw and stay up forever fame. he’s also the keyboard player for festival-favourites back to the planet and guitarist with punk outfit dogshite. that’s who.

as noted on another release (see ropin), cornell campbell has enjoyed one of the longest-running careers of any jamaican singer, and he is blessed with a readily identifiable style too. he began his career for clement ‘sir coxsone’ dodd in 1956, when rhythm and blues held sway in jamaica, and later cut some ska songs for king edwards. he then passed through the sensations in the rock steady phase and worked as a solo singer at treasure isle, before returning to studio one with the eternals, scoring huge hits such as ‘stars’ and ‘queen of the minstrel’ as the 60s gave way to the 70s. his greatest phase of popularity was them brokered by hit-making producer bunny lee, who kept him on top right through the 1970s and into the 80s. the 1975 album dance in a greenwich farm was first issued on the grounation label in the uk. along with a re-working of ‘stars’ re-titled ‘the sun,’ a re-working of ‘queen of the minstrel’ as ‘girl of my dreams’ and the sound system opus that is the title track, the album has the boastful ‘conquering gorgon’ and a number of keenly-observed cover tunes, including a cut of the gaylads’ ‘no good girl,’ a version of the heptones’ ‘why did you leave me’ and a killer cut of the uniques’ ‘watch this sound’ (based on ‘for what it’s worth’ by buffalo springfield).

2012er deluxe lp edition des 1990er debuts auf silbernem vinyl mit neuem artwork! die schwedisch amerikanische arbeitsgemeinschaft von talisman war eine der wenigen bastionen ehrlichen melodic rocks, die es mit großartigen alben auch in den 90er jahren schaffte, die vom grunge und dem kollektiven abgesang der großen musiksender errichteten windmühlen des kontra- hard rock stimmungsbarometers zu bekämpfen. talisman waren herausragend und trotz ihrer großen klasse so unaufdringlich, extravagant und eigenständig. genau deshalb war die von marcel jacob gegründete band seit beginn ihrer tage in der lage ein großes spektrum an musikliebhabern von rock bis metal, von prog bis funk zu begeistern. mit einem ausnahmesänger und songwriter wie jeff scott soto (mit dem er gemeinsam das 85er malmsteen album marching out eingespielt hatte und der fast zeitgleich mit eyes für aufsehen im genre sorgte) in seinen reihen, standen jacob und seinem neuen baby in bereits den späten 80ern alle türen der kreativität offen, und spätestens im jahre 1990, als talisman ihr großartiges debüt mit und um den jahrhunderthit i’ll be waiting veröffentlichten, strahlte die band als einer der hellsten sterne am melodic rock firmament. brs were a uk house outfit who released between 2000-2008 on their own imprint friends & families & on many other labels including 2020 vision, cyclo & imperial dub - the group comprised of rob evans, ben vacara & mr mulatto (the 2x latter now members of the situation collective). lovin me was first released on a brs ep on imperial dub recordings back in 2000. in its original format the 12- included the original mix, dubtribe sound system remix and a bonus track bouncing. situationism are delighted to re-release the incredible full length dubtribe soundsystem remix again on limited vinyl. this remix became a classic, appearing on numerous compilations including groove armada s another late night and ministry of sounds chillout sessions 2004 to name but a few. included on this limited vinyl run will be 2x new remixes from italian deep house, motorbike duo harley & muscle & the also the lovely bittersuite, both delivering quality mixes. all brought to you in time for those long summer evenings!

with releases from lerosa, andy mac and piezo already under our belts, idle hands strides towards the summer with a transmission from a kindred spirit across the pond. area, sometimes known as m50, has been flying the flag for forward thinking electronic music in chicago for a long time. his radio shows on wnur have a distinctive quality one step to the side of the music his hometown is best known for, while his label kimochi sound has released incredible music from the likes of benjamin brunn, strategy and many more besides. as a producer area has been equally prolific since first emerging in 2007. from ethereal sound and steadfast to untilmyheartstops and sequencias, his various approaches to rhythm and texture are all bound together by a meditative quality that feels like a perfect fit for idle. on this single, both sides of the 12- continue the theme of dusty, dusky 4/4 area is most widely known for, locking on to a house groove while sporting the abstract atmosphere of techno. -rlgl- is an understated, emotional heater that uses looped up fragments as a counterpoint to the more lilting strings and static that bed the track. notice takes a more overtly melancholic approach with its lingering, heavily processed keys that drift in between a tough set of drums. theres a punch to the track that will translate beautifully to a big system, even as the melodics spell out a more intimate listening experience.
