international deejay gigolo records presents its second remix package from the single i want u of label boss dj hell. the original gets a new twist with the reinterpretation of darren emerson. his own view on the track has a high intense energy and a pumping upfront attitude. french techno head the hacker reworks his own remix and gives it a dark & playful 2018 facelift.

after many years of steady work bristol-based artist joefarr created a well-respected profile on his own, he is now joining the label showing a side of his works that many never saw probably, and others always knew but never saw on a record. development always takes time, and time is nothing when the art comes out in his true form. this is “dedicate” - a very important record that represents something deeper than a peace of wax, label boss emmanuel took the big responsibility to remix the title track and make his own view of joefarr’s dedication.

the latest release on francis harris scissor & thread is another exercise in subtlety and restraint, brought to us by the emerging talents of nadia khan. with little known about the artist, this release lets the sublime music do the talking. title track ‘in gleam is a beautifully evocative drift into ambient textures - rising pads and occasion bass tones combine to set an exquisite scene. ‘local visit is a collaboration with label boss francis harris, and features some of the trademark submerged rhythm and textures the label has become known for, unfolding its deep structures over the course of the track. ‘restless sees label regular alex albrecht aka melquíades (whose previous ep on s&t was received warmly) provide the last bells remix - again muted tones and rhythmic complexity glide under ethereal piano fragments and slowly evolving pad washes. ‘sorting through finds its groove early, a deadened kick unfolds into an urgent percussion creating a thick atmosphere of melancholia. ‘sunburnt rounds out the physical release - ending how it started - with dreamy, smudged tones, and warm pads.

a coming together of some serious house music legends. boys own don terry farley teams up with kevin swain of d.o.p. for a peak-time acid anthem memory child. label boss posthuman strips it back for a sheffield bleep techno vibe remix, while kirk degiorgio rebuilds the track with modular acid and epic piano chords into a blissful, sunshine anthem. terry and kevin bring it all back with the more chilled acid tool mix to complete the ep.

reform, the tuscan techno duo, make a return to etruria beat to follow up the success of 2017s ‘checkmate ep, remixed by amelie lens and their recent ep on second state with a huge new offering - unconventional spaces. reform present three fresh originals, backed by a massive rework from etruria boss luca agnelli. unconventional spaces is a melodic and timeless work, perfect for a magic sunrise closing set. luca delivers a heavier rework, creating a special atmosphere with powerful chords that drift back and forth. just this is characterised by a raw triple stab, a vocal laid down by the guys themselves and an emotional and mysterious break. closing the ep is span, which is composed of bouncing tom samples, straight hats and a moogy bass that develops throughout the arrangement, a perfect peaktime number and strong finalé.

la rioja in spain may not be thought of as a hotbed of avant garde techno and electronica, but psychoskunk has been quietly issuing an uncompromising salvo of proudly underground releases since as far back as 2004. error etica, an alias from label boss victor martinez, is at the controls for this tenth vinyl release on the label, and he s sounding as proudly left of centre as ever. diatonic scale locks into an insistent groove, but the real magic of the track lies in the grubby notes punching their way around the drums, capped off with artful distortion that gives a wonderful bite to the production. tetratonic scale keeps things fuzzy but blows the rhythms wide open for a more poised, patient kind of techno incantation. r2pis remix of the track meanwhile clamps it back in order with a stern beat and a slow-release minimalism guiding the evolution of the track.

after marcin krupa’s jazz laden pumpers on sour edits vol 2, sour edits is back with a four-tracker featuring the first vinyl release from emerging talent braga circuit alongside label boss xxxy. the a1 is the collaboration between the two artists “take you there”. slamming drums, melancholic vocals and soaring soul samples to bring a tear to the eye and a pump to the fist a2 “one i got” is a straight up romantic soul swinger from the boy wonder on his own, craftily chopped samples sit alongside swinging drums to get any good dancefloor moving b1 “i won’t, i never” sees xxxy mixing baltimore breaks with romantic vocals and soaring strings for another tears on the dancefloor moment. b2 “what you do to me” closes out the record with a slap bass fest that builds and builds.......

up next on amsterdam’s format label is a four-tracker featuring original cuts and remixes by matrixxman, echologist and label boss juan sanchez himself.
the fourteenth format release is definitely one not to miss out on, as it offers material from some of today s most sought-after techno heads. up first is expiration, a joint effort from matrixxman and echologist. this one combines matrixxman’s signature bass and echologist’s one-of-a-kind dub techno flavors across a very trippy canvas. format’s juan sanchez follows with a dark and synth-heavy rework of the track. on fokus, juan displays a more melodic cut propelled by a playful groove. closing things off, matrixxman and echologist turn fokus into a crushing techno track filled with sweeping fx.
format continues with another strong release that’s destined to do the damage.

with the summer season well and truly in full step, mosaic returns with two finely tuned cuts of classic dubbed-out minimalism. a side in the night is a typically understated affair from label boss steve o sullivan under his wise caucasian alias. propelled by a bass-heavy tone and lit by layers of percussion that build on each other you ll find yourself getting lost in the washes of sparse vocals, rhythmic stabs and splashes of delay that reach out over the dance floor. far from providing instant gratification, this requires timely and repeated play to uncover the layers of subtle finesse and craftsmanship: perfect for keeping those feet moving at any hour of the night, or day for that matter. on the b side, steve teams up once again with fellow londoner, frazer campbell on rise which goes straight for the full smile effect as the duo conjure up one of those rare pieces of magic. set to a melee of skippy percussion, high-pitched toms and warmly toned melody, the prophetic voice of maya angelou and her timeless poem still i rise resonates supreme, bringing a touch of thoughtful intelligence thats all too often forgotten. as the track hits it peak, you cant help but feel the deep elation a groove like this brings in the darkest of hours.

dynamic dj and producer kölsch is set to release hal, his brand-new collaborative effort with canadian techno heavyweight tiga, on new label ipso. well known for his genre-defining cuts, danish producer kölsch has sold millions of records all over the world under his many different monikers, including seminal lp ‘1977’ and his widely acclaimed albums ‘1983’ & ‘1983’ & ‘1989’, with the latter including kölschs biggest track ‘grey’. a purveyor of deep and minimalist techno, tiga released his 3-track ‘stay cool’ ep earlier this year, with the game changing producer receiving a wealth of support from bbc radio 1 tastemaker pete tong on his last album, the 11-track ‘no fantasy required’ on counter records. made up of thunderous a-side ‘hal’ and a double b-side - containing the cosmic chord patterns of ‘first blood’ and the sinister build of grumbling ‘still so high’ - kölsch and tiga will also perform together b2b at offsonar this summer, with kölsch also scheduled to play a primetime headline set at belgian mega-festival, tomorrowland. “about a year ago i launched my label ipso”, said kölsch. “this summer ipso 002 is coming up, and it s a collab with none other than tiga. we spent a couple of great days in my copenhagen studio, and came up with 3 tracks i m really proud of. since the first release, i also started my ipso night in the legendary gewölbe club in cologne. i’ve had amazing nights there over the last 2 years and now it s time to expand.” having started his ipso residency in cologne, playing a mammoth 9 hour sets, kölsch has since expanded the brand to miami and watergate berlin, with further destinations in the pipeline. labelled as ‘the king of house” by annie mac, who added that kölsch, the ipso boss has garnered a reputation as one of dance music’s most talented producers, playing several ibiza dates over the summer, including ants, hi&#776,,,,,, ibiza’s ‘in the dark’ and circoloco. follow kompakt

earthboogie’s debut album, human call, rightly earned praise on its release earlier in the year, with listeners responding positively to its sticky and humid dancefloor fusions of african and south american rhythms, chunky dub disco, retro-futurist house, spacey analogue electronics and sun-kissed balearica. hot on the heels of that release, leng records has sourced new remixes of two album highlights – “high minded man” and “silken moon” – from running back label boss gerd janson and synthesizer-wielding balearic boogie stalwart pete herbert.

the rising london based label is quickly defining his own and unique sound laying down the law with another live jam recorded 4 tracks release by his own boss dothedu. following the success of the first release, senseverse records has came back with lost acids ep, a rough lost minded trip with an unusual sense of refinement. the producer lets the trip s curtain rise with lost acids which takes us to a gloomy hidden place on the edge of the house and techno roots with a banging 909 and crescendo 303 which dives smoothly into the background own producer s voice, colombine acids explores the happier stage of the trip and keeps the sound on the thin line in between the 2 genres with his fat kick and the flying and clashing crashes. the b1 throws us right back deep into the dark with a slowed down and mentally twisted remix by the very well known producer florian kupfer. finally early acids rings down the curtain s trip with some fine classic house music sonorities that lead us to a dreamy and dancy closing.

after being one of the many standouts on the we are opilec…! vol. iii compilation back in 2016, i-robots glamouflage is now getting a full vinyl release with artwork by tomozo kevorkian, who was designer for nyc s body & soul, and remixes by a standout team of producers from japan to switzerland to south africa and the usa. opening up the ep is a fantastic new take ii version from label boss i-robots, who added exclusive chinese vocal samples recorded on the streets of huang jiang city many years ago. the track is inspired by ennio morricone and supermax and is a loose and infectious groove with brilliant drums and percussion and an elastic bassline that really gets you moving. it s a subtle update to the original—also included here as a bonus cut—which itself is a steamy and tropical sounding groove. swiss electronic pioneer schaltkreis wassermann then features on a version of the original that reaches for the cosmos with its rugged bass riffs, tumbling toms and busy, ever evolving groove. it has a big breakdown with exotic synths wandering through the night and oodles of effects and big guitar licks. the first of the remixes comes from kuniyuki takahashi who has been a big supporter of i-robots since 2000. he is a sound designer from japan who had a compilation of his works put out by music from memory back in february. his version is laden with cosmic synths and chants, grunting and organic drums and is sure to be massive this summer thanks to its open air vibes. detroit s underrated but vital gary martin is the boss of the teknotika label and his version featuring colten decker playing an unusual sax line shows another side to the motor city. it s a curious and mysterious tune that makes for an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you locked throughout as it snakes along.
