sunlightsquare keeps on exploring multiple style of house music this summer. the previous single from the last month -oyelo- was a winning combination of authentic latin cuban music and classic 909 house beats. it was championed by ron trent, osunlade, hunee, bradley zero, nick the record and atjazz to name a few. this time, the main man and keyboard wizard claudio passavanti deployed two remixers for deeper and more spiritual endeavour to showcase his magical composition. hailing from the birth place of south african house music pretoria, the talented young producer blaqtone laid out beautiful sunset pad, earthy african percussions and solid rolling beats, all work like magic with claudio s original spiritual keyboard works. on the flip side, kay suzuki pulled off another dubbed out psychedelic mix with -astro dub-, just like the previous release, and the more dance-floor oriented classic deep house style of -moon mix- influenced by the likes of larry heard. the track features sequenced mini-moog bass line and call & response drum programming before blissful harmonies and melodies kick in.

after the first release in june 2016 and #002 following in early 2017, the berlin- based imprint through these eyes is ready to announce the next release. this time it features two heavy jungle tracks by austrian based artist sun people. on the name giving a-side of his through these eyes release sun people uses an iconic vocal sample, adds a gut-wrenching 95 style bass-line and tops it all off with some of the finest razor sharp percussions in the genre to deliver one of the most stomping tunes you ll hear this summer. nu gun on the flipside gets a lot more dubby with it s perfect jungle beat edits and moody chord stabs - all that laid out over a well known vocal sample. it can easily be considered a prime example of sun people s signature sound which is heavily rooted in dub, jungle and juke/footwork.

70% deal , last copies left.... sascha braemer s first record on dirtybird was a very big success gathering support from a wide array of djs. as our very first german artist, we were very happy when he sent over this super hot follow-up ep. true to dirtybird style both tracks on the ep are thematic, but these also show some restraint, not getting too silly or gimmicky with the themes. grounded in heavy funk kick drum grooves, sascha has delivered another set of bombs for sure. the train grows from a simple solid groove to a massive whistling peak, then back to the deep rooted funk. fly flip is a play on bug sounds, bringing a more laid back vibe to the table. both of the tracks are the kind of thing that could be played in any set from techno to deep house which really says a lot for the universal appeal of sascha s solid beats. we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

camea returns with the third release on her neverwhere imprint, titled vanish , this spring. in her new single, she digs deep on her drum machine into studio 1-esque territory, using alluring classic minimal techno grooves as a back drop for her seductively soulful, selfconflicted vocals. camea not only captures a timeless micro-house vibe in this piece, but she continues to push her sound forward as well as her love for avant-guard techno. up next is delft imprint boss, la-4a, best known for his analogue vintage roland drum machine productions. he has laid down an irresistible 303 break-beat club mix of camea s track in the a2 spot. his dance cut of her vocals over bass driven percussion is a perfect counter piece to the original, and compliments the sound from his recent acid techno album phonoautograph . on the flip side, berlin techno legend and ostgut ton/berghain resident tobias. gives his graceful interpretation. he has reworked the original into a tasteful, dark, spacious 8-minute minimal techno piece, with percolating panning and filters on the vocals. as usual with tobias., he clearly conveys his undeniable expertise and instinct for exquisite dance music. with this release, camea is also marking the 2nd anniversary of her cult neverwhere radio show this spring, having produced twenty-four, two-hour episodes with exclusive dj mixes and guests. the show currently has residencies on digitally imported, tsugi radio and ibiza sonica, and camea has quickly established herself as a driving force in the left-field techno community, and a passionate advocate of underground radio.

sunlightsquare s first single of 2017, oyelo, is a mixture of jazz, cuban and house music in its most authentic form. starting with moody latin-jazz piano and sun-drenched live percussion played by master percussionist giovanni imparato, the track is driven by the classic house beat of the tr-909 - the legendary 1980 s drum machine. ronnie scott s resident cuban singer rene alvarez delivers the impassioned vocals, followed by the main man claudio passavanti s heated montuno piano riffs, which combine seamlessly to create a blissful, dance-floor experience. it s a perfect marriage of organic grooves, lush beats and soulful vocals, joining the dots between different generations of latin dance music.
for the b side, london based, japanese producer kay suzuki transformed the original track into his signature psychedelic journey in 2 parts. his by the sea mix takes you to the havana beach with its synthesiser generated waves & seagulls right from the intro. the stripped-down beats and vocals are smoothly laid out with warm analogue synth textures, giving more space to claudio s tasteful latin-jazz keyboard improvisations. in contrast, the drum dub goes to the opposite side of the spectrum, all the musical elements have been removed, focusing solely on the live percussion and the raw tr-909 beat, all dubbed out with tape delays for a classic cosmic dub treatment.

celebrating osiris’ 50th release in two parts, label head simon shreeve unveils ‘deep summer’ as the first: a downtempo, vocal-led track with a pace and laid-back vibe not usually associated with his mønic alias. on the b side, a remix from none other than burial offers a distinctly smokier take on the track, full of percussive melodies that weave into surprisingly major-chord territory towards the end of the song’s ten minutes. this is a release that sees both artists pushing their respective music’s preconceptions.

with bjoern torske, skateboard, telephones and last not least the sex tags label all hailing from bergen, the city s not been exactly short on world leading “d.i.s.c.o” , but it s geir hermansen aka velferd that recently cought our ear with his keys. in “the city that drowned” it s unlikely only ever so wet, there s bliss, sun, warmth, heat - all painted bright with skyrocketing masterful synths over very neat and dry bass. great! laid back and somehow dreamy the whole thing catches you by the ear and lingers on but then there s so much dedicated kick and an almost extatic groove in each track - irresistable string hooks made in heaven! “never” and “through the valley” add on to where the title song just left and this give the 3 track ep so much perfectly arranged strength… bergen might well have given birth to another disco standard-bearer.

the third release on the emergent dreamtime label finds bobby bricks and miskotom sharing precious wax space with their own takes on laid back balearic house. bricks is up first, laying down a laid back house chugger propelled by fluttering synth lines that have spent time soaking up plenty of vitamin d. amazon blue does away with the drums for much of the tune, letting the new age synth tones do all the work before a mellow set of percussion comes loping in. miskotom has a more nocturnal feel at work on star master, but it s no less plush in its execution, while ad lucem ramps up fretless bass licks and plastic flute tones for another blissful excursion onto the astral plane.

new york meets brighton as both label and artist step out on wax for the first time. this is a new, exciting realm for homage, but they surely know they re onto a winner with the feel good disco edit tones of tech support. there are classics embedded into these fine jams, with -feel it- coming on particularly summery in its laid back disco funk stylings. -inside out- is slightly more looped up, but no less uplifting, while -clarity- heads into a more woozy, filtered groove that feels inspired by the likes of theo parrish s ugly edits. by way of contrast -sugar- is a much more electronic affair that kicks with purpose while simultaneously reaching for the stars.

having sprung into action with the sol explorer ep on girasole, william caycedo is back with a new selection of jams on the ever-developing slapfunk. as the label s remit for minimal house and techno broadens, we re treated to low slung leftfield beats on -booty call- before the peppier broken beat groove of -ain t no joke-. -creepin - and -g groove- head into more familiar territory for slapfunk fans, but there s still space for the crisp, laid back funk of -tales from the west- and the off-kilter jazzy vibes of -yes we do- thrown in for good measure.

mr. k gets jazzy on this new 12-inch from most excellent unlimited. the breakdown of the smooth r&b staple -street life- stands out with a steady four-on-the-floor pulse that contrasts with the funk backbeat of the verses. working exclusively with this portion, krivit teases out six-and-a-half slinky minutes of sophisticated groove, weaving percussion and vocalist randy crawford s ad-libs in and out of the mix in tantalizing fashion. as a dj, danny krivit is renowned for his willingness to throw a funky curveball into the mix, and for the b-side of this single he gives us a peek at one of his secret weapons. a year after yusef lateef released his hit version of -nubian lady- in 1972, pianist roy meriwether was at a small club in dayton, ohio with his trio and laid down a sprawling live take that covered the entire side of a album, including a bridge that pushed the languid tempo of the original to a sassy upbeat workout. mr. k s edit focuses on this section, leaving us with nine minutes of gritty, get-down funky jazz complete with thunderous drum break. whether working as a surefire party starter or a clever changeup, -nubian lady- is a dancer.

echocord returns late june with a new release, joel alter under his jor-el alias, entitled ‘tilted reality’ and comprising three originals from the swedish artist. currently based in copenhagen, sweden born producer and dj joel alter is a name synonymous with the contemporary techno scene on both his home turf and across the globe, his back catalogue to date features a long player for the uncanny valley imprint, solo ep’s for d’julz’ bass culture, sweatshop and collaborative works for kontra musik alongside henrik johnsson amongst much more. this time round though we see alter return under his jor-el guise under which he first started releasing material on dj hell’s internation deejay gigolo imprint. up first is title-track ‘tilted reality’ laid out over seven minutes with a slowly unfolding dynamic feel, encompassing spiraling atmospherics, distorted rhythms and blooming stab- sequences. ‘elevation’ follows and takes a more direct groove-driven approach via straight four-four percussion and hooky bass chops, whilst tension building pads and fluttering dub echoes gradually build around the foundation. ‘solitude’ closes out the package deliving into deeper realms with soft ethereal dub chords, acid tinged leads and emotive strings.

isolation diaries is argentinian producer alejandro mosso s 2nd album. it comes more than ten years after his debut, hiperborea in 2005. he says i think the album is warm, emotive and nostalgic but not dark nor sad. it is percussive and melodic but not laid back and balearic. it is tribal and organic but still very precise, as only electronic music can be. the grooves are strong and infectious and the sounds are rich and satisfying, resulting in music that sounds very organic and unpremeditated. the album is accompanied by a burnt freidman remix of the track isolation diaries, and a ricardo villalobos remix of deardrum.

it’s no exaggeration to say that geraldo pino and his band the heartbeats kickstarted the whole soul/funk/afrobeat scene in west africa. mixing highlife, funk and jazz, and using the latest equipment, they laid waste to all before them. in 1966 fela kuti was a jobbing musician, eeking out a living with highlife bands. when gerlado pino came to town, it changed his life.
“pino tore up the scene,” he recalls in an interview with carlos moore. “i knew i had to get my shit together. and fast!”

its always great to have access to quality masters from some of the world s greatest-ever artists and gladys knight hits that spot, especially via the original 12 inch version of love is always on my mind is another one of those impossibly rare buddah 12 inch from the mid-70s. this is really a 10 minute plus tour-de-force of relentless disco with gladys impassioned vocals doing their usual superlative job. mint 12 inch copies are reputedly worth £200 but the fact is that theres no mint original ones left anymore. until now. additionally we ve cheated slightly by including one of gladys knight & the pips in-demand columbia recordings on the flip - the ashford & simpson penned classic bourgie bourgie on which gladys laid down the definitive vocal to this club classic on the full 4.37 original 12 inch mix. two definitive dancefloor gems on one 12 inch pressing mastered from the original tapes. what more could you want ?

for our next release we welcome back two of hamburg’s finest and most recent international exports: adana twins. last seen on our latest various artists compilation, the duo returns with three absolutely stunning tracks of low slung, infectious cuts blurring the lines between house and techno with an undeniable brush stroke of character the two are quickly becoming synonymous for. ‘flower of cane’ kicks things off in an almost sinister fashion with massive low end bursts and a fever inducing, single note that never stops rising culminating in a climactic crescendo of dance floor euphoria while ‘ortus’ takes a much more ‘up-beat’ approach with dreamy arpeggios and shimmering atmospherics laid over a pulsing bassline resulting in a gorgeous number ideal for a number of memorable moments. wrapping up the originals is the guaranteed summer anthem: ‘relentless fest. jeppe kjellberg’ where sultry vocals and lush aural artifacts launch sensations to uncharted new heights. not done yet, we asked none other than the brilliant andre lodemann to create his revision of ‘relentless feat. jeep kjellberg’ and he, as always, delivered big time. with not only one but two solid reworks of the original lodemann’s remixes need no description other than there is a vocal and a dub version to satisfy any dj’s sensibility. we hope you enjoy.

initial listens to inre rymden (swedish for inner space) reveal it to be a curious combination of slow-motion house music and salubrious new age funk. in this case, first impressions are accurate, and they should intrigue you enough to dive deeper into the paradisiacal vistas tommy awards paint here. the opening track prometheus introduces that feeling of sundown deliquescence that very few musicians can summon, as it locks into a laid-back groove that induces utmost serenity, buoyed by sublimely mellow guitar vibes that should make fans of manuel gšttsching s ashra and phil manzanera s solo output spring to attention. draget conjures the sort of exquisite elegance and preternatural chill last heard on roxy musics 1982 lp avalon but somehow its even more blissed out than that boudoir classic. and so it goes for most of inre rymden: among the six tracks, only rexy hints at tension, courtesy of a bass line that sounds like it should score a prisoners walk to the electric chair. but thats tempered by guitar sighs of radiant melancholy, not unlike those lofted by popol vuh s daniel fichelscher. even when inre rymden gets relatively uptempo, as on hans logan, it still glides like gilded, glazed, balearic house jams, urged on by subliminal bongos and dappled with pastel guitar shimmers far off on the horizon. music is love and love is our music, runs tommy awards slogan (a sentiment beautifully echoed by david crosby on his revered 1971 album if i could only remember my name), but one could also argue that it is medicine a balmy ear massage that spreads healing frissons to all areas of your body and mind. tommy awards continue their miraculous act as scandinavians channeling the tropics with stunning audio verisimilitude.

nice price deal !!! the flatmate ghost ep takes the classic tech house aesthetic on a laid back, rolling journey, while two distinctly dissimilar remixes open your eyes and ears further. title track flatmate ghost quickly lures you into a subtly relaxing beat but as soon as youre locked, dissonant synth bursts and ominous, pitched down vocal meanderings immediately disrupt the dance. while kellerkinds take on the original brings forth a shoulder swinging groove, soothing piano riffs and clever silences. andres zaccos version moves with relentless percussion, delving into the hollow depths of dark bass. quality time offers the more sensual side of soukie & windishs production. here, otherworldly harmony prevails while the characteristic jarring stabs take a backseat. soukie & windish manage to visit opposite ends of the spectrum without losing the unique creative resonance the pair found in this collaboration.

this june will see bondage music release part two of it’s ‘home (remixes)’ package, welcoming an array of artists to remix mihai popoviciu’s recent long player on the label. following on from part 1 of the package which has already garnered support from the likes of huxley, neverdogs, emanuel satie and mat.joe to name but a few, bondage music returns with the second offering in this four part series. tuccillo takes the lead with his interpretation of ‘focus’, and as always from the ibiza-based unblock music founder we’re treated to intricately programmed, smooth and hypnotic material laid out over seven and a half minutes with a deftly unfolding dynamic feel. el mundo’s take on ‘triumph’ follows, dropping the tempo and instilling a latin edge to things via organic percussion, emotive strings and mystical vocals. frankfurt’s sascha dive then offers up his ‘atmospheric dub’ of ‘music 999’ to open the flip side, as the name would suggest shining light on billowing dub stabs, ethereal atmospheres and robust rhythms before kevin yost closes the package with his percussive driven ‘hynposia’ remix. the mihai popoviciu ‘home (remixes) part 2’ is out on bondage-music 9th june 2017

nice price deal !!! this is a new sub label of i220 called ugra records. not surprisingly itis run by sertac ugra from ugra and albrecht. the sound is similar to that ofi220 with german influenced sounds and arrangments all playing a part. the a side here is a real killer with its gentle building feel andheavyweight synths and acidic stabs that really lift the track. the flipside is more laid back again with its quality synth work and funkybassline. a good start from this promising label

the days are longer and lighter already and that can only mean one thing. summer is on its way… lee burridge and lost desert return with sunshine days in mind on their ‘loopyness’ ep. an apt description indeed for the title track. its infectious groove rolls forward, making you want to get up and wiggle your hips, this track has funk. a live guitar lifts the track halfway through, as stuttered vocals and string-like synth lines take you away to other worlds. over on the other side of the vinyl (or track two for digital fans) is ‘botanic’. another summer daze, groovy, light and airy with a slinky fat bassline and a warm breakdown. music to close your eyes and drift away to, this track has been a firm favourite on all day i dream dance floors since last summer. the ep comes to a close with ‘12cc’ featuring junior. a dubbier groove underpins the whole affair while glass-like melodies and laid back synths sway back and forth. it’s a patient groover that rewards those who take the ride.

following his 2015 release s/t, ant orange is back with another groove-laden 12inch on karaoke kalk. arkupe is a prime slice of laid-back beats and bass-heavy jazz breaks. each track oozes soulfulness, from the smooth-as-silk fender rhodes on the opening title track to the downbeat afro rhythms of fog walk, and the nonchalant guitar riffs and synth lines on little wing. side 1 closes with feld, a sun-drenched slo-mo house jam. side 2 presents another handful of diverse ant orange cuts, starting with the more uptempo toe-tapper big lils. lb offers more tasty jazz-n-bass drumming, while the closing track my man has a breezy still-awake-on-sunday swagger. with his latest 12inch on karaoke kalk, ant orange shows the wide range of styles he has to offer. arkupe is loaded with some of the mellowest vibes youre likely to hear all year.

dred records is the new imprint from john osborn. after co-running tanstaafl with october for 5 years john is now focusing his solo a&r efforts with dred records. dred takes the fundamental principles of dance music that was laid down in the late 80s & early 90s, fusing them together with modern producers of today. a record label concentrating on sonic sci-fi visions of the future without loosing the roots of dance. the first release features two heavy hitting club tracks by s:vt aka sven von thuelen with a killer remix by john osborn. made with love in berlin & mastered at man made mastering, 2017.

“a safe place to be naked” is s. fidelity’s debut album, which will be released on may 5th via jakarta records. it features 12 tracks, capturing the producer’s quest for a fresh sound, which he elaborated over the last two years, locked in his tiny basement studio in berlin. evolving from there the he has also released an ep with feelin music in 2014, and “sidekicks”, a joint project with long-term friend and collaborator bluestaeb in 2016. by working with artists like tru thoughts singer harleighblu and label mate juju rogers as well as fellow producers bluestaeb and shuffle jack, his lp “a safe place to be naked” plays with sampled vocals and even his own voice – often distorted, but still present. s. fidelity was born in st. gallen, switzerland, mainly works in berlin and currently resides in london. as a producer he developed a unique and always driving sound, combining sampling techniques and classic beat making with unusual drum patterns, modern synth and atmospheric sound effects. s. fidelity’s laid-back eclecticism is marked by a deep knowledge and fascination for pop culture as a whole. his idea of fresh hiphop references to various genres, including jazz, ambient, disco and electronica. the lp contains an a2 poster & download code.

tapes at the control! superstar follows up his previous 12inch for the estonia s porridge bullets, this time with a collab project with tapes (jahtari, em, sextags, meeuw muzak) ltd pressing, cut reggae 45 style (large centre hole) big tip! a disconsolate love-cry of a man gripped with feelings of loss. emotions laid bare on a tender night-drive dub with tinkling synths, recalling the memories of an unearthly beauty.

picking up right where ep 1 left off, ep 2 kicks things off with a bang. first up is catz n dogz and yotam avnis for blakkat a high pace burner ideally suited for dance floors from panorama bar to under the leds of watergate and every club in-between. the duo return with the bright version of afterglow for the second cut on ep 2 and aptly titled, it pushes an intense, glitter filled ride to its limits. embarking onto the b-side, o.a. peas from heavy hitter eats everything & lord leopard take a trip down memory lane with a heavily sample based feel good tune that will absolutely demolish dance floors worldwide. rounding out the ep is a final collaboration between catz n dogz and reno wurzbacher with ma people and its by far the smoothest and most laid back tune of the bundle, but never does it let you rest as a mesmerizing groove and lush atmospherics tell a deep, complex tale of late nights and early mornings.

!! 2018 repress !! flying high after their successful watergate 22 compilation, catz n dogz return to deliver eight exclusive tracks from their mix via two eps showcasing their expert ability to navigate a multitude of different styles. ep 1 commences with catz n dogz original fire burning when we are, a tune that sees them flying solo to create a stunning journey that lands somewhere sonically between carl craig and henrik schwarz where infectious drums reinforce an ensemble of dramatic harmonies tangling with euphoric melodies. afterglow follows suit with an attitude infused vocal from shaun j. wright laid over a trek into a world where old school vibes meet a new school plan of attack resulting in an absolute floor filler perfect for any time. rounding out the ep are remixes from two of the best: prosumer and sebo k. prosumer steps up first to rework fire burning when we ar’ and creates a massive tune with the signature prosumer touch, evident in the timelessness and maturity of the reimagining. sebo k in turn hands over a jackin remake of afterglow by staying true to the original by keeping everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

portable sunsets is one of the monikers of peter segerstrom: a producer based in brooklyn, us. he previously released his full-length album bless on atomnation, an lp as surfing on 1080p and another portable sunsets lp on deadelus magical property label. order is the follow up of these records and is a dreamy, somewhat lo-fi experimental techno lp. combined with an ancient ambient undertone, ‘order’ is not loosing its club ready vibe. this record floats somewhere between laid-back warehouse techno and the electronica genre - very much representing a unique style: peter often uses his own voice in his productions, programmed through self-created synths in max/msp. vocals have become textures and are used as a synth, pad or soundscape. the combination of genres makes order a perfect record to dream away on at home, as well as to dance to in clubs.

over the past five years velvet season & the hearts of gold have laid down all manner of sizzling disco edit grooves that veer into spaced out, cosmic territory, but on this new joint for blue velvet they aim for the jugular with an abundance of cheeky licks from familiar sources. angel dust is set to get all manner of parties going wild with its classic hooks, while turn me on takes a smoother approach into romantic climes with equally recognisable sounds repurposed for the modern dancefloor. the samples may be easy to spot, but that just makes this records appeal even more universal.

monikcas new sound is excitingly fresh, clubby, emotional and allocated somewhere in the unknown, deep space between wonky house and deep house. this 12inch is a proper tool for the moody and laid back 2017 summer-dancefloor.

in time for the 20th anniversary of his label hospital productions, dominick fernow offers the first release of his techno-focused moniker vatican shadow on ostgut ton, following up on his berghain residency and joining ostgut booking in 2016 with his vatican and prurient projects. the cocteau twins/this mortal coil-channelling, beatless widescreen opener “they deserve death” and the two collateral club/dancefloor tracks “rubbish of the floodwaters” and “weapons inspection” offset each other by reincarnating the tape manipulation that laid the foundation of vatican’s first performances with analog hardware and minimalist midi-dissection. produced in los angeles with josh eustis, vatican shadow’s rubbish of the floodwaters ep casts a full spectrum picture of where the project was born and where it headed.

our canadian brother is popping his lph cherry with risk the rip, a four-track journey through the bouncy, beachy, wavy house boogies the guy s become notorious for. club jams at heart that have been wrapped up in gooey layers of laid-back, ethereal pads and tied off with smatterings of punchy percussion. a soundtrack for at-home relaxation masquerading as nightclub fodder or vice versa!

paris player le loup and pura launch their new label shadow play with a four-track collection of avant-garde house music delivered boxfresh from the studio. as a solo artist, and one half of hold youth, le loup has cultivated a nuanced sound that is steeped in soulful jazzy influences, with a nod to the future and plenty of soul. on this first ep we’re presented with a showcase of this sound, and a hint at what’s to come on the brand new label… to get things rolling we have the very first track ‘the ancient ways’, which is quite laid back and minimal in its composition. there’s breathing space for the beats and bass, with an eerie atmosphere pervading throughout. ‘ygam’ is next up with a wobbly bassline, cosmic death rays and sinister effects lurking in the background - it feels like the soundtrack to a deep space thriller. on the b-side things get ravey with ‘acid surface’. retro breakbeats and stuttered toms support a dangerously alluring symphony of effects and pads. at the heart of the track is a deep subby bassline, transmitting an ancient, yet cosmic vibe.

luciano nitri has been locked away working on his debut album for horizons music. the sampler is a glimpse of what is to come, with 3 shining vocal tracks, each have the power to be the lead track in their own right. ‘circles’ is funk infused bassline, coupled with lucy kitchen’s haunting vocal this track is the perfect tease and intro for the album. visonobi takes no prisoners, with his heavyweight vocals laid on a sparse nitri beat. ‘homage’ is the calling card to throw some darkness on this single. the final track shows nitri’s liquid flex, soft vocals the track takes us on a journey, and yes this journey for nitri has just begun. circles the album is out soon!
