a heart from your shadow is the debut collaborative lp from michael beharie (new york) and teddy rankin-parker (chicago). since graduating together from oberlin college, beharie and rankin-parker each veered into markedly different avenues. beharie joined up with the ever-confounding new york ensemble zs (northern spy, the social registry). rankin-parker became an on-demand cellist for his prowess in the work of improvisation and avant-garde music, lending his talents to a wide array of collaborators such as primus, iron & wine, steve reich, and pauline oliveros. rather than jump into stream-of-concious improvisation, beharie and rankin-parker chose to focus the albums themes via intricately composed pieces. a heart from your shadow could be described as protest music, brimming with intense energy, harrowing anxiety, and steadfast optimism. produced by michael beharie, mixed carefully by jim o rourke, mastered by james plotkin and cut to lp at d&m berlin. black virgin vinyl housed in poly-lined inner sleeve in reverse board-printed double-width spine jacket with spot uv finishing. first pressing of 300 copies.

tobias bernstrup is a contemporary musician and video artist born 1970 in gothenburg, sweden. he received an mfa from royal college university of fine arts stockholm in 1998. using the visual language of pop culture, video games, sci-fi, classicism and gothic noir, he has created a stage persona with notorious live performances. dressed in elaborate costumes of skin-tight rubber suits and fetish gear, tobias� external appearance is androgynous. he raises questions about representation of identity, the body and physical space in both virtual and non-virtual realities. between 1997 and 1998 he self-released two limited cd-r eps. in 2002 his debut album �re-animate me� was released by tonight records followed by two limited 12� singles for the song �27� and the italian version �ventisette�.
�27� is a 5-song ep collecting 4 different mixes of the title track plus one unreleased song from the �re-animate me� recording sessions. the material on this ep is closely connected with the world of computer games which bernstrup also inhabits.

the album was written, produced, and distributed in garys hometown baltimore, between 1986 and 1987. after a break from performing while getting belated college degrees, gary returned to performing in the early 21st century, back to the singer/songwriter style of his past. gary feels that the generic art ensemble/original soundtrack days gave him an ability to open up his writing. his recent albums feature guitar, but many songs do have keyboards added to give them a fuller, less folky sound.

eno louis gained a solid background in traditional edo music as a student at edo college in benin city, south-east nigeria. he lived at felas kalakuta republic till the army raid in 1978, when he moved to the us for a couple of years. on his return, he recorded with edo funk powerhouse the talents of benin, and quickly became a mainstay of the flourishing disco and boogie scene, in-demand as guitarist and drummer, with credits including releases by pogo ltd, amas grill, chris okotie, oby onyioha, chris mba, dizzy k falola, harry mosco, pat finn and the super elcados... to name just a few. the two tracks here are from louis debut lp, living in the usa.

for those who know the story of the bridge wars, there is some irony found in the fact that scott la rock, representing the south bronx, was born in queens, though he did relocate to the south bronx at a very young age. after graduating high school la rock spent four years in vermont at castleton college where he earned varsity letters in basketball, but more importantly for the world of hip hop he became more and more enamored with music. on graduation he returned to new york and began working as a dj and as a social worker at the franklin armory mens shelter in the bronx. it was at the shelter that scott met kris parker and the duo formed boogie down productions. the rest, as they say, is history. roughly a year after the tragic shooting death of boogie down productions founder, dj and producer scott la rock b boy records and krs-one issued this special remix album, a man and his music (remixes from around the world). billed as a limited edition collectors classic the project was released in a limited run � briefly available in the 90s � and now after years of being unavailable reappears as a tribute to one of the genres early pioneers.

jack underwood was born in norwich in 1984. he graduated from norwich school of art and design in 2005 and is currently studying towards a phd in creative writing at goldsmiths college, where he also teaches english literature. he is a librettist, musician and co-edits the anthology series stop sharpening your knives. he won an eric gregory award in 2007. he lives in hackney.

william anthony bois was born in stockholm, sweden, in 1991. he expressed an early interest in music, especially electronic music. whilst william demonstrated a natural tallent for piano composition from an early age, in 2003 he began channeling his creativity into house music after a friend introduced him to fruity loops. early street dancing lessons introduced him to funk which has been a source of inspiration ever since the age of nine. he continued the dancing with the dance group funky 4 brothers and has performed around europe and sweden. william also studied music production and sound engineering at sixth form college. this background has given him a firm foundation from which to express his music through a variety of rhythms and tone that give his music an individual flavour.

how do you follow-up last years monster mr.spock? of course with something even more ghetto, more dirty and more fun. lezgo is the 2nd collaboration between justin martin and ardalan, a curious bay area duo of master and apprentice that seems to be magic in the studio. this time they delve deep into the footwork meets house sound delivering cool r&b respites inside mega booty grooves for 3 minutes then letting down the hammer on the kick drum in the finale that kills every time. this is the type of tune that gets everyone moving and smiling and makes you wish you had 10 of them just like it in your bag. i ve played this to every type of crowd from techno chin scratchers to college kids, festival crowds, london know-it-alls, fund raising 40+ year olds, deep house heads, post dubsteppers, basement afterpartiers, hip-hop crews, disco kids and straight up ravers. it works everywhere and thats the sign of a big tune.

somewhat of a metaphor for britain, welcome to goon island is born from the great british art school tradition, the core of the band having met at art college in sothend, vivid, interesting, expansive and far-reaching, an aesthetic that seeps into everything they do from their other-worldly videos via intriguing photos to extra curricular activities such as training dogs to dance. yet such apparent frippery shouldn t disguise their uncanny ability to pen rather fine songs, as welcome to goon island attests.
