vinyl only, alex took his first musical steps by studying piano and guitar at the young age of 6. his fascination for the more outlandish, experimental side of each instrument corrupted his lessons and sent him down a modular synths and tape loop composition wormhole. years later alex resurfaced, got himself clean and, through connections made while spending time as a vocal audience member (and sometimes uninvited participant) at lyman woodard, phil ranelin, and other tribe- and motown-linked gigs in cass corridor during the mid-1970s, spent time as a session musician for earth wind and fire, chic, and prince. it was only toward the mid-90s he found himself enthralled by the techno and house sounds of detroit and chicago so he went into the woodshed and came out firing electronic salvos.

perc’s third album “bitter music” pushed his sound to further extremes than ever before when released in april of this year, winning widespread acclaim and launching a worldwide tour to support it. now the album returns with two eps of interpretations for a diverse selection of remixers most of whom are new to perc trax. this first ep of remixes takes in head front panel’s constantly building, pulsating version of deep album moment “the thought that counts”, hodge’s bristol meets london meets berlin stepping take on “chatter” and a screwfaced broken version of album opener “exit” by rising blackest ever black star pessimist.

in 1996 serotonin label heads selway and szostek went to moscow to perform at the invitation of &#1055,&#1058,&#1070,&#1063, magazine. synapse performed at the -waterclub- and met the legendary dj compass vrubell. they went to his -studio- where he had perfected the art of making entire tracks out patterns on the yamaha dx-5. szostek brought a dat of these jams back to nyc and schmer-003 dj rx-5 -a taste for crap- was released as a small run white label in 97. the run sold out and disappeared to be forgotten forever... until 2016 szostek casually mentions its existence to techno uber-nerd nina kraviz who just had to have it for her -fabric 91- cd. so dj rx-5 was back from the ash heap of history and schmer got a new release from him on schmer07. then schmer got the word out far and wide that they d like a remix ep for two of the originals: compass provided stems because like a miracle he still had the patterns after 20 years. heeding the call were pointsman, tripmastaz, steve stoll and schmer s own bpmf. so this is what you get: -a taste for remix-. it will leave your lips wanting more, for sure!

hailing from bristol, uk, borai is the progeny of the 90s jungle scene and has spent the last fifteen years careening his musical curiosity through every tile of the dance floor. borai s early years were occupied by bristol s many record shops as an employee and fan of the culture. while drenching himself in the expansiveness of electronic music history at work, he picked up djing to bestow his love for jungle, house and dancehall in the area s clubs. an obsession with hardware led borai to craft a slew of his own productions and releases on tasteful nudes, cahoots records, and brstl. with dark of the sun , borai is making his debut on the global cultural beacon halocyan records. the record will mark the 8th installment of the label s originary technicity series, which exemplifies techne in electronic music. dark of the sun is led by the rolling percussion of on the horizon , which feeds into the deep, grinding steam engine that is dark of the sun and followed by the transcendent bounce of wetware. the tracks are pressed on halocyan s signature 12inch cyan viny.

robert rental was the stage name of robert donnachie (1952?2000), a british pioneer of post-punk, diy, and industrial music. originally from port glasgow, scotland, he moved to the south of england with thomas leer in the late 1970s where he met glenn michael wallis. glenn was recording music with the group heute and leaving to start his solo projects nkvd and konstruktivists. both were heavily involved with throbbing gristle and the industrial records crew. in the summer of 1979, robert invited glenn to his studio in battersea to jam. robert on guitar and glenn on an edp wasp synthesizer. for each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. the music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. on these recordings, robert enjoyed playing like robert fripp of king crimson, while glenn channeled wolfgang flur of kraftwerk. influenced by krautrock bands like can, neu!, cluster/harmonia, as well as terry riley and brian eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of industrial music. tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the lp is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by robert rental from glenn?s archives as well as a handwritten note from robert to glenn. each copy includes 2 photo postcards featuring a transcription of robert?s letter and liner notes from glenn wallis.

having crept out of the tape undergrowth and respected haunts like clan destine and always human to earn more civilized recognition on bank records nyc and bliq, strahinja arbutina makes the move to vivod for yet more of that edgy, leftfield techno business that keeps mothers awake at night from worry. the grit, noise and distortion has been faithfully carried through from the cassette-based roots of arbutinas sound, but these tracks are more than ready to do the damage in the dance (where you re less likely to find a tape deck). hold on tight as the likes of way ahead give the sound engineer a fright when they think the system has overloaded.

with its sixth release new york trax continues the mission of highlighting the jewels of the new york underground. liquid asset is a philadelphia-born brooklyn-based hardware virtuoso who has made a name for herself by virtue of appearances on labels such as e-saggila s summer isle brooklyn s own primitive languages jacktone and acid etch where she has recently delivered a furious 7- split with isabella. liquid asset built her own 808 and 303 clones by hand. the modified 303 is particularly audible in the opening track of the record -ephemeral nights- where she did not waste time on an intro and went straight to creating a sonic pandemonium by blending an airhorn sound with frenzy acid basslines and a hardcore-leaning 909 kick. -contact- is a merciless creature of the night with its relentless dark groove building up throughout this composition cannot easily be classified as a representation of any particular genre. -controlperception- opens the b side. here liquid asset plays with a cheerful acid line over a dreamy landscape often punctured with bleeping sounds. finally in -forgetmenot- two opposite sounding basslines intertwine creating a minimal yet very capturing composition to close this one of a kind record.

british left-field artist dead fader returns to parachute. the new lp, jenny 153, runs out across nine tracks and operates at the fertile juncture between classical and club music compositional structures, and examines the crossover points between the two disciplines.

john cohen aka dead fader first arrived on the label in 2016, with it works 1 - a brace of warping, high energy electronic music compositions that while largely unclassifiable in genre, maintain a gloriously vibrant, emotive sensibility that owes much to early idm excursions, and the more abstract tenets of the krautrock genre. that said - the artist cites anything from kanye west to bach and back again as informing the decidedly experimental and potentially confounding work - and his latest offering for the milan based label continues to riff on this open ended mesh of influence to great effect. the original material is buoyed by a formidable remix package, featuring downwards affiliate jk flesh - who turns in a caustic reinterpretation of fyi, roly porter of vexd and tri angle fame, who takes on raw food, and planet mus konx-om-pax, whos reimagining of life cycle closes out proceedings. its an admirable line up, in keeping with the aesthetic concerns of cohens excellent lp - and the chosen artists turn in respectful but wholly personal work - making for an excellent addition to growing parachute discography. parachuterecords.

tact recordings launch their new vinyl only sub-label tactics , with the first ep coming courtesy of yard one, who deliver three excellently programmed cuts in the shape of tactics vol. 2.

the pieces were created as structured improvisations using a monophonic synth (primarily) along with a yamaha dx7 (borrowed from a friend) and possibly a guitar. recording was made on an older otari mx5050 1/2 8 track. mixing was done on a tascam m-50 console and a revox a77 1/4 machine. i recall the project happened in two bursts: i did half of it in september 85, then i finished up and edited the album together in december 85. i dont really recall making copies for anyone. i think i played it for a dozen people and that was it. just forgot about it. i remember jeff ament from pearl jam (green river back then) came by while i had it playing on my home stereo. he asked what it was and said he liked it. surprised me a little. with regard to overall aesthetic: i like the sound of machinery, but i enjoy the fragility of human error and human instinct. i like to put things into motion then climb aboard and drive. i can’t play an instrument (in the classical sense) for the life of me, so i’ve always just played things that are mostly choice rather than a convolution of style and technique. i guess you call that the brian eno school of rock.

second release of nathan melja on his own imprint dream real, this is not a techno ep, this is not a bass ep, this is simply a music record. four tracks going from ambient to club music to a weird and slowed down rap by himself on the eponymous title raindrops enjoy and much love to y all.

the 12th chapter on eerie records is a 2 tracker by label owner marco shuttle himself. with the return to a more groovy and floor-friendly take than the abstract sound of his recently released lp the release maintains nonetheless the classic signiture deep landscapy approach the artist has made us used to with his production. tribal rhythmics, 808 grooves, underlayed pads and some slightly middle eastern reminiscent sonic elements make it for a record that although still on the leffield side, is 100% techno. anyone who loved sing like a bird will probably find this one very appealing. a very classic marco shuttle one indeed!

the visionary from detroit, terrence dixon, is back to 30d records with an exquisite pack of vanguard tastefully built on techno. this fifth chapter of the exoplanets series is powered with two original cuts and a pair of remixes.
the homonymous title track, “digital ladder”, sinks us to a hypnotic state conducted by a dreamy and evocative sequence. the big dasha rush takes over the message and reframes it getting percussive expressiveness and savoir faire on her remix.
b side starts with the second dixon’s proposal, “this is a test”. same artistic tools, different discourse, shape and result. on this track, experimentalism gets us higher with a fanciful cyclic pattern, garnished with sporadic ascensions, that streams on a subtile bassdrum. 30drop takes the relay to carry up the message to his own stylistic universe constructing a fine solid remix.
“digital ladder” is an abstract and immersive trip to some place beyond the consciousness that relies into the core of the vanguard dancefloor. you can’t miss it!

recently, superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in south africa. he bought a custom made safari hat at his favorite milliner in cologne (ju&#776,,,rgen eifler) and set off with big eyes and a pair of binoculars. it was wild and wonderful and he saw many exotic (and big!) animals, even a leopard in a tree that told him the secret of the universe. he forgot what the leopard said because his mind was still playing and replaying the sound of what he heard on the first night of his arrival – the hypnotic and moving sound of the voices of africa, the voices of the wonderful tanda tula staff choir. there, the choir members work during the day at the camp and at night entertain the guests with their captivating voices and energetic dancing. so impressed was he with their songs and beautiful shangaan language that he decided to record a cd for them to sell in the shop at their camp and now this precious recording is also available through hippie dance / bush recordings on vinyl and cd for you in whatever wherever camp you are. the lp of the tanda tula choir comes with a very pretty poster.

‘utopia’ is the ninth studio album from the iconic artist björk, out november 24th via one little indian records. the album s artwork was created in collaboration of m/m, jesse kanda and james merry and reflects the records sonic direction, optimism, lightness, utopia. of the album she explained to dazed this summer that, ““maybe that’s why it became a utopian theme – if we’re gonna survive not only my personal drama but also the sort of situation the world is in today, we’ve got to come up with a new plan, if we don’t have the dream, we’re just not gonna change. especially now, this kind of dream is an emergency.” björk wrote, produced and recorded the album between reykjavik and new york, working closely with arca and writing for, conducting and recruiting a thirteen piece flute orchestra which will be on the road with her next year.

alessio mereu joins andrea ferlin to create a brand-new duo: aleandro. the two sardinian artists have both been producing for a very long time, but this collaboration promises to deliver quality with 1921 ep.
the a-side kicks off with 19, a soothing track with a strong presence of modulated synths and pads, perfectly balanced with deep basses and kicks. its continual bassline only encourages the rest of the instruments to develop organically, making this one a very special journey throughout its length. the b-side 21 is more influenced by techno with heavier kicks and basses. the duo use trippy sonorities to catch people’s attention but beware: this track will even make your grandparents boogie!

the ep consists of a selection of four heterogeneous tracks in terms of intensity and mood, and each one being singular for different reasons, but yet coherent by the round-around-the-edges production style they have been executed in their creator’s personal imagery and unorthodox approach to the techno genre.
the warmth and empathy who seem to be the driving force behind noro vanish and leave place to insanity and darkness present and growing throughout lothar. on the flip side, the eponymous track shows a rave-like up-tempo beat being outweighed by the sadness of its melodic elements, until finally in crimson, a quiet and unstoppable force pushing us out of the abyss until we reach the initial point again.

e.d.c wishes to explore electronic music through different universes where spaces, noises and textures are central to the creative process. his researches aim to experiment and think outside the box, allowing us to navigate through purposely-colored music and other worlds where every detail counts.
in this first release, the reverberations in each track create a shaking outcome that warns about the upcoming epic adventure with the wind of indestructibility that the tracks blow in our direction.

merveille & crosson return to visionquest this october with their second long player, entitled cerulean and featuring nine original compositions from the duo. 2012 saw the release of cesar merveille & ryan crossons critically acclaimed inaugural long player drm, seeing the pair veer their output into abstract realms and embrace a more eclectic left on centre production style. here five years later the pair return with their second album cerulean, again tipping the focus over to a modern classical, jazz, ambient and abstract aesthetic, featuring collaborations with juliard trained classical pianist julien quinten, no regular play’s greg paulus on trumpet, wareika’s henrik raabe on guitar, yonathan levi on double bass, moritz baumgartner adding additional drum work and berlins signum saxophone quartet. across the ‘cerulean’ project merveille, crosson and all involved offer up an amalgamation of sounds and styles from the freeform jazz odyssey styles of even tides and nordic bummers to the ethereal ambience of intro (almost raw) and mcyh whilst subtly nodding towards their minimal roots with acid pal and qaudra. the pair also radiantly display their love for the new age modular synth style with arp and life in the 80s with intricately programmed, dynamic melodies throughout, all in all resulting in a truly unique and forward thinking project from an array of talents.

let your brain slowly melt to the delightful sounds of dima disk. having first heard their music via the palace x bronze skate video a year or so ago, we did a bit of digging and it turned out to be by a duo called dima disk, one half of whom was an old glasgow pal called ragnar and robert nikolajev from tallinn s legendary club lekker. you may have heard their recent ripper on porridge bullet. having been fans of the shit coming out of estonia for a good few years and also having a thing for releasing music from our glasgow connections we felt that this needed to come out as a rad 12-.

volume number four of random numbers split series is released. a cross section of the best italian experimental artists, released in 5 volumes. each artist has been given the space of a single side c50 cassette, in which they could express their music freely, without compromise. volume 2 is entrusted to healing force project and massimo carozzi. this volume is dedicated to complex textures and mental voyages, soundscapes and rhythmic illusions. healing force project describes his work whit this words: “this session is my own and personal view of a hypothetical live that i would propose. made for the “embrace” series on sequencias (label from brooklyn), my goal was to start from an industrial groove with a sharp and rough step at the same time. during the listening, the primary elements gradually fade away, giving way to jazzy and broken rhythms structures. many samples, especially sax and trumpet, create sick textures and an apparent state of perpetual mental trip. “ massimo carozzi’s side consists of seventeen sound miniatures composed and assembled from recordings made between 2010 and 2016 in various parts of europe using a small portable modular system and a digital recorder. credits: mastered by francesco brini at spectrum mastering & vinyl artwork by emanuele luppino c+p 2017 random numbers

the fifth and final volume of random numbers split series is released. a split of the most experimental italian scene in 5 volume. to each artist is assigned a side of a c50 cassette, in which to let the music speak without compromises. volume 5 is entrusted to attilio novellino and collin mckelvey. the latest issue of the split series wants to be a bridge to future random numbers publications. in this case the two artists involved instead of dividing the two sides of the cassette decided to merge their productions into a collaboration. started in 2014, the collaboration between attilio novellino and collin mckelvey produced two albums: hypehunt and me&#768,,,taphisiques cannibales. sons of the same approach, shared by similar sound sources and similar compositional techniques, the two works find in the different suggestions around which they are made, the specificity that allows them to grasp its essence, autonomous and complementary at the same time.

the 3rd lp in the series air afrique records presents is a journey which leads more to club-tracks. it starts with an uprising afro-track performed by the camroun rapper the tale (a.k.a. zeegee) in pidgin english. the last track of the a side is a tribute to the fast techno-like style funana which is very popular on cabo verde islands. the b-side is going straight into tropical bass and ends with an pure simple straight foreward electro-tech track.
