albrecht la brooy s analogue attic imprint welcomes citizen maze onto its roster with the four-track serenity in the woods ep. australian duo albrecht la brooy have been steadily carving out a name for themselves over the past few years with their jazz-inflected take on deep house via the likes of apollo/r&s, night tide and of course their own analogue attic imprint which has become a home for their own output as well as fellow australian artists like sleep d, rings around saturn and more. here though we see the label offer up the inaugural ep from melbourne s adam mccoy aka citizen maze. leading on the package is the ten-minute natural playgroun , embracing the labels signature field recording background aesthetic whilst stirring in organic drum grooves, fluttering pads and jazzy sax licks throughout. glade hollow follows with bumpy, off-kilter drums and ethereal chords at its core whilst horn lines and twinkling synth melodies wander across its eight-minute duration. moonlight sanctuary opens the flip-side, edging into darker territories with murky dubbed out synth flourishes, robust drums and tension building strings before title-track serenity in the woods rounds out the package, laying focus on a snaking sub bass groove, metallic percussive shuffles and expansive atmospherics.

with previous form on colors and love fever, remi mazet returns on relatively new label social joy with a deep and refined trip through house music as played by a true musician. there’s a dusky, cinematic quality to the whole ep, from the captivating intro to the sweet rhodes soul of -safran- and on to the broken wheeze of -jazz e-. -shrine- has a more forthright club-ready veneer, while -jammin- brings furthermore machine-oriented grooves, but at all times the devil is in the details, and this record is most devilish indeed. one for all those craving a little more subtlety and flair in their house music.

the lobster theremin white label debuts yet another young producer in the shape of the leeds-based hedge maze. with a tightly crafted, hazy, blissed-out house sound these three tracks have been culled from the muggy undergrowth of his northern harddrive. untitled is a chattering roller, smothered with a throbbing, wavy bassline and ending in a fuzzy, chord-soaked crescendo, while the slow, drudging rhythms of dysania give a heavy nod to some of lowtec s down tempo numbers for the label. the release is rounded out with the glistening, black-sun shower of (slow). all delay-drenched crystal stabs and oscillating soundscapes. a floating, ethereal trip into the afterlife.

colors, the east-london party collective has been on a roll as of late, with a spate of successful events that have taken them across europe to berlin, istanbul and barcelona to name a few countries. as the name suggests, each event draws inspiration from the colour spectrum, with guests encouraged to dress up in a different chosen shade each night to get down to a soundtrack influenced by deep house, funk, disco and techno.

the album draws from a much broader palette than the band s debut, utilizing repetitive loops and samples, playing up a rhythm section that could walk into any recording session by the fall and feel comfortable, honing an expansive loose guitar sound and all the while retaining that unmistakable knack with melody. it s a really exciting and refreshingly original record. of the album, the band s jack cooper says, we set about trying to make a record that was far more original and broader than the first one... a representation of all the things that inspired us rather than a small portion. we began writing with us in mind...playing to our strengths. bodies was the first song...like most of the album written to repetitive loops and drones. the demo had an arthur russell drum loop because it sounded how neil drums so i guess that s where we were at. without saying there s always been a dance element to our music , i think we wanted to write songs that people might be able to move to, if the mood was to take them and there s something incredibly satisfying in repetition.

with melodic and rolling percussion, earl grey creates a cheerful vibe to start the ominous maze remix. the intro leads straight into the body of the track when the contrabass becomes the dominant instrument making the tone tougher. the drum breaks transition through several change ups and syncopated edits.
