the french trio evergreen (previously name we are evergreen) grew up listening to pop music from the us and the uk. yet, like many of the most influential artists of todays french pop scene (fishbach, halo maud, etc.) they value both french and english to deliver their message. this new album Ôoverseas was recorded with ash workman (franŤois & the atlas mountains, metronomy, christine and the queens), and see the band use a warm sound loaded with synthesizers and draw influences from the likes of django django, air or metronomy to craft percussive electro-pop songs.

special nice price - luke vibert has made many great records over the years, but few are quite as well crafted as his 2004 debut album under the now familiar kerrier district alias. inspired by a mixture of metro area, black devil disco club, cheap synthesizers, early new jersey garage, italian house and, of course, classic disco, it remains a touchstone in the development of nu-disco. this timely reissue features freshly re-mastered versions of all ten tracks from the original album, plus the six tracks which made up 2006 s kerrier district 2 12inch. these include the loved-up, late 80s loveliness of ce porte, the 808 cowbell and vocoder laden disco nasty, and a typically eccentric ceephax remix of sho u rite.

poolside began as a recording project in a converted los angeles backyard pool house in early 2011, producing sunny tracks of subaquatic indie dance music in this makeshift recording studio. surfacing first in the form of a youtube video for the catchy track Òdo you believe?Ó poolside were soon gaining local and national attention, with djs like james murphy of lcd soundsystem, techno legend derrick may, and disco don todd terje spinning these tracks at events and a growing online following. throughout 2011 poolside continued making waves with a sound called Òdaytime discoÓ through tracks like their cover of neil youngÕs Òharvest moonÓ and original tunes. in 2012 poolside worked on a remix for longtime disco punks the rapture and held fans over with a new single and video for a song called Òslow downÓ as they prepared to release their debut album. that album, pacific standard time, was self-released in july of 2012. after the albumÕs release, remixes for artists like matthew dear, little dragon and foolÕs gold soon followed, as well as rehearsing and touring with a live band and doing dj sets around the world. as thoughts turned to a second album, poolside went on ice for a year to regroup, beginning to work in earnest on another album in the fall of 2016. while still revolving around the sunny, laid-back disco sound of pst, these sessions yielded the additions of up-tempo dance songs and more guitars, and generally more fleshed-out arrangements. poolside surprise released their second album heat in 2017. poolside have over 1.5 million monthly listeners on spotify and have fans all over the world. they are currently on tour as a live band.

loke rahbek returns with his fifth album under the croatian amor alias with love means taking action, recently premiered at the 2016 edition of berlin atonal where it was considered by many as one of the festival highlights. although not as harsh and abrasive as previous albums, such as genitalia garden or last years the wild palms, rahbeck still manages to execute a polarising opus, comprised of short ambient journeys which incorporate various sonic influences and clever use of sampling outside of his usual employment of textural noise treatments. field recordings, immaculate synthesis and emotional vocal snippets are interspersed throughout this exploration of love and human connection. the title track, in particular, could well be one of our favourite songs this year. quite simply: breathtaking.

efficient space is honoured to share the little-heard recordings of three yolngu songmen from northeast arnhem land - bobby bunnungurr, jimmy djamunba and peter milaynga (d. 2007) - working in collaboration with victorian musician peter mumme. yolngu are the indigenous peoples of arnhem land in northern territory, australia, their clans are the marangu and malabirr, the languages djinang and gannalbingu. their songs are of instruction, story and ceremony.

with ÈredsuperstructureÇ, robert lippok created a new foundation for his musical endeavors. now Ð 7 years later Ð this system properly comes to life on Èapplied autonomyÇ. the title of the new album is a clear indicator as to what the berlin-based producer has been up to during the last couple of years, both on a conceptual level as well as how he molds his ideas into tracks. Èapplied autonomyÇ orchestrates a certain state of frantic standstill, which occurs once a structure is set. has this state been reached, the artist is free to focus on other equally important aspects, balancing the various shades, pushing ideas even further to really make them shine and blossom in their self-declared autonomy. the more light one lets in, the more layers become visible. layers are key when it comes to understanding Èapplied autonomyÇ. big chunks of the material with which the album has been produced derive from sketches specifically made for a club performance. rather than meticulously devising each and every detail, lippok focussed instead on recording as many fragments as possible in a short period of time, elements which he could later combine and layer on stage. based on this material and his experience experimenting with it in a live environment, the album slowly began to shape. an album culminating in a collaboration with klara lewis, with whom lippok spent 2 days at the ems studios in stockholm, approaching the idea of autonomy from yet another angle. during the session, both musicians played and performed simultaneously, yet not explicitly together, lost in their own thoughts and ideas, only subconsciously taking in what the other one was coming up with. the result is ÈsamtalÇ, 14 minutes of a constantly evolving state of poise, magically connecting all the dots lippok had already defined as Èapplied autonomyÇ. the artwork for Èapplied autonomyÇ has been created by the berlin-based argentinian artist luca gutierrez. over the last couple of years, he has made a name for himself with his spectacular av performances.

oddball space disco/funk tracks, composed between 1970 and 1985. big tip! a master of the mixing board, from the late 60s until the 90s bernard estardy was the wizard of french musical recordings. as head of cbe studios, he shaped everything from gŽrard mansets concept albums to claude franŤois hit singles, franŤoise hardys delicate tear-jerkers and michel sardous soul-stirrers. this giant had his hand in the whole range of mainstream french music by making his studio a veritable playground for experimentation. his legendary album la formule du baron, released in 1969, and the eight lps of production music he made between 1974 and 1978 for tele music are vivid proof. in the cbe studio, which she runs today, his daughter julie estardy discussed his singular career.

luaka bop presents this album from contemporary brazilian legend kassin. one of the leading producers and instrumentalists in brazilian music, alexandre kassin has produced roughly 100 records for singers, including marisa monte and bebel gilberto, recorded with sean oÕhagan (stereolab, high llamas) and made a full album based on nintendo game boy sounds. he has played bass for caetano velosoÕs live shows and conceptualized the orchestra imperial band. his new album, relax, is rooted in dreams and surrealism, yet grounded enough to reach listeners where they are. across 11 tracks, kassin flirts with latin rhythms, brazilian pop, and straight-ahead soul, using this varied stylistic array to tell imagined tales of death, drug usage, politics and fate. theres a dichotomy to relax, with kassins arrangements often feeling bright and danceable, yet with incredibly sullen themes. its a record that speaks directly to the yin and yang of everyday life, and the uncertainty that comes with simply existing.

like all dj koze records, knock knock exists outside of trend and influence. in fact, it s a step further beyond: absolutely every single thing here, from grooves to voices to handclaps, is otherworldly and unique. which is not to say it is utterly alien abstraction, mind. there is still disco, there is still soul, there is still techno, there is still hip hop, there is still psychedelia Ð there are even wafts of easy listening, lost crackly thriftstore record memories and... sort of... indie rock Ð but though it may sound familiar, it never does what your brain thinks it s going to do.
