nyc s legendary west end record label has contributed a fair few classics to the disco cannon and continues to influence dance music today with it s forward looking releases. when you touch me is no exception, recorded and released in the golden year of 1979 and featuring the breathy, sensual vocals of a young tanaa gardner who had previously worked as a backing vocalist for numerous other projects until the label released her (other) stone cold solo classic work that body the same year on 12-. both cuts featured on her self titled debut lp and boasted the combined production and studio talents of kenton nix, bob blank and of course - larry levan. now, that s a serious line-up to have behind the boards (& in the clubs!) and of course when you touch me was a classic with it s slow, elongated intro that calls to mind a sleazier version of donna summer s love hangover before launching into a full-on disco assault that you won t forget in a hurry! yes, the record surprises you, tanaa leads us into a false sense of a slow jam and then - boom - we re off! backed with the incredible instrumental version the 12- is repressed here in it s original 1979 glory, an essential classic that has stood the test of time for the last 30+ years & is now available again, remastered & repressed for 2017 in conjunction with west end records, nyc.

after releasing a string of quality eps for the likes of charlois, doppellschall and permanent vacation, amsterdam based artist dollkraut (pascal pinkert) confirmed in 2014 with his debut album schimanskis black lullabies on brandt brauer fricks imprint the gym. the dutch producers back with his sophomore lp due february 24th 2017 on dischi autunno new label founded by jennifer cardini and noura labbani. holy ghost people sees dollkraut delve deeper into his recognizable lo-fi and organic sound, inspired by old movie soundtracks, creating gritty atmospheres mixed with the purest of melodies. album opens with instant hit bonnie said, where pascals vocals magically merge with the darkest of bass lines. valium continues the journey, increasing the tempo but confirming the feeling of being in a lost sci-fi movie soundtrack. on oblivian, the rhythm slows down again, allowing us to dive even more in this twisted yet candid universe.

patrick vanos next installment on mos ferry takes you on a journey. industrealized ep is an adventure ride between techno and house with side trips into minimal or psychodelic areas. after his tape jam ep and the following remixes patrick did not sit back complacently. he mixed and compiled selected vibes, vol.5, was part of our mos ferry takeover boiler room in berlin and not to mention the long nights he spent in the studio for this release. the result is quality tunes right to the point.

toydrum are a duo who sneak into the consciousness. not for them the full frontal assault but, instead, a drip-feed of classy work that many may know without knowing. their hugely acclaimed work with the late singer-songwriter gavin clark lit up shane meadows’ ‘this is england ‘90’, their rework of john lennon’s ‘how do you sleep’ led noel gallagher to have them remix his high flying birds hit ‘in the heat of the moment’ (which, in turn, soundtracked last year’s epic ad for the latest ‘assassin’s creed’ game), and their soundtracks for films such as the recent tye sheridan-starring thriller ‘detour’ and alice lowe’s 2016 venice film festival opener, ‘prevenge’, have broadened their appeal further. toydrum’s signing to skint records is now announced and celebrated by ‘my eye on you (to reinvision)’, a collective interpretation of their work thus far, running the gamut from nick cave’s balladry to trentemøller’s drum & bass-tinted electronica.

sliding into french press lounge’s second 12” in a reasonably priced used car on rain-soaked tarmac is hollywood, fl producer saki. known for his famously crispy, nearly-obliterated sound and rude-dude attitude, saki pulls down the gain (and the sun shades) to provide four hazy coastal house tools fit to blast over the comm system above the lazy river, relying on a no-frills hardware setup (homie needs floppy discs to even play a track!) and a rough-and-ready live recording policy, complete with abrupt endings.

as much as, in modern days, it has become increasingly difficult to pin things down to a specific genre this release brings very defined genres but also a refreshing feature, a constant change of energy in one single track, and most importantly, it all comes with this modern feel to it which indicates it is the new generation rising making justice to what ultrastretch stands for, surfacing fresh and new talents. signed by austrian duo foehn & jerome. the a side is of the ep consists of the genius idea that it is a relatively simple track, however, with the feel that so much is happening, the type when you listen to a loop but one you can listen to forever and not get tired of it, always the best sign. a rolling and constant bassline makes it into a super fat and rounded dancefloor groover, while on top you have these fragments of chopped up vocal samples in and out creating a sense of confusion, a mind drilling element is then complemented by very loose and fine hihats floating around. on the b side starts with quirky minimal track with a galloping kick throughout, when the open hihats slam in with a vocal it quickly develops into a very happy and playful housy vibe and just when you are riding, the clap slams in now on a tighter hat sequence followed by the break and rebuilding, when it comes back however it adds another element changing the energy yet again, through introducing a synthline. the quirky frog sounding noises throughout certainly makes it a super witty track overall.

what initially started as idea for a dj-duo project quickly turned into a new production outlet for german producer david hanke. he is well known for his northern jazz, funk and afrofunk productions under various monikers ever since his first release back in 2008. the most recognized surely is his renegades of jazz-alias.
after starting to fully embrace the afrofunk vibe with his 2016-released renegades of jazz album moyo wangu as well as two dem juju poets singles in the same year it’s now about time to release “liberated thoughts” - the longplay debut for dem juju poets.
having spent an influential part of his childhood in arusha, tanzania and engrained the music of east africa, his sound combines these influences with modern, more club-orientated electronic afrofunk productions which defines the core sound of dem juju poets.
with “liberated thoughts” hanke refines his afrofunk vision for 2017 informed by his experience as a dj in venues all over europe which naturally led to a more floor functional production approach.

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

oscars blood is peter van hoesens tenth solo ep for his own time to express label. it features four new tracks, composed and refined in the producers berlin studio and properly tested during several shows in late 2016 and early 2017. both oscars blood and circumference 12 feature van hoesens take on driving and hypnotic techno. he applies a different approach to unit prep and theoretical terminal. both compositions take their cue from subtle yet vibrant percussive patterns, extending into blissful atmospheres.

jos & eli might seem unknown to many electronic music lovers but they have been releasing great music since 2013. they have been sending me music for a long time and i think we have spend about a year developing this first release on noir music, making sure it represented their debut on the label perfectly.
when you hear the adrenaline hunt release you will notice that the 2 guys from tel-aviv have developed into a great production team over the years and these 3 tracks included here are not only cleverly crafted for the deeper dancefloors but can also be enjoyed on home stereo’s.

fedbymachines has been active for almost a decade now, lurking in the undercurrents of netlabels and digital releases. now shipwrec shine the vinyl light of this shapeshifting musician, an artist who has ably turned his hand to a dizzying spread of styles. this skill is amply shown on his first wax release, relapse ep, where a glut of genres are fed into the machine. ambient. electronica. techno. electro. all are combined to create a textured sound, one of delicate strings, ghostly clicks and static. ochre closes the quintet with a remix, one that amplifies the organic nature of this absorbing encounter.

uk artists reset robot, jon gurd and tom powell collaborate again on their free-form hybrid electronica project- mister woo . following a series of under-the-radar eps, beyond light is the trio s debut album and most experimental and eclectic work so far. mister woo recorded beyond light in their portsmouth studio over three weeks in 2016, setting themselves to writing and recording tracks on-the fly and building an album around one-take, improvised performances. free to take its own form and direction from the outset, the result is a varied, unpredictable, high-energy record that pushes mister woo s distinct brand of electronica into new and unexplored places

gardens of god sodai imprint continues to unearth creative production talent from the label’s native city of vilnius with the third and latest artist from the city to feature on the label. introducing talassa barda for his debut introducing three expertly crafted techno cuts. lead track wolf has a howling big room sound effect and a dark techno underbelly. human with it’s haunting like qualities develops into a peak time monster that is sure to thunder in vast spaces over the summer. finally, bleed is a rolling acid tinged track that fuses electro, breakbeat and techno for possibly the most interesting of all three.

matuss takes techno and turns it on its head. the cybernetic sound has been filled with human emotion, giving it a more organic feel than much of the music that would fall under the genre. she opens her absence seizure 007 ep in trademark style, with a dark jacking cut entitled pitchureque, in which a pulsating bass line throbs alongside ominous acid swells and disorientating panning effects. next up, tektango takes a different route honing in on a set of live tribal tinged percussion, which sway and dissipate with hypnotic effect driven further into the depths with a bubbling synth lead and filtering atmospherics. this live percussion gives the track that organic feel mentioned earlier. escapade kick starts the b-side with a robust rhythm, built from the ground up with resonant hi hat stabs, echoing claps and sturdy kicks which forms the framework for a deranged lead melody laced with wide open synths and emotive chords to carry the groove. closing the package is fonque, where flanger-tinged snare rolls work in unison with driving rhythms, delicate arpeggios and an intricate 303 bass line to create an infectious closing cut.

in order to get lines of perspective moving, aufgang transcend their instrumentarium. from this organic corpus, they manage to extract a hand-stitched, deeply human kind of music. this exhilarating craft builds bridges between disciplines, skilfully pulling together acoustics and electronics while making bold connections between different eras. ancestral pianos are groovier than any sequencer, the synths they use are antediluvian and the drums are constantly oscillating between metal and skin. they may well be the first truly accomplished and unabashed explorers of the channel connecting various approaches which, so far, had at best only been piled up. aufgang transcend the confines of time to bring the past back into the future.

after his acclaimed heatwave and shadows mixtapes, leonce releases insurgency on fade to mind, the first official ep from the young atlanta-based producer. insurgency was born from demos and sketches first recorded in 2014-2015, inspired by leonce’s favorite elements of house music and his desire to recraft these influences into his own club microverse. in leonce’s words: “if house is a feeling, then insurgency is me subverting that feeling across different tempo ranges and going into weirder and darker territory, like the classic raw house tracks that inspired me.”

fleeting wax hits its third release with this bout of sinister, sleek disco for the darker dancefloor that finds bucharest-based duo valeriu borcos and eduard gabia getting remixed from a strong cast of characters. the ever prolific khidja is up first, turning -choose your colour gypsy dark- into a brooding, almost-rocking affair with an irresistible noirish tint to it. the label heads then get busy with a version that ups the arpeggios in a nod to italo amidst plenty of dubby fx, before mehmet aslan stretches out across the b-side with a more yearning version that lets a little light in on the situation. it s a diverse, potent bag of versions that do credit to the original while saying something new as well.

at a recent gig in macedonia, he played an incredible “live pure data” set, using real-time graphical data flow programming to create all his own sounds. with this huge wealth of knowledge and a hard drive stacked with unreleased productions, his ‘spookz ep’ is long overdue. he describes his music as industropical or funkyndustrial and when you hear his two original cuts on this ep, these descriptions become more apparent. ‘spookz’ is dappled and harmonious with sweeping electronics and in-depth grooves. ‘prance for me’ is atmospheric and quaking in its deliverance, showing all his innovation and creativity. the ep comes with two stellar remixes. the first is by el prevost who delivers a grinding reworking of ‘prance for me’. el prevost has been forging his sound over the last decade, gradually shifting into the house and techno scene in particular for uk label, third ear and his most recent self-run label, no speakers, which boasts a varied artist roster that includes doorly, red rack em, wbeeza, 65d mavericks and gabbi lopez. rommek’s remix of ‘spookz’ follows and shows why this recently emerging artist is fast becoming a definitive force on the techno scene. fellow loose lips collective member, rommek made his production debut on weekend circuit, before joining james ruskin’s iconic blueprint label who released his ‘moth hole ep’, plus an appearance on their 20th anniversary compilation, ‘structures and solutions’ gaining him an admirable reputation for textured sound designs.

pale blue is the new alias for mike simonetti, one of nycs most infamous underground producers, paired with the vocals of elizabeth wight. the duos seductive double sided ep comes home / have you walked through this night is remixed by breakthrough spanish producer pional on man power’s me me me label. have you passed through is raw and daring, its female vocal reminiscent of innovative early electro, this is a intoxicating late night anthem of leftfield electronica. its lyrics are taken from the film the thin red line, a movie about mans destruction of nature, his world and himself. come home is equally alluring with a dreamier narrative, and pionals remix is stripped back and effortless. for these two songs, the inspiration is coming out of the darkness that is inside all of us. it sounds heavy and overbearing, but dance music is the ideal music for escape. it fits perfectly into the pale blue agenda. this music was made for a small, dark crowded dance floors, with low ceilings and high hopes. humanity is bombarded with suffering and pain at every turn its almost like we thrive on it. but we deserve better. these two songs represent part of that struggle- moving towards the light. take your frustrations out on the dance floor. throw it all away for the night. the b-side is about coming out of darkness, coming home. finding euphoria in love and security in one another. feeling lost in the best way. pale blue

the latest release from serbia’s soul print recordings brings together the two l’s, leonid and laak. up first is leonid on the a side with two tracks urania 1 and 2, possibly named after the muse of astronomy, which makes sense, as both tracks have a cosmic feel about them. urania 1 starts off with a nice string sound that permeates the space before the drums start to really take effect half way through. urania 2 has a more house feel about it, with the acid bass line sitting nicely along the deep pads. over to the b side and laak takes control. delving into late night territory with haunting layered leads & pads these tracks are typical quality by laak. featuring label artwork once again by fellow serb, bratislav milenkovic and pressed on a beautiful sky blue, yesterday for tomorrow is a thing of aural and visual beauty.

informationstechno was released on cassette in 2014 via zeon light and it was nominated for best swedish dance album of the year at manifestgalan 2015. during 2015 the band received attention from swedish radio p2 and p3 and performed a series of gigs at home in stockholm. the second album informellt was released on lamour 2015 and a remix album called reformellt released early 2016. motormännen make information techno infused with an air of swedish nostalgia through a filter of retro-futuristic skepticism. the music is packed with minimal acid loops and samples with excerpts from swedish politicians, documentaries and christer glenning, reflecting on times when the cold war and the traditional welfare state were dissolving. inhibitions were relaxed and new, foreign influences crept into the body of society and the old information monopolies. motormännen s tracks are visually enhanced by messages from pictures and videos from the 1970s and 80s.

“devotion - part 3” is the final stage of the journey into the author’s sonic environment. the pace is initially fast and energetic, with “anathema” and “prostration” exploring different areas of the frequency spectrum through mysterious yet functional techno arrangements, which then lead us to the closing track of this whole excursion, “critical devotion”, a slow-motion uplifting anthem that brings us back to the surface.

cascades is the music collaboration between two montreal-based musicians, neo-classical pianist jean-michel blais, and genre-defying grammy award-nominated electronic producer mike silver (pka cfcf). building off their sold out performance during the globally-celebrated 2016 red bull music academy, cascades is a stunning 5-song, 30-minute meeting-of-minds that navigates the spaces between the artists’ respective crafts and tendencies toward playful minimalism. featuring new versions from the duo’s catalogues, a reworking of john cage’s “in a landscape”, and a brand new, classical-meets-trance original composition, “hypocrite”, cascades is a celebration of the traditional and experimental, dissolving the old into the new.

hidden behind the ritmico alias comes an unexpected studio collaboration from emi & suciu, premiering their first release at contur records. on side a we are welcomed by sticlic ritm, a 14 minutes kick led journey that proposes an elusive string of nostalgic pads, burried deep into the track’s dna. for side b, naiv ritm uses the sharp percussions to sneak its fluid groove, cleverly covert into the bassline, directly into our electronic souls. in line with previous contur releases, the ritmico signed ep meets our highest expectations.
