hercules and love affair is andrew butler with antony, nomi, and kim ann. butler emerged from making music for college based dance projects into a fully fledged recording artist, via the new york art scene. he hooked up with his friends from there and got them to collaborate and sing his songs and hercules and love affair is the result. antony rose to prominence when he won 2005s nationwide mercury music prize and this is a major step into a new area... a disco influenced mix of glamour and melancholy, happiness and clubbing that has sprung out of the mutual worlds of andrew and antony, kim ann and nomi. hercules and love affair is 2008s most exciting dancefloor concoction, an arthouse vision of pure pop by way of futuristic electronica, 4ad records and classic 70s new york disco, where beautiful, bruising harmonies and tensile rhythms collide in resurgent soundscapes and emotive disco workouts. the album is co produced by andrew butler with tim goldsworthy of dfa.

played by laurent garnier, danny howells, tom wax, hernan cattaneo, pig & dan, darko esser, mauro picotto, mike monday… four years ago jacob trier (husley) and august jackobsen (gunz) hooked up in london through their love of music. jackobsen was coming to the end of his ba in jazz music at trinity college, whilst jacob was playing dnb at various parties in and around the city. teaming up and bringing together their talents, they initially formed the group >nocturnals<. exploring various musical boundaries from deep electronica and ambient to break beat with jazzy undertones, and live performances with brass sections and vocalists, nocturnals found support from gilles peterson who signed them up to perform as part of his glenfiddich tour. as nocturnals developed so did husley and gunzs interest for techno and house, and their live dj sets using laptop, sampler, keyboards and turntables really took off.

rezzs involvement in the toronto scene helped grow her gritty style. events like bassmentality and older shows at the legendary guverment helped shape not only rezz, but an era of electronic music producers who became inspired from early dj college tours. mass manipulation is a commentary on how easily our minds can become manipulated by the things we consume in society. we consume heavily through the media, which, in turn, tries to curate our thoughts and dictate how we as humans are supposed to live and behave. this album plays off this idea and invites people to become hypnotized, allowing their brains to be manipulated by my music in the hope they might see things through a new perspective (perhaps an outer world viewpoint) one where everyone is free from the unrealistic expectations planet earth has drawn for them. a world of acceptance and hypnosis.

there is a long-standing love affair between dj harvey and pikes, ibiza. as well as coming back for his third consecutive Ômercury risingÕ residency, the legendary ÔdjsÕ dj has been appointed Ôcultural attachŽÕ for pikes, meaning his magic touch and feel-good presence will create even more special moments at pikes this summer, including the launch of new label, pikes records.
in 2015 dj harvey made his hugely anticipated return to ibiza and made pikes his home for his mercury rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real ibiza, the incredible history of pikes and a genuine love for music. the love, the dancing, the music and the balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by dj harvey has seen mercury rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade.
the next step in the harvey and pikes story sees him launch pikes records Ð the first record label founded by pikes owners and ibiza rocks co-founders andy mckay and dawn hindle. on the label, harvey explains: i see so many avenues to work together to release music, everything from live recordings from ibiza rocks and pikes, mix tapes, original productions, showcasing new artists, theres all sorts of avenues to open up. with the finer details still under wraps, its safe to say fans can look forward to the first release being harveys very own mercury rising compilation. but what can we expect from the third instalment of mercury rising? putting it quite simply, just a serious good time really says harvey.
